Star Wars: The Old Republic: Launch Day!
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/20/11 2:33:33 PM
For months, while in beta I had no game crashes. During prerelease, I also experienced no crashes since it has been in regular release I have had four with each of them coming with about 20 minutes in a holding pattern to get back in. |

General: 5 Other Movies That Could Be MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/12/11 7:26:19 PM
Although it is Christmas time and Die Hard is the greatest Christmas movie of all time it would make a good shooter but I don’t think a good MMO As some have said and adding some here The Walking Dead type bases would rock River world Movie not yet out but the books for John Carter Warlord of Mars would work Dark crystal would be interesting Movies and books have been based on it but how about Battle Tech |

Calling all SWG Vets!!! Can we help save SWTOR???
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/11/11 11:34:34 PM
Originally posted by kiern Well said, well said indeed. All I would add is there where not many complaints in the SWG forums as they where heavily moderated and then the ban stick came out if you keep posting. We came here to have a voice and to talk about what was wrong. We all need to remember this place that we came to. MMORPG.COM is a place we can still speak our peace and not be cut off at the knees or silenced. |

Most simply put $0E released an incomplete and unfinished game. They made sweeping changes to it not once but twice. The whole thing is most analogues to having your favorite book turned into a movie and finding out that the screen play was written by someone who never read the book and a director who did not read the book and has an assistant who told him the highlights of the screen play. After the movie comes out it does not do as well as you would think so it is reworked and released with some new scenes about a year later. About another year later a new person is hired who did read the book. However this person thinks the old movie is to heady and wants it to become more light hearted but no longer has money to shoot new scenes or just make a reboot of the movie so instead they just re edit the old movie. |

An Open Letter to Bioware EA
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/09/11 8:41:59 PM
I grew up in the rural United States where we got use to knowing that because of where we lived there where things we were not going to have when people said we would even if they promised we knew that they could not. It did not necessarily make it a lie but something we knew to be untrue so we never counted on anything when it was promised. When I lived in Germany I knew that I was not going to get games from the US when they were coming out. You are out in Oceania a place that when I use that name most Americans have little clue where I am talking about and your surprised and annoyed that it is not going to be there in time?
I saw the CE thought it would be cool but doubted they would get it to me in time for prelaunch even though I am no longer in rural area but now in the eastern corridor. It is an area where if I drop a letter into the mail today it will get to where I want also in the eastern corridor the next day more than not. I went with a digital DL because there was nothing to be had in the box worth more to me then my playtime and I would have no one by myself to blame if I was not playing as soon as possible.

SWTOR: MMORPG.com Community Review!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/03/11 9:03:57 AM
I know someone will come out of the woodwork to explain to me that I am wrong or how this is in the wrong place. When I first came here it was because we needed a place to be able to speak to each other as gamers without $oE banning closing or s removing are ability to talk about issues we were having in SWG. We found a community here or became part of it, helped build it take your pick on how you want to see it.
At that time, this was a small backwater site that more then put up with us being here. In time, this site got bigger but they did not forget us and even created a section in SWG for us rather than telling us we could not speak here. This sit kept getting bigger and that voice of decent that had at least in my mind that had helped build some of this community is not well received now all thought there were calls to remove the refugee section from galaxies it was defended by staff as something that needed to stay.
I would like to think that’s still the community we are in here but then again I still like to think MTV plays music videos still. I guess things change maybe when new forums are created for games we also need a category for decent made I don’t know I have not seen firsthand the heavy handedness people rail about but that does not mean it is not happening.

We watch light sabers burn their way through blast doors so although a light saber would be unlikely to reflect a projectile it would be likely to melt/disintegrate one. Nevertheless, this is without considering that force users are able to use it to manipulate objects in there world with a thought or a wave of the hand projectiles would be sweep aside. We do see darts and things used in the movies but generally speaking it is the surprise factor that works in their favor. So yea, I think a shotgun might work the first time or as a surprise weapon if it stayed extremely rare and seldom used. However, I suspect some of the logic behind not having them is that if it was seen and or anticipated the round could be made to discharge before the user wanted and/or the projectile prevented from leaving the barrel causing a catastrophic failure.

I have to agree it is nice that it has stayed civil. It is not hard to be civil but it is easier for people to just rage and say anyone who does not see the world the way they do as wrong so far we have not had that.
The reason for CC skills not to share the same long timers is they are instrumental in the PvE game the same for why the cool down on the brakes of CC are so long, to shorten the colldown would change boss and mini boss fights again in the PvE game. It is not uncommon at all in the PvE game to be outnumbered by three or more opponents every time you engage.
So far in my experience the best way to balance this game one would have to essentially just create a different game as the way skills and play would be done would be completely different then the PvE game. There is an adage we used in the army that to me fits here. Train the way you will fight and fight the way you trained. The PvP and PvE would be so different that experiences in one would be all but worthless in the other rather than as a way of building skills and knowledge of how the skills work to the other game. Maybe I am missing something I have been known to some times but that’s how I see it ATM.

At least you do acknowledge you only got to level 10 and this is your perspective from its limited exp but let us be completely honest if you’re looking for a PVP game and you buy this you are setting yourself up to be unhappy. If enough people do and complain that it is not a good PvP game we may get them retuning everything to improve that but I bet they break the PvE game in making changes to try and make some people happy. So I hope as some have suggested if they do try to make fixes they only apply to PvP and not the whole game. The real issue is that it is hard to have a good game that can really do both games need to focus on one or the other. |

Beta impressions from a hater
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/19/11 1:36:42 AM
I liked your thoughts on this. Some of it is spot on and well presented. I have enjoyed the game so far and it is not trying to be anything more than it is. Its not a sand box and it is theme parks and I suspect it will keep my attention for more time then rift did as I stopped playing that before the beta was even over. It is a shame that most people will come here and post something without even reading what you had to say :( |

My fondest memory was when Sony gave us back our money for Mustafar because they had been deceitful and unethical in there presale of it.
Really they should have just canceled SWG and released the NGE as SWG2 much of the hate may have been lost and the game may have done better.

Hay leave Chad alone we all know those are lies and that it is Angola that did all that... Well on the up side they will sell you more bank space, bag space, and shared space to put them hats in :) |

In most of my exp PVP so brings out the best in and of people... I know it does in me.... did not care for NGE changes in SWG but untill they closed my server i would go back to gank people and be cheap in the battle zones when ever they gave me free time. I see no pvp as a selling point. |

ROFLMAO
You are looking from loyalty from the people that brought us the NGE, that has to be the most ironic thing I have seen here about SWG. I would like to be one of the first to tell the current players to get over it with a smile on my face.
Ok now to the real meat of it all. I would sign your petition because I know how bad it is as a SWG vet and a so-called forum terrorist to have the game you loved to play yanked out from under you. At lest you have a warning on it and perhaps now some of you all will start walking a little in the shoes of those that have been denigrated for not wanting or appreciating and fighting against the NGE and being told to get over it and let it go and understand the vets just a little. Our petition and threat of a lawsuit at least got us a refund

The avatar that spawned all of my issues is still in use almost 6 months after I brought it to your attention Mr Bitton. I do thank you for looking into seeing about a toggle.
