GTA: The MMORPG

It has to be done...

Imagine...

You start out as your average Joe, outta prison, come in on the bus, homeless, immigrant... whatever, loadsa options right there for character design, class etc (like wood elfs compared to humans in fantasy games, different stats and alliances etc)

You go to the job centre, see your parole offiicer, goto the bars try looking for work whatever... make it an open class sytem like SWG... you progress up whatever work route you choose, bit of this bit of that ... whatever, you could just go see hookers at night and work in a pizza parlour all day and get high on weed... or work your way up the drug trade, jack cars... whatever, you get me...

but it must be open class system like SWG was... no WoW clone where your led by the hand...

start with a small city... say quarter the size of liberty
then when its been running say... 6-9months bring in n expansion where you can take the bus / flight / boat to another city that is the expansion...

Man, I should sell this to R* and get rich quick,,,,

With less than 10k players left and left with a skeleton crew. I would find it hard to belive that LEC/LA isnt working with a new Star Wars MMO. Either alone or with a third party developer.

If they have learned their lessons. IT WILL NOT BE LAUNCHED IN A STATE OF BETA. They will take their time and make sure that the product will be polished and bug-free.

And will it be another WoW clone? Anything other than a open-ended MMO will fail. Why? becouse you cant make a linear story with only repeative content as endgame content for a universe as wast as Star Wars.

the storyline has only to do with content and not much with the pvp, in pre-cu what was there to do content wise aside from pvp and sit macro'ing at the end of some cave? Pre-cu had people leaving the game regularly because it was a shallow empty bug ridden game then, and when the cu came the rest of the people that were left didnt like the change because it attempted to fix the classes, bal;ance the game, it left the pvp open ended as it always has been, and made content and stories to play through, seriously man, you can recreate whole battle scenes as a player ingame with that new thing they have, how open can content be, you can quest, make yer own stories, do anything. I like swg the way it is now, it has stuff in it, things to do, things to pursue ingame, i sure dont miss solo group quests for hours, lol, anyone remember that bug pre-cu where you could call yer droid 10 times and make yer own group and take all the cash? That is what i think people miss is the bugs and exploits, after playing the nge for awhile i feel the origonal swg was just so thin, empty and shallow full of bugs and exploits, another bug i liked was stacking crystals in my lightsabre pre-cu, you could add crystals go over a zone line tkae the crystals out, the power would stay in em and you could repeat this and make a crazy overpowered lightsabre, one bug that made me angry was when ya were fighting someone and they went in the water and you couldnt fight em anymore, idk man, pre-cu was horrible and a headache, i prefer the nge swg after i had taken the time to play it, its not bad, even better than the origonal, but this is all my opinion, some people love to play in broken empty games though where they can be unbalanced and use exploits.

I for one had a blast. It seems to me that SOE could have fixed all those bugs. The bottom line is they didn't. Instead they went and just destoyed the game. I don't care what you say, SWG was making a comeback in 2005. I guess we will never know.....sad!

You all sound like you have given up hope...

There is the Emulation and it is in its final stages of completion over the last 2.5 years they have made amazing headway with hope faith and love and it isnt even iconic or star warsy

Is ahead of there time a nicer way of saying it sucks really bad now? Pre-cu was a mess in many ways, balance suckes, there was nothing to really do pre-cu, ''sandbox''= a nicer way to say no content, and since there was no content pre-cu lets try pvp, pvp was very unbalanced, so many damn bugs and exploits in pre-cu, I was liking the way swg was heading when rage of the wookies expansion came out, I was like yayyy quests, stories, lore awesome, then obi wan came out i liked this as well, and at first i was bitter with the cu but after giving it a real try i realized something, it fixed the game, the classes are balanced, did away with that stupid tier system that everyone cookie cut for each profession, or incorporated each tier with the greatest exploit of each profession, come on you people, how can pre cu be the good old days of swg it was crap, I dont think all the complaining vets could here could truly compare cu and pre cu in honesty because apparently they never gave cu a real college try, play the new swg for 2 months and then compare it to the bug ridden grind crapfest contentless that was pre cu.

So its all balanced now , so i assume you a trader and pawn Jedis and Bounty hunters now, right ?

I know you need to adhere to your NGE to judge to yourself  why you still  pay to play such an crapware and waste so much time on it.

