I only disagree with #5. It looks waaay too cartoony for me. But I love the storytelling so much I will just have to live with the character models. The environments are very nice tho, very Star Warsy.

The google aspect sounds immersion-breaking and annoying.  Not that I don't alt tab when playing games for one reason or another but to make it required rubs me the wrong way.

They said they are planning to include an in-game browser on an interview.

Since TSW has a modern day setting, if they include a browser on, say, your character's netbook or tablet, it would actually ADD to immersion for me.

This game has excited me from the moment it was announced just due to the setting and genre, and it's only becoming more intriguing the more I read about it. As much as I plan on playing TOR and GW2, TSW is the MMO I can see myself playing for the long haul.

Anyone who can't see this is so much a WoW clone is in deep denial.

You can shout, deny, post, or cry, none of it matter... it's a wow clone.

Anyone who can't see past the WoW exterior is in deep denial.

You can shout, deny, post or cry, none of it matters...it's not a WoW clone.

I've seen past the exterior, sorry but you're not convincing someone that has seen for himself. Bioware WANTED it ti be a WoW clone. The only difference is you can choose to shoot the father or let them escape, but in the end it's still WoW.

If you felt no emotional angst at this decision, then apparently TOR is not for you. But for me this was a great opportunity to Role-Play my character, something sorely lacking in all other MMOs where the goals are strictly gear and levels. I felt emotionally invested in EVERY class story I played, to the point where I tried to switch from my Trooper to try another class, but I kept being drawn forward by the story to find out what happened next. If you are the achievement type who doesn't enjoy stopping and taking in the fact that you are flying through Korriban, or you're building a freaking lightsaber!, so be it. But these definitive statements against TOR that you keep making are only your opinion due to your play style. Anyone who enjoys feeling like they are actually playing a character and not a killing machine; a character with motivations beyond the next piece of gear, and enjoys the currently standard mechanics of a themepark MMO, will love TOR.

I knew about GW2 before SWTOR was announced and SWTOR is coming out first.  Now I don't think that will have any bearing on how good either gam is, and since GW2 is b2p I will be playing both.  Actually I may not be playing SWTOR when GW2 launches as I don't try to predict how long I'll play a game for, but each one offers something that I want.  SWTOR offers a story that I am enjoying thus far, in beta, more than any game, mmo or otherwise, since the first mass effect.  Will that enjoyment last past 6 mongs?  No clue, so I may not be playing it for the long haul, that is an unknowable.  But I will purchase GW2 because until they offer dlc or an xpac that is all I have to purchase, so I don't really see a reason not to purchase it since I think it will be an entertaining game for a while.

Yeah, and I knew about Diablo 3 in 2005 and it still ain't out yet. Still noone doubt that it well sell good.

Whats your point?

MMOs take a long time to release, particularly if you want to release them in a better shape than AoC, AO and VG. GW2 uses more untried mechanics than TOR, TORs new mechanics have already worked for years and were perfected in Neverwinter nights 10 years ago, ANET on the other hand have to try out their new mechanics from scratch and that takes longer time.

Sure, if they had made it into a Wow/EQ clone or just used the same mechanics as GW1 it would have been out a long time ago but then I wouldn't really be interested in it the same way.

Yes, Diablo III is the game that is killing me with the waiting. 6 years IS too damn long to wait for a game. I wish these developers would stop announcing games so far in advance of launch. Hell, it seems like half of them get cancelled along the way. Give us a break, please. A year or 2 at the most is plenty of time to build the hype machine AND avoid the burnout the poster is refering to.

In the case of TOR, faction means less to me than class. I want to play BH first and foremost, although I really prefer the Republic and am no good at playing evil. But since in TOR, I can be on the "evil" side and still play a good guy, the choice for me is predicated on class.

After my BH I plan on heading to the Republic side, because I always prefer  the "good" guys.

BTW, your reasoning that everyone plays the good guys did not hold up in Warhammer or Aion. In both of those games the "dark" side populations heavily outweighed the "light" side and led to some unfortunate game imbalance. ( Save us from dual faction teeter-totter TSW, you're my only hope).

Please get  rid of the intrusive techno "music" next time. It was very distracting.

