Actual data and maybe an actual trend line would be better, and it would have to be over a longer time than a few days. Furthermore, if it goes to 180, to 210 and goes medium on a given day, does that really mean there is a positive trend for this game? Not really. It seems like most the servers have less than 100 people playing on it, hell you have have 64 players playing BF2 or other respectable shooters. Playing monthly for a server that holds double that on average seems like a waste of time.

As noted, "heavy" is 400 people on just ONE of the four factions of one of the many servers.  No servers have "less than 100 people playing on it."  For my server, at it's absolute worst, there are 1000 people playing at once.  At it's best, it's over 2,000 playing at once.  Plus, it's a persistent world where the actions of the players can have very real effects on the world through the capturing of ports.  That is the definition of a MMORPG and it is nothing like "BF2 or other respectable shooters."

These populations aren't accurate.  I play on Blackbeard, French side, and I haven't seen less than a hundred on except when I played until 4:00 am on a Tuesday night.  I've seen the French side go over 300 - and we're the lowest population group on the server.  On a good weekend night, the Blackbeard server itself has around 2,000 people at once.  No, that's not a ton of people, but the game feels FAR from empty.

This game is a lot like EVE... and it looks like it's population is starting similarly as well.  It took EVE several years to build its population into what it is today - I'm confident POTBS will do the same.  Both games are niche games and were never intended to be "WoW-killers."  They were both developed at a fraction of the cost of other MMOGs and therefore can support the relatively smaller server sizes when compared to the big-dogs.  Another thing both games have in common - they're FUN.  But if you don't like EVE, chances are you won't like POTBS.  Different strokes for different folks.

Lots of people looking for buddy keys, apparently..

So, with that in mind:  Alms for the poor!  Alms for the poor!  Won't somebody, anybody spare a buddy key?  Please, sir, I've got nothing to eat - can you spare a few coins?  (whoops - Assassin's Creed flashback)

Seriously though - If anyone has a buddy pass they're not using, I would greatly appreciate it if you could PM me or email me at spf_1000@hotmail.com

Oh, and if anyone wants to PM me a pass, a certainly would appreciate it.

Good to hear they have them - as they're a great way to help build a community early on.

Now I just need to cross my fingers for one...

The game looks great, but the mixed reviews have scared me off from buying it.  Just wondering if they include any buddy passes with the retail box.

If anyone won the second contest and is not interested in their key, or has a duplicate, I would VERY much appreciate it if you could send it my way.   I've been following the game for two solid years now, but have had zero luck with getting in the beta.  :-(

Thanks!!

Wow... I can practically smell the crazy coming off of that post.

I loved this game, but like many others, became disillusioned by the empty world and lack of grouping.  That said, I think that AA was a good game that should have been better received and had mad potential.

AA was "close, but no cigar."  I believe they had the right theme, look, and feel, but went in the wrong direction for the game itself. They wanted it to be the "fastest, most destructive MMOG ever!" Instead, they should have gone for a slower game with more RPG elements. Instead of just mowing down thousands of mobs in a minute, they should have gone for bigger, key encounters and made grouping more essential.  How cool would it have been to get a mission into a town, only to find it subject to a blockade by a local gang of raiders? That the only way to get in is to enlist the help of some friends to either kill them, or draw their fire in a fierce race-for-your-life across the desert wasteland while your buddy sneaks into town to complete the mission.  It should have been Road Warrior, not Twisted Metal.  It was too solo friendly, so people never grouped, no one talked, and you could just teleport / fly to whatever town you wanted anyway.  That last part seemed insane to me in a game based around driving.

I'd like to see this game bought by someone and converted into a Wasteland/Fallout/Autoduel MMOG. It seems like it could happen without *too* much expense.

I just want to say to everyone that played Auto Assault that im sorry for there loss,   Ive been in your shoes when Earth and Beyond got canceled.

Ive seen canceled games kill friendships and devastate the mighiest Guilds.

Dont give up hope, you will find a new game with new people.

GL to all of you.

and to the Trolls....

how would you like if a game you loved was canceled,   its not about the game being good or bad,

Its about the people that were burned,  they have probably made good friends in game they wont hear from again.

So before you say something stupid and offensive put yourself in there shoes.

This is the nicest thing I've ever read on these forums.

I like it - it's a lot like Diablo.  There's a lot to like about the game:  the theme, graphics, music, animations, and action, for instance.  But the downside is that it's EXTREMELY lonely.  I've played for many, many hours and I've never seen anyone so much as say "hello" to anyone else.  It's practically a solo game where you can occasionally see others running around doing their thing.  So for a MMOG, it's lame... but for a solo game, it's a heck of a lot of fun.  I don't see it holding my interest for months on end, however.

But for right now.... I'm hooked on it.  :p
Nothing screams "Star Wars" like Kung Fu.
Tiger Woods' Tabula Rasa

^^  LMAO!
I hadn't noticed the rebranding, but I was thinking this past week that if I were in charge of the game, I'd call it "Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa."

The reasons are obvious - there's a slew of other games out there for this one to get lost in the shuffle, Garriott is a gaming legend (Autoduel and Ultima are my favorite games of all time), using a name in the title is like a stamp of approval and generally seen as a good thing ("John Romero's Diakatana" notwithstanding), and the association of his name with the game can only help distinguish the game from the rest of the pack.

F'ing interesting, man.

And you last played the game when? Servers are at their busiest in two years and theres plenty of people running around. You also forget that there are more places to visit now than before so the population is spread across many areas. Galaxies has the biggest maps out of ANY MMO game.
you clearely havent played EVE
Empty space != maps
Should be 4 pending, and 3 DQs.  The Tabula Rasa beta is only open to those bound by the NDA - and every beta I've ever seen DQs people from other countries due to choice of law difficulties.  But who knows.

Yeah, this sucks.  I really wanted this one....

"Eve Online is not a computer game. It is ...

... a graphical spreadsheet.
I submitted my entry back in April, and now I can't find it.  Anyway, the first line was translated directly by Garriott at one of his E3 demonstrations.  It was closer to the first interpretation above, not the second.  The last line is translated in ad material for the game.  As for spaceflight versus wormholes, I went with "logos."  I think I'm wrong... but oh well.  I took a stab at it.

Mine was something like this:

Long ago, our civilization grew upon a planet that was a far journey into the stars.
When our civilization was young, we looked to the stars and wondered if we were alone in the universe.
After many years, our civilization discovered the secret of the logos.
Logos connected all the stars of the universe.
With logos we journeyed into the cosmos.
We longed to discover others who might have traveled the cosmos before us.
But, there were no others before us.
We alone discovered the secret of the logos.
And so we travelled the cosmos in search of other to give the secret of the logos.
But we meet an evil race that now attacks the universe;
Learn our story -- Learn the secret of the logos.
The battle for control of the universe begins now.

The fact is, and please note this statement, SWG is now a completely different game than was initially launched.
Thank God.  SWG was a mess at launch.  It's still a mess, but it at least has a bit of structure to it now.
I submitted my entry over a month ago.  I was only unsure about a couple, and for the most part, guessed right.  I think I guessed one wrong though... so that'll suck.

Anyway, in one of the E3 videos of the game on youtube, Garriott does a walkthrough of the game.  In one scene, he comes across a pillar with the Logos language on it and explains to the crowd what it means.  The symbols on the pillar are identical to column A above.... so if you're unsure about anything, go watch that video.  He also gave some translations of a few other symbols.  I figured since that was coming straight from the horse's mouth,  I could trust it.
