AoC has potential? really? The game is so flawed at its very core that it was always going to be shit.

What most people don't realize is that 90% of the people that left AoC left because the game was boring in the long run, cheep thrills early on but not substance. No AoC is a shallow game and its designed to be shallow, they never even made an effort to make it otherwise.

Once you get past the bobbies, the blood and gore and the just as repetitive combat system (why does no one ever remember to mention that if you don't play a melee class its exactly like any other mmo btw?) as any other mmo.

The fact is that very few people are leaving because of unstable servers, bugs or unfinished content. Most people leave because the game is boring and shallow.

Activision is an amazing company, a really good partner for Blizzard. What most people don't realize is that blizzard has always always been part of another company.

what exactly is your guild progressing towards?

well if you have had funcom shares I hope you have sold months ago, if not you better do so as quickly as you can.

you have to realize that while this fraud gave them more money it also cost them a lot more money. Funcom has had 100-150 people working on AoC for the last 3 years and then it's the massive advertising bills (the only reason the game sold at all I might add) to pay.

I personally really do hope Funcom goes bankrupt since it would serve as a warning to others who would do shit like this in the future.

you're actually thinking of buying AoC? now, after 90% of the people that bought it have left in disgust, now you are thinking its time to buy this piece of shit? ok I guess some people just like buying really bad mmo's.

Dark & Light was a minor release, it didn't promise the sky like vanguard and aoc did and so it can't really be compared.

Also worth mentioning that you should not buy this piece of fraud.

Honestly Funcom is the new SOE if anything, they latest efforts of SOE has actually be quite positive.

Well - this is what I would expect people to be doing with the game less than two months old. I personally am giving the game atleast 3 months of my time before I give it up for dead, you have to admit the game is very promising, judging they deliver on ther promises that they have... promised?

I thought the game had a lot of promise as well. But, as I've played it, I think I'm starting to realize that the way the game is designed, even if everything that has been promised was in the game and/or worked, the experience would still be shallow - too shallow for an MMO in my opinion.
The game really doesn't do anything that differently from other games, and some things it does either worse, or less.
I hope it will improve, but even if everything was "working as intended", it would still be just average, given the intention of the design.

yay congratulations, and I really do mean that. Perhaps AoC will serve a purpose to make people realize that it wasn't just boobies and decapitations that they were missing from Wow. AoC is indeed flawed at its very core, the design of the game is bad not just the execution. All the poor execution of the game did was let it die more rapidly then it would have otherwise.

I still think that Funcom realized this since before launch and decided that they might as well just finish the first 20 levels, release, sell high numbers and then leech the game for as long as it makes any money. They have already made a profit of this game I am sure so good work fanboys you can look forward to another rip off in the near future.

yep that is indeed bs, what funcom is doing is called a cover up.

So much hate, so much hate and bitterness.
I don't hate the haters though - they just want the next big thing. They want to be addicted and immersed and a part of some mmorpg that has a buzz about it - a buzz that is retained beyond one month. They want to feel in control and they want to feel connected to a community of shared interest.
I think AOC is ok. I play casual as I'm busy. It has quests (gather, check, kill) like most other mmos, its has character customization, class and race choices etc. To hate it is to hate all fantasy mmos, no? There is nothing there to make it grossly better or worse than any other mmo. It seems pretty standard to my eyes. I enjoy it (for now) for the same reason I enjoyed other mmos: it feels a little more "real" and "connected" than single-player non-mmos.
Yes, that's it. I think the hate is against all fantasy mmos. I got mates who quit AOC and returned to WOW, City of Villians and EVE. They didn't like going back to those games, they just preferred some minor aspect of those games to AOC. Conversely, other mates have stuck with AOC, again for relatively minor attachments and preferences.
I prefer AOC, at least the content is new. But everything else just feels same old, same old. Maybe mmo's in general have a limited burn. After a time you become immune to the usual hooks of mmos? The first time I ever played an mmo, it was fricken amazing - I know I will never get that initial buzz back again and that's just life.
Do we expect too much? Maybe the hardcore mmo-ers need a second hobby in order to "keep it real"? I recommend fly-fishing and DIY for the crafter/gatherers, kick-boxing for the pvpers, and comic books/cool toys for the "exclusive gear" junkies. Oh, and for the "open world exploration" junkies, a 3 month camping trip in Asia or South America ;)
Peace out
Melmoth

Yes I do think that peoples expectations are to high these days but that does not apply to AoC. AoC deserves everything they are getting, honestly I wish funcom would be arrested and put in jail for fraud.

lol got to love funcom, they had a board meeting and decided that it was the mature content that was the reason they had no subs hahaha that was the only thing they had going for them.

yes I am sure that's it funcom, not the horribly unfinished game and all the massive limitations that makes AoC hardly qualify as an mmo at all, no it was the mature content damit!

but still I think its unfair to say that they are betraying their subs that is like cheating with another woman when your single. You need one for the other to be possible.

