build from scrap and since money isnt an issue go with the higher cost intel and buy a rediculous case encrusted with jewells

it's way overpriced and the case looks like it was made in the 1950's but hell you have the money right?

That's quite possibly the ugliest looking rig I've ever seen.

is Tera Alive?

I just started on Valley of Titans, one of the new servers and am finding myself surrounded by excited, bouncing, oft offensive yet well meaning newblets.  So far I'm having a lot of fun, soaking up the beautiful sights and wondering why I didn't start earlier.  Take advantage of the newly F2P TERA, I doubt you'll regret it, honest.

If you're in a funk while waiting for several of the hopefully blockbuster MMOs later this year, this will no doubt keep you busy if not provide you with what you were looking for from the get go.

That's awfully posh. Do you mean wankers..?

No matter how good or bad this game turns out to be, they are getting ready to milk you dry, sunshine. That's for certain...

Well if you think paying $60 up front for a game is milking you, I guess you never buy any games.

Well, no, I actually play quite a few. The point I'm making here is that based on PW's cash shop record you can look forward to lots of opportunities going forward to part with you hard-earned dosh. You don't need to rush in now waving your $200 dollars above your head.

PW know how to make money from a cash shop and they're being very coy about the exact format to be used here. I believe that restraint is advisable at this stage.

Well the $200 has been debated to death now. Yes it is expensive. No it is not representative of the cashshop after release we know nothing about.

Well that's agreed and I hope PW will move more towards the Turbine/LotRO format for their paymat format - I think it works very well.

Nope only complainers and crybabies think so.  For some of us this is a perfect opportunity to support Cryptic with the funds for an awesome MMO.

Now if the price was mandatory you would have a complaint but this founders pack is for those who want the items and the guarenteed beta invites.  Nothing wrong at all because the company is providing the things players want and not what they need.

Well, fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, I suppose and you're right, it's not mandatory. I still think though, that bearing in mind the incredible hype that often accompanies these MMO games, the number of the so-called WOW-killers that have gone 'free to play' in double quick time in recent years and the lack of lots of solid information about this game, it's crazy to consider spending this type of money at this time.

I'm a big fan of the Forgotten Realms and Drizzt  Do'Urden and all that too, but I wouldn't entertain this expense at this stage.

And PWE aren't dependent on collecting €200 from their players in orde to develop a decent game. They have plenty of resources already. Stop behaving like you 'owe' them this money as some kind of supportive 'slap on the back' for their efforts.

No matter how good or bad this game turns out to be, they are getting ready to milk you dry, sunshine. That's for certain...

I have to say, at this stage, knowing so little about what this game is really goint to be like - including the way in which we're going to pay for it, I really would never consider spending $200 on it. I'd rather leave it and see what the thing is like when it comes out. Been too badly burned by MMOs in the past to risk another hit...

Wow, there are a lot of people who post.

But when a P2P goes F2P, that already means it's not a good model.  It was not designed with F2P in mind.

There are some things that need to be considered for F2P:

1.  All content needs to be free.  No charging money for opening up zones or anything like that.

2. You do not sell items that give advantage in game, except for time savings, etc., meaning you sell fluff, like cosmetic, pets, etc.

3. The fluff needs to be also purchasable by game money.

So, the game is entirely free to play and the only way the company is going to make any money is by selling cosmetic crap in its cash shop?

Please, never go into business for yourself....

I'm at work and I haven't played for many months, so I don't know what my exact settings are, I can confirm they are set at the very high end though. I don't have any mods running. I see what you're saying and I'm not arguing, I think they are unlikely to be completely maxed out on the meagre hardware that I have, but the point I was making is still valid. You can achieve an awful lot with a lesser system and the answer isn't always to run out and buy expensive new kit that you mightn't need...

I honestly think people often under-estimate what their systems can do.

I have this - Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53ghz; Windows XP; 4gigs of RAM (three recognised) and an HD4870 (second hand).

You'll agree that most reasonably well-off youngsters are doing their homeworks on systems with better specs than this one, but it's all I can afford I'm afraid.

The point is that I can play Skyrim, LOTRO and Diablo 3 all on maximum settings with smooth gameplay and good FPS. I rarely experience any problems.

