The way patent law works today, you have to patent everything.  It will come back to bite you if it don't.  It is not uncommon for people to have created something then receive a cease and desist order because someone goes and files a patent and the original creator didn't.

Its not SOE.  Its our busted and fragmented patent system.

I love MMO's and this game slightly deviates from the High Fantasy genre.  It looks like a nice change.

Wonderful .. I'm sure you will provide a link about how someone hit cap in days, in the original EQ1, in 1999.

 

It's probably more fun to spit stuff out than to actually find a souce, I'm guessing?

 

The only way to power level in EQ1 was to have a big guild, who would "sacrifice" their experience for your gain .. similar to how WoW powerleveling is done.  But that only works so far, eventually your guild needs to catch up (while you sleep?).  Even then nobody got max level in EQ1 in "days" ... I think you might want to know what you are talking about first :P

Hmm...Pretty sure it didn't take a week for the fastest levelers on our server.  Only source you're gonna find is a player from launch.  You can go look.  I don't care enough to.

BTW, no connection between EQ and VG.  A real MMO developer and Publisher are making this game.

I think most the complaints in this thread will go away after a year.

SOE chose not to flood the game with massivev amounts of content but instead build and add slowly over time.  With a shooter, the core mechanics are the most important.  If that's not done right, no one is playing your game after the next MW hits.

About the guns being bland in appearance...I think SOE is trying not to use a lot of models so that gamers can submit skins through the Player Studio when it launches.  For those who not familiar with Player Studio, you can submit skins and models to be added to the game.  These items are sold in the cash shop and you get like 30% of each sale.  That's my theory, anyway.

I am not big into shooters but I enjoy my time in PS2.  This really makes me positive about what's going to be in EQ Next.  I can't wait to see that game next year.

Previous subscribers get access to all characters created and all expansions they ever paid for.  If they don't have it, all they had to do is submit a ticket and it would have been resolved by CS.

I don't know about the expansions, since all my characters were locked and I couldn't see if the expansions actually worked or not (my wizard is too low)...but well...all my characters except the wizard were locked.

 

Unless it was a bug solved by support...that would be one nasty bug. Figured it was just because I wasn't paying a sub...and since the characters were unusable and took up the character slots, I just deleted them so I could make room for an usable character. 

You can probably submit a ticket and have your deleted characters restored.  They did this for people that deleted their characters.  They grandfathered in all characters after day 2 of F2P.  And don't delete characters for SOE games.  If you just submit a ticket, they will just activate the characters you want to play with.

Here are the two things that could be the issue...

1) Your account wasn't flagged correctly.  This happened to lots of people when F2P started.  And that was fixed by just submitting a ticket.

2) The client streams the game in the background.  It downloads the zones by level range pretty much.  If your character is in a zone that hasn't been patched yet, it won't let you log in.  It sounds like one of your charactes may have had this happen.

Just as a note...SOE is the publisher not the developer.  The game has nothing to do with The Agency.  If you want to see what is left of the agency, go play Payday.

I for one don't think this will get MMO of the year, not when NeverWinter is getting good buzz, plus the GW2 hype.. Also isn't it clear they are rushing this to get it out before summer rolls around, because if they delayed it until September or later,  WoW xpac, maybe GW2 & NeverWinter will steal its chance to shine and person will pass it over...

Its clear they are releasing it early and hope to patch quickly later,  ***Cough, Cough*** Its AoC all over again, where rushed launch is concern...

NWN is made by Cryptic.  Its going to have lockboxes and pay to win items(please see recent cash shop where you buy mods to gear).  It will also be unbalanced, lack any endgame and have bad pvp.  They will spend 2 years after release revamping early game content.  It will have a nice character creator and that will be the end.

To OP:  TSW has a great questing system with bad AI, horrible combat and confusing crafting.  People will play it for the story and quests, then put it on the shelf after a couple months.  By December, we won't remember TSW even came out this year.  Please see AOC and AO if you have any doubts.  That is what happened to those games that released in a similar state as TSW.

OP,

There are two reasons people aren't seeing the dynamic events. 

First is, they don't know what they look like.  People head towards the hearts on the map thinking they are the dynamic events. (I did this)  The hearts and POI's are just to get players to move around the map.  Before they put the hearts in, people just felt confused because our old MMO behavior took over.  The dynamic events just kind of pop onto the map when you're in the area.  They can be a beast, or a wave of enemies or even an escort quest.  But usually when they start you get a notice that "An event has started" and a big circle appears on your map.  Head towards that area. 

The second reason is that the newbie area is mostly a zerg fest.  The events don't usually fail or partially fail so its hard to see the different states of the event.  The even spawn timer has increased to give players a chance to see the event so it does look like WAR quests atm.   I know I was in the Norn area for 4 characters and never saw one of the dynamic events start up till I was watching a video.  Yesterday I went searching for the event just so I could see what happens.  So the dynamic events are there. 

My suggestion is to not pick the game apart but just run out and explore.  There are all types of just interesting things to stumble upon.  Use the hearts as a guide to a new area then run around and see what else is in the area.  If you see a cave, go in that cave.  Sometimes there are little gems and nuggets that don't have a marker.  If you can go underwater, dive in there.  There are skill points and quest markers most players don't even know about because people jus ttend to avoid the water.  Anyway, my 2 cents.