Because you need a hand like an 3 years old kid  it doenst mean that people actualy took advantage of the sandbox nature of  PRE CU and filled the space with enjoyning themselfs in 1000 more amazing activities then hanging out in Restuss PvP ing and/or load in instances for repeatadly doing the same mindless  thing  over and over for  crap collection and calling this  "Content" .

Content as quests had be easily put  into PRE CU too without having to ruin the game btw. And why you mentioning bugs , the most annoying  bugs are still in current game and with CU/NGE more massive bugs introduced in addition to them.

We vets may look back and put more shine in the memories of what we had  in PRE CU  but thats becuaseof the very crap and sad state of the current  crapware  some call  a "game".

Alot of people bang on about the shine we put on our memories as vets, or the rose tinted glasses... but listen, and listen well, speaking as a vet from SWG and a 33 year old game player from pre Spectrum16k days all the way through everysystem to now... I played SWG*** today and just logging in and chatting to people without having to go do anything in particular was a great feeling... That is what I loved about SWG, I have played EVE, LOTRO, WoW, Vanguard and none of them AT ALL come close to that experience in SWG... that is the game I wanted to play and want to play... and the SWG*** is the only place I can play it, so that is what I play...

It is great and if they had stuck at it... WoW raiders would have been filling up Bria nad the other servers by now... I'm sure of it...

Oh my days , were we even playing the same game?

Horses for courses right... well, SWG will always be in my heart as a near perfect gaming experience...

I know I am not the only one and I am enjoying replaying that experience...

Like?

Seriously...

lmao are you kidding?

Take off those rose tinted specs and think back, it's not hard.

No I'm not kidding, it was your statement...

I don't think SWG had the WORST of anything...

It had bugs, it had problems, but that was part of it being SWG... I loved the sandbox, the UNbalanced professions... people who wanted to power level could... people who wanted to kill worrts and loot hide could, people who wanted to make weapons could, people who wanted to just Rez people at the graveyard could, people who wanted to Buff at Theed, could...

It was about a Massive Multiplayer Role Playing Game in which you were immersed and living out a life as ana vatar in a generated game world, where you could live a life you chose... your actions, crafting, and decisions had effects and outcomes on the game world... the whole point was to LIVE in a star wars universe as you saw fit...

MMO's these days seem to be about leveling, grinding, questing, looting, raiding and MAXXING out your character...

When can we go back to logging into a world and just sitting at a ranger camp shooting the breeze and living there and doing what we wanted... soon I hope... SWGe**.com

IMO, it's not working. All he's doing is pissing off his long time fan base. Hmm... sounds kinda like SOE did with the NGE. Maybe they should stick with their original fan base, they are much more loyal anyway.

The original fanbase are now all having (or had) kids, and we need to be able to say good things...

So far only the IV, V, and VI movies are worth passing on to our kids, oh and maybe the Emu

I need to post...

I read through the Prima guide today... there is an introduction to what MMO's are...

It talks about the Economy and the language interaction and respecting other players.

ALL items are made ingame or something similar. No levels (you have hybrid and Elite classes)

Why is it that SWG is (it seems) one of the only MMO's to have this player based economy, community sandbox of wonders... and all the other MMO's (well most of them) are all old ideas and WoW clones.

I mean, surely by now, someone somewhere has thought... hmmm I know, there seems to be at least a few thousand players wanting a sandbox sci fi, multi-class based, player driven economy type MMO

lets make one... and not make it too star warsy...

SWG was the best game I have ever played in my 33 years of Life... I will quite happily pay treble the normal subscription costs per month to the first person who makes a game like SWG was Pre CU... call it what you want... I'm quite happy logging in at the moment to the TC and chatting to people from way back about the old days... I'd even pay for that if necessary... and that is what makes a game... if so many people can keep the faith and hold on and speak out... then I think: Yes they were ahead of their time, and if they had been supported and not tried to copy WoW... then SWG would be the biggest MMO to date... WoW would be trying to copy its class system and grab some of that community player driven economy...

In an alternative Universe SWG has 10 million subscribers and Smed is working on WoW - Super Gaming Enhancements...

Thank you Ralph, thank you for such joy... an old school gamer from 1975

Well, it has come to this, I'm in therapy...

my shrink says to bill $OE in her professional opinion...

