For the clueless, instanced housing is useless as pointed out very well in several posts in this thread.  It basically becomes an extra storage area and that is about it.  Having experienced being part of a very active city in SWG, I can tell you it adds depth and life to the game.

So for you who feel it clutters up the game, you are the ones who play for a short while, then find something to complain about and leave.  Developers should ignore you as you are short term headcount at best.

So if their housing is instanced it is just another yawn.

I agree.. some of my fondest memories of MMOs are of my friends and I in our massive player cities or houses in games like UO, DAOC, etc. It certainly made me feel like I was part of a virtual world. :)

But I do beleive that they will make it similar to FFXI's mog house (instanced, but you can invite people). They've said that their game isn't a simulation in any way, when asked about housing and their economy in a few interviews. Personally I would rather an instance than nothing at all, though.

Same here. All and all , Im really hopeful for this game, I love the Star Wars Universe, never had a chance to play SWG as to when it came out I did not have a PC or access to internet. Now I have a pretty good pc and have played many mmos, they are all getting stagnet with the whole level/grind/farm...dont get me wrong I dont mind the grind per say or farming for stuff, hell I use to farm leather for 2hours in WoW because I WANTED TO. But other  than that it just felt empty after 4years. playing FF11 again reminded me how much TO ME at least a story driven mmo is sooo much better and fun. ya FF11 is more of a time sink to get to max level, but if I have learned anything from wow, its to enjoy the lower levels and ENJOY LEVELING,and the content. And the styleized graphics that bio ware is going for,I think is great...it puts them apart from other mmos imo.

In regards to player housing, it would obviously be a great addition. Preferably not instanced but even then.  So many people see the voice acting/story and assume these professional developers are focussing a solely single player experience for a mmorpg.  Bioware and this very well funded project know exactly what sort of features a mmorpg needs to keep fans playing for years.

In response to comments that voice acting won't make "killing 10 boars" any more fun or exciting, couldn't be more wrong.  Using myself as an example, I never do quests.  Walls of text that are boring and uninteresting.  However those ingame cinemantics and story will definitely make me want to do every possible quest in the game.  So there you go.

Yep :)

You do know that cryptic made COH right? So they were basically making COH 2.0 as some are saying. But the game is great to me, the end of beta event was insanely fun, the apocalypse PvP mode is insanely fun. Get this game regardless of what the trolls say, and the XP nerf was a test....

And I would think everyone has at least tried the game by now.... it has been in open beta, and was open to all since a few days ago....

honestly I had no issue with it being a semi CoH 2, but one other thing came to mind was the fact that IMO the Graphics for Powers in CoH are way better than  in CO. Example: Throw fire: a little puff of orange smoke and than a lilttle stream of orange glow, compared to CoH fire control where there are ACTUAL flames coming out. CoH is around 6years old and CO is new gen,ya figure the Power graphics would have at least been on par....

Did u watch the trailer???? What I am trying to say is there is a different between going out and killing 10 boars versus actual characters that have that kind of immersion in the game itself. Yeah the quest might be go slay 10 boars, but the fell of it will be way different. Take for example the quest from the walkthru. That quest will be different depending on whch flashpoint option you choose, whether you are in a group or solo, etc etc

Why does everyone want to argue. If you don't like a game go hang it in your games forum jeez.

Have to agree, its not that fact that its go kill 10 something/go kill 10 something. at least you know WHY your going and killing 10 things and not just clicking past all the text to get to the objective.

I have never seen a game yet where it hasnt devolved into clicking past the text to get to the objective and as for those that think that it will be about infinite choices and unique character development are going to be horribly disappointed be as with all games once people discover that clicking yes, yes, yes, no, no creates a stronger character than clicking yes, yes, yes, no, yes then character development becomes linear.

People can argue until hell freezes over but every MMO is the same people gravitate to the strongest options whether it be classes, crafts or factions it is all the same.

Bollocks. Try playing Baldur's Gate by just clicking past the text. And I dont mean while checking a printed walkthrough. And there are also MMORPGs that use way less of the typical kill x fillerquests. Guild Wars is an example. While you can discuss its a MMO or not, its quests could be used in games that you do call MMORPGs.

It all boils down to the willingness of the developers.

But yes, there is always the player that tries to avoid any form of challenge, no matter if its twitch, strategic or puzzle based. And immediately turns to guides or other forms of handholding. No developer can fight that. Its not their job to tell players how to play their MMO. At most they can have an idea of how they intended for you to play it.

Not to mention it will be more story driven, witch im really excited about. I'm tired of the ok lets see how fast i can go form 0-80 in. Im at the point I want to ENJOY the games content and story (one of the reasons i returned to FF11). Dont get me wrong end game is hella fun, but its also the journey getting there ,and stories of the misshaps, wipes and sillness while playing that makes a game fun.

Doh well on the subject at hand I think any sort of player housing will be cool, Open would be the coolest of course..instanced not  bad,a place to call home, but at least put in permissions so freinds and guildes can enjoy a nice warm bowl of soup >.0.

Some people (IMO) are getting so critical about mmos/games that it seems to be more stressful than fun. I remember the good old days of playing super mario bro. 3 for 32 hours when it first came out >.0. Toe jam and earl, etc etc.. I dont fall into hype anymore, dont get my hopes up or demand that a game have this or that... I do get excited though to see new info and gameplay video about a game im intrested in playing, that show me what the game is going to be like...and well if its got fun and community in mind Im on board...sorry this is probally not the thread fer that paragraph ..Coffee coffee coffee!!!.

