Star Wars: The Old Republic: Retail Sales Plummet in the UK
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/03/12 10:36:49 AM
I always hear that UK games are cheaper if you buy them in stores vs digital. So maybe digital isn't as big there. They do have bandwidth caps so digital isn't as viable an option as in the US |

Is SWTOR yet another example of companies realizing it's time to stop GANKING!!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 1/02/12 10:12:28 AM
Originally posted by nerovipus32 The Republic and Empire do have a treaty. Its not a spoiler to say they just don't make planetary attacks on major planet directly. Its elaborated more in the game. Treaty is just a farce to allow both sides to build up power, I think. I haven't finished the story. I keep getting bored around level 20 of my character story and make a new alt. |

This is how pvp works in swtor - it sucks
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/31/11 10:31:33 AM
I agree. PvP sucks. No one open world PvP's. And if you do, prepare to be yelled at. BY YOUR OWN FACTION! Its insane. That means everyone warzones and the level 50's just roll everyone. You just can't win against them. 6 people beating on an Inquisitor and he just casually walks into the goal for huttball. And if its a pre-made 50 team. Just find a corner to hide in and just go afk. Cause you aint winning. Please note that I did not mention the overpowered Inquisitor class, the way underpowered Jedi Juggernaut class, the wonky resolve system, the chain stuns that the resolve system was suppose to solve, the 1-2 second lag, and other nit picky things....most problems could be resolved by adding tiers but I have a feeling the servers don't hold enough players to support tiers. I have just given up. During one of these lvl 50 face rolls, I logged into swtor and canceled my account. I'll be back when they fix the pvp. I could care less aboout the story after 4 months of playing beta. I can watch that on youtube. And the flashpoints and operations(which are broken also) are all tank-and-spank which I can get in a f2p game. |

Is the game really THAT bad?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/28/11 10:18:34 AM
Once you accept TOR for what it is, it is a good game. It is MMOlite. It does feel like a single player RPG. The stories are great fun to experience. But are they worth $15 a month for a whole year? This is Bio-wares first MMO. They made some first MMO mistakes that they can recover from. But will the TOR fans be patient and wait for those updates. Probably not given at how impatient gamers have become these days.
I don't think I will play next month but that is due to my playstyle. I would like to get in most of the story for the Jedi, Warrior and Inq and then I'm done I think. I may do the agent. I liked the story up until I got my ship in beta. We shall see. |

Is it me or does ToR have way too many abilities?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/05/11 6:54:32 AM
Originally posted by GMan3 It really depends on what AC you play. The SI sorc doesn't need to use many abilities outside a small rotation. Those heals make like so much easier. The SI assasin can use a wider range of abilties. And they are a mix of ranged and melee which gives a very chaotic combat feeling. And the Assasin needs a wider range of abilties to be as effective as the SI sorc because of the lack of healing. For my assasin, I removed abilties from my bar to make a 6 button rotation. Went with a madness/tank spec and was good. I'll stay away from Shadow and Assasin in the future. Just not my thing. |

F2P the new fad or a certain death for MMO's
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/16/11 6:54:27 AM
The biggest benefit for adding a freemium model is that it provides extra players for the paying subscribers. That is content that developers cannot create. MMO's feel a lot better with hundreds of people running around versus logging in and only seeing 10 strangers here and there. I personally like there is an option for me to play a game for no cost. I play MMO's that are sorta freeish and haven't inveested a dime in the cash shop. If I ever get serious about playing for a month, then I drop $15 for that month. I'm hoping more games adopt this model in the future. Well, actually I just hope Everquest adds a free tier. The rest I could care less about.

So what's the poing of your post? The game is so bad that hundreds of thousands of people are logged in playing? |

DC Universe Online: So DC Universe is F2P

So you have to have 2 communities large enough to cover 2 design teams OR you clone the same game on 2 different systems.
Assuming SOE and SCEA are 100% lying about their being legal hurdles to put the same game on one system, you don't want to mix those two communities. They fight with each other even with the servers segragated. |

Originally posted by someforumguy Smedley tweeted that they did misjudge the number of people interested. Concurrent players is up 900%. Yes there is lag. They are working on the lag and the queue priority system. The priority system is off at the moment which is why you are 2K. The point of the queue is to keep the chat server from dying when a massive amount of people log in. I gave up on the weekend. The lag is so bad, systems are breaking all over the place. I look forward to hopping in next week. |

