alright.. so i read the little write up they put on this game.. and the suggested end game plans they have, now reading it makes the game sound interesting.. but im kinda torn on it.. as they say they took game elements from DFo and FE which kind of worries me as both games did not meet the expectations of the players/gamer community with their intended game plans (not to say its bad but kinda worry some, with a "what if" scenario of them taking the elements that hurt both games at launch @_@) while the game is interesting i kinda feel like im reading fallout... which isnt exactly bad.. but same time, if i want to play fallout ill play fallout kinda deal.. also kinda wondering what kind of game improvements they generated from UO and EVE @_@ as both games are polar opposites of each other.. all in all this game sounds kinda... iffy, has anyone seen any actual game play videos on it yet?? or knows of any? ~oh and the offical site link is broken it opens up to google when i click it~
(below is the mmorpg write up for the game)
Grimlands is a hybrid sandbox/questing post-apocalyptic MMORPG currently being developed by Drago Entertainment, and to be published by Gamigo. It will be reminiscent of games such as Darkfall and Fallen Earth, and use and improve on gameplay aspects of other popular MMORPGs, from Ultima Online to EVE Online.
Set in the aftermath of nuclear detonations, players will travel through wilderness and shanty town locations, hunting and being hunted by radioactive beasts, bandits, and outlaws. PvE and PvP combat will both be quality factors of gameplay, with enemy AI set a few notches higher than the usual MMORPG. Duel and arena fighting will also be available. Grimlands is also being set up to have customizable vehicles. Stay tuned for more details as they are released!

thats all well in good for the map of the game.. but what is the actual s'KM of it?? the map could be 1000 s'km but inactuallity going from east coast to west coast by foot from point A-B could be 2 seconds ...
so what is the actual game size... and how much is actually accessable to players. alot of games put out big huge maps then limit the areas you can explore to a smaller size.. |
|
|
i sure hope so.. in HnH im prettty much crippled trade wise as i can not find mass quanities of mussels (pearls) to barter for my needed items. so im kinda of worried salem will suffer that same invisible wall. mind you from what i understand the current world 6 of hnh has been running for quite some time so alot of people are basicly "end game" where all the current trade prices are coming from.. be interesting to see how the plan to build salam to allow for "reply" ability and how they will setup trading.. |

i would take a mmo based on rurouni kenshin over naruto any day of the week. as for naruto the english dub i have seen of it annoyed me to no end with the english VA's i couldnt get in to the show like i did dragon ball or ronin warriors years ago. but to me naruto is a kiddy show. simply because its on day time TV.. doesnt matter if EP 300 it becomes more moody or violent.. you do not see ninja scrolls on day time TV (though it had nothing but blood and gore with violent rape scenes so im sure thats part of it) |

god @$@# no.. just no.... im sick of that anime.. every time i talk to someone for the first time who is all " ZOMG!!!!111 i just love anime" the first show they say they ever watched is naruto on tv.... instantly i dont want to talk to them most have never heard of GITS or any of its pre/sequels... or ninja scrolls or any of the millions of better animes out there... they only watch naruto.. or you go in to a nautical MMO and the most noticeable names are luffy or monkey D or some other overly reused names that everyone plus their dog uses..
so no.. naruto should never be made in to an mmo.. nor should bleach... as they arent good animes.. they are just spammed >>" give me a GITS anime over those... or GITS: stand alone complex fk those would be way better animes -> mmos then any TV hyped kiddy shows |

Calling all people who think Sandbox mechanics need to be put back into MMOS!

