I think that 2-3 months post launch it will be painfully obvious to Square Enix how P2P is not a good model in the western markets anymore. That is where you see significant sub dropoff at the end of there 2nd month, and then due to low influx of new players you are left in a tough position.

Decent game, but not strong enough to thrive as a P2P title in F2P market.

Just my opinion, it will be interesting to see how this goes.

Couldn't have said it better. If people are able to max level before the 30 days of free play, this game is doomed. Going to be interesting to see a AAA title try subscription again. I am sure they already have the future plan laid out to go F2P when subs get low and box sales dry up.

You also have to remember that One Character can Level all the jobs, no need to re-roll multiple characters, if  you wish not to. So reaching max level with one class/job is only the beginning. I have to say too, that from all the forums/post I have been reading, and not just on this site.  Almost every person planning on playing the game, prefers the P2P model over the other two.

One other note, Final Fantasy 11 was released eleven years ago, and is still a sub game.

Personally, I do not want a dungeon finder tool in the game. I am actually really really excited right now, that this may be the game that finally has some type of decent server community.

If someone is trolling your group, it's very easy to blacklist them from your party, put them on ignore, and inform your server about it, so they don't get into anymore groups. It definitely makes people think about their actions on their server, knowing if they screw around too much, they know the entire server will eventually blacklist them.

Granted, I do not like spending hours on end looking for a group for a dungeon, but I do prefer looking for a group, as opposed to the dungeon finder.

Technically you are looking for a group with dungeon finder, minus the all day saturday shouting for a group

Incorrect, technically, I am queued into a lobby, silently awaiting for a queue to pop, so I can instantly get ported to a dungeon, rather than having to actually talk to my server community, to see who wants to group up, then we get to make our way over to the dungeon on foot, fighting things along the way, and thus giving the world it's feel back.

Like I said, I prefer looking for a group, rather than queuing. Quyeing, to me, ruins the immersion of the game. I miss the days of trying to find a party to go do something, then going in as a group. The whole dungeon finder thing just makes people really anti-social for some reason.

Weii I wish you luck, I think you will find few who do it that way anymore.

I feel the same way Ehllfhire, Dev's/Studios work so hard on making such a beautiful game world to explore, only to be trumped by a DF.  Not to mention DF's can promote the insta-gratification attitude. witch honestly after playing many mmos, and reflecting back on FF11(My first MMO). I miss earning my loot, it just felt much more rewarding.

Dont get me wrong I like to use a DF  IF Im short on time and JUST feel like doing a few dungeons or something along those lines. Plus as a family man, sometimes I dont have time to go on the grand adventures {grins}.

it only takes one to change the world so to speak :) .

Yoshi is committed to releasing a subscription FF14:ARR and I respect the decision, I just wonder if that market segment has come and gone?

Nope I'm still here.

Me too!

For the most part, one of the biggest turn offs for me is the MMOs/games community. And you can really tell the difference between the 3 models P2P,B2P, and F2P. The last 2 have a tendency to be lest forgiving to new players.

I'm looking forward to returning to the FFXIV community, the only one that has compaired since my FF11 experience was LotRo. Cant wait til August

I was going to say, this is like the 4th thread. Lol

FPS(CoD, Halo,ModW,Borderlands) Cross hairs, Left click=fire, Right Click=Aim,R=reload, G= throw grenade,SpaceBar=Jump.

Wish more people would get it too. All the Revolutionairy mechanics are pretty much thought up at the moment. The only thing left is VR rooms or fully free of hands, voice activated stuff.  And FF XIV is a FF game so it is going to be geared toward that crowd, nothing wrong with that.  And Honestly the MMOs has devs freaked. just look at the reactions to some of the last mmos that have come out in the last 2-3 years.

You obviously have not played Bohemia or Frictional games.

And think of tab-targeting vs action combat like this: it's like comparing the mechanism of classic Dooms style shooters vs Modern shooters, I believe Modern shooters have far more potential for deeper gameplay than classic Doom style shooters. Just like  I believe action combat have far more potential for deeper gameplay than traditional tab targeting combat.

I dont think anything really of Tab vs Action. I enjoy both styles personally, it just depends on what Im in the mood for :^).

I guess a better way to have said it :Whats Dull to one , is potentially exciting to another.

