"another mmo that is far more successful" is that what the mmo world has come to? If it's not a WoW killer it's a failure

RPGer ect... singling out one, is like making a cake with out 1 ingredient. you can still make the cake but it wont be AS good as it could be. ofcourse in no way am i saying a company HAS to set its sights to get everyone. but generally thats the norm for companies (example APB its a questing/PVP/FPS set to attract as many players as possible how it plays out who knows) @Tdogskal: the only reason WoW has had the success it has recived was do to it creating a game off one of their other popular titles (warcraft) as well as creating the game to work on lower end systems (lots of consle players neglete pcs so they are not as high end generally) which ofcourse opened the door for players to join it who have never played a MMO before. ontop of that they lowered the skill requirement to play it (not ment to sound harsh or anything just general census) anyone is able to pick up WoW and play it. unlike WAR or AoC or FF or DarkFall where you have to know what your doing and have the skills setup in such a way.. ect.. WoW takes most of that work away from the player they just pick their spec and go at it, so in that case WoW did a decent job on their game. i personally dont like WoW as its not my type of Tea... but others do so, good for them. as for WoW's release time.. thats kind of debate-able sure you can argue that there was limited MMOs of the AAA quality around at the time and what not.. but if Blizzard had released Starcraft as a MMO instead it would most likely be just as popular.. simply because Starcraft like Warcraft are both highly popular games in korea alone.. and still equally popular now days in the rest of the world. SO unlike other games coming out which only have that title.. Blizzard has its name and past games to use for attracting players. people go to games they like and companies they know/trust. |

unfortunetly if you look back say 10yrs ago (pre-wow) you would see very few of the insta-failure threads. what we have now days are what i tend to generally call the WoW days.. everyone tends to agree as a game, WoW after awhile has long since lost its luster and fun. but what WoW did that was sorta benifitual was open the MMO gaming area to people who never played MMOs they are the RTS.. RPG... FPSers and such. so for that WoW did a nice thing overall.. the annoying and sad part is... alot of the gamers in MMOs now are mostly WoW players and as such. they want.... need a game to topple WoW so they can worship it like they did WoW... now anyone with an IQ higher then a rock.. will know, to repeat WoW's success is very hard (unless you have the mass budget and time WoW had to develop) as well as kind of foolish.. its like counting chickens before hatching sorta deal. the draw back is players want their games NOW... if they dont get it NOW its a fail. if they think it looks like WoW ... its fail (companies are stupid in trying to repeat some of WoW's selling points by cloning them :/) so because of all this... there are threads upon threads of "X game is fail" until either WoW shuts down totally or a game comes out that WoW players can finally say.. "YA that one is on par with WoW" we wont see an end to fail threads. just how the MMO side is going now. i generally look at videos and reviews of games by players and paid people. as well as look at the game it self it fails on its own merits.. not weither or not it sold a trillion boxed versions or if while playing it, it will walk my dog.. paint my house.. make my bed and make me dinner... (tho all those would really be nice O_O) games have to stand and fall on their own.. and not by compairing it to WoW... unless its a private server hosting WoW.. or its a new blizzard mmo... called WoW 2... or something ... BUT ofcourse all this is my own opionon ... to each his own i guess |

I found no solution so far. But I'm mostly just mumbling to myself anyway what goes right now through my head. :P
hmm its possible. i use asus boards so i cant really give you any suggestions.. apart from trying to google a hotfix maybe..then again maybe the sound is getting altered from desktop to fraps? or something. my sound auto mutes my media setting when i restart/turn my pc on... its quite annoying when i forget ... load a game and cant figure out why i hear nothing... lmao... so def. check your fraps sound and even windows default sound settings.. OH and if you use skype (as alot of people do now days) it could be altering your settings too.. mine did a few times :/... hope that helps anyway :D |

naa dont kick them out.. milk them :P charge them rent ^_^ hell make them pay for net usage (unless they have their own O_O) lmao then you could get extra income for upgrades HAHAHA
ofcourse i disavow all knowledge of this post... i in no way shape or form assisted in the "farming" of your children's piggy bank.......

I work long hours and work hard (not in my "parents basement") and most of that money goes into paying off my home and my car and my Bills- I dont have spare money for toys atm. Usually not making assumptions toward you either) someone with the spare money to spend $1200 on a whim to upgrade a PC for GAMES- is someone who is living at home with Mom and Dad, has no responsibilities and/or has more money than they know what to do with. I keep a Jar in my cupboard called my "P.C. Jar" which I toss a few bucks in when I have extra. This pays for my games and any upgrades I might need and I assure you- That jar is nearly always empty =P ..But its not due to lack of a job- Its due to priorities and wanting tangeble assets rather than toys that will be obsolete in a year.
actually, apart from living at home (as it saves on bills "no rent") i can hardly afford pc upgrades i saved up for mine lmao back when my job wasnt cutting my hours lmao. just generally people who cant afford a simple 300 upgrade on a pc (which is fairly simple to save up for) dont work or spend money on "useless" items like buying console game systems that are discontinued... |

