Which is a complete 180 from the interview he gave STOked the week before. More than likely, they'll just start releasing the new episodic missions a couple of weeks early.
Season 4 is scheduled for June, according to Stahl's recent interview on Stoked. Other than C-Store, there are no content releases coming out before then.

If you love Star trek you will like this game, If not then you where never a trekkie.

Pretty sure you don't get to determine who a Trekkie based on whether or not they like some half-assed video game. Being a Trekkie isn't about a video game. It's about liking Star Trek. I go back to this game now and then to see if it's changed for the better, determine it isn't there yet, and cancel it again. It's not about being a Trekkie, it's about the game being worth playing. And it isn't. Not yet.

I will say that I'm Trekkie enough to have a Star Trek avatar though.

Because he mentions and quotes (but strangely does not link) the thread on the PlanetSide forums in which Virrago (PlanetSide Senior CSR) confirms it. It's near the bottom of page 2.

http://forums.station.sony.com/ps/posts/list.m?start=15&topic_id=88000026753

He later goes on to mention that more information will be forthcoming in several weeks.

So, what was it about? I see a vague reference to Jupiter Fleet in Stormshade's final post, but that's pretty much it.

I'll give you one for the sensor probes not being launched for long distance sensors.

Why in the Hell would anyone have to mine in the Star Trek universe when they have replicators?

Tractor Beams are in the game via Bridge Officers.

Because there are certain things that you can't replicate, of course. What do you think all those "anomolies" are, anyway? Replicators also still require raw material to convert into the things you create with the replicate. You can't create something out of nothing.

Not that any of this matters. Cryptic pays lipservice to canon or Treknology when it suits their purposes, and completely disregards it at all other times. Or have you not wondered why the money-free Federation has 15 different forms of currency in this game? And that's not counting C-store cash.

The Over all Space Combat, is more fun, and better than in EVE online in my view VS the full automatic combat in eve, In Startrek, you actually have to Adjust shields to survive, and such,  and fire your weapons correctly to destroy ships, and it makes PVP, and pve more fun.

You  obviously haven't discovered autofire yet. Space combat in STO is really little more than turning circles while letting your weapons autofire, while hitting the specials as they cycle through their timers.

But if you enjoy it, great. Have fun.

Since the game wasn't actually made with Trekkies as a target audience, they might want to wait until next year , by which time they might actually have put enough Trek into it to make it remotely interesting to the rank and file.

No, I won't buy another game from Cryptic.

To be fair, that mission, "Assimilation", has been toned down extensively from when it was on Tribble. It's no longer the insane Borg zerg that it once was.

I agree that Season 3 is when we'll probably see things going in the right direction, having gotten out from under Zinc's boot, but I also see Season 2 as being important in laying the groundwork for that. It's pretty obvious now that they finally have people that actually care about the IP running things. From what I've read on the forums, now that they've finally won the right to make STO start acting like Trek, the next battle is with the accountants and PR types that are insisting that everything new go into the c-store.

Assimilation is exactly the same.  Just constant chain holds everytime you end up engaging.  What's even worse is the AI on the BOs.  They start pulling other groups that aren't even hostile,  unless you constantly micro-manage them.

You'll have to tell me which version of Assimilation you were playing, because I just ran through it in half an hour and I was only held about 5 times. Most of the wandering Borg and even the alcoved Borg are gone from the first part of the interior map, where you're looking for the correct teleport device. You don't need to fight at all on that level, but if you do, it's fairly easy to manage.

Managing the bridge officers isn't that difficult. Just right-click to disable any of their abilities that might aggro more mobs (turrets, grenades) and set them to not attack by default. Designate targets by using the Y key. Or, if you can't be bothered by that, simply park them in an area where they can do all of their regular attacks without having line of sight to any mobs that you don't intentionally pull. And yes, those areas are in the map, especially the last area.

There's a 14 day trial now, so keys are no longer necessary.

It's pretty much one, MAYBE two battles per server now. Nothing like the old days.

I believe there is actually only one server left.

There are no true space simulation games. People can't seem to get past the fact that inertia is real and it takes mass to change your vector. If you run out of reaction mass you just keep going until you burn up or hit something. Wouldn't be much fun would it?

there are a couple games that are true simulations, but they're single player and I can't recall their names.

 Orbiter.

It's like flying in jello with Zeus holding onto your ship and making you "CORKSCREW" up and down. So I suspend disbelief and trudge on thinking that it was that campy and silly episode where the crew all met the GODS of GREECE.

OMG! how stupid was that episode?!?! I was like, "WhyTF!!!!!!!!!!! are the greek gods carrying on like that?" Evidently the writers never took basic world history.

