Jumping and swimming should not be there for fun, FFXI is a serious game and thats why you can't jump or swim. FFXI is a hard game and thats why all those wow kiddo types come and whines "this is to hard", "grinding is so last year" ... This is another Final Fantasy game, how many FF games can you jump and/or swim in?

Well it could be that SE would make it so that the character could jump every time it had to, that is seen before ex. FFX-2.

I think a lot of how you could develop an action mmorpg and when I someday have been educated and get to work for a company it's probably to late, there's not many possibilities to make Original games anymore.

It may be a more in depth or as you say serious game than most, does not mean people playing FF dont want to have fun as well, hell thats what playing a game is all about. Im serious about playing to an extent but if im not having fun than F that :) (in a nice way). not saying that jumping or swimming being or not being in game will ruin my fun of FF14 when it comes out, its more about the content, game play, combat system, community, emerssion, and fun factor (and my fun factor has nothing to do with how hard a game is, the more challenging imo the more fun, who wants to be at max level in 2-3weeks,not me) than 2 small mechanics of a  game.

Jumping eh if they do they do,if they dont they dont it really never bothered me in FF11 (my first mmo as well). Swimming though like some said to a decolite island with some pals or some sort of under water missions would be interesting and cool to boot, to me swimming underwater and such adds a bit more emersion to the game.  I hope they do a fun job on the fishing as the did in FF11. It was much better then the staggnet Cast/wait for bit/right-click reel in, actually struggling with the fish was fun and made fishing imo worth spending some time doing aspecially if you grabbed a couple of buddies :)

Very interesting. Seems like Square-Enix might have some innovative tricks up their sleeves. Maybe they are really trying hard to find a solution to close the population separation from levels and implement an entirely new system that compliments casuals and hardcore gamers, and even finding a way where they can co-exist in actually playing together.

I really hope they pull it off, as if they do it will truely be the next gen mmo imo, with no Exp >.0. cant wait!!

I don't care as long as they open up class combinations  to be more flexible.  I always felt it was ridiculous that Sum/Blkm or vice versa was rejected by groups.  It's the second biggest reason i didn't play long (UI #1)

Well SMN needs fixed IMO because its only use in an xp pt is a ghetto whm so ill give you a pass on this, but BLM/SMN come on now. The only thing a blm would benifit from is the auto refresh, and with that you only get 1 tick. whm or rdm sub gave you alot more options.

I find it impossible to understand these people. If you didnt like your jobs role you obviously didnt like your job.  I am just glad FFXI weeded these people out. I jhope and pray FFXIV weeds these people out too.

I had a buddy Play a  SMN/WHM and he did a bang up job with it in our Xp parties.  If you know your jobs and other at least know what your job can do (I never played or unlocked the SMN) I think just about any thing can work.

One of the Big things IMO we are forgeting to mention that its a game and we are suppose to have fun. One of the reasons I hated WoW was the fact that most players would not invite  you for a Raid or Insty  unless your -said Class-  was a specific Spec.

I can tell you now that I have raided with all specs as my hunter, and did very well with each (also practiced with each spec to make sure I would be effective with each one). Why? becuase My buddies/online friends would figure out how in the raid/insty party my spec would fit,and maybe made a few adjustments. Only IF they REALLY felt they NEEDED me a certain spec, maybe because we did not have a certain class at the time or other various reasons...they would say "hey you mind respecing for this one?" and since it was not a "SPEC this way now or dont come" I had no problem respecing because they never forced it down my throat.

Guess my point being I personally think any combo can work well as long as your other party members are more open minded to odd/new/challenging ways to approche a situation. And im not saying any of you are not open minded,im just making a general statement :)

One of the BEST reasons if not the only reason for keeping a game GROUP oriented,is to lose the asshats in gaming.

If you are a total jerk, everyone will soon know you and you will not get groups and will be forced out of the game, and for most people they would say "good riddance" and have a happier community for it.If everything is solable/casual then you can be a total jerk, spam the chat with retarded spam and you won't care because you don't need anyones help in the game.

I see it actually everyday, players ask for help and some jerk butts in and says things like "only a loser needs help for that quest" or "I can solo it easily, what can't you solo it",basically all sorts of jerk off comments hit the chat. Now imagine that player cannot solo and needs help, lmao good luck on asking for help.

Yep, since SE is already a king in their respective area, there is no need for them to prioritize profits over customer satisfaction. If memory serves me, they had previously stated that "Final Fantasy 11 will continue as long as it has the playerbase to support it." or something along that line, meaning that as long as the game stays in the black by even a single net dollar, it will continue on.  If one needs an example of what solo-oriented play does to a MMO, they need look no farther than World of Warcraft. So yeah...I think I'd prefer SE stay true to their roots with XIV. Group-oriented play not only keeps the game unique and creates a sense of accomplishment for every level, it keeps the community above a certain level of skill, in both the combat and social parts of the game.

Lol come to think of it ,now thats such a true statement. FF11 was my first MMO I rarely meet an AssHat, compared to other mmos i started to play after FF11. Hmm good thing to point out.