Its MMO combat. I really dont understand what people want from MMO's anymore. You tab target, click/press on the shorcuts, stuff happens ... MMO. Developers have tried different things and have failed miserably yet you want the next one to revolutionize combat again. WTF? Has anyone ever whined about CoD being just another point and click shooter? God of War for being just another "tap the attack button 100 times" game? Uncharted for being another "climber." No! Almost everyone is happy just to get another iteration of the same damned thing with a new story and different maps to do the same damned thing on. Not MMO's though, those need to change the face of gaming for every new release or ... well its doesnt really matter because even the new, 'fresh' ones always fail anyway.

I think its time all the WoW converts go back to consoles. Whatever "MMO-magic" attracted them to Warcraft in the first place is only ever accepted in WoW and is going to die with WoW.

I was going to say, this is like the 4th thread. Lol

Dont let features like this ruin the base game that you enjoy, if its not of your taste dont use it. I honestly did not like LFG finders and felt similar, my view is that it was taking away from the exploration. But Only I can do that to my self

At the same time, when I was first getting into MMOs I had time (single) to wait around if need be for 1+ hours for a group. Now that Im a family man, the LFG finders are a nice added feature for me if i get tired of questing/leveling and wan the challenge of a dungeon with out having to wait a long period of time.

I tried it once months ago, and i didn't like the game at all...

Then i saw this topic, that surely got my curiosity. I re-downloaded the game and played this weekend, and... I preordered this morning. It's awesome, graphics are really good and pleasurable, character creation is good (spent a good chunk of time on that with my GF - she fell in love with the game aswell :D ), combat system is not revolutionary but indeed well done.

GJ Square, i didn't have this... Fun and pleasure in an MMO since a long time

LOL! I'm having to order 2 copies now, one for me,and one for my wife  :^) /cheers!

And for the most part all the revolutions of the industry are out there. Now its what they do with them or on how they apply them that will make the games :)

Another issue I'm having lately is the result of choosing Archer.  Seems to be a common theme amongst newer MMO's, where archers don't really feel like archers, but rather casters.

That applies pretty well in this case.  No arrows.  Weird sounds.  More like I'm casting spells with a bow than engaging in physical combat.

OMG yes!  I love archers in fantasy settings, but like you said lately they dont have that T'Wang! :) . Im all for a bit of magic to enhance an archers abilities (Ala EarthDawn,P&P). Plus when Im playing an archer, I like to see my bow and Quiver ON my character as well.

I for one am happy with the game and it's combat style.  I'm sick of the new mmo's being all "We have true action skill based combat!!"  Then all the game has is people spamming all their attacks as fast as they can while bunny hopping non stop and or rolling all over the ground.

This slow paced combat is what does it for me.  You guys can go play nightcrawlers in Tera or GW2 lol

Ya I do have to say the action combat , was kinda lame sometimes, when it came to you being a range class and the mob being melee. you could do it but what was the point by the time you stuck them froze them or what not you could have hit one of your other 3 strong attack abilites while standing toe to toe, and then just kill the mob..:P

There is absolutely no way this game will come close to one million active subs a year out; very few games do. I'll be extremely surprised if it breaks 500k as P2P. I'll be less surprised if it breaks 350k, but I have doubts. Nobody really knows how much money they have funneled into this project, so maybe ~350k subs would be financially successful. My one year prediction is that the game will offer F2P by then.

FF14 as everyone said will not go F2P, its just not going to happen. FF11 did not, and they got down to about  60-150k something close to that. Just that simple {in a non rude tone} :) /bow

Wow, that is truly ridiculous. Guys like that have to have no life outside of the game they play.

I swear the gaming atmosphere didn't seem anywhere near that elitist back when I first starting getting into mmorpgs. When and why did that change to such an extreme? A rhetorical question, but one that I still ponder.

I really hate to say it. But back when Muds/Ultima Online and Everquest were coming out. Most of the players were adults. Adults were the only ones, for the most part back then who could afford home PCs to play the online games. And a lot of them came from a Pencil&Paper backgrounds, you know where everyone got together to have Fun&Adventures. And just to clarify I do not have issues playing with the younger crowd :) .

My answer is...Circus afro and a pokadot.