I dumped this game but still hold out hope that a real game company can develop a real STO MMO.

The space physics problem proves that Cryptic just stripped COL and added new pics of ships - it's like playing that horrible champions game but your super hero suddenly turns into a star ship  HAHAHAHA

The episode was "Who Mourns for Adonais' and the only Greek god actually portrayed was Apollo (the others having already long since deciding to leave Humanity to its own devices.) And it certainly wasn't that bad, having touched on what was then a really new concept - that the ancient gods had actually been visitors from outer space. You'd see this touched on again by Battlestar Galactica (both versions) and it was the heart and soul of what Stargate was about.

The vertical travel issue is a problem because Cryptic made a number of encounters that were out of plane, which completely wrecks the "tall ship" feeling they were going for. They have said they're looking into increasing the vertical pitch angle to 85 degrees (from the current 45 degrees) which is just short of straight up, and that would be fine.

Every MMO I've played has some form of death penalty.  Shockingly, I have to side with Cryptic on this one if my understanding on how it works is correct.

Normal difficulty=no DP, normal chances of loot, normal XP/SP rewards.  Higher difficulty=better chance to better loot, more XP/SP.  Is this correct?  If so, I don't see a problem.

This is correct. There is no change at all for gameplay on Normal difficulty.

I have no problem with LOTRO, in fact I play it. The problem with Jordan's work is just what you said. Its not new. Its generic fantasy. The reluctant hero, a model of perfection. Just like the heroes of LOTR. Hey, that was cool all those years ago, but now fantasy as evolved.  Culture has evolved. I enjoy reading about heroes who may not be true heroes. They don't always forgive. Sometimes they do morally improper things to get the job done. Sometimes you don't know who the real bad guy is(Fire and Ice and Black Company). That's real life.

Amazingly, what you just described is Rand al'Thor.

When your game engine is so limited that you can't do most the stuff you want to do with it, it's time to get a new engine. I'm beginning to think that the CO engine was simply a piece of crap from the get-go.

Haha, the games really are quite separate you know?  Both games were developed at the same time, CO was started from scratch in early 2007, and STO around the same time.   No previous engine assets were carried over from City of Heroes or Marvel Universe, that is what "started from scratch" means.

So, it's time to find a new scapegoat for why STO sucks, CO has very little to do with it.   Also, the engine is quite technically impressive for how responsive it is, but that doesn't show up in STO because that game is so slow.

Zinc has stated in interviews even before launch that the engine is an updated version of the original COH engine.

From the very beginning their podcasts were very positive and often bordered on fanboy gushing. After the game reseased it looked like the strain of gushing for the game started to hit a few of them (it seems like the fat, beared one is a fanboy through and through and he holds no negative thoughts on the game at all) and they started to express more and more negativity. It's like they can't keep up the farce an lie like this all the time, and the cracks are starting to show.

But overall, they still act quite a bit like fanboys and are overly positive about the game. In essence, they are lying about how they feel about the game with every podcast, and I'm really not sure why.

It also looks like one of the STOked dudes has been removed from the council, I understand it was because of some comment he made about hating Klingons (was the comment "I've never trusted Klingons and I never will. I can never forgive them for the death of my boy" by any chance?) But I don't think they actively worked to get him fired from the council because of that, it was more of a reaction to having this puppet council foisted on them by the last minute with absolutely no consultation with the community (but hey, that's what Cryptic does best!)

And there is nothing wrong with having positive podcasts. Again, their show isn't about all the negatives, it's about how to play the game itself. I mean, are you really having that much trouble finding constant negativity about STO that you need them to put it into their podcast every week too?

They aren't lying about how they feel about the game. They enjoy it. But they also know that there are a lot of problems with it, and they recognize it. Enjoying it and not liking parts of it is possible, you know.

Bryan was never on the Advisory Council, so none of the three have been "removed". According to the podcasts, he doesn't have the time to play it very much, which is why he was barely a Lt Cmdr as of last week. Only Chris and Jeremy were ever listed as being on the Council.

The comment about Klingons was that they felt Cryptic should have held the Klingons from launch, instead of releasing them half-assed like they did, and released them at Season 1 or Season 2 when they were much more complete. And in the feeding frenzy of that thread on the official boards, that's been completely changed to them somehow wanting the Klingons removed. One person stated it, and it caught on like wildfire despite being completely inaccurate. It's pretty obvious who watches the show, who doesn't, and who is halfassing it.

For the record, I cancelled my subscription three days into release (at the end of headstart) and there is nothing Cryptic can do to ever bring me back to that mess, except perhaps go F2P and refund my $60. But I'm not going to sit here and let my friend have his character assinated over distortions and outright lies.
