Aion: Curse Founder's Open Letter to NCsoft
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/23/09 8:02:16 AM
The biggest problem for Aion is not that its core game is bad it is nt but the release has been a bit of a mess . Then again this happens with most mmos . What Ncsoft failed to do was recognise the negative responce to the ques which led to people feeling like they d paid for something they wer nt getting . Lots of people left in the first two weeks and went back to thier previous mmo ( unfortunatly WoW for most players ) . I know of whole guilds from that game which were going to move to Aion which are staying put now . If they offer a welcome back month to the players that subbed in the first month when they sort out some of the issues that are dogging the game at present as compensation to those feeling ripped off they could end up with a very successful mmo . Sadly they wont and instead of 1-2 million subs in the west a month they ll end up with 300k and they ll only have them selves to blame because short to term greed will win out over long term profit . |

There were threads like this with WoW five years ago . Massive quitting due to bugs bots ques etc etc etc . We all know how that turned out . People i know that are quitting Aion arnt quitting it for good but they are fed up with the ques and Ncsofts lack of action in compensating them for a months play they ve paid for which they dont feel they ve been able to use . Lots of people are planning on returning if and when Ncsoft sort this mess out . They have a very small window which could make all the difference between another 300-500k game or one thats second only to WoW . Can they do it ? Well maybe but thier past record is nt very good . Time is running out for Aion and this is from someone who thinks it could be one of the best most successful mmos around . If it fails it wont be down to Aions quality but Ncsofts incompetance . |

I think the biggest problem was people did nt give up because of the content they just gave up out of frustration . Like i say its not just one or two people haveing a hissy fit because playing one or two days and giving it up because its not wow or lord of the rings online or whatever was floating thier boat before hand its a huge number of people . It ll most likly be born out in the numbers of people they retain after the first month . I personally am giving up not because i dont like the game or i m angry about the ques but because i m away from home a lot in november and december and wont have a lot of time for mmos between now and christmas . I will be looking again in the new year for a new regular mmo but i think i ll ask around a bit to see what the situation is like in Aion before i return . If its not looking good i m going for Eve . |

Blizzard just kept out giving free game time till it was sorted at the start . Maybe your right though whats needed is a welcome back month to make up for what people feel they lost in thier first month when the problem is sorted out . Otherwise what could have been a game of 1-2 million players or more will end up with 300 thousand .(in the west) |

While i think Aion is a great game and i dont expect any mmo to have a smooth first month what for many people was the deal breaker was the waiting to get into the game . I cant count how many people have gone back to thier previous mmo feeling ripped off because of the ques . If Ncsoft had had any sence they would have realised in the long run they would have made more money if they had offered extra free game time because by thier own admitance they were overwealmed by the numbers of players they had . In its first months Blizzard did this with Warcraft (i m no great fan) and they kept people playing . Ncsoft really dropped the ball on this one and they could attract back some of the people that have left but its going to be a hard job to convince them now because its left a nasty taste in thier mouth . As for the problems with botting and cheating those are problems that can be fixed where as a bad reputation is a lot harder to put right and unfortunatly thats what Ncsoft is starting to get . I really hope they sort it because this is the best game i ve seen since WoW vanilla in the pvp fantasy genre the only reason it will fail will be due to bad management . |

Lord Of The Rings Online: What Went Wrong?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/21/09 7:33:41 AM
While i would agree pvp is nt the most important part of an mmo i do feel lord of the rings could offer a few more pvp options . I m a life time subscriber and i enjoy playing it at weekends sometimes . I would nt say theres a lot wrong with the pve side of the game . My server is very busy and the community is friendly which is something i cant say of other mmos . Other than widening the pvp the only thing i would like to see changed is the character animations which are a bit stiff . If anything i would say lord of the rings online is the only real traditional fantasy rpg in the mmo world in that it follows a coherant storyline most of the others are simply virtual worlds with rpg elements put in as a side thought . |

wow does offer a good entry level mmo experiance and for many its thier first mmo . it does nt take itself too seriously so the lore is pretty accessable to younger players . which is what makes up most of its player base and unfortunatly is what makes it a virtual schoolyeard at times . Blizzard also have made it easier to appeal to the more casual player . for instance you can now choose to do battlegrounds for xp and almost totally ignore the pve experiance if you wish . its quite easy to level up 2-3 levels in a day now between 20-60 going down this route . it can be fun but the game does nt offer enough challenge for me to play it regulary anymore . its also certainly not as popular now as it once was with a rumoured drop of 2 -3 million in the west . this is born out by the increase in low - mid servers now and the fact that blizzard hav nt released any subscriber numbers in nearly a year . |

