stop trying!

Grab a copy of Dragon age: Origins, or Assassins Creed 2, whatever... MMOs have been so stale in recent years that I find it impossible to find anything that is new, exciting and an actual evolution - gameplay wise. Some ol', same ol'

To be honest this thread sickens me.  Not only that but its bias too.  I dont see where mmos have been stale in recent years.  We have had lord of the rings online, age of conan, warhammer online, guild wars expansions, warcraft expansions, releases like the cronicles of spellborn and darkfall that cater to a minority, vanguard:saga of heroes, everquest 2, a few popular free to play ones also.  In the words of Dark Vador " I find your lack of faith disturbing". Maybee your mmo nerves/hormones are shot from wow or you taking something for granit because not onl has the las few years not been stale but theres lots of new mmos comming out that are going to be great too.  I look at it like geting new players to play mmos it tougher then other online games for the fact that it requires more time generaly speaking, but the mmo world has done a good job of keeping a player base, hence why we still have decent titles like star wars knight of the republic, final fantasy 14, and star trek online.

Can i run it ok?

Aion requires pixel shader 2.0, 128 megabytes of gpu memory, 2.8 ghz cpu, gig of ram.  In town you will be bogged down, but other wise you should get 18-20 fps avg, maybee less maybee more

Iv been the one asking about whats blizzards new mmo for awhile now.  Iv read a few articles and chated about it quite  abit.  I was under the impression everyone new that it was going to be a sci fi mmo already??? Thats what Iv been told and have read.  Personally Id like to see another massive themepark game brought out by them with starcraft online being the title.

i watched the video as well, and it really grabs attension. i liked it alot.  Im sure it will be implemented in sections of course, and only after a year or so of aion being live.  I wonder if any of it has been added in aion chinease/korea.  I dont think so, with that in mind you could expect to wait a good while before any of it is actually in game and usable.  Its funny I havent seen hide nor hair of any grind that isnt fiting into aion, at what point did you feel your grind become unbarable to quit the game?  Sometimes finding the right people to play with can affect that but iv heared a few other complaints to the grind as well.  Im level 13 sorceror, and i havent felt the grind yet, theres just to much to do and its all implimeted extreamly well.  I found the auction house yesterday, very cool...

no...it's not a good point.

What are you playing these games for if you think it portrays you as a "murderer"? (wrongfully so IMO)

I myself, think about this sometimes when slaughtering hundreds of inocent criters.  I think the op has brought up a good topic.  My first real mmo was SWG and I enjoyed being a doctor and bufing people hours on end, and there was no fighting involved.  But theres still that sense that your helping some one else slaughter/massmurder criters.  There has to be some medium to fullfill that dosnt require the mass genocide of some mob in a game, but yet still keep the exitement level up.

Seriously. Think about it. You are venturing into say.....boxing. Then you see that you don't like the brutality. FINE!! DON'T WATCH!!!

aww...dont roll your eyes at me...lol

but how does boxing have to do with mmorpgs....i understand your point..but jeez...were talking mmorgs here..not some ones personal self anguish of weather not said person can take watching boxing or not.  Besides watching something and interacting online are two different things.  At least in the end if some one decides that boxing isnt the thing for that person because its to brutal, then that person can feel ok because that person didnt participate in what said persons didnt like about it, but when a person is interacting with something you dont have that pleasure of knowing that you didnt partisipate in the pilaging/distruction/mass murder of innocent creatures.

Boxing is SO similar to MMOs it's not funny.

If you cannot see that, then this conversation is moot.

Watching, participating.....wtf is the difference to you? Brutality is brutality.

erm...welp i thought id just respond to let you know im still in this thread

lol....at least I know you have a sense of humor.