The only thing i can figure the NDA is for now is because they haven't finished bug testing. All the actual features should be pretty much set in stone and info already released on them, and no MMO is going to come in and crash TOR's party by sniping them. Every game either already has an expansion (MOP) or isn't due to come out in a long while (all the other up-coming games), and they aren't going to be able to think something up to steal TOR thunder now a little less then a month from launch.

If it weren't for the NDA I'd tell you why the NDA is still up. :)

The only rule of Fight Club is don't talk about fight club.

A great game and graphicly pleasing, but not without its faults. its got a couple of glitches, possibly the most annoying is when talking to an npc I have turn my character away from the npc to hear what they are saying, anyone else with this issue. other issue are just graphic errors, ie. chunks of rivers missing.

The only thing I ran into was a pack of wolves that fell through the world when I killed them, nothing that big though. You may want to reinstall.

This is my only issue. I died once because I thought the dude I was fighting was dead. Considering how he was a twisted mass on the ground, presuming him dead wasn't a stretch. And while sitting, my sword went through the chair. Carpenters must get a lot of work in Skyrim. There are definitely some graphical errors that disappoint me. Please Bethesda, get a new engine. You cannot stretch the one you have any more.

I finally found something I don't like about GW2: skill acquisition. I don't want to have to solve a puzzle, or defeat a boss, to get skills that I feel should come by levelling. It seems like a needlessly complicated way to get skills. Can I please just buy them?

You'll never win the argument to dress females in proper armor on this site. Men just don't get why we women object to our avatars being dressed like harlots.  If I hear " it's a fantasy world" one more time I will break my keyboard. The real immersion breaker for me is high heels. Really? Practical monster hunting shoes? Women can barely walk in high heels, let alone fight monsters.

The real problem isn't how many gamers are men or women, its how many game developers are men. They are the ones creating these ridiculous outfits. Please, at least give us a choice for non-whorish armor, so those guys who do want to play streetwalkers stll can, and those who want a  warrior woman can have that too.

I have to love the irony of someone arguing against general sexist moronity by using general sexist moronity.

As to the article I think all your points are spot on Suzie. As to what I would add to the list from my own pet peeves, I'd say every and I mean EVERY character having the body of a greek god, and games where adventuring means just going out and whacking things with somehing heavy. About the only MMO I've played that offered alternatives was LOTRO with the hobbit quests.

I'd add my two cents about the issues of the silly chain mail bikinis and bulletproof nudity to help give you a man's perspective on the subject, but considering posters like the one I quoted, I feel there is probably very little point in doing so.

I will at least say that yes sadly sex does sell, but what annoys me is that marketing departments in every aspect of the entertainment industry seem to have have come to the conclusuon that it is the ONLY thing that does.

I've heard the arguments again and again. In the aggragate they amount to" It's a fantasy world, get over it." Of course it's a generalization, but if it wasn't true for the majority of men, why hasn't it been changed? TERA is looking to be one of the worst offenders. And being an Asian game doesn't excuse it. So it is still happening. There must be a reason, and I doubt that most women are clamoring for it.

I keep hearing how F2P is the future of gaming, but to me it seems like a step backwards. Before EQ and AC, with their subscription model, those playing MUDS, like Gemstone( which a few of my friends played), were paying hundreds of dollars a month, due mostly to dial-up fees true, but the point holds true. They were paying for minutes played, and it was very pricey.

Those who are too young to remember that nightmare might think pay as you go is great new thing, but believe me, it costs waaaay more in the end.

Of course, there are other F2P models. I am just pointing out that there was a reason MMOs adopted the subscription model in the first place, and some of these F2P ideas are not new.

I look at it like this: When Disneyland first opened, you bought tickets for rides. Each ride cost a varying amount of tickets. Same way State Fairs worked. This is F2P. Somewhere along the line they switched to a one large fee to enter, but all attractions were available once inside. This is P2P. I, personally, have always preferred the second option, whether it be amusement parks, cable access, or MMOs. I want to pay my lump sum and access all content.

While I, personally, don't understand wanting to pay as you go, a little bit at a time, never knowing the full cost until the end, obviously there are those who prefer paying a certain number of tickets per ride.

I heard character creation is amazing.