Originally posted by Zlayer77 i gathered that.. but just saying everyone play X game because of Y mechanic.. really is a wrong way to go about it. just because CCP gets 10million players wont make people stop creating WoW clones :/ look at how popular eve is right now.. did it stop people making star trak online?? nope... devs will make a game they wish not because players want it but because they see a way to generate income :/ i personally hate WoW.. its too easy for me game mechanic wise. hense why i dont touch the totall 100% wow clones as they are worse. alot of people want that so companies keep making them.. i just choose to not give those companies my account creation or money. like alot of people refuse to do. i just dont see how boosting X game's player numbers will stop the creation of wow clone 99999999.2.. i just refuse to play mmos that dont break the mold. as for a game that is fun.. thats debateable as each player has differant tastes. some find MO fun.. others dont :/ so just because X number of people find Z mechanic fun in a game the other W number wont :/ so we wind back at square 1.. ideally in a perfect world games would always be fun for the player.. some are fun with annoying bugs others are not fun period.. its finding the balance between really fun and not fun that makes the game enjoyable i find :/ |

so let me get this right... you are fed up with how games are being made so your idea is to get everyone to pay money to a game they very well may not enjoy just because it has mechanics you like?? thats like telling everyone to be a veggan then making them spend a month eating nothing but raw meat.... because meat has mechanics veggies dont have and should have...
frankly i have looked at EVE and its not for me. its too much of a gank-fest for my tastes if you actually manage to get people to pay money to eve because of your idea... great... though it wont change any thing other then a bunch of people will throw money to CCP for no reason just because of 1 or 2 mechanics people want in say AOC..... which really wont put said mechanic in any game... :/ |
|
Originally posted by CyclopsSlay the thing is.. AOC cost up around that price and its now semi F2P.. star trak as well cost alot to make and is not f2p.. which is why i personally dont shuffle f2p as impossible for AA... but alot of people are claiming it is f2p (mind you some people mix up trials with f2p... and think full trials upto level 20 is f2p when its not)
seriously though, AA could pull off F2P easy enough hell even a 1 time B2P like gw1 could work :/ it all depends on how much popularity it has for boxed sales (boxed sales in line of cd key ect) if b2p would work..
though who knows.. i personally just want a more offical statement on the what model they are looking at.. alot of really decent games that cost alot to make have gone f2p... or free to some extent, so its hard to say anymore ... |

the next big game to be a failure..?

...lol but i agree with you |

Originally posted by CyclopsSlay see thats excactly my thinking too, AA is shaping up to be a P2P game, which is fine. though that lets me out of playing it as i rarely play p2p games (i get ADD with video games and jump too much) though its not impossible to have a GW style system either, i mean GW1 proved the B2P model can work and can substain a game rather well. AA could go that route with a D2D system in place you basicly just buy the key and download bam.. even if this game sold at 30 bucks i could see it recouping a quite a fair profit on sales even as a B2P model.
f2p brings with it problems and curses ofcourse, but cant be dismissed either. there are a few games that are going this route while item malls are a baine of every one there are people who want them even in P2P games :/ so while it might seem like an mall in AA would be pointless, i could see it working.. with some customizations or respec items.. maybe some specialized items that are either super godly rare or just very time consuming to get/make which could make people buy them instead of farming for it.. ontop of that you get the people who invest RM in to item malls and turn around and resell it on ingame markets for large cash cows of ingame money ( legally ofcourse) so while f2p does seem far fetched... its possible AA could go that route too.. its just i keep seeing people throwing out how its 100% p2p or 100% free to play or 100% slap my dog and call it a cat 2P... im just kinda wondering if anyone has any actual proof of what its intended model will be?? |

the next big game to be a failure..?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/02/12 10:53:21 PM
the next big game to fail is.....
this thread, after it takes an arrow to the knee......
im rather confused why people are soo sexually frustrated towards games they have to will any and all games to fail O-o... soo the game is not for you, that doesnt mean its a failure.. unless it cost 100million to make and recoups -100million and just out right shuts down... in that case ya its a failure in that it recovered 0 money spent and ended up shut down.. but i have seen these threads for every game due out/ has come out over the last 3yrs and im still confused why people want games to shut down.. they wanted MO to shut down, dark fall to shut down... hell im sure if people had the means to they would want everquest to shut down... cant we just.. be thankful for a game that entertains ??? if its not for you just move on and find one that does meet your desires, i see no reason to want it to shut down just because you didnt enjoy it O_O" some people love Pong... some dont.. that doesnt mean the people who dont love pong should want it shut down... :/ |

