Why do people enjoy long level grinds?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/02/08 3:41:45 PM
I think that for a game like World of Warcraft the time spendt leveling should indeed be short because of its content not realy starting until your max level. I also think this is a totaly wrong approuch to a game like a MMO where you play in a persistant world. I think half the fun of MMOs is increasing my characters skill and potential. If I wanted a character who had reached his maximum potential I could play any multiplayer FPS out there. I personaly belive a MMO should have no such thing as endgame. Where you spend all your game time making your character better and not only through gear. It's also important that theres content through the entier "level range" of the game. As you said the fun stuff is usualy in the end. This is the major problem with most MMOs today. I think Warhammer Online is doing a decent job here trying to bring content to all lvls throug "tiers", but i belive they could have extended the amount of content and the time required to reach max level even more. So far the MMO which have done the best job at it (In my oppinion) is EVE online. Ive only just started playing and being "months" away from what can be called the "end game" of EVE, Im still able to have fun by doing missions with my friends and even PvPing as long as we gang up with each other. Talking about PvP another problem I see in most MMOs that makes reaching max lvl such an important goal is that even 100s of new players can't kill someone who have reached max level. Of course you should be more powerful than a newly created character but you should also have trouble dealing with a lot of them charging you at once. Having fun through the entire game while at the same time experiencing progress for your character is the key elements to a good MMORPG and what makes them diffrent from most other competive games, again in my oppinion. This got a bit long but I think it was needed to show why I think fast leveling is just right for a game like World of Warcraft, but not right for MMOs in general.

What if men had no say in anything?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 8/01/06 12:03:34 AM
If men had no say in anything. More Violence Men are stronger than women physicaly I know that both myself and most guys I know get the feeling like they want to knock someone down when everything feels like its not going theire way at all. And I think most men would have tried to fight for theire rights in one way or another. About the war thing MAYBE. The way I see it even if men are more physical most men dont want to take it as long as to war were civilians and other neutral parties are hurt. The way I see it its not because of men having the top spots in politics that the earth got a lot of wars going on but its because its the wrong men that got the top politican spots. And if we take in consideration that the only thing that have changed is that men have no saying there would just be the wrong women on top. Also more focus on sex. The current amount of focus on sex have been brought to the open by women and theire fight to be allowed to do whatever they want and so on. And with focus on sex I dont mean more porn but more talk about sex in public. If this is a good or bad thing everyone should decide themself. That's all I can come up with for now but this is a thread that should realy be discussed by women who know how to be civil in discussions and not just turn it into a flamefest personaly atleast I dont know enough about what women would have done diffrent than men if they didnt know how it would have been if men was in controll(if that made any sense) EDIT: Oh and english aint my primary language ^^ |

No wonder why the mmorpg is complete shite tbh...

WoW is a good MMORPG but not my kind of MMORPG I loved early SWG and I hate WoW because it's success destroyed SWG. I dont blame WoW players or anything (but theres a lot more 12 year olds in WoW than most other MMOs). For those who dont belive that SWG was destroyed by WoW's success heres an example of SWG copying WoW. http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/images/features/general/profession-expertise/jediexpertise-2.jpg This have nothing to do with WoW's player but WoW's sucess the problem is that companies like SOE dont realise that WoW's sucess is because of GREAT advertising before hand and a good game to base it on. WoW's graphics aint great theire extremly close to those of WC3 but I think its good graphics for the game it gives that feel I expected from it. Gameplaywise WoW aint that much easier than most other games the only place where WoW is extremly easy compared to other games is the crafting system. Now if anyone belive that the changes in SWG are because of oppinions from anyone then thats all wrong SWG is changing because of WoW's success and SOE's greed. |

My Final Thoughts: MMORPGS = JUNK
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 7/09/06 10:15:09 AM
Im realy not active on this forums but wanted to state my oppinion on this matter. ATM I dont think theres any MMORPG on the market that is realy GREAT. I loved SWG before all the CU shit but it was not because it was a good MMO it was because I had some great people to play with. Personaly I think all games today except WoW is making theire money because of theire community. WoW is the only game that simple and entertaining enough to enjoy without people. Its one of the few MMOs that Ive tried that got decent story behind the missions and is simple at the same time with enjoyable if cartoonish graphics. Now the bad part about WoW is how you have to keep playing to keep up with your friends. Personal I hate that and combined with WoW not having that great community (some people may not agree with me on this, but compared to other games I felt like it was all about the grind even when grouping). Personaly I wish they made a single player RPG based on warcraft or a warcraft 4 instead. Personaly the best MMORPG I ever played was Matrix online the first month(s) the whole story thing was amazing there was several IG events with Staff playing major characters like Niobie, Morpheus, The Merovingian (and so on) It was a huge amount of RP (to much at some points my guild almost fell apart during a player event because of disagreement) It was just a great feeling. On top of these events there was player made radios and a IG media player that made it even more enjoyable. The game was HORRIBLE it was a missions system where u called picked up missions and they were pretty much the same just in diffrent spots. But the community and player events is what made it the best MMO Ive ever played. Then they sold or gave it to SOE not sure about the details there and now they got theire very own CU ^^ YAY! But anyways this is just my oppinions and im not to experienced in the MMORPG world even if Ive played about 10 or so MMOs (AO,EQ,EQ2,WoW,MxO,UO,SWG,DDO,RO and a lot of beta, open beta and trial ones) Some may consider this a lot of MMOs but considering the amount on the market (way to many crappy ones) I wouldnt call it a lot. Also Ive tried GW but GW aint a MMORPG its close but its not a MMORPG it just isnt big enough in amount of diversity through equipment, proffesions or skills. Personaly I felt like playing Diable 2 online. |