Just last night I had a dream of Smeds walking into my room dressed as Vader whilst I was playing SWG on my comp, tanking a Krayt as a Teras Kasi with AT-ST on its way up the graveyard, rangers sniffing out the trail to get us there. A nice large camp people sitting on chairs, dancers dancing for our BF (Twi'lek of course) looking Hawt in their Hawt pants. Then Smeds says "I have you now!" and the Letters N-G-E start to flash in front of my eyes. I start to cry as the chairs disappear and all the camp dissapears, the Twi'leks stop dancing and all their clothes change colour. A big crosshair appears on the desert floor and millions of glowstick n00bs run around whacking nunas calling themselves 1337 R0x0r pwnd vets.  ARRRRGGGGHHHH.... smeds says not to worry as he turns into an angel, it is just a bug and they are working on it... then I wake up and yodas sitting on my bed saying ... "Hmmm therapy you need, yes, troubled by the dark side you are."

god help me, what did I do to deserve this... Please CU god, I know your there, no more false idols I promise...

better go, Smeds just said they think sandboxes are a bad idea they get the computer dirty... eek!

well at least it's pro-active...

we all post here about it, so why not all send a copy to George...?

If nothing else the site will get swamped with posts, and we are making our point.

Okay, so, George, your the man, you came up with the idea of SW, creatd the universe, gave us all a world of wonder...

That must be something quite dear to you, something that you consider special and has a place in your heart...?

Would you like to hear about a company that is systematicly ruining this game world, it's fans of your movies and people that have grown up loving this god like vision of yours...?

You would...?

ok then... here are over 250 thousand people that would like to tell you what has happened and how much they are pleading for someone to do something about it...?

http://www.letterstogeorge.com/

Quote" Thanks for coming to to letterstogeorge.com! First off, I know you're asking, "Will George really read my letter if I send it through the website? Can I really contact George Lucas?" The answer to both of these questions is YES! " Unquote

Great George, thanks for your time, oh and if ya see Yoda tell him he owes me a Tenner!

Please head all letters "Star wars galaxies PRE CU Server" just to make sure he sees how many about the same topic...

Well, $OE has to, and I mean HAS to go down in history of gaming lore as the most retarded and blind company that ever tried to make money... eg

200 Thousand people and growing, wanting their game back... even the new players and the current NGE (cringe) players are all going, what is this PRE CU thingy...?

thats hmmm 200k x £10 a month hmmm = £2million a month immediate revenue... IMMEDIATE!!!

now i'm no expert, but that makes business sense to me...

Open a Pre CU server and release subscriptions... hell double the cost for the monthly fee for the first six months... watch how many come back... i'm serious... the only way I'll EVER buy a $OE product again is if they reopen the PRE CU Server (however difficult that may be)

Otherwise the following will happen.... Someone else WILL copy the game mechanics down to the letter (bar some bugs perhaps) and release a "Name" MMORPG that wll have an almost immediate player base. I can't believe someone isnt already doing this...

PRESS: $OE has now probably got the worst press of any software / business company since Mc Donalds...?

They have the PERFECT opportunity to:

1 appeal to all players as a company that LISTENS to their fan base

2 Make a shed load of money

3 Goto Heaven instead of eternal HELL... lol

not bad IMHO

RUMOURS:

Bioware are in the perfect position to sweep on in and make the game of the century... I have played games since pre spectrum systems (pre atari, going back to the original console pong yes i been playing that long) through to today top end laptop and NO game has held my attention as SWG did... maybe Dungeon Master by FTL comes close, but thats it...

Bioware ARE making a MMO (most likely Sci Fi) and LA have supposedly taken the license back or are in the process, they have already shopped the SW license around a few companies.

Bioware on their forums have NOT denied a SWG2 or SW MMO, admitedly they are enjoying the 37 forum pages of free press about their new MMO, but, I think Bioware are a safe bet to bring something for the vets in withdrawl...

Personal...

I have spent a fair bit of cash on a few games recently , well since just PRE NGE. and have to this day FOUND NOTHING like the game we all loved. (Although I must say my wife is very pleased the game has been ruined... actually come to think of it... maybe that is what happened $OE are making money it's from all the disgruntled girl/boy friends who want their partners to stop playing the game and are paying Smedly etc to keep the game in ruin... ahhha cracked it....!!

Finally, I think my game playing days are over until the gameworld has a game as entertaining and wonderful (bugs or not) with such a top top, comunity...

Guess what they say is true... you don't know what you've got till its gone...

Ak'kya - Master TK/Master Swords/MAster Fencer... retired 2005.

Exactly, was looking at Vangaurd as a withdrawl therapy program from SWG, then it looked more and more promising, and now$OE are in on the game... I have ZERO interest in the game, moved on to Chronicles of Spellborn