It is fun.   Although it is a good character creation tool, it's not quite as good as that in Champions Online, although that's not to say that CO overall is necessarily better.  :)  I can't wait til the server issues are resolved, my son wants to try it with me. Woot!

^ This. A million times this! A lot of people really overexaggerate the short-comings of DC's charater creator. Yes it's lacking in a lot of areas, but it has a lot of stuff you can't find in CoX or CO. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the cosmic skin is awesome! It's better than anything CO has to offer.

I couldn't disagree more. I wanted to make a pirate; no bandanas, no striped shirts, no pirate hats. Cowboy? No hats, holsters, or  vests. Indian? No anything. I could make all 3 of these, and so much more, beautifully in CO. My Indian in CO got multiple compliments in fact. DCUO is the least impressive character generator among the 3 superhero games.

I don't think there is any way to be completely spoiler free. You will, inadvertently, learn something you wish you hadn't. All we can do is try to ignore general chat, and not read forums. In your case, good luck with that considering your job. Ha.

Although I'm more concerned with the potential spoilers in TSW. Due to the fact that puzzle-solving is a major part of gameplay, getting those mysteries and puzzles spoiled will suck a lot more than learning a few story points in TOR.

Gonna be hard, if not impossible. We can only try to limit exposure by exercising precautions, and hope not to be spoiled too much.

Counting the days. Literally. Hoping this will hold me over until TOR, since there are no MMOs holding my interest these days.

I have to ask, how exactly does voice acting kill a MMO?

I've heard multiple times how voice acting is supposed to be bad but I've yet to hear about an actual reason why this is the case. Thus far it seems more like complaining that adding colour killed good movies.....

As far as I'm concerned, the moment gaming went off text-based games, gaming has died.

All those new fancy games with 256 colors and 320x200 fancy graphics never caught my interest in the same way as text-based games. Why, THOSE games were real! They were proper games, which did not neet that useless midi-music from fancy Sound-Blaster 16 to keep you submerged in a gameworld for weeks!

I totally blame todays' young people.

 And get off my lawn!

With so many AAA MMOs on the horizon, I see Blizzard doing what George Lucas did with the later ( chronologically earlier), Star Wars movies: trying to apppeal to a younger demographic and get some new blood to prolong the franchise. Pokemon? Really? Meh to that. I think it just reinforces my hypothesis of Blizzard's intentions with this panda expansion.

Preaching to the choir here. I hated Guild Wars. In fact, after considering it, I dislike lobby games in general. And the skill bar in GW was too limiting. I tried to play a ranger, but he couldn't effectively have a pet AND shoot arrows. Not enough space on the ability bar for both sets of skills. And don't get me started on the arttificial restraints to movement." What do you mean I can't step over that pebble but have to walk a mile around it?"

GW2 will be nothing like the first game beyond the lore. And while the skillbar remains, it looks much improved, changing as it does with what is equipped. Even calling it GW2 is misleading really, it is going to be such a different game.

In my opinion, using words like 'enormous', and 'massive' to describe the planet zones is a bit of an overstatement.

[User edited due to NDA]

I think the explorative aspects of the game are somewhat mis-represented and overstated.

That being said, it's not going to detract from the overall enjoyment of the game, and I'll be there drooling at release like everyone else. I just feel that things are getting a little over-hyped, and not being looked at realistically.

I have no desire to recreate SWG in SWTOR, but for an example of 'massive' planets, then SWG would be a good one.

There are also a lot of valid concerns that are not being addressed. For one: long term content. I don't mean end-game. [User edited due to NDA]

I am hoping for a MMO experience that will last me a few years, and I am greatly concerned that TOR is going to run out of tricks and content very, very fast...

It would be nice, and useful to see some objective negative criticism as well, to balance things out a little.

Very few MMOs will last you for years. We don't hold single-player games to this unrealistic goal, why do we judge MMOs by this standard? I, for one, am well aware that TOR, as a story-driven game, will eventually run out of story.I am looking forward to the ride, but I don't expect it to last beyond a few months.

The game I do see myself playing for a long time, although "years" is a stretch, is TSW. With a classless, levelllesss, skill system, it seems the depth is there for a long-term experience.

Each game is it's own experience, and length doesn't automatically equal better.