Did you hear the one about the chicken and the three toed goat?

dont goats have hoofs like deers or horses...any way im going to go play aion

TPB has seen just ludicrous amounts of action recently and I assume it will see even more.  DAO has something like 15,000 leechers atm, BL had 40,000 or so at its prime--these numbers if they are equated to actual lost sales would be seen as HUGE revenue loss.  How is the TPB court case coming anyway?

edit: any ideas why my avatar isn't showing up?  I miss the post :P

im not familiar with the specifics but i did read that they were having  allegations made and brought up by the court. about minova though, i hadent read anything about them being in a court battle.  i thought they were safe in netherland from copyright laws.  i didnt even get a email being a member on mininova nor a message any where  about anything relating to mininova being in legal difficulties or that the site was about to be taken down. i never woulda thought they could do that to mininova.

dark and light 2?  Seriously though, talking subscription numbers is kinda bias at best, and the only respectable numbers iv ever seen comparing two mmos was mmochart.com.  When yout think about the actual servers and how many people they actually hold, throwing around numbers like millions is ludacris and absurd.  Setting aside that i think aion will be the next big mmo for some time, since its already released, theres really no other choises besides swkotor.  Personnaly I think guildwars 2 will bring in the most played characters.

Quoted from pcworld.com Nov 27, 2009 9:04 am

"Mininova, one of the largest peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing sites next to The Pirate Bay, has now removed most of its links to copyrighted content. The site complied with a Dutch court ruling from August. Mininova has said it is considering appealing that ruling.

Netherlands-based Mininova has risen in recent months as one of the most popular torrent sites on the Internet, alongside The Pirate Bay, which is still maintaining a strong presence despite fines and threats to close down the site. But Mininova had to comply with a court ruling from three months ago, which ordered the site to remove all the links to illegal content.

Removing all illegal torrents from Mininova would mainly leave the site without content. Mininova used to link to several popular categories of copyrighted files, such as TV rips of U.S. prime-time shows (Heroes, Stargate Universe, Fringe, etc.) and the latest music releases from popular artists (Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, and others).

Mininova also used to be visited by more than five million users daily, but only legal content will be available from now on through the site's Content Distribution service. This will probably turn away most of the visitors to more obscure torrent sites, in search for popular content.

The Eradication of Torrent Sites?

Due to declining sales, the music and movie giants have been targeting large illegal file-sharing hotspots on the Internet. Mininova's demise is only the latest move in what it looks like an attempt to eradicate torrent sites. The most popular case so far has been The Pirate Bay, which stirred a round of controversy around the world back in April.

Since then, we have seen yet another torrent site going under the radar, Demonoid, due to alleged hardware problems. Now, Mininova is just the latest illegal torrents site to fall under the axe of authorities.

However, it is likely that the illegal content that made sites such as Mininova popular will find another home very soon. There are already other up and coming sites serving such content (BTjunkie, isoHunt), next to The Pirate Bay, which despite court orders, still keeps its online presence going."

Im in shock, I really cant belive it.  I never heared of mininova being involved with court proceeding.  Hmm this sux..

I to am a integrated voice chat enthusiast.  The last time I played wow, was questing in the burning crusade.  I had read that it was being integrated into the game, as i had fought for long time , since wows launch to get it integrated...I have Wotlk but havent used it yet.  You say the voice system dosnt work for people, how could blizzard not implement a great voice system...its blizard after all...whats wrong with it?

So if ... lets say for the sake of argument ... you bought some powerlevel services, deactivated the account when you didn't feel like playing and the powerlevelers reactivated and took advantage of it, it's NCsoft responsibility? Or if your computer is open like a cheddar cheese? Or if you fall for some scam sniffing email?

Do people realise that this game has two account passwords that ought to be different? One is the ingame password and the other is the account password. You only need the account password to activate and deactivate that account, nothing else. It should be kept safe and different for a reason. And if by any change the ingame password gets compromised, you can reset it with your account password.

This is a good point that stuck out to me.  Even if this person has done illigal activities with the account in question, either way said persons is geting a raw deal.  The account wasnt just abused by being breached, but the persons finaces has also been breached.  Now with those two things, you can also add in there emotional distress from the situation and time lost attempting to recover all assests that were unlawfully taken.  My point is as enlightning as it is to discuss politics on geting accounts unbanned because of unjustified practices by the account holder, I think the op is geting more criticism then is justified.