Now I know that there are plenty of new games that would leave me and my crappy computer in bits, but I think what I'm saying is that if you maintain your system, defrag it regularly, keep it clean and turn off unwanted processes, you can crank plenty out of even the most humble of set-ups. You often don't need the tons of RAM and giant-killer video cards that some of the guys on here will recommend.

I think you'll be fine...

Obviously fansites are mostly visited by people already dedicated to the game. That being said, yes they are making silly amounts of money with the cartel market. All F2P games with a sizeable population do. Its like putting a one armed bandit into a corner of your restaurant, your not selling less food, but you will make extra money with it.

Reason being that many people have no problem a sub, thats fine. However there is a subgroup in those subbers, that don't have any problem spending 10x a subs value on a ingame store if it happens to carry something they like. I spent like 50$ myself, getting field respecs and the like for all my chars, its quite handy and i don't mind the money.

That being said I like playing subscription based MMOs as it tends to keep the trash out of my playground.

Oh ffs, I already knew it was sub-based. I re-subbed without checking the price and then noticed on my bank statement that it was £12.49. Clear..?

Yes, you're right, I don't know why the extra £1 is on there, but I can't really face the customer service treadmill in order to find out....

I recently started playing this again and have just seen on my bank statement that this has cost £12.49 sterling for the month. I'm not sure what the average monthly sub is these days, but it's usually around £8.50 or so, isn't it?

Whatever, £12.49 is waaay to expensive for a monthly game sub - I'll be cancelling this one soon as I get home.

I'll be honest, I'm usually the type of person that plays a lot and not neccessarily rushes to end game but doesn't mind taking the fast track to the end game.  With TSW though the story is so amazing that I find myself having to do ever single quest.  So while what you described doesn't really bother me, I can however understand your fusteration with wanting to experience the game with as much emersion as possible.

Cant wait till we get our rocket launchers!

No matter where I go.. OMG tons of people ... very fun.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have been playing MMOs since Everquest and I have noticed a disturbing trend.  Prior to EQ, those of us that loved the fantasy genre played roleplaying games with dice, paper, pencil and a group of friends.  The game was best enjoyed with a group, all contributing both through their charaacters skills but probably even more importantly through their wit and roleplaying.  The memories of those years of paper and pencil gaming will last me a lifetime and I think of them fondly.

Of course, as technology allowed our paper and pencil games to move to computer (i.e., Bards Tale, Ultima and Wizardry) and ultimately the internet (Everquest) the games at the beginning of the computer version of the fantasy genre were very similar to paper and pencil gaming as they placed a huge emphasis on grouping for EVERYTHING.  I have played every major MMO since EQ1 and while the game play and graphics are always improving, the PvE part of the games is not in my opinion.  Quests in EQ were hard and long.  EQOA had questlines that took weeks to complete and you needed a group for basically every part of the quest.  EQ2 came out and added a solo-element to the game.  While for me at first this was a welcomed change and allowed me to enjoy the genre without the time sink necessary to have a regular group, I didn’t realize until Guild Wars 2 how much I have missed grouping as a requirement and how much MMOs have changed, negatively in my opinion, since EQ1.

I will give GW2 great applause for a very polished gameplay experience but what is missing in mind (and RIFT had the same problem) is the community.  No one really chats and there is very little reason to group.  As an old paper and pencil fuddy-duddy from the 1970s what is missing from GW2 (and it is missing from RIFT, WOW, SWTOR, LOTRO and others) is the need to group for more than just raids or dungeons.  Grouping for regular grinding or epic quests creates lots of opportunities for meaningful and prolonged interaction, banter,  which lead to meaningful in-game friendships. With the elimination of a standalone healer class this downward slide away from grouping was the last straw for me.

So, to those that I have played with online (Dairith, Qen, Nicci, Windbear, Xerios, Windbear, and Maxpain) thank you for the memories from the EQ and WoW franchise.  As of an hour ago, I have decided that GW2 was the last MMO I will ever play.  I have deleted the game from the computer and actually pulled out my paper and pencil PATHFINDER books and am forming a local group of adults (have 4 so far) and we are going to have the interaction that we hoped could have been achieved from videogames.   So my departure from GW2 (and retirement from MMOs) should not be taken as a reflection on the gameplay, but instead a fundamental flaw in the MMO market--- the lost art of meaningful and longer term interaction with other players.  Prior to my retirement, I choose to play MMOs over Single-player RPG because I desired the company of other individuals to create shared memories, experiences, and friendships.  I have been playing GW2 since beta and found that there is very minimal chatting…. People are just too busy smashing buttons.  Quests are short and travel distances are short… it seems that others who are playing this game just don’t have the same need that I do for the connection with other players.  So farewell MMOs….. I will be slaying my dragons with 4 friends in the same room, a number of cold beers, plastic dice, metal miniatures and graph paper.