Finally I got in after entering the beta key again on the website, then deleting and re downloading.  The game is fun and graphically is great, but it isn't quite as Massive as I would like my MMO's to be, its just a series of instances and its more like a single player RPG than MMO.  I am sure some would love it though.  And creative possibility for your character is amazing.

ya and honestly it just felt like a one player coin op +CoH with better graphics imo. did not hold my intrest for more than 20min. but like you said some will love it. I think the ones that would get more pleasure out of it are the ones who have never played CoH at all.

Exactly my thoughts as well.  It felt like CoH with redone graphics.  Really nothing new, really nothing innovative.  But heck we can have fun designing heroes with it, which is where most of the fun came in CoH was with the character customization.

Have to agree with ya a LOT on that one :). buuut at $50 and sub idk. ya the character creation was ...only thing i did not like was the human faces you could not really get much but a The Incredibles look a llike imo.

People keep saying they ripped off CoH. Well, first off, if they did then they had that right. They owned the assets, but that's not quite the case here. They used CoH as a bare base to build CO with. CO is still the Champions IP though. It was not copied from CoH, and in fact CoH was based off of the Champions PnP.

Do a little reading, it helps.

Also for the record I don't mind this supposed "xp nerf" as it won't change the game much for those who know what they're doing. It's also not a big deal really since I'm sure it's not that bad...

Honestly that imo would just be lazyness to do so with no intention of originality. I have played CoX. I finally got a chance to play CO with the NOW open beta.

-Character creation was great except for the Human faces all looking like The incredibles in some form or another.

-The power animations were ok: I went with the Throw fire power and honestly it looked like a 2d diablo fire ball, not that great. Game play felt more like a coin op (witch in it self is not to bad).

-Using the same basic story line at the begining was kinda lame : -Said- alien race attacks and errects force fields around the city (as an excusse imo to make things Zoned) in CO. In CoX -said- alien race destroys a lot of the city(s) humans errect force fields to protect the parts that have not been destroyed by -said- alien race. As soon as the first cut scene began and I saw those force fields the first thing it reminded me of was "oh wait Cox has that too.

On the plus it looks like they will have a plethera of Travel powers to pick from, witch is one of the fun things about playing a super hero game. In CoX it was Flying, running and teleporting. looks like in CO they will have about 4 times that.

But all in all If you have never played CoX before, I think IMO that you could enjoy CO,but for me it could not really hold my attention.

ok it seems once you set up your Open beta account you have to go into My account Again and add the beta key again to activate the open beta account  https://www.champions-online.com/user/270879. it appears as the code works the first time but not really as i was able to log in to the launcher and then get the error of server down with out it patching as well. currently my launcher is at the white page  with "loading.please wait" for bout 5minutes witch to me could be a good sign >>0 we will see.

after doing said action above my launcher successfully opened and started to patch with server up, the one other thing i did after activating my beta account the 2nd time was to restart my pc. hope this helps some of you.

I have also this weird error message that I am unsure of what it means.  It says "No shards found: You have a ticket with 0 permission pairs, but no shards."  I just downloaded last night and today was my first time trying to log in to no avail.  I think I might delete, and retry it because I might have done something wrong.

nope i get same thing, i would not waste your time by deleting it and having to wait on the DL..again.

I'm getting the exact same thing, I can't seem to log on at all and have checked the site, but there is no server status listed there.

the server is up 24/7 HOWEVER rember this is a stress test and a beta sometimes they have to take it down after we break it.

Thanks for the info. i know a lot like me are waiting to try it out, just hope they fix what ever issue soon >.0

With that said - I hope they prove me wrong. i am disappointed thusfar. Maybe I was just hoping for someone to swoop down and take what SOE had done to their terrible attempt at a sandbox and show them how it should really be done. Instead I get something that divides players into their own realm instead of sharing it with everyone else.

This is a BioWare game, this has nothing to do with SOE - nothing nothing nothing.  And BioWare has never done a Sandbox game, they do Story-driven and they do it best.

Couldn't they be innovative and do both? This is basically Guild Wars but in Star Wars / Sci-Fi setting. I don't get a sense of community. How do my actions affect EVERYONE and not just myself? Do they? If they affect only my character, what's the point of making this an MMO?

I have my doubts as I have said, and I want to be proven wrong. As of now, instanced games irk me. Call me old-school, but I want to be a part of the greater whole.

If you notice about 3:34 into the demo, he comments about waving at some one else. lol and not to mention this is just a demo,no beta, just a demo..so i can not see how you can come to the conclusion that this game will be mostly instanced. anywho imo its looking pretty good imo, but its still to early to tell.

one other thing to note, people are so critical about the graphics at such an early stage...come on, their more worried about game play, mechanics, classes, bug fixes and such..."you cant quite paint a house til you build the foundation, and put up the walls", those you need to get right first imo, other wise who gives an F about the graphics.

so here is a question, if you liked fallout 3 do you think this game is similar in style. just curious. cause it looks cool, and remindes me a bit of fallout3.

reminds me of fallout 3. mite give this one a try

lol looting corpses is automaticly done, and every game is not everyones cup of tea. I like the fact you cant get to max lvl in a couple weeks, than your just stuck at end game for said years and alts galore.

It reminds me of two dudes who got Halo 3 at laucnch and beat it in like 4hours for 60 bucks, sure its got multi player, but your pretty much done with the game for the most part. All the Rush Rush must have it now attitude, gratifying but also a little empty as well.

was that a web based movement power in the video? if so that is pretty cool. bout time they got a lot more movement powers. Hmmm im torn between this and DCUO as DCUO has not really touched apon there movement powers except the classic Flying and speed ones meh.