seeing as i started playing haven and hearth after checking out salem, its kinda dawned on me no one as of yet has made any comment about the ingame economy.. im going with the assumption that its going to use the HnH player made one.. which kinda worries me, as the HnH econ really cripples new players to the point that they just wont play, once they hit the brick wall in crafting items and need X item for something with 0 means to get it. so has there been much statement towards how salem will combat the economy issues they hit in HnH should salem use a similar system for ingame econ?? while i do understand both games do not limit you in creating all items in the game, i also know without some form of trade or mass multi-accounts dedicated to 1 aspect of the game for mats/crafting you pretty much hit a wall.. im sure many might not see a problem with a player run econ... but i frankly do not wish to have to dedicate 12 months or 2 yrs of heavy game play (8hrs per day /7 /365) just to get skills high enough level that i can trade with players.. much like you run in to in HnH once the game is online for 3 months or more and you wind up with a heavy dedicated group of players.. any new player is pretty much out of luck for trading.. as older players will not buy an item of lower quality items (which makes sense but it cripples the new player who did not have access to the early trading of low quality.) on top of that, most trades which are made by older players could wind up being soo far out of a newer player's reach that its impossible for a newer player to attain the items they badly need to advance.. ~~~generalized example~~~ (day 1 of launch, lowest bacon sells for 2 gold) (day 120 of launch, lowst bacon sells for 900000gold) (day 1 of launch lowest raw bacon trades for 1g) (day 120 of launch, lowest raw bacon trades for 0g) at day 1 a new player only has access to raw bacon for trades.. = new player can not generate income via trade to advance... player ends up quiting do to no way to compete with players who started at launch. ^ that is the sort of stuff you run in to playing haven and hearth, people trade only high quality items (stuff that requires atleast a 100 skill point to get/make) for pearls which are a super rare item, and neither are attainable to a new player until they have played atleast a year or more (provided they are not randomly killed/raided and have to start all over again)
soo pretty much i am just wondering how salem will handle the economy ingame.. |

ya i get lag alot, rubber banding and such. i still play it every few days, only because... im limited on what i can actually do as my stats are not high enough to do what i want/need to do (aka mine) and gathering res for items in working on takes hours of real time to achive lol
but i dont think it really matters what speed your net connection is, you will lag alot. i think it has something to do with their actual server system.. alot of the stuff rambled off about HnH is that its running on a desktop server from a dev's house.. @_@ which is find rather scary... simply because i cant see this game running like a minecraft server or counterstrike server.
though the thing that urks me is there is no real ingame econ.. i cant actually trade with anyone, because my quality of items is not Q50-200 on top of that i cant buy items from players because my skills are not high enough to find mussels on the game world and get the 1% chance of A pearl out of them to trade for items (when most players expect 10+ pearls for 1 item of trade.. ) so in that regard i kinda of hate HnH's economy.. new players are pretty much @$@# over by the old time players.. as they cant trade their noob items for stuff they need, like wrought iron for brick walls (that everyone tells you to build magically) or milk for cheese or animals.. ect.. IMO this game really needs an NPC/noob town that people can trade their items at to atleast make hermiting or starting out alittle bit easier (not handing it to them on a plate, but taking a Q 20 chicken for example and selling it to an npc/ player in for a Q5-20 bar of iron or steel or whatever) thats the biggest killer for me in this game, i have no real means of gaining the items i need without spending upwards of 2yrs of playing the game to get my skills up to a point where i can MAYBE make an item worth trading :/ |