Connection issues and server population counts
General Discussion « DC Universe 11/03/11 7:06:02 PM
I donno...they could be bouncing the server. The server is down now. This happened when they PS3 servers merged. It took them a couple days but the queues went away as they ironed out the issues. While I couldn't get on the PC server, I was able to get on the PS3 and they have a higher population. So should be good in a day or so. |

If i make a Guild as Legendary and went free 2 play later...
General Discussion « DC Universe 11/03/11 6:59:15 PM
You keep your guild. I'm not sure if you can invite anyone to the guild though. You have to check the spreadsheet. They go into detail on this topic in the DCUO video chat. Check the SOE you tube channel. It might also be in the FAQ. |

For those who have not played DCUO until the Freemium launch, what is your impression?
General Discussion « DC Universe 11/03/11 6:47:07 AM
It is light on content. There is more there now with a new raid and new DLC coming this year. They added Light and now lightning is coming. They will add a 3rd tanking power I guess around March. Next set of raids is the Amazon Island...I can't think of the name right now. Now its free, so you can hop in and just have fun for a bit here and there. The initial character creator is light but just go around collecting styles and fiddle with the wardrobe. You can get a lot of variety for your character. I feel that DCUO is not as varried as Champions but your character can look more imposing than a Champions. I donno. I like it. You don't get DLC free, btw unless you sub. But everything else is free. |

DC Universe Online: Five Reasons to Look Forward to Update 5
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/11 6:42:48 AM
They haven't set a date...but one of the CS agents told someone that their 45 day free pass would take them past th F2P launch date. The last day you could activate the 45 days was september 1st(I think). So 12th sounds close. I think it really depends on how much this patch breaks the PS3. |

Rift classes are borrowed from EQ Lineage and their Warden class had AOE HOT heals. If WOW has it, I'm sure Bioware stuck it in TOR somewhere.(I'm not a WOW player so I donno) |

DC Universe Online: The Free to Play Interview
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/21/11 12:46:54 PM
The bar is set by the PS3. The PS3 cannot handle sliders so PC can't have sliders. There are model limitation because the PS3 can't handle complex models so PC can't have complex models. This is not saying the PS3 is not powerful but you're not just rendering a few characters at a time. You have to account for multiple characters on the screen at once. I saw a 200 person PVP battle on the PS3 once...that would never happen with the cryptic engine even on a PC. |

DC Universe Online: Headed for Free to Play
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/19/11 7:08:18 PM
Originally posted by starwarsnut Its a perception/reality thing. The internet sees SOE as a failure because the internet does not understand how the gaming industry works. We take one franchise and compare it to another franshise and since A is larger than B then B must be a failure. The reality is SOE is above average as a publisher. They have the largest portfolio of MMO's currently running. They have some of the best server platforms and tech out there. They have some of the most varied MMO's and not just wow clones. They also have the most MMO's being developed. In addition to MMO's, they have 2 online PS3 games in development. If the name SOE wasn't attached to the company, we would consider them a good company. DCUO going F2P does not mean that the game was dying. The PS3 servers are packed with multiple instances of the core cities. The PC servers are okay...on a busy evening you can get a group in less than 5 minutes for an instance. So I take this news as nothing but the flow of the industry today. And this is the right model for DCUO in its current state. |

I saw a great tweet yesterday... "The Old Republic is the Drizzt of Star Wars"
I didn't have time to read the whole thread...but a question... Isn't the lore of this time that there are a lot of Jedi and SIth but they are not very skilled cmpared to the Force users in the movies? Even the Masters are not strong in the force. I assumed this is why a Trooper vs Jedi is an even battle. |

The real reason VG hasn't "taken off"
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 9/08/11 8:44:03 AM
Originally posted by Krandalarian The game was still under Sigil when it launched. No one bought the game(See my earlier post). SIgil owed lots of money and couldn't hold the IP with their weak sales. SOE paid off the debt and fixed many of the bugs. They put a lot of work into a game that never sold. If you played VG at launch and today and still say the game hasn't changed, then you are just trolling. |

The real reason VG hasn't "taken off"
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 9/08/11 6:53:34 AM
Originally posted by page 3) When SOE advertised that game like crazy, no one bought it. 4) A. That game was free for like 3 months and no one played. B. SOE gave the game client to any subscriber of any SOE game and no one played. C. SOE let any SOE game subscriber play for free for 6 months and no one played. For whatever reason, no one enjoys playing that game. I tried it 5 different times. Never lasted beyond an hour. It reminded me so much of EQ that I kept going back to that after playing VG. |
