When is the trend going to break from fantasy to the near future?

I've been playing MMO's since Star Wars (pre-cu). Now I'm waiting for V:SoH to come out. When are we going to see the end of the band wagon of a level system and see a skill system. Like you have a certain amount of health and what not, and if you get shot you either live or die. Not saying the level system is bad but 90% of all MMO's goes by the level system. It's like a unwritten law that all company's go buy. "If you make a MMO you must use the level system or it won't sell." I would love to see a MMo that doesn't use a level system, but something that resembles a skill tree or a skill system. If I was rich I would love to hire people to make a MMO that doesn't involve a level system and isn't medieval fantasy, but I'm not rich nor do i have god money so i can't do both. What i want to know when is Fasa going to get their shot at the MMORPG world, they have 2 great table top games. Battletech and Shadowrun. I presonally think those would bank. Even though Battletech would blow alot of them out of the water, due to the size of the table top game itself, and locations. I guess i'm getting burned out of seeing the same ol, same ol. Even though it's a new game it still has the same feel, Grind, level up, wash, rinse and repeat. |