Edit: IMO if you ONLY want to solo in an MMO and not interact with other people playing that mmo you mite as well play an offline RPG imo.

Killing a mob by yourself and interacting with people are two different things, why are you considering them to be one? When you get in a group are you conversing with people? 99% of groups made, not a word is spoken the entire time.

MMO means you are in a game world that other people are in.

I am on the internet now and I am posting this by myself on a 'community board' am I not? I am not being forced to talk to people if I want to do something on here even though this is a community.

I am on here by myself but I also like to be in places where others are.

Tushay, That is true and now Im a little more inlightened, thx :).good point

FFXI was my very first mmo, and got excited and squiled like a little school girl when I heard they were making a new FF mmo!

Hate to tell you that they are having pretty high requirements for the game, I already know they are requiring Vista or higher, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 and 2GB RAM to run the game at low settings.

I am kind of glad they are making high requirements to put the game on max. Tells me the game will look great and be a true next-gen MMO which I have yet to see one on the market (and no Aion is not next-gen looking to me, although it is a good game)

It doesn't really cost that much to double/triple those computer specs now to be honest.

I'm good to go atm with 9800gt and 3.2G of ram. The only thing I would have to do is upgrade IF the made it Vista only as im still running XP.

Good points too :), it only cost me $150 to upgrade from a 8500gt to a 9800gt (had the power supply to support the 9800 so did not need to upgrade it) and from 2g ram to 4g (3.0-3.2 recognized by XP). Personally im willing to upgrade to Vista and what ever need be for a really good MMO at this point, I have pretty much lost intrest in most of them that are out now. Hell even if its just an updated FFXI I'm Game.

Ya but at this point Im very skeptical about a game no matter how good it looks, since I got hyped for a game and it turned out to be an ok game with frustrating Scenarios and such.  so we will see. I do have to say one of the reasons I really want to try it out, is because from the game play footage I have seen it looks really reminisant of CoH with updated graphics and some new mechanics added with some more costume parts and power customization.

if they kept it the same as ffxi people wouldn't bother porting over, and new players would hate it because it'd be tedious and annoying to do anything with.

Not so fast Valentina. This goes back to my "SOCOM example" I said to someone on a previous post.

Think of it this way. When SOCOM2 came out, it was basically just an enhanced version of the first SOCOM game. So why port over and play the new game? It was simply an improved version of what you loved originally, right? Well, SOCOM2 sold out majorly, still actually has a handful of people playing, and basically showed that new and improved sequels of games can sell. Besides, FF XIV won't be completely similar. They're introducing a sphere grid idea that probably will copy FF X's idea, and SE said that the game will be supposedly more casual than before (although read the previous posts to see why FF XIV will mostly likely remain hardcore and have stronger group aspects than solo aspects). So, I don't think porting over to a new and (hopefully) improved version of FF XI will be tedious and annoying, there's probably thousands of people already watching to see when FF XIV will come out.

Thats what got my blood pumping. Yes their going have a "Job system" will it be exactly the same as FFXI? who knows. Will there be Sub-jobs? I hope so,as the Job system and the sub-job ability was one of the best things about FFXI, and to this date I still dont see one mmo that has anything like it. From what I have read it will be a whole new game with some of the best aspects of FFXI added in for extra flavor {grins},but who knows we dont have much details, and until we do Im not casting any opinions except that I hope they do a good job on it.

And I think its good their not hyping the krap out of the game, the last time I got my self hyped/pumped for a game(WAR) it was a let down for me, was a good game, but not enough to make me pay a sub anymore.

Edit: IMO if you ONLY want to solo in an MMO and not interact with other people playing that mmo you mite as well play an offline RPG imo.

FFXI's Job system has ruined a lot of other MMOs for me. I refuse to play alts... I hope they keep the system in XIV :)

Yes! The ability to switch classes when you got bored of a class/wanted to try something new/revisit the lower levels and not have to make a whole new character  was one of the best, and imo still is one of the best things FFXI has. and the sub-job ability just added icing to the cake mmm! lol I think most of FFXI alts were more used as mules than a NEW toon. Granted some races were better at certain classes than others so you mite feel the urge to make an alt.....Galka WM anyone {grins}? Not to mention you did not just GET the extra jobs you had to do some quests and earn them, witch IMO was a great amount of fun in and of it self, I aspecially loved the dragoon quests :).

I had a chance to register for beta during PAX 08. and companies would be wise to give their dedicated fans/fanbase some beta keys before some joe shmoe who just wants a beta key cause it looks cool, because the fanbase will in most regards give better feed back with out being to judgemental. imo

I lOVED the Job system in FFXI as well. I really hope they keep the Sub-Job system too. Honestly I would most likely still be playing FFXI if the server pops were as high as they were about 4.5years ago. Cant wait to sink my teeth into FFXIV

Lets just hope they dont put the System Req. to high, other wise it mite leave some of the FFXI players behind...Mite. Good to hear, I cant wait to find out  more about it. FFXI was my very first mmo, and got excited and squiled like a little school girl when I heard they were making a new FF mmo!

