I was just thinking how funny it would be if they make an offical announcement regarding a KoTOR MMO on November 15th.

If I were in the PR department of Bioware I think I would do just that.  : )

Why the 15th? I mean I wish that would happen hehe but why 15th?  Pretty sure they'll wait a good while but at least til after ME is out.

ALSO, as Lucas Arts would have full control in this situation, they PROBABLY wouldn't want to draw away from the dwindling SWG until they're ready to make $ elsewhere.  Though I think Lucas Arts already does some damage to Snoy/SWG just by not crushing this rumor outright and showing 100% support for SGW...

If i remember correctly, that was the date NGE went live ...

I can understand what the OP is saying, it sounds like some of the bugs you bring up are the same ones that have been around for along time now and I don't know why SOE will not fix them.

As far as you liking the Beast Mastery, thats great! but as one person said,.. its good you have been playing for 6 months because if you played criiter handler back in the day,.. you would be upset to see what they are now....

But anyways, hang in there.. I am sure SOE will find time to fix this 6 or 7 months from now.

Sorry, I played Creature Handled pre-NGE and I have to say, Beast Master is much more entertaining.  There's more depth overall to BM then there was to CH.

It depends a bit on what you prefer ofcourse :)

I loved taming my pets myself, i don't like the idea of "producing" pets ... it was much cooler taming that baby, and watch it grow up :D

I loved going out in the wild, searching for and taming that one really special and rare pet ... the thrill was amazing ... finding it, and specially taming it ( and not fail so daddy would chew on you ) ...

I loved collecting rares .. some took me months to find ... while during those times i met tuns of nice people that rested at my camps ...

I loved beeing able to pull out 3 pets ..

I loved the fact all different pets came with their own specialties and armor ratings ... you didn't inject/incubate/whatever it is called them with any skill you would like them to have.. .

And there were many more things ... but again, i admit .. it's personal ...

Coronet starport on an average day .... when servers were really heavy :D

Cantina .... usually at least 2 full 20 man groups entertaining ...

After i used a vet trail a few months ago ... i found 2 people in the whole city of coronet !!!

Bah ... depressed again

Hmmm .... Kaduu's .... definatly :)  .... the sound was horrible ...

My favorites were Mork and Mindy, 2 white swamp-stalkers ... boy did they have a temper :D

Did you forget anything..um let me see..the masses of bugs that infected the game at any one given time.

The bugs were bad sometimes ... but the concept of the game was still good ... just the techies weren't :)

Actually i take that back ... it's not a shame you missed out on that ... i have been lost since, desperatly searching for a game that i can enjoy half as much .. to no prevail yet ...

You've only been playing for 6  months ... a shame that you never got to experience a real sandbox, or the Creature Handler that blows the beastmaster out of the water ...

But yeah ... bug s have always been there .... what tend to annoy me most was the buildings popup 1 or 2 meters in front of you :) ... or some days where you just got stuck in them when driving through :)

The bugs got really bad when they started implementing JTL... not to long ago i tried the 14 day vet-trial ... and was amazed that 2 years later, it still had some of the same bugs !!

I still think the original idea was good .... make it very hard to become Jedi, tell no-one how-to and have it different for every user. Visibility was a good system, and make dying to a bountyhunter punish you very hard ...

I wouldn't make Jedi an Uber-jedi class ... but do give them some unique and slightly more powerfull skills ... give us a reason to work hard for them :)

I hope it will not be made "console-ready" ... and yet another level/class based mmorpg ...

I just keep dreaming of a pre-cu SWG style Kotor with a new engine :D .... sandboxed, complex economy/crafting, and lot's of social interaction ....

Argrhh ...

You made me lookup my old guild-hunt screenshots ... 10+ master CH's with each 2-3 pets out ... it was a mess, but soooo much fun....

Creature handler in SWG .... Hunter in WoW .... definately will go for werefox :) ...

Haven't played it yet, but i heard Perfect World (look it up in gamelist) seems to be a very nice, quest (5000+)  oriented mmo ... Open Beta should start somewhere this weekend ...

Installed the english version yesterday, but so far have not been able to log in .... keeps telling me it can't connect to server ...

Is it just me ?

500 ... that is pretty impressive, and promising for some big pvp battles :)

Hi, I'm going to use this topic to ask some questions, I hope the OP doesnt mind

I used to play back in 2003 untill somewhere in 2004 (dont remember) and loved the game, even with the loads of problems it had back then... (waypoints to nothing, missions broken, lots of specials not working (my poor pistoller), no mounts, no spedders, etc...)

Then mounts came, speeders and Bikes, cities, and more stuff, but I left for real life issues.