I know threes been alot of posts about aion being associated with grind.   So far from what Iv experienced this is far from actuality.  Yes there are quests that are go to X and kill mobs, but the story is developed enough to where you wont even notice it and before you know it you will be emersed into the game deep into the story before you may encounter anything similar to straight grinding.  Theres alot of cutscenes that  ncsoft does well, that enhances alot of the quests...Iv been telling everyone that asks i think its the best mmo thats been released since Wow, and i new it the second i loged in to a trial chinese account months ago before i actualy bought the north american version of it.  There is no learning curve, its a get in do your thing, and not have to wait for anything or not have anything to do, there is a billgillion things to do, and when you get done with your ascension quest and into the main part of aion is when everything comes togather.  Aion is a win win kinda game, if its not your cup of tea you wont be dealt a blow, and if you think its the greatest thing since wow, then thats what it will be and you wont lose that feeling.

Nope. I'd suggest something a little less taxing.....Meridian 59 perhaps....

i played meridian59 when it first was released.  in all seriousness 4850 is more powerfull then the top of the line nivedia 260 gtx cards.  of course it will...

Theres probubly more inept star wars galaxies players then me in ansering but ill take a stab at it.  I know for a fact that pistaleer would not probubly be what you want with your first character, i was a master pistaleer and to be sucessfull in any way you would have to spend more time and skill points with the class to make it usefull then what you could use it with master creature handler.  Your first build seems solid enough, although i have to admit i never did spend one point in creature handler.  I know when on the terminals with a bounty hunter im not so sure that creature handler would be that usefull, but any build can be ,ade a good one i guess hah.  As for your second build, i was close to master medic after my pistaleer days had ended.  The grind for master weaponsmith would be long and tedious, i mean not only would you have to get resources and all that, it takes awhile to train up all that, the good thing about that though is crafting is fun either way, and you can always sell your stuff u dont need on the bazaar and most of the time it will.  Ummm, yeap... so the houses i think you could make on lok, tatione, dantione, and there was another, hmmm o yes um naboo, thouse 4 i know for sure, the rest you couldnt make any for.  Your main would be able to set up camps on every planet, theres no restriction on that.  Dathmir, you coulnt make houses on i know that, and another planet im forgeting ...hmm what is it....i cant remember...

You sure know alot about star wars galaxies for not have made these two characters.. did you make characters in other classes...

pfffffffffttttt.....its late here, any video seems amazing with bright colors and kewl effects.. please forgive my bad choise in video posting...

Iv played a few characters both as asmodians, and elyons in china open beta and all has been great so far.  I havent goton to do any pvp of any kind though as i havent realy made it out of the starting locations on eaither side.  Iv seen a few pvp vidoes but i couldnt realy put two and two togather, i mean even though iv played the game i couldnt realy image what pvp would be like if i was in game, but this video has given me a little more input into what aion pvp is like from a players perspective.  There flying combat, and the use of tatics is evedent...any way heres the video.. tell me what you think...

pvp video

ITs because of mmorpg inflation if you will.  The advertising just isnt there when it needs to be.  ITs like there wasnt much advertising for cars when they first came out, because everyone was using horses to get around.  But now, thats all you see, it car advertisments because everyone uses one.  When mmorpgs first came out there didnt need to be any advertising for them because it was a new thing, and it was fun any way.  Now that the market is inflated , there needs to be advertising to keep peoples interest while playing it, witch it defently hasnt done, for me either.   I dont watch tv , so i cant say that there is some or none there, but like magaznines or something would be benifitial.  I used to purchase a magazine called massive witch was a mmorpg magazine, then out of the frikin blue, swosh, its pulled like it never existed.  If you can get your hands on some advertising it makes all the differenece in something being enjoyable or not, at least for mmorpgs is concerned.

my main and only character i ever put time into is currently a shadow preist on bleeding hollow... eyc... send him a mail if you like.  Shadow priests , at least mine, was always better in pve envirment then pvp.   Alot of the skills in the shadow tree are enginered that way.  I always had a blast with my shadow priest in mc...any other raids where i could put shadow weaving on with it sticking up to 5 times its intial strength, and that makes any dmg done to the enemy with shadow 5x the dmg, so for warlocks and priests it was fun.. yup...
