EVE is doing pretty damned well.
Even Darkfall is getting a nice boost in activity and population since a lot of EU players came over to the NA servers.
What does darkfall need? 1) Less grind (Skill caps, stat caps, specialization) 2) Completely redesigned n00b experience 3) Meaningful alignment system 4) Improved siege system 5) More special abilities 6) Better UI 7) More lore 8) Better quests 9) Lighting system that works 10) Better territory control 11) Deeper crafting 12) Better clan management tools 13) Better housing system
Hopefully they will address a lot of it in DF 2.0 |

Would you play Darkfall is the XP gain was 4x normal?

Unfortunate that Darkfall has such a poor image.
I really believe that many people would find it more enjoyable if there wasn't as much of a grind. |

Recently AV did a free/increased XP weekend that brought a lot of vets and new players back. Unfortunately, the increased XP only lasted for that weekend.
I personally believe that keeping the 4x XP gain permanent until DF 2.0 would help bring a lot of old and new players to the game and help make the world feel more alive. Thoughts? |

There are A LOT of bugs and lag/performance issues.
Balance is also pretty terrible right now.
HOWEVER, the game has a lot of potential. I just hope they continue to work on it. |

Protecting n00bs and 3d Person Magic and Archery
General Discussion « Darkfall 10/03/11 7:43:45 AM
In case you missed it, the latest status update confirmed that AV was taking steps to make it harder for vets to grief new players in and around NPC cities, and they are also looking at adding 3rd person to magic and melee.

100% convinced Blizzard has corrupt employees.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/06/11 6:47:15 PM
1) Blizzard employees probably can't see your password, only change it 2) Admin password changes are probably tracked for audit purposes, so employees would not be stupid enough to do this 3) Most "hacked" passwords are the fault of the account owner being stupid 4) Cry more |

I just can't help but to think back about EU release and how much fun that was.
Since the majority of macroing and exploiting to get skill gains has been fixed, I feel like it would be a much more enjoyable situation for everyone. |

Simple question.
Server Wipe/New Server.
Would you be interested in playing? |

So you cannot create a village and kill people who try to come into it and steal things?
Sounds fun... |

2 hour old character, 20 pole arm and bow = lots of dead players in human lands

The root of most of Darkfall's problems are the grind and low population. |

Best politics of any game. A lot of meaningless nutcupping in large alliances though. |

A good mixture of scale, studded and bone armor will provide good protections, low encumberance and cost around 500g. For reference, a single goblin drops around 10g 10 arrows (worth 1.5-2g ea) and skins for goblin teeth (10-30g ea) and eyes (5-10g ea).
The problem is that n00bs will focus too much on getting a complete set of plate armor or something which is expensive, and won't make a huge difference for them. |

Eh, I wouldn't say that the population is growing yet.
There has been a large influx of trial players, but we wont truly know what impact this will have on the overall population for a few weeks.
All I can say is that now is a good time to try the game out and roll as a human. Human lands are actually pretty alive for once. And PLEASE if you are a vet, try helping new players instead of ganking them. |

1) Alignment was not as big a problem at release because people could defend themselves, not because the system was better. 2) PvE'ing with r0-r20 weapons will raise your melee skill very quickly. Start out on goblins, kobolds and trolls. Move one to hobgoblins, svartdegir and undead dwarves. I would say that 20 hours of dedicated melee could get you to 50+ melee mastery. 3) The magic grind takes hundreds of hours of continuous casting, and millions of gold. Grinded up magic makes a huge difference 4) The stat grind takes hundreds of hours of continuous action and makes a huge difference.
There is a lot of grind in Darkfall, but you can have fun without grinding. The alignment system sucks and there are a lot of douchebag n00b gankers, but there are also a lot of great people.
Darkfall is the best MMO on the market today. It still has a ton of problems, but it is by far the best.

Most Darkfall players are not douchebags. A n00b asking in Race Alliance for some n00b gear during peak hours will likely find someone to help them.

It is harder for n00bs starting out now than it was at release. The game is still worthwhile, but the community really needs to help n00bs more. |

This video is going to really hurt the game.
Anyone who buys the game based on this video will quickly quit when they realize that most n00bs will be sitting on about 500g in the bank, and maybe 20 GS skill after 3 days. |
