So go back into the closet? Because that worked so well. Oh wait, no it didn't. |

APB: Reloaded: A Mixed Bag of Awesome & Frustration
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/03/12 9:38:24 AM
"An MMO should provide the option for solitary play. You should be able to enjoy this alone. You should not, if you choose so, be shackled to other players." What a difference a decade makes. Go back and try to play EQ solo. You will die. A lot. Now, I am all for solo play, don't get me wrong. I firmly believe it is primarily responsible for the original success of WoW ( which was the first MMO you could reasonably solo in). But the assumption that MMOs have always been, and should always be, this way made me laugh. |

Ghost And Uzis: The Secret World Trailer
General Discussion « The Secret World 1/31/12 12:59:04 PM
Originally posted by tom_gore The combat in TSW is actually going to be a little more involved than that: First of all, you have 7 active/7 passive skills that you can change when you grow bored or want to try something new. Like a deck in MTG, you can mix and match to your heart's desire. Secondly, certain skills put mobs into "states" that can then be exploited by other skills by you or a teammate. Such as a skill that puts a mob into a "burning" state would lead to a skill that does X to a target in a burning state. No, TSW will not have twitch combat, thank god. But it looks like a very deep strategic combat. Not just spamming the same 6 skills in rotation. |

Do you like SWTORS crafting?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/28/12 10:31:53 AM
Not at all. I never liked the concept since it was revealed and playing it hasn't improved my opinion. I want crafting to be an alternate form of gameplay. Vanguard and EQ2 are examples of the crafting I want. Not only is TOR crafting not that, it is even further from what I want than any other MMO. At least in most games I am actually involved, however shallowly, in crafting. In TOR I send my companions away for a time, they come back with stuff. This isn't crafting, it's a lottery. People who like this system are those who dislike actually crafting. |

No, no no. The worst offenders are the vaguely dirty names that cleverly escaped the filters. Names like rugmuncher, teasacker etc...So cute...not. How hard is it to just pick a name that fits the genre? Not hard at all, especially with most MMOs having a random name generator. News flash: none of you look cool with your oh so cleverly contrived names. You all look like asshats. Or should I say A$$hats? |

Diablo 3: Changing Systems to Get It Right
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/20/12 11:16:59 AM
This. Remote salvaging was an exciting feature, something unique to D3 as opposed to D2, and removing it is a big mistake. |

I prefer more realistic graphics. With the exception of GW2, which is trying what seems to be a different approach to "stylized" graphics. The aim of looking like a painting is really working for me. But the cartoony look of Wildstar doesn't really appeal to me. Not that looks are everything though. But they do diminish my anticipation for titles like Wildstar and Kingdoms of Amalur. |

Best line in the whole thing. " You're not just bouncing a few bills off your sister's head like you're at a strip club in Arkansas" |

In most MMOs it feels to me like anything that is not netting me XP is a waste of time. I think it's refreshing for a game to consider rewarding pet collection, exploration, or just socializing in hub cities. I don't see them restricting you from doing any activity but actively rewarding some previously unrewarded activities. |

Guild Wars 2: Mesmer - Master of the Mind
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/20/11 11:08:54 AM
Mesmer sounds very interesting but......why make an enemy think they are on fire when, in a video game, you can actually set them on fire? A difference that makes no difference is not a difference. |

General: 5 Other Movies That Could Be MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/12/11 9:41:31 AM
I think many of Philip K. Dick's stories (Bladerunner, Minority Report, Total Recall), could make awesome single player games. MMOs? Not so much. I'm sorry but I have to say that none of these movies would work for me as an MMO. MMOs I would like to see? Shadowrun, Red Dead Redemption, maybe Underworld or a similar horror theme. |

Hype alert...Story is actually good for the genre.
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 12/04/11 10:35:43 AM
Adding that The Secret World also has the major missions all voice acted. The few clips they've shown display apparantly three-dimensional, often humorous NPCs. Just pointing out that story and VO seems to be a current, welcome trend. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: 5 Things We Love About SWTOR
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/21/11 11:14:09 AM
I only disagree with #5. It looks waaay too cartoony for me. But I love the storytelling so much I will just have to live with the character models. The environments are very nice tho, very Star Warsy. |

The Secret World: First Ever Hands-On Preview
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/21/11 10:37:16 AM
Since TSW has a modern day setting, if they include a browser on, say, your character's netbook or tablet, it would actually ADD to immersion for me. This game has excited me from the moment it was announced just due to the setting and genre, and it's only becoming more intriguing the more I read about it. As much as I plan on playing TOR and GW2, TSW is the MMO I can see myself playing for the long haul. |

This is not a WoW clone, don't try to play it like one.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/20/11 3:15:56 AM
Originally posted by Velocinox If you felt no emotional angst at this decision, then apparently TOR is not for you. But for me this was a great opportunity to Role-Play my character, something sorely lacking in all other MMOs where the goals are strictly gear and levels. I felt emotionally invested in EVERY class story I played, to the point where I tried to switch from my Trooper to try another class, but I kept being drawn forward by the story to find out what happened next. If you are the achievement type who doesn't enjoy stopping and taking in the fact that you are flying through Korriban, or you're building a freaking lightsaber!, so be it. But these definitive statements against TOR that you keep making are only your opinion due to your play style. Anyone who enjoys feeling like they are actually playing a character and not a killing machine; a character with motivations beyond the next piece of gear, and enjoys the currently standard mechanics of a themepark MMO, will love TOR. |
