Well I heard a interesting argument from a WoW-Hater on these boards, referring to the idea that WoW isn’t a RPG because nobody Role Plays.

I understand that, by using the word NOBODY, the person was really meaning “Not Most”. And I would agree with that. But only WoW? How many other MMORPGs out there have a community made up of mostly Role Players?

The way I look at this term, (Role Playing Game), doesn’t deal with Role Playing a character, but developing a character.

 

What many people on these forums misunderstand is that RPG means it is a system with progressive character advancement, not a means of people roleplaying in the game.

This is why, Gameplay should always come over Story.

Developing a MMORPG game which the main feature is it's story, leads to doom or niche.

Not going the name the MMO I am referring to, but I will let you figure that out on your own.

I actually disagree with you on both here. I think they both should be equal. Great story and great gameplay. I myself still do roleplay in MMOs from time to time to this day. As do many I'm sure. Most of them don't say much because they don't see threads like this to be of importance. They think differently, always has been that way.

But my top three are IGN, MMORPG.com and  addictoffiction.com ( addict of fiction is new, but so far an awesome start ) , Great conversations in my opinion. good or bad. either way, some great minds for sure.

Well, I will just say this. Sure, majority rules. But you can look at this both ways. There was another group of people who DID want the real ID and other things in the game. And blizzard thrashed it. So in my opinion, no, they did not listen to the community. Again thoiugh that is just my opinion. That is also if you are going off the majority rules bit too.

ya know what now that i think of it. it probably will be better with out half of you in the game.

They are giving you two options.

REAL ID and NON REAL ID posts.

has nothing to do with parental controls. it's just like in game. you can add characters to your friends list, but if you know their email, you can add their real id . Same concept on the forums. Just you choose what to post with.

I thought MMORPG.com forums were horrid community wise.... then I think back to the WoW forums, ugh.

I believe at first it will have a positive effect on the content of peoples posts, but then people will get used to it and start not caring again.

A person is best judged by the choices they make when no one is watching. The mature, level headed, balanced and reasonable posters will continue to be so, and those less then mature, level headed, balanced, and reasonable will continue to be once the shock of using their real name wears off.

You see the same kind of social behavior in bars. The obnoxious people might be less obnoxious and more reserved around new people, but once they get comfortable its back to being who they are.

This.  ... seriously, there isn't a whole lot more I can add.

you don't - have - to pay a game subscription ... you - can - pay for the time you use though.

*sigh* the only reason why people like me enjoyed the subscription based is because - normally - parents thought twice about having their children play a game that is paid monthly. So really now IMO, the game may be attracting a lot of trash players. Oh well, easier wins for the agencies on top eh?

Now I' not saying it wasn't a good Idea, it's just a win lose for me no matter how you look at it.