meh that guild leader is clearly of the elitest group of guilds the kind that make wow videos crying for more dots LOTS OF DOTS!!! dont agro... NOO noob dont agro... stop dots.. ect. the fact he feels the need to pity someone who found a game they enjoy is rather interesting ... its like going up to a person who is clearly enjoying a hamburger and saying... "i pity you, your enjoying that hamburger that was a cow... and me and my buddies who make all this money found that cow to be distasteful".... but meh to each their own. nice job on the videos, i havent played FE since it was in "invite only alpha" so its nice to see how nicely it turned out dispite the naysayers and bashers, im pretty sure FE will be like darkfall, a niche game like most games are now days. too many people go out to find THAT perfect game.. only to fail at smelling the roses along the path lol tho might i suggest you tweek your mic volume.. my system is set pretty high on sound and it was very hard to hear you at points tho i guess i could have upped my sound my-self lolol |

umm if its going to only cost you like 300 bucks to upgrade... get out of ur parents basement and get a job O_o clearly if your out partying you should be old enough to get one... then the cost of 285 bucks wont matter for squat.. hell i dropped 1200 on my pc when i built it last year lmao so ya ur argument of 300 bucks is moot...
FE isnt that bad of a game. graphics are weak but meh graphics account for 10% of game enjoyment anyway.. BUT hot damn your pc must be pretty old anyway... |

so games are built with 2 sets in mind. the high end and the low end, tho they do optimize it as best they can :/ |

Blaming Blizzard for bad MMORPG's is just silly.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/18/09 3:19:09 PM
OK ill make it offical via this thread. im blaming blizzard for me stubbing my toe on my bed!!!! cause they clearly have created the problem of toe stubbing on beds.
honestly tho... blizzard makes acceptable games, i dont like their newer stuff personally but meh. what kills most games now days tho in the MMO section is the fact companies what to make a success like WoW was to blizzard when it went live. they want to make a few billion in subs in a week (guesstimate) but thanks to WoW people are now totally tired of the cookie cutters. we can honestly say after the many years people put in to wow they are tired of grinding like that. but blizzard didnt kill games. game companies kill games |

funny thing is Aion can surcomvent this whole issue/debate by doing 2 things
1) removing GG as its nothing but a waste of space and if you dont know a whole lot of computers, becomes almost impossible to remove. 2) limiting the client side server access. basicly making all movement/attacks/timers ect server side. there by you cant automate it. VERY easy to do. not always cost effective tho, as some times it costs up to a spare server to run. OFcourse this all relys on AION being coded correctly and properly, if it is i see no reason why NcSoft cant design their game to not even need GG or any sort of anti-hack. simply because it would require hacking the game server to tweek anything. not saying people wont try.. but when 80% of all game "hackers" are stupid little script kiddies who couldnt code their way out of a paper bag... i really dont see little timmy loowho hacking AION's server just so he can jump 0.002* higher then the rest.

for people not wanting GG there are 2 simple ways to go about it. 1) not install anything with GG 2) or break down and search the net for one of the Many websites that deal with disabling it, and setting it up to not install period when you install Aion or any game. (granted this is a form of illegal tampering so if you do it.. your choice) thats the best way to avoid GG. as i dislike/trust GG as it doesnt work period to block hackers and it tried to disable my firewall more then once while i was trying to run a crappy little MMO, pretty sad when an anti-cheat program is flagged by an AV and firewall security system as a hack attempt... (and no, i know for a fact it was GG. my firewall is programmed to tell me exactly where the alert came from. it pointed exactly at the GG folder and the .exe file lol) no anti-cheat program should be flagged as rootkit or malware... its makes it sound hypocritcal and full of BS when it is |

Call me crazy but... I would rather it be P2P
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 9/01/09 5:07:45 PM
p2p vs f2p has nothing to do with content. to get a good idea look at the player made mods created for games. like half life and such. paid game.. free mod... either has more content then the other in all honest. a p2p company has just as much drive to fix bugs/exploits and add content as a f2p company. the whole argument is flawed when you assume that p2p games have more content then a f2p game. neither has more content then the other, as content is added via patches and updates. severe game altering updates are added in expantions which is why an EP is a huge file and not a few KB-MB. GW1 and 2 will have just as much content as a fully loaded WoW or WAR client. both will have the same quality of support staff as well. arguing this is pointless. WoW was built for grinding to keep you paying, if you got lv 1000 in 1 solid 24hr playing whats the point paying money?? GW gives you casual play so lower grind, as it was claimed to be a heavier pvp game... reach end game play pvp do story mode more times to get more unlocked skills ect.
both games are equal on content. but each has their content laid out diffrently so it SEEMS like one has more when it doesnt. the only bonus p2p has over f2p is less gold spamers as they cant create new accounts every day when old ones are banned. paying for new accounts cut in to profit. but f2p beat p2p in terms of players/parties. its generally a little bit more easier to find players to party in a f2p game then p2p. granted p2p has equal enough oppertunity to get parties going. its just seems easier to find people to party with on the fly in a f2p over p2p (less hardcore grinding parties in f2p..) |

actually DFO has been doing Ads for years. they had web-bars back when it was first published that it was in development.. but they kind of hooped them selves with all the bad press now days.. :/ |

