I think it's pretty clear from the first paragraph that this guy didn't like (or perhaps didn't want to like) ESO. I'm not commenting one way or another about the game, but in order to take a review seriously, you have to believe that the guy writing it is being objective and honest. This guy is seething with hatred for this game, that's obvious pretty much from the outset, and as such, I think his so-called review is pointless.

Sense of Entitlement - I do not want to pay but I want to have everything people that are paying have.

Get use to the idea you do not get everything that a paying customer has.

It is fair that a person who pays has an advantage, it is childlike to think otherwise.

The Past - Monthly fees for everyone who plays till the game is almost dead then they would switch to some form of F2P to keep the game going and get some new faces in hopes they might spend money.

The Future - Some type of sub fee and or cash shop that gives the paying customer a better experience but also lets the people who do not support the game financially a chance to play the game for more targets for the paying customers.

Less and less people are on the side of Free players should be totally equal to paying customers.

ArcheAge is not going to change because people who will not spend money are not happy.

That's about the height of it, particularly the last line. There's an awful lot of whining goes on in these forums about F2P and much of it is understandable tbh, but the plain truth is that the guy who pays the money, calls the shots. And if you're not parting with any cash, then games companies will feel justified in ignoring you.

The engine Cryptic uses in their games is terrible. Its blurry across all of them. Not even disabling that horribly overused post processing helps.

What are you talking about LOL. This game looks as good or better the rift. IT has a lot of great texturing and use of bump maps and dx11 effects,

I think some ya'll need to upgrade those Wow puters to the 21st century and put away thos CRT's for nice crisp HD monitors :) .

I play this on a 32-inch HD monitor with an HD7850 2gb - Neverwinter is a good game, but it is definitely 'blurry'...

Dude you obviously have no clue.

I hope somebody rallys to devalue the work you do... whatever it may be, so they can cut you out of the economic picture.

As a 3D artist I take offence, you are basically suggesting nobody deserves to profit from their hard work.

Spoiled and entitled millennials are the absolute worst, see my sig!

I believe the latter part of the subject title is better directed towards the OP...

Box price has nothing to do with profits.

Look at LoL, world of tanks or any game that has made 100s of millions and didn't have a box price (nor sub fee).

LoL artists still get paid.

IMO - OP makes a valid point, having a $60 entry fee just to try the game followed by $15 fee each following month - its a tough sell these days.

Also having boxes sit on retail shelves at stores is very costly, if those boxes don't sell at the pre-agreed volume, Bethesda has to buy them back... I wonder how many folks don't realize this.

Shelf space is not free.

And since they are out on consoles too, can't avoid retail boxes as digital sales are still a tiny % on the consoles when it comes to full games with multi-GB clients.

Agreed. And think about this scenario - you fancy a game so when it comes out, you lay out maybe £30 or more for the box and get a month's free play time. Maybe you sub for a month or two after that as well. Then the bloody thing goes FTP and every gamer and his brother has access to the same content you've been shelling out for over the previous three months.

That's a slap in the face by anybody's reckoning. I've always thought that if a game goes free to play then there should be some recognition of those players who bought the game when it was new.

Or you got to play a game you enjoyed enough to stick around playing for 6 months, that's what you got from it. Or maybe I'm wrong, and you spent 6 months doing something you hated. If that's the case maybe you should re evaluate how you spend your free time.
That is absolutely right. I've lost count of the number of ridiculous posts I've read over the years that say things like, "I've been playing this game now for four straight years and I can tell you it is complete shit...".
Honestly OP, as this poster says, you hate the game but you've been playing since launch or some such, I can't remember, your post was such a load of whining old crap I can't be bothered to look back at it.
The point is, why did you stick with it for so long if it was so bad? It's not the game, it's you. People burn out on MMOs then they round on the game and start pulling it to bits. You really should re-evaluate how you spend your spare time - do something you enjoy.

Not sure, but I think that's a pre-order...

About to get a new pc but before I do I wanted to get some ideas or suggestions, my budget is $5000 and don't say it's a waste of money : )

build from scrap and since money isnt an issue go with the higher cost intel and buy a rediculous case encrusted with jewells

it's way overpriced and the case looks like it was made in the 1950's but hell you have the money right?

That's quite possibly the ugliest looking rig I've ever seen.

is Tera Alive?

If you're in a funk while waiting for several of the hopefully blockbuster MMOs later this year, this will no doubt keep you busy if not provide you with what you were looking for from the get go.

That's awfully posh. Do you mean wankers..?

No matter how good or bad this game turns out to be, they are getting ready to milk you dry, sunshine. That's for certain...

Well if you think paying $60 up front for a game is milking you, I guess you never buy any games.

Well, no, I actually play quite a few. The point I'm making here is that based on PW's cash shop record you can look forward to lots of opportunities going forward to part with you hard-earned dosh. You don't need to rush in now waving your $200 dollars above your head.

