We could totally start a guild before it goes live.

Originally posted by Toxia That was my first reaction as well. We argue way to much here to get together and start working as a team. Plus then I would feel bad when I called people out on this website to just log in later and have to be in a guild with the person I just called out. |

What every game (including MMOs) should copy from SWTOR
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/21/12 7:28:29 PM
I just want to point out that as someone who is color blind I rarely have any issues with games. If things are color coordinated and I have trouble distinguishing between the two I get used to the placement of things and go with that. Never has my color blindness kept me from being able to play an MMO effectively and I'm pretty dang color blind. I fail all the tests, kind of made my military career pigenholed too, which sucked. |

I'm thinking it might stick around a lot longer than other people are anticipating. Many say MMOs never rebound from a horrible launch and to this day they are pretty correct. Yet many people are forgetting that this game will get a "second release" many people have been waiting for the PS3 release and if they make the needed changes before then those people won't have the bad taste in their mouths that many of us who purchased it on release have. If this second release is a success or even a semi-success it could bring back some people who didn't like it. This idea of mine all rests of the idea that they do in fact fix all the crap and add enough content for the playerbase. If they do not do those things by PS3 release then I have no hope. |

What's the most OFF-THE-WALL feature you would add to your MMO.

A cool mustache tool where it actually takes time to grow and shape your mustache. Then every month they could give out prizes and have everyone vote on their favorite mustache.

Or is the fact that there are actual quests make it less sandbox even though it still has all the freedom and choices people love about the sandbox sub genre? More choices is always better if you ask me. I want as much sandboxy type things I can get but at the same time have quests and PvE activity, that is as non-linear as they can possibly make it. What more do people want for a game to be a sandbox or does it really just not exist to some of you? |

Why some people like to play healer?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/21/12 6:57:41 AM
For me my first roll is typically a tank and my second roll is generally a healer. I find that in most games they are the most challenging aspects of group play. It's not really about helping people for me though I do love to help my friends, the type I help I do would be just fine as any class. Mainly I find DPS classes just boring. You sit there and do your rotations and watch the numbers fly. With tanking and healing you have to react to the situation and be in control. Otherwise your party fails, plus I know a lot of tanks and healers suck and I don't so I love all the compliments I get for not being one of those people that simply rolls healer or tank so they can get party invites. Healing takes a certain amount of finesse and concentration which is another attractive attribute to me. Plus not having to sit around trying to get a group is a bonus but that's a reason way down my list, I would still choose those two classes even if I had the difficulty a DPS generally has. |

Well I think they are probably missing out on some people because of computer specs. Many people don't like to have to build their own PCs or pay the premium price for high end gaming rigs. I have cut down a lot on how often I upgrade my PC because of cost. That will all change when there are some games really worth the investment though. As of right now any game that I am playing or will be play won't require any upgrades at all. That could change though when GW2, Secret World, and Archeage are finally released. I'm sure one of those games will be worth my time so an upgrade will be worth my money. PC gaming is not a cheap hobby and never has been. It's not the same as console gaming where you can spend a few hundred dollars every 5 years. You will spend thousands of dollars over a 5 year period especially if you upgrade often. |

George Lucas blames "Critics" for killing future Star Wars.
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 1/19/12 11:13:29 AM
I was not as angry with the prequels as many others are/were but they were no where near as good as the originals. Yet I still found them entertaining, yes improvements could have been made. Like annakins crappy acting and jar jar binks to name a few. My biggest complaint was his re-releasing of the originals. Can I please just have the option to watch them without the changes? Many other movies give you the option to watch the theatrical version or the director's cut I just want the option. Mainly because my VHS versions are so old and overused they look like absolute crap and they are the only reason I still own a stupid VCR. Just let me get rid of my VCR and I won't bash you ever again! |

Siege engines being used to "easy-mode" world bosses
General Discussion « ArcheAge 1/17/12 6:44:46 PM
I'm not sure how I feel about it. Part of me thinks it adds just another level of depth to combat. Kind of like how artillery added to real life warfare. Another part of me sees it kind of like cheating too, I want it to be me and my companions against the boos. As long as they have some bosses inside dungeons where you can't do it and others roaming outside where you can I'm ok with it I guess. |

Will MMORPGs ever return to the Everquest/UO Days?