Has anyone seen a bad review of Aion ? All the ones i ve read seam to give glowing reports .
General Discussion « Aion 10/15/09 12:41:59 PM
in responce to dibdabs ...i doubt that . i ve tried most free to play games . the better ones like perfect world and runes of magic play as smoothly as Aion or WoW . the bad f2p ones dont compare at all . |

What amazes me is people buy these games at release and expect them to be perfect when games that have been out for years still arnt . We still get rubberbanding in lord of the rings online . The actual game itself is what every reviewer has said it is , namely the best game to be released since WoW . I m reserving judgement on how many people will leave . I know a lot that arnt leaving but taking a month or two off untill the ques are sorted out .
Go fire up the other NCSoft games like Lineage 1 and 2. Then come back here.
Silly arguement . Why did nt you add City of Heroes to that list ? because you know as well as i do that that games pretty smooth and also run by Ncsoft . As for lineage 1 and 2 prove to us you ve played them let us know your characters name (s) and servers . I bet you did the same thing you ve done in Aion tried them a couple of times and decided it is nt for you . Thats fair enough but your title to this thread shows how much of a troll you are . If Ncsoft dont sort out the bot problem in a few months time i ll be here complaining with you ( as i have been complaining about the ques and suggesting there should be some sort of compensation ) . The fact your doing it now so soon after a game has been released under a thread entitled " this game is done for " makes you look like a troll (which you may not be) coming into these forums and having a hissey fit because everything was nt perfect from day one . It never is in these games . Everyone with any sence knows that . |

I never said the game itself is bad. That is why it's so sad. I love the game for what it can be. The gameplay is fun. The grind isn't that bad as some people are saying. The crafting is pretty okay. It's that the botting and spam is so totally out of control. And seeing NCSoft's history with their Lineage games. I have no hope anymore that it will be any different with Aion. This game is so Kinah dependend. It's so full of money sinks. It's botting and cheating paradise. Just wait and see. The only thing NCWest will do, when loads of people are not going to resub end this month, is going into even more panic mode (then they already are.... see the mass banning topics) and just put GameGuard back in. Think they solved it. And that's it. And then all that is left. Are the people who cheat and bot themselves. The spammers and farm bots. And a handful of people with a very very thick skin and able to be put up with it. Cheers

Yeah i too remember there being bots in WoW . It got quite bad at one point they would take over entire areas a bit like a virtual maffia . Every problem i m seeing in Aion i saw in WoW in its opening months . Including the ques . The only thing i would say Blizzard did better was it recognised the problem of ques and did give out free time which Ncsoft arnt doing . I do agree the OP is entitled to his own opinions but the title of this thread really does make him a troll . As for Xfire its widly known by anyone with any sence its a vastly inaccurate tool for measuring a games popularity . If you have any doubts about Aion and are reading this thread i would say check out the official online reviews all of which say its the best mmo release since WoW and most of which give it reviews of over 90 percent . I would suggest leaving buying it for a couple of months when the new servers have been added . The opening month or two of an mmo are never without problems . |

Lord of the rings does landscape graphics exceptionally well . Where it falls down really are the character animations which are a bit stiff compared to some other mmos . |

Who has the worst name in mmos and should nt be given another chance ?

I have symapthy for those that attach their name to an mmo . Its a riskey buisness but for my money its Richard Garriott for the Tabula Rasa mess . My perception is he let personal ambition overtake his roll in the success or faliure of Tabuala Rasa . or maybe Gaute Godager who compared Age of Conan as steak to Warcrafts burger yet unless than two years later he has left blaming others for the way the game has gone while he was the man in charge . |

i would nt describe wow as a faliure in terms of subs but its game play is nowhere near as much fun as it once was . |

Why isn't "Lord of the Rings Online" more popular?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/11/09 7:16:12 PM
From what i gather the end game content is pretty much pvping around the etten moors at the moment , raiding and playing the chapters that are released in each patch .I think theres ment to be a new pvp area and a randomised skirmish system in the coming digital expansion . I ve not got there yet but i m having a good time dipping in and out of middle earth . Its a perfect 2 nd mmo to play on the side of whatever your main one is and well worth the life time sub when they offer it at half price as they sometimes do . |

How old is the youngest WoW player you've ever seen?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 10/11/09 5:11:07 PM
I used to play in a guild run by a family and thier friends they knew from real life on deathwing . Thier son aged 5 started playing but he used to get so upset with being ganked they all restarted or migrated to aerie peak which is a pve server . |