Darkfall was developed in Greece. Aventurine is a comapny based in Greece. As such, it has nothing to do with germany. Unless you think Greece and Germany are the same country. So why don't -you- move along before you get face-smacked, huh? I realize Greece and Germany are easy to mistake. Same first letter and all that. But honestly. Never mind that Germany has Crytek, Bluebyte, Radon Labs and several other developer studios you apparently like to ignore. u forgot Ubisoft, blacksea studios (if BSS is still alive..) and many other decent <-> high quality companies that rape EA ...... cant help it germans seem to know how to work it HAHAHA ..... ok bad joke i know.... move along..... >>"
but i agree person = troll... bashing a country over a game studio is like bashing the USA over blizzard or EA or microcrap... err microsoft... (sorry my hand slipped.....) |

meh.. no one really noticed you can manually set the rating bar??? so if 10 people hate the game rate it 0 the score will drop 10 points ... same as if a bunch of people rate it 71 it goes up.. personally all the reviews i saw of DFO have been pretty fair honestly. (not counting the scores but the actual discussion the reviewer made)
given that all gave it decent marks for unique ness and its attempt at breaking the current day standard mold... BUT at the same time they all seem to show the same faults the game has.. so personally i dont get why there is such a debate on reviews... honestly if someone is going to pick up a game because X site said it was a 10/10 well that person is a retarded gerbal and i have this lovely beach front property in antartica for dirt cheap for sale.... its 10/10 on the ideal beach front property score.....
a review should be used as a steping stone in the path to Choosing wether or not you will try the software.. NOT to hold your hand and give you the software... its like beta testing a car before buying it.. you review the car... check out its pro/cons ... compare price.. colours... extras and test drive it.. then buy it or not...
all this review BS... is like saying... IF the review doesnt high rank DFO its full of fail and lies and cant be trusted... BUT if its rigged and gives max score WELL its full of WIN and can be compaired to the bible... O_O
td:r.... reviews = personal views and can only be taken with a grain of salt... cant be viewed as how everyone will treat/find the program.. nor should it be used as a reason to play or not play said program. |

people complain cause of 3 reasons 1) they hate EA (i used to really like EA but now they just make shitty games.. its like going to a fancy diner and getting mcdonalds) 2) they hate the game cause its not THERE game.... 3) they cant win the prize cause they suck...
i think #3 is the most important one... after all only about 6 people win... 1 grand prize 5 knockoffs.. |

HOLY SHIZA this has to be the most Epic thread in the world right now... best thing to read before having to go to work, i say :P if that guy wins im selling my consoles and pc... never to play online again cause not only does he want his ban over turned but he wants it to be made Illegal for a game company to ban anyone... as well as cost moderators their jobs... which means any game online your going to have the lam-o-tards and greifers without any means of combating them... plus lets not forget scriptkiddies and gold spammers... they will beable to do anything they want cause once banned they can sue....
so honestly i hope he epically fails and loses badly arguing the age agreement is weak.. cause the company does not regulate who buys their games or who clicks the agree... if your 90yr grandmother buys you a game rated for ages 40++ and your 10... thats your parents and grandmothers fault not the companys... same if they click the agree to RnR popups that state you must be THIS OLD to play. very rare to hear companies losing to that, but who knows... but personally i wouldnt want this tard to win hes most likely one of those screamo kiddies who crys and crys when you knife them in the back multiple times online... or who screams in to their mic about how badly your raping them... do we really WANT these kind of people O_O???
(epic lulz at the america ranting hahahahah priceless :P) |

i think its funny no one even thought to concider maybe blizzard is going to do an IP port of an asian grinder game.. like many other companies do, they will find some popular game in korea/china/tawian/ or japan and port it over to english players doesnt have to be WC or SC or WoW based :P it could be full of fairies and butterflys for all we know O_O or perhaps a carebear mmo when you shoot rainbows.. lmao long story short.. who cares until blizzard steps up and says what it is. |

there are/have been MMO/RTS/FPS games put out where you have 1-5 people in an RTS mode the rest are in a FPS view screen. the RTS guys drop buildings and give orders the rest build and attack people they have been pretty popular. though i dont think a full on RTS would work, simply because it would be very hard to do. i played a net/lan match with some buddies in AOE2 where we all played as 1 player it was pretty hard at the start to figure out what your doing.. until we managed to regulate who did what and where. so its possible to do but very difficalt and i dont think many companies want to take the risk to make a RTS mmo. when they can just throw in a MP in to a standard RTS and let the players kill each other that way. |