PW know how to make money from a cash shop and they're being very coy about the exact format to be used here. I believe that restraint is advisable at this stage.

Well the $200 has been debated to death now. Yes it is expensive. No it is not representative of the cashshop after release we know nothing about.

Well that's agreed and I hope PW will move more towards the Turbine/LotRO format for their paymat format - I think it works very well.

Nope only complainers and crybabies think so.  For some of us this is a perfect opportunity to support Cryptic with the funds for an awesome MMO.

Now if the price was mandatory you would have a complaint but this founders pack is for those who want the items and the guarenteed beta invites.  Nothing wrong at all because the company is providing the things players want and not what they need.

Well, fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion, I suppose and you're right, it's not mandatory. I still think though, that bearing in mind the incredible hype that often accompanies these MMO games, the number of the so-called WOW-killers that have gone 'free to play' in double quick time in recent years and the lack of lots of solid information about this game, it's crazy to consider spending this type of money at this time.

I'm a big fan of the Forgotten Realms and Drizzt  Do'Urden and all that too, but I wouldn't entertain this expense at this stage.

And PWE aren't dependent on collecting €200 from their players in orde to develop a decent game. They have plenty of resources already. Stop behaving like you 'owe' them this money as some kind of supportive 'slap on the back' for their efforts.

No matter how good or bad this game turns out to be, they are getting ready to milk you dry, sunshine. That's for certain...

I have to say, at this stage, knowing so little about what this game is really goint to be like - including the way in which we're going to pay for it, I really would never consider spending $200 on it. I'd rather leave it and see what the thing is like when it comes out. Been too badly burned by MMOs in the past to risk another hit...

Wow, there are a lot of people who post.

But when a P2P goes F2P, that already means it's not a good model.  It was not designed with F2P in mind.

There are some things that need to be considered for F2P:

1.  All content needs to be free.  No charging money for opening up zones or anything like that.

2. You do not sell items that give advantage in game, except for time savings, etc., meaning you sell fluff, like cosmetic, pets, etc.

3. The fluff needs to be also purchasable by game money.

So, the game is entirely free to play and the only way the company is going to make any money is by selling cosmetic crap in its cash shop?

Please, never go into business for yourself....

I'm at work and I haven't played for many months, so I don't know what my exact settings are, I can confirm they are set at the very high end though. I don't have any mods running. I see what you're saying and I'm not arguing, I think they are unlikely to be completely maxed out on the meagre hardware that I have, but the point I was making is still valid. You can achieve an awful lot with a lesser system and the answer isn't always to run out and buy expensive new kit that you mightn't need...

I honestly think people often under-estimate what their systems can do.

I have this - Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53ghz; Windows XP; 4gigs of RAM (three recognised) and an HD4870 (second hand).

You'll agree that most reasonably well-off youngsters are doing their homeworks on systems with better specs than this one, but it's all I can afford I'm afraid.

The point is that I can play Skyrim, LOTRO and Diablo 3 all on maximum settings with smooth gameplay and good FPS. I rarely experience any problems.

Now I know that there are plenty of new games that would leave me and my crappy computer in bits, but I think what I'm saying is that if you maintain your system, defrag it regularly, keep it clean and turn off unwanted processes, you can crank plenty out of even the most humble of set-ups. You often don't need the tons of RAM and giant-killer video cards that some of the guys on here will recommend.

I think you'll be fine...

Obviously fansites are mostly visited by people already dedicated to the game. That being said, yes they are making silly amounts of money with the cartel market. All F2P games with a sizeable population do. Its like putting a one armed bandit into a corner of your restaurant, your not selling less food, but you will make extra money with it.

Reason being that many people have no problem a sub, thats fine. However there is a subgroup in those subbers, that don't have any problem spending 10x a subs value on a ingame store if it happens to carry something they like. I spent like 50$ myself, getting field respecs and the like for all my chars, its quite handy and i don't mind the money.

It's not a word - but it should be!

So you only found out through a bank statement that you purchased a subscription based MMO? I find that really hard to believe. I believe it is more likely the OP is a Troll.  For every subscription based MMO, you have to agree to a payment plan.

That being said I like playing subscription based MMOs as it tends to keep the trash out of my playground.

Oh ffs, I already knew it was sub-based. I re-subbed without checking the price and then noticed on my bank statement that it was £12.49. Clear..?

Yes, you're right, I don't know why the extra £1 is on there, but I can't really face the customer service treadmill in order to find out....

I recently started playing this again and have just seen on my bank statement that this has cost £12.49 sterling for the month. I'm not sure what the average monthly sub is these days, but it's usually around £8.50 or so, isn't it?

Whatever, £12.49 is waaay to expensive for a monthly game sub - I'll be cancelling this one soon as I get home.