AHahaha,LOL!! :^)

Rinse and Repeat

Everyone has their Perception as to what GOOD combat is to them. Some like Action, Some like Action w/some tabbing, some like Tab-targeting, some like turned based, etc etc. These mechanics do NOT make a game bad. is the Frame or foundation that does. The fun/enjoyable factor that appeals to that person will go for that type of game. I did not like teras combat, but some do, is tera's combat  bad? just because I did not like it?

Honestly I would rather have a really good community of 250,000 subs, then an EH community of 2mill+. at leasts thats the sort of trend i have been seeing lately, but we all precieve things different. I think FF11 had around 400k'ish when I was playing 6 years ago.

but really Subs dont always = Quality...and again every game is not for everyone. plus FF14 is some what of a niche game, witch honestly I like that.

Some cosmetics would be nice.... But more character customization would be nice though its not happening. Walking around town and such I already see characters that have almost the same identical look as me!!! Some of the face features and choices are so ugly i bet no one would really choose to make their character look like that. Like theres old man wrinkly face for elvens. Who would pick that!!!? and they already dont have many choices. For some reason I feel FF is less of a trolling game where people pick ugly features and always go for the best looking and chances are we all now look the same.

I would say people that are a little more into the RPG aspect and would enjoy making an Elder Mage/Warrior character. Plus we do have people/gamers that are of all ages and like to customize their character similar to them. :)

Not to get off subject , but I would hate to start a thread for a simple question. What is a Legacy Server/character? /bow

Those who subbed for a certain amount of time during 1.0 are legacy members. Their characters from the original release can be transferred ONLY to legacy servers for use in ARR.

Legacy is actually a confusing term.  There was a legacy promotion as Striderbob mentioned, however the legacy servers apply to EVERY character created in 1.0.  They can only be transfered to "legacy" servers, the rest will be fresh start servers.  New players can start a character wherever they want.

Ah, Ok :) . Thank you for clearing that up. Someone had invited me to a Legacy server to join their LS. Now I understand better. Much appreciated /bow. Cant Wait for Open beta :)

I am not new to MMOs, but my wife is. She fell in love with Final Fantasy 11, and only played casually. At the time we could not play at the same time :P. But this time around we got the PCs to do so.

So I was looking for a LS we could both join&enjoy :) ,that was friendly and outgoing toward newbies so to speak :) Send me a PM or post Thank you /bow

Ok, so I'm tired of the traditional theme park style of mmorpg. Why should I be excited for FFR?

What is essential is Invisible to the eye. Only with the heart can one see rightly.

I mean I get it.. That's what it is though huh? It just feels right?

Ya I was going to iterate on it but my mouse bounced around and I hit post , and my silly wi fi closed connection. Anyhow, FF14 is going to be a game because you like the FF series, FF11, or the style of combat, and the athsthetics of the world.

Me personally. I had my best MMO experiences/memories in FF11 of any other MMO I have played in the last 10 years. Plus it was my very first MMO, so so nastolgia. So that draws me to FF14 as well.

I actually like the STYLE of combat they got going a mix of FF series turn based, with some tab targeting, some flare of the visuals and so on and so forth. probally not the best explination of the combat. but its my perception. I watched some of the latest videos and went "OHhh thats bad ass!".   So ya the just feels right is a good one too :). In the end its how the game makes YOU feel.

In breaking news people like feedback on things they are good at and dislike feedback on things they are bad at.

I like dps/hps meters feedback I've used them to improve my rotation consistency or timings in the past. While people spamming them or THAT guy who keeps asking for the meters even though he very well knows he's on top because he has them installed annoy me the overall good they provide ME is worth it.

I've ran a Guild and been a raid leader and I don't know how Guilds with no information make adjustments to get a task done when their is no information on who isn't performing their task. It all comes down to HOW the feedback is given.

You do make valide points. But I think the biggest concern is that in general, dps meter trends in games have been more negitive than positive. The example you give is a GOOD one, but unfortunetly , very few and far between.

I liked using my dps meter in WoW, but for MY personal use, to see how I was performing, just to give ME and idea. The other thing we have to look at is the casual/gamer who is not one who trys to Stat crunch but enjoys playing the game, witch is what playing a game is for too.

So say at the end of  Dungeon Run with no wipes ,I look at my Dps meter.  and party member 1 did 28%, Im did 24% and dps'er #3 did 12%...BUT threw the whole run did not slack off once or miss rotation, or what ever else you want to trhow in there. should that player be ashamed of their dps, booted, criticized about it?
