Realm of the mad god ... now also on steam.

I'm Dutch ... so when it's free, i'm game!

I can wrap it up in one word.

Fun.

And that's all i need :)

This game is fun to play for when your bored and want to waste a few hours. Its really fun and punishing at the same time. The way the game is made, perma death isn't that bad of a thing. Really wish they added more ways to actually survive than relying on luck.

The trick is to hit  the "portal to nexus" button when you are about to die ... it will instantly take you out of danger.

I rebound the quick key to portal to "Q" .

But still i die very often, surprised by huge swarms of mobs :)

Pre-cu SWG enhanced:

- Bugfree !!!

- Additional themepark planets (eventhough i'm a sandboxer, i do like questing)

- Many,many live events ... these games need game-masters

- Working GCW

- No jedi's, or ultra rare

- Never ending character progression (though with a rediculous small amount of gain)

- No silly vet rewards that kill the game mechanics (like SDK's)

- Option to create content (bit like eq2)

- Faction planets to conquer

Yep, i'm at that spot too.

I've been gaming for 30 years now, but currently it's impressive if a game can keep me playing for longer then 1 night.

SWG was my last long lasting game too ... since then i've been dwelling.

I'm lost ...

I understand why they want you to use origin ... it's to stop people from buying 2nd handed versions of the game.

I'm allowed to sell  a cd i'm done listening to, a book i finished reading ... but obviously not the game i'm done playing.

Due to this silly offine games requiring to be online to play they kinda miss the fact they are pushing even more people into piracy.

Btw: Have been using steam for many years and love it ... but i hate having to run 3 different ones :S

Last week i stumbled accross this little gem when I saw someone play it at twitchtv.

I gave it a try and it caught me by surprise, it's really fun and addicting :)

After playing terraria a while back, and now this, it showed me again to appreciate the Indie stuff and that size nor graphics  matter (though maybe for longevity)  :)

Have fun: http://www.realmofthemadgod.com/

In the Pokket .... erm, pocket.

The game is pretty cool ... but i can't get myself past level 25.

From level 20 and up you need to repeat the same dungeon so many times to level up, it starts feeling like a grind.

I actually think it's just hybrid enough to pull in fans from both sides ...

Who doesn't like a slide in a sandbox?

I hope it will do well ... it's my last hope for a fun game.

yes, that desperate :)

If this game is meant as a "step up" for the MMO ... wouldn't it be smart to release it for free?

You give your new addicts the goods for free .. untill they depend on it :)

Maybe they would like the additional funding to help them finish their mmo?

If they have enough faith in their MMO, they don't need it ;)

At least they can reuse a lot of things.

What the hell does faith have to do with funding? sheesh some people...

You obviously missed the wink.

The demo was ok-ish at best, definately not worth 60 bucks. Funding should not be a problem for a company the size of EA ... so why 60 bucks i ask you?

You actually need to MANAGE your testers.

- Define use and abuse cases

- Track activity of testers

- Support your testers in test methods and improving the quality of bug reports

- Have different testing groups to focus on areas (combat/crafts/pvp/hacking/exploiting/griefing/etc..)

- Evaluate the effectiveness of your testers and replace them where needed.

- Reward your valuable testers.

I think there are many ways to get good use out of your testers, but the key is to keep the group manageable and actually manage them like they were your own employees.

Regarding the load performance test ... i understand their need, but in godsname also call it a load test then.

Regarding the use of beta as marketing tool ... why don't you just release a demo 2 weeks before release  ... that always worked best for me.

Right after reading this i ended up on the TERA beta signup page.

http://tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/beta-test-schedule

After reading that, noone can say you are wrong :) ... not a word about "improving the game"  or " finding bugs" ... what has the emphasis is "Eager to get your hands on TERA?"

And still servers went down which only confirms my theory that this is the right way to go. They let bazillion players try to log in which gave them perfect load test. Beta test successful. The facts that no one could play is irrelevant for devs. They will sell it to you as "early sneak peak" when in fact it's "early load test".

I can follow that logic ... but this is not one test .. it's for all (5) closed beta tests.

I can't agree more.

I already lost interest at 25 ... it was tedious. My friends managed to keep me leveling till 40 and then i really couldn't stand it anymore.