Cherry Pickings of Development Features from Goblinworks blog
General Discussion « Pathfinder Online 3/01/12 3:54:09 AM
lv 20 after 2yrs from launch @_@ that sounds harsh for a game.. alot of players now days do not wish to wait more then a week for max cap (hense why GW 1 took all of 24hrs to reach max cap) i seriously dont see how they can invision players staying with the game for Xyrs to get say level 10 or even lv 5.. given soo many people are now spoiled with games like GW and WoW where leveling is rather quick, which leads everyone in to event/pvp stuff which they want to do anyway |

im sorry im not even going to view this topic as realistic.. by the simple fact you made the outlandish claim that cod beats BF... im sorry COD is an arcade shooter i would compaire it to counter strike.. BF 1942 which has a larger game map then cod 1 has is better. BF is more of a capture the flag style game play. which is loads differant then cod's typical run and gun. iv played COD1-2 every newer cod is just rehashing the same stuff MW1 is the same as MW2... all they do is change the theater.. i mean how many modern shooters can you have with COD in the name all based on say iraq?? before they are cookie cutter?? BF1942 covers both east and western fronts of 1942-44 sure the newer BF is a cookie cutter of BF2 as to me frankly they are all modern shooters and really all the same.. sell of boxes means jack squat... mcdonalds sells millions of burgers but that doesnt mean its burger is better then one i make at home.. just because i dont sell millions of my burgers doesnt mean mine sucks O-o which you are clearly claiming when you compaire BF to cod.. while im not a fan of the newer BF as i personally just see it as repeating BF2 with better graphics :/ i really fail to see how COD is better then it??? does cod allow tanks/planes/cars/ships?? to be used all the time on the map?? o-o while i disagree with you on the cod/bf stuff.. i do agree they pooped the shoot on CnC... they bent that baby over a chair and did soo many inconsevable innapporprate things to it, its shameful. |

iv noticed a few people throwing out F2P in relation to AA.. but has there been any offical word on is the game p2p or f2p or b2p?? i would assume its p2p at the very least given the amount of work they are putting in to the game... it doesnt sound like something you would find in guildwars or hello kitty online.. but given the lack of "subscription" info on mmorpg as well as the offical website, im kinda stumped how/why people are throwing out this game is going to be free or paid or whatever @_@" or am i just really really blind more so and totally missed it?? |

Syndicate Dev Asks Pirates To Reconsider
General Gaming « General Discussion 2/29/12 12:18:59 AM
wow thats pretty neat. and does make sense, i mean most of the top game crackers are pretty good programers to begin with hense why they are cracking DRM on games, like ubisoft's settlers or skyrim or whatever... so its not like the crackers dont know how to code/program. so who knows maybe the next big game coder is an x-game pirate cracker lol. |

i agree, its all well and good all these "player" videos on the game and such but its all taken during the develop/testing phase so half of that stuff can be changed before launch.. ontop of that we do not know how really accurate any of the videos are. perhaps during the videos they found bugs that arent fixed yet but they are not talked about during/in the videos. or perhaps the videos are created by players who found game mechanic loopholes and abused them to hell.. who knows.. with every game i see coming out in the last 4yrs boast about how great and fresh and new they are and have scores of "player" made videos to back it up... fail horribly im kind of worried AA might be biting more then it can chew. while i do hope they pull it off as it looks great on paper. i cant help being a tad apprehensive about it... just like you would buying a used car from "stan's used autos"... |

im currently trying it out now, seeing as its on steam and every game im interested in playing right now is either in alpha/invite beta or just not launched in my area for trying it. that being said its not a bad game, mind you i have only just hit lv 25-26 on fed the pvp i have run in to wasnt that impressive the few klingons that have attacked me in a borg instance.. either wait for me to hit 2 borg cubes solo or try to 5 on 1 me. but owell other then that (which is more player choice then game mechanics) its decently fun. some missions annoy the piss out of me though and i seem to suck on land combat over space :/ i do like the fact i can farm dil-crystals and convert them in to real item mall money to buy ships and content thats pretty neat, even if the item mall is a tad pricy on the convertion not many games allow you to generate ingame items for item mall buying.
i can see how the game will be boring at max level but thats the same case for all games i find now days. |