Teak Dharan

I hear where you're coming from and I sympathise with you, I'm from an older generation of gamers too. But I play LOTRO now and while it's perfectly easy to solo your way through that game, there is still a very active and chatty community attached to it - much more so than most of the other games I've looked at recently. So perhaps the answer to greater community doesn't lie in forcing people to group - after all, it's more difficult for older people like us to find the time these days. Perhaps you just need to provide a mature gaming environment with lots to do and talk about and lots of reasons for voluntary grouping/communication, and the rest will come. Just a thought...

I thought you said this was a "hate-fee" summary?  Sure sounded like bitching to me.  Funny, I'm level 67 and haven't had these issues you are whining about except the obvious one of the Trading Post being down.  I never crash, I never find content I can't complete, I'm always able to PVP, make characters and so forth.  Maybe...you entered the twilight zone or something when you hit 80.  Take a break, come back later, or just go play something else and leave those of us who don't mind these roadbumps in peace.  Isn't like it's the first great MMO to have issues at it's birth.

Gotta love the honeymoon phase.

I mean you can call me blinded by fanboism as well just because the only problem I've had was the TO being down, nothing else..but thats a fact, and judging by your post history kol56 you seem to spend your free time hating on a video game( Hmm I wonder which one), most likely nothing better to do. Anyway OP not sure why you can't do any content like everyone else, its really unfortunate that your in this situation ( that is if your telling the truth).

You seem a bit upset.

Calm down and go find something better to do than attacking random posters.

If it didn't happened to you... it doesn't matter, the issues are real.

If you actually readed what i quoted, elocky was basically saying "shut up, stop crying, play the game and don't say anything bad about it", even when he admits a few "roadbumps", TLDR, "don't say bad things about my shiny precious" = Honeymoon in full force.

At least im not checking the post history of other users, unlike you, i could care less, and by the looks of it, im not the one who doesn't have anything to do.

I didn't get that at all from elocke's response. He acknowledged the "roadbumps" in the game. The OP did say "hate free", but then proceeds to pick everything that was going wrong in the game, as if they won't be fix sooner or later. It's not neccessarily hating, but his formatting different from what I had expected from a "hate free" summary. What's the point of even "bitching", right? Why not just play the game, and when you find that everything you want to do in the game is currently unavailable, just put the game down. There is absolutely no "honeymoon phase" kind of thinking here. It's more about being optimistic.

yep agree, who needs posts like this when we have vitriol from the "AVENGERS OF SWTORS HONOR" coming like roaches out of the woodwork every second. (which we also predicted would happen). Just play be patient and don't rush to 80 everyone warned you against doing that.

Oh BTW the vendors ONLY are there in the temples when you CAPTURE a temple and then only for a few minutes. Thought you should know since people obviously have stopped watching videos on certain aspects of the game.

That's most likely why you haven't found one, because there's not enough 80's to actually KILL the mobs coming to take the temples away from you? and you can't even get to those until you've done the initial Orr DE's to enter the area. Mobs everywhere.

Being well informed is a nice thing.

I wonder why you would predict "avengers of SWTORs honor" attacking these forums. I guess it could be because those forums were attacked on a regular basis by GW2 fanboys......

The fact is a lot of things it was criticised for are showing up in this game.

The thing is that even when SWTOR at it's start had so many players, i do not remember any gold sellers, account hacks or anything like that.

I like both games and i have played  GW2 alone since it's commencement but i like SWTOR too.

That's it, can't stand it any more. Would every American on this site who thinks the expression "could care less" actually makes sense - listen up. The bloody expression is "couldn't care less", for God's sake, it doesn't even make sense your way and every bloody one of you uses it wrongly. If your going to post so the whole world can read it, learn the language first for fuck's sake...