Ok Vampry, I am not living in my own little world, I was just stating that I did it, this guy did it, and that guy did it.. HOORAY you can do it to.  Also, the next part is why most people like you have a problem.. calling all the other stuff I pointed out that you can do crap?  It's not my fault you dont know how to enjoy a game, and by your own words, think that grinding is the only thing in the game.  I enjoy many aspects of FF and MMO's.  Not just the leveling.  Be more open minded and you'll be alright.

Now, some of the "crap" as you called it, I added in there because I'm tired of people saying FFXI was completely group based.  I'll agree it was alot, but not completely.  There were options such as BST.  The other stuff I put on there to also point out like I said, that there really is more to an MMO then just grind.  Finaly, I put all that "crap" in there to say to people like you, hey, there is/was always plenty to do and SE did a great job.. even for you soloers.. but if it just isnt for you, then move on and stop flaming.

There is not, and will likely never be a game that can cater to everyone.  Of course SE said they will try to be more casual friendly, I think FFXI was casual freindly if you really wanted it to be.  That casual part just had to fit  you.. if it didnt, then people give dumb responces like you did.

Also, since you brought it up, you said I made an uneducated remark about casual players.. so let me elaborate a little  bit of what I was saying.  It seems to me that a casual player is looking to be able to play 1 or 2 hours a day and after a short time be able to be at end game and do end game stuff.  That is why I said what I said, because if someone hardcore was to play, they would be at end game the day after the game is released.  LOL then you tell me your not flaming me after you say I made an uneducated remark..

Lastly, I'm sorry you did not have the skill to fit into FFXI, move on to an easier game like WoW and continue your poke kill level up method.  I just plain and simply don't like people like you... trying to attack me when I never made one invalid point, and spoke from my more than 4 years of experience in this particular MMO.  I also put my opinion out there... never did I once say.. "OK LISTEN WHAT IM ABOUT TO SAY IS STRICKLY FACTS AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN SAY OTHERWISE"  Nope, I shared my experiences, opinions, and gave valid examples and options.  So if all you can do after that is bash me, then go screw yourself.  Oh, and just a reminder, learn how to enjoy a game.

But then the solo/casual player will still cry around on the forums because he couldnt get to end-game in a day.

It is a never ending cycle and most of it boils down to lazyness and jealousy. Some people need to realize they cant be an elite player due to RL obligations, there is nothing wrong with that. Play it and enjoy it.

its not always layzyness or jealousy, but for some, like people who have kids/family and a full time job dont always have the time to look for/participate or put in the effort it CAN take to get into a party, but at the same still want to be able to enjoy the game. I LOVE to get into partys when I can, but I dont always have the time to; so to ME the solo content is nice to have so that I dont get stuck at low levels while all my friends with out kids or more time to play dont  get way past me or make it take me foreeeeeeeever to catch up and play with them at end game.

The problem is this Zaylin. FF XI was not a game for people who had kids/familes and a full time job (well, mostly the kid/families part, I could see someone who worked from 8am to 5 pm then playing FF XI till about 9-10pm). If you made FF XIV more solable, then you will alienate the original fanbase from FFXI. Thus, the game will have to depend on more people like you to fill those empty ranks. And if that failed, then FF XIV will end up being the next EQ2 example.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the solo/casual player working well with FF XIV if it ends up being based off of FF XI's basic ideals. More solo aspects will kill the group aspect of FF XI.

I beg to differ {in a non rude tone} I played FFXI,lol matter of a fact it was my very first mmo. And at the time I had a full time job wife and kid.Yes I had challanges doing things by my self and leveling,I got into some GRrreAT parties when I had the time.did I complain about FFXI not having enough solo content or being solo freindly ?Nope. I enjoyed the challanges that FFXI had. By all means I would not want it toned down to fit my schedule. But I do agree to make a game so solo friendly that you can get all the uber gear and would never have to group WOULD be lame. Yall who got more time to put in DO deserve to have some better gear, and thats just simple. ya I deserver better gear too, but it will take me longer than the person with more time to put in. hope that clears up some of my statement that was not fleshed out. :) good discusion :)

Ah, ok, now I get what you were going at with that discussion.

P.S. You got to play a hardcore group game when you have a full time job and a family? Awesome, I hope to teach my children when I get married to love video games (and hopefully my wife too), that way we can all enjoy playing FF XXV or whatever Final Fantasy MMO game is out at the time.

Well there were days I had off and my wife would be nice enough to take care of our child at the time for the day/fer a while to let her hard wokring man enjoy some GOOD clean FUN game time, as she knew that I relished the chance to get into a party but did not always have the time.I actually got her into playing as well.only had one pc at the time though :P,and loved the game as well.

Only thing kinda bugging me atm is the fact that I have seen a lot of CoH/CoV costume options reused in CO. why not dump them and make all new ones{shrugs}.

CC is still out of control in T3 and T4 imo, same with aoe. hope to see some progress to bring me back, cause it does have potentiel.