Today I went to SWG official site and remembered those good days, so I think I'm going to try it for a month just to see how it is.

I'm from Europe, and played in Eclipse (non-official euro server) and after I went to Chimaera.

Are these 2 servers still ok in terms of population or should I go to other servers?

I'm going to make an update to my own post.

I have made the download of the Vets trial and it was the best thing I could do.

Eclipse is not very populated but Chimaera is "High" in Europe prime time and I've never seen it bellow Medium at least in normal hours of the day in Europe, so the game is far from dead in that aspect

To make things short I'll just say that I will be resubscribing the game when the trial period is over, so I can continue to have fun in the Star wars.

It's marked high when there are more then 3 people logged in

Well, back in the old days when Creature Handler was still fun and a valid profession,  Bio-engineers used fish to create high-level Pet stimpacks (D/E) ...

Fixed

Bio-engineer was one of my favorite professions....Beastmaster crafting just bored me to tears

Thanks for the fix, but it was written that way intentionally.

Unfortunatly you can't hear the contempt in my voice through these posts

Nice, but you do have to agree that games are becoming more casual than before. And too easy and too linear do not make a good play environment. It's like telling a kid to play with Lego but he has to follow the directions in the booklet and most of the hard parts are already put together.

I'm all for sandbox, because I don't like t do what the game tells me to do. Ex: In WoW I tried to solo Azuregos when I was level 14. Ex: I spent 3 days trying to find a nice place to make a fire and fish. Ex: I had a level 6 human run (using only hidden paths) from Westfall, through and old unused country, found an empty shack, and ended up running to Loch Modan(it's a long way away). I rarely play games the way that they're meant to be played. I have yet to finish any of the guilds in Oblivion except the thieves guild. In Morrowind I build a house out of misc' objects (Ex: Pillows, Lamps, Books, etc). I spend entire games of Worms3D building massive bases out of the dirt with a shotgun and girders. In RTSs I always build an economically flourishing empire whether you are allowed to win through peace or not. Well once I made a peasant army in AoE2:AoK. My ideal game is a complete sandbox. I wish that they still made sandbox MMOs. I mean, I'm a bit of an extreme case but, I'm just saying that we're out here maintaining the naivety. We are the type that join guilds to have fun, the ones that hate having to do anything in particular, and the ones who find people who like powerguilds, vent, farming, twinking, and people who are obsessive about K/D ratios strange.

ME FTW!

No man, you and me FTW.

I'm with you, and I play like you do.  I don't think that the games have become more "casual."  In fact, quite the opposite.  SWG (back when it was good) was one of the most casual friendly games I knew.  We didn't have 40 man raids or DKP like in WoW.  Instead, we had the 20 man "PUG-o-Thons" on Endor and Dathomir!  People would grab two missions, join the PUG, and maybe do 2 or three missions and leave, but the group continued.  In those days, we didn't care if we invited the dancer or the chef, and we didn't use TS or Vent.  It was just the thing to do, and everyone had a good time.

In my opinion, the whole "casual" versus "hardcore" distinction is a non-starter, because you can be a hardcore user on a so-called casual game (like WoW), or a casual player on a so-called hardcore game (like EVE).

What made the "sandbox" games "hardcore" is that the developers made it so easy to stay logged on.  SWG made trivial things like standing at the starport or in the cantina doing nothing but peep watching fun.  In fact, I used to say that in SWG, I could spend a whole afternoon just sitting in the starport, and never feel like I was wasting my time.  Now that is a game that encourages hardcore hours, my friend!

I can't say the same about the new SWG.  In the new SWG, there is no reason to stay logged on unless you are doing something, and the actual doing of things is so visually taxing, you are mentally drained after you do it, and you want to log off.  Same thing with CoH, or WoW.  It's really a test of will to keep grinding, because the combat is much more taxing to execute.

I honestly believe that the games are designed these days to encourage logging off, rather than staying logged on.  The reason for this is partly to discourage grinding, overloaded servers, and more subscription months.  I also think it's because powergamers who have no real desire to "live" in the world found the earler games too easy, or too unlike what they are used to (FPS games, mostly).

Very good points ....

Today it seems more about achieving, then enjoying ... I find myself logging into several newer mmorp's just to "enhance" my character or simply wondering "what to do now??"... while in SWG i spend 6 days in a row walking accross Endor to find and tame that one rare baby, setting up my tent everywhere, enjoying scenery and music ... and i had a blast !!

I found LotrO to be a big dissapointment.

Got my hopes up for The Chronicles of Spellborn  and Warhammer, give yourself some time to dig into these games :)

Currently ... hmm ... not any game that is out :) ...

""What lies hidden, must be found ..." probably reflects on the game itself ;)