People said the game was great, and got explained that sure the game is good up to lvl 20, then it sucks.
Well I've had fun past 20 as well, there's been enough questing to do, and although PvP xp hasn't been enabled, it's still fun to PvP.
Then didn't someone say: - just wait till you get past lvl 40 and see how shallow the game is.
Well, I'm now lvl 47, - I don't level fast, I'm more the casual player that can be offline for a day or 2 or 3 - and at this point I'm now really starting to feel that I'm playing an mmorpg:
- the levels doesn't come as fast anymore, naturally since it's higher lvl. I still haven't run out of quests, like I got the impression from others that I would. It hasn't been necessary to grind at all yet. It will be interesting to see if this continues past lvl 50 and up.
I trust less and less what other people tell me about the game, and more and more what I actually experience in it myself.
As for the bugs they have been very few, I've so far had 3-4 quest related bugs. One of them was serious in that I got stuck in a single player mode, but I contactd customer support, and that seemed to help. The other quests, I've been told can be done by entering epic mode when you enter the area.
There have been some bugs with grouping/guild windows, but it usually gets fixed after staying online for a certain amount of time.
As for the the customer service, I guess they are a little short handed, but my actual experience is this:
I petitioned a quest problem, about 1-2 hours later a GM appeared, - this isn't too unusual time compared to WoW, that I've also played and they took about the same time more or less -
the GM was friendly and helpful, and solved my problem in a few minutes, and that was that.
Since I started playing back at 17. may, I've only experienced serious disconnecting problems on 2 days, fearly recent. One of them they had to take the server down, the other they managed to have it online. A little annoying ofc, but only 2 days of 1,5 month of playing after release. Nothing game breaking for me anyway.
There are still occasional lagspikes, I have no idea what causes it, but I think it has to do with the server/gameclient, cause many are experiencing them, they only last for a couple seconds normally. So the important thing is that they don't interupt gameplay significantly. I'm not sure of the exact intervalls, but maybe every 30 min or so, maybe more rare. I hardly notice them most of the time.

So all in all I'm really starting to enjoy AoC, and this just goes to prove, - for me anyways - that if you want to find out wether a game is gonna be fun for you or not, you have to try it yourself. You can't have other people doing it for you.
So if you want to try AoC I would recommend it, - if you don't want to risk wasting money, wait for the buddy keys to be enabled, but realise that that might take a long time. I preordered the game, and I still see no signs of buddy keys I can share.
I get the feeling that this game might suit the casual player more, since it is faster leveling.
And although people have said that it's PvE focused, I still get the feeling it's more of a PvP game, with the more hands-on combat and fast leveling.
Well I'll stop here before this turns into another review
But remember, don't let anyone else but you make up your mind about a game you haven't tried yourself yet

well its nice that they can satisfy at least the most casual of gamers, because that's also about all they seem to be able to satisfy.

WoW had 1.5 millions 4 months after relase. AoC already has 700k after 1 month. Impressive! I did not expect to see a WoW killer that soon!

Great work FC!

you obviously don't know anything about the mmo market now or then, WoW more then tripled the existing market and for AoC to do what WoW did they would need 30 million subscriptions. The other obvious thing is that AoC's sales are already slowing down and will soon come to a complete halt, the other thing is that only around 10% of those that have bought AoC have signed up for an ongoing subscription past the 30 day free.

Blizzard was never worried about AoC and as the record shows the didn't need to be either, if they had been they would have released Wotlk 1 month before AoC as they did with TBC to defuse Vanguard (which in the end they didn't need to do), instead they are holding wotlk for War and it does look like Blizzard has once again outplayed all its opponents.

maybe because most people don't want to pay monthly for AoC when they can get a deeper experience from none sub games like CoD4?

If it had released as a 100% finished game it would only have increased its self life until the end of the year. Because at its very core AoC is extremely flawed and limited and was doomed to die out anyway. Perhaps that is what funcom realized and decided to get the money from retail sales and not waste more time in development.

It was at like 9.4 two weeks after launch, but I totally agree with the OP this game was shit from the start just took the "special" people a bit longer to figure that out. It's dropping and will drop of the top 5 all together very soon.

Seriously, to all the whiners out there you really need to get a move on, and actually accept that there ARE plenty of people enjoying the game despite all issues - which I don't really find that major.
You bought the game, you signed an agreement, you didn't like it. Is that Funcom's fault? No.
So, find a game to your liking or do something else.

AoC is interesting in that it has something both for the haters and the lovers, but focusing on the dislikes only wont make you want to play the game any more...

FunCON promised, lied, will let you play to have an open Alpha experience...

... lifted the money from people in playing a bunch of crap and still .... you want to defend it???
How about those stupid enough to have invested 400 to 800 dollars to upgrade their computers with the result of having an end game battle at 5 FPS with a complete broken siege system?
Just HOW much WORSE a computer game must be developped before you think about us the normal working heroes who actualy pay for unfinshed games ???
So you "signed an agreement"? Does that make up for it ???
LOL

Ok so you think the game is crap, that's YOUR opinion.
Try accepting that other players might not agree with you on that? To me the game isn't crap even in it's current state, I happen to enjoy my AoC experience alot!
And as for those "stupid" enough to invest in a better rig - I was planning to do the same thing, but was "smart" enough to try the game before I made a decision about upgrading my machine.
So "stupid" gets what "stupid" deserves.
If you sign an agreement then how is that Funcom's fault you didn't like it? I don't get that.
What I do get is that I enjoy the game, and instead of bitching back and forth on some forum I'm gonna go play it instead.
So long suckers!

Ok so you like the game, that is YOUR opinion, my lord some people are so stupid they contradict themselves. What gives you the right to tell him that he has no right to voice his opinion?

Seriously you AoC fanboy cry babies better just get used to that 90% of the people that bought AoC fell ripped off.