DAOC was my first. Not sure why it's not on your list as it was a lot of peoples first MMO. Interestingly it is not my favorite. For most people there first is their favorite but for me third time was a charm with ffxi. Though I will admit DAoC, SWG, and L2 are all very dear to my heart and if I had to pick a second favorite I don't think I could decide between those three. |

Will MMORPGs ever return to the Everquest/UO Days?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/16/12 11:51:41 AM
Originally posted by FrostWyrm This is has always been my train of thought. The saddest part about it was the fact that so many people wanted exactly this when it came out. Blizzard essentially "fixed" all or most of the problems people had been complaining about for years. Forced grouping, not knowing what to do next without spending hours on forums, the losing faction being screwed constantly, insanely time consuming and harsh death penalties. All those things were major complaints about the games prior to WoW. So blizzard fixed it and now that all the complainers got what they wanted the rest of us who like those "problems" are stuck out to dry. Or we continue playing games that are 8-12 years old even when all these new shiny games comes out, all the while the people we loved playing with over the years slowly fade away. The genre had a paridigm shift in 2004 and the games that have tried to shift it back have been considered failures. Even games that were out like SWG quickly changed to fit this new model of success. |

I play MMORPGs mainly for the social aspect. For all the other questions I can generally get those from other games. I can emerse myself in a Single player RPGs and explore that world too if I wanted but it's not the same as doing it with other people. It's having the other people around and the friendships made that keep me coming back for more. It's also this very reason why I am having trouble getting into some of the recent releases. Socialization and community building have been systematically de-emphasized lately. Mainly because people grew tired of forced grouping, and get that. Yet at what cost? Freedom to jump in and go do things with perfect strangers and almost made everyone a perfect stranger. No longer do I meet people and keep in touch with them I just go on my way and then do things with another random group of people. So to be more strateforward it's social I play MMORPGs to be social. |

Originally posted by Xexv My thoughts too. Please explain your statement. I have backed up my view in an earlier post. My view is cheating is cheating. It's great they are doing charity work but their entire business model is designed around cheating. MMORPGs are games and cheaters can ruin games so I will not condone their behavior. Can you explain why that is so unwise? I realize they are not as bad as say drug dealers, or organized crime lords but since when was "there not as bad as these guys" or "well hey they do charity work" ever been good enough to excuse people from breaking the rules?

It's great that they are doing charity work and all that. It's also cool that they don't condone hacks, monopolizing or other forms of cheating. I wonder how they are able to enforce this but that's neat. All that said, none of that changes the fact that RMT is cheating, and MMORPGs are games and in games cheating should not be tolerated. No amount of charity work or code of ethics changes the fact that they are making a profit off of cheating and cheaters to buy their products. Now if developers want to change their game to support this form of cheating then it's no longer cheating if it's how the game is made. I probably won't buy that game but they can do what they want. I want to clarify that I don't think RMT is some evil industry like drug trafficking, or actually theivery, and I don't have any sort of racial profile that goes along with it, I just really don't like cheaters. |

Combat and Questing - the weak links of ArcheAge?
General Discussion « ArcheAge 1/01/12 4:07:23 PM
The combat may need some polish. But honestly almost every game could improve on it's combat. I myself like traditional MMO combat where teamwork is key and it's not about zerging or who has the better twitch skills. It's about who can assess the situation, come up with effective strategies, and work well as a team. As far as dynamic events and Voice acting, I could really care less about both of those things. AA looks like it's focusing on making a vast world that is full of content and areas to explore with freedom to do just about anything being the main attraction. If they wasted a bunch of time on voice acting it would limit this a lot, plus "dynamic events" just seems like some catch phrase thrown around these days. We used to just call those named monsters or boss fights. The only thing different I see is everyone can join in and they are more randomized but still just boss fights. |
|
|
Yeah those two factions are just to start off with. You will be able to leave both of them and form various "pirate" factions. I have a feeling this will be a big trend and guilds will form their own alliances with groups on the third continent. At least I can hope that will be the case. |

What do you guys think of this article on Massively about upcoming Developed MMOs (TOP 10)?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/15/11 3:02:50 PM
Though I admit I haven't been following any of those even remotely close the one that gets my attention the most is World of Darkness. A White Wolf influenced game is something that has been needed to be done for a long time. Plus with CCP behind it I don't think it will follow what other companies have been putting out now or whenever it is released. Another bonus is it isn't traditional high fantasy or sci-fi which has dominated the MMO landscape. Plus the white wolf vampires and werewolves are not like the lame pre-teen sparkly ones like in the twilight movies. They are what vampires and werewolves should be. |