I really don't think it will hold people PVE wise. I think it will end up being a side game that people play when they have some free time or want something different after they have completed the majority of the events a few times on some alts. I just didn't see something that different in the dynamic events. I don't see what would keep people playing the events over and over when there isn't a treadmill of rewards. Sure the events were fun the first time, but I don't think they are so fun that I would want to keep doing them too many times. Also, even though it was kind of neat to see people working together, the soft grouping really kills some of the social aspects of the game. Since you don't really have to group in the traditional sense, people don't really communicate......though this might be a plus for those who like to solo everything and not have to directly interact with the people around them. The one meta event I experienced also was a bit of a let down as it was more of a spam fest zerg as opposed to a coordinated effort. I think the PVP people will love the game though.......  Anyway, this is just my opinion for what it is worth.

I think it unfair to just dismiss the smaller beginner dynamic events.  Those events were zerg fest at first but as the population spread out, they became more challenging. 

You also have the larger and more complex events such as the dragon at the Pax and you will have dungeons with 4 different modes.   Others have said there will be at least 10 dungeons at launch.  If that is true, GW2 will launch with more PVE content that most MMOs launch with.

But honestly, no game has PVE content to support players.  Even WOW has players that wander to try other MMO's while they wait for the next update.  I think we are long past the days where one game is going to engross us year round....hence f2p movement.

I played 3 characters but only got to level 3.  I never got a chance to get into pvp.  Can't log in now so....

After my first play session I was about to comment on how smoothe the beta has been given so many players.  I logged into devlores twitch stream and saw the horrible lag he  was getting.  Then came here and saw the lag threads.  I've been kinda lucky, I guess.  I was about to play for a couple hours and never hit any bad lag.  of  course, I was always playing on the overflow server so that probably had something to do with it.

But nice game overall...problems will get fixed by the time the game comes out.

Well, the last test people complained the game was too easy...so this one is harder.  Devs said that a few weeks ago.  I enjoy the difficulty but I haven't gotten that far.

As I said. I would expect more from Anet after they worked on the game so long. Beta tested it for almost 6 months allready.

And finally asked people to give them money to enter the beta.

They should at least have working login server, for crying out loud.

Complaining that a software program has bugs when you sign up to be a person that reports bugs is odd.

I think lifetimes are good for niche games...it allows them to recoup the development costs faster. 

Funcom has 2 F2Pish games out right now so you know this one will go F2P as soon as they get out the red.  I'm not confident that Funcom will do right by players(the lfietimers) if(read when) this game goes F2P. 

I purchased a lifetime to DCUO because I knew it would go F2P and I was likely to get all kinds of perks out of it.  It turns out that was a wise choice because I play it a lot and now I get a $5 stipend so I am ahead.  I think buying a lifetime is a wise investment if you know what you are buying.  With TSW, I have no idea what this game is about.  It kind of scares me how little I've seen.  I don't actively search out for information but I hardly see anyone talking about it.  Recently, I've seen more Vanguard news than TSW.  That scares me off the game.  But good luck to them.  I'll try it one day.  Ramble off.

I always hear that UK games are cheaper if you buy them in stores vs digital.  So maybe digital isn't as big there.  They do have bandwidth caps so digital isn't as viable an option as in the US

The Republic and Empire do have a treaty.  Its not a spoiler to say they just don't make planetary attacks on major planet directly.  Its elaborated more in the game.  Treaty is just a farce to allow both sides to build up power, I think.  I haven't finished the story.  I keep getting bored around level 20 of my character story and make a new alt.

I agree.  PvP sucks.  No one open world PvP's.  And if you do, prepare to be yelled at.  BY YOUR OWN FACTION!   Its insane.  That means everyone warzones and the level 50's just roll everyone.  You just can't win against them.  6 people beating on an Inquisitor and he just casually walks into the goal for huttball.  And if its a pre-made 50 team.  Just find a corner to hide in and just go afk.  Cause you aint winning. 

Please note that I did not mention the overpowered Inquisitor class, the way underpowered Jedi Juggernaut class, the wonky resolve system, the chain stuns that the resolve system was suppose to solve, the 1-2 second lag, and other nit picky things....most problems could be resolved by adding tiers but I have a feeling the servers don't hold enough players to support tiers.

I have just given up.  During one of these lvl 50 face rolls, I logged into swtor and canceled my account.  I'll be back when they fix the pvp.  I could care less aboout the story after 4 months of playing beta.  I can watch that on youtube.  And the flashpoints and operations(which are broken also) are all tank-and-spank which I can get in a f2p game. 

Once you accept TOR for what it is, it is a good game.  It is MMOlite.  It does feel like a single player RPG.  The stories are great fun to experience.  But are they worth $15 a month for a whole year?  This is Bio-wares first MMO.   They made some first MMO mistakes that they can recover from.  But will the TOR fans be patient and wait for those updates.  Probably not given at how impatient gamers have become these days.

 

I don't think I will play next month but that is due to my playstyle.  I would like to get in most of the story for the Jedi, Warrior and Inq and then I'm done I think.  I may do the agent.  I liked the story up until I got my ship in beta.  We shall see.
