Torrenting itself is not illegal and several legal files can be torrented as well.

True, WoW and other games use torrents to distribute their updates/patches.

This is 100% correct. You are an absolute fool if you really do think torrenting is that bad. Why? That's like your friend handing you a cd he just bought, and put on his computer so you can now put it on yours. Illegal?  I don't think so. Same thing as some one letting you "borrow" that CD. I hate to say it, but since the invention of the internet, anything you create or do will always be some where else, even if it is your own personal information.

Also agreeing with this person here, WoW is not the only game to use torrents in their patches. Before putting piracy and torrenting in the same category, you really should look at the fact that the only way the game will actually run is with the code. Granted , not all single player games have codes. But I guess you would have thought by now they would make personal cd - keys for each disc if they were that concerned with it. Which is true and a valid argument.

In my opinion , torrenting and stealing are completely different. Now if you are going to crack a code, that is now considered stealing. It's how it works. In other words, you illegally, cracked a code that was put on that cd for a reason.

EDIT: He probably didn't get banned for saying "torrenting" , may have been for something else. But either way, who knows. Although I would agree since the game isn't public yet, that would be a bad thing to say. :)

either way - I agree with the father. Seeing how I am a parent, you can bet sure as hell that I will never let my children play this game. Although I have played this , they will not for sure after my experiences - this is possibly the absolute worse community for MMO's out there.

Worst: WOW

Since there is so much undeserved crap being thrown at this game here i just wanna say this game is great.

It is the only F2P mmo that i havent uninstalled after an hour and ive tried 10+ F2P mmos. At the moment im having way more fun with my 20/20 warrior/scout than i do with my boring legendary 6800gs Deathknight in wow.

I agree as well  - very awesome F2P game. I highly reccommend it to anyone who is just looking to try something new.

If none of those games peaked your interest as a couple, I think maybe it is time to then drop the MMO bit as a couple : /.

One thing I will suggest though as a couple for gaming - My wife and I plan on playing Fable III on the xbox together. They actually have a couple system which is really wicked. and everything you have asked for is in that game. Part of it is online - but mostly a co op lush rich story. You can sell weapons and such online though with the game - not all the details though have been provided seeing how the game is not out yet :(

I do suggest though you guys check it out. IT will be a great game. Link on this website here. ( first one I found lol )

We will probably try it since we love the Fable saga. Did not know Fable 3 had some online components.

Thanks for the advice.

And for the rest, keep it coming.

Yeah - It's actually going to be a blast :)

Seems like a lame sci-fi attempt at Oblivion, but gone horrifically wrong.

the UI is horried. the gameplay is very crappy.

And the Animations are a immersion breaker. (Yes I know Oblivion had the same animations, but Oblivion was Fantasy theme, and made up for it in other areas)

Maybe I am not giving Fallout a chance. is it really worth while to keep playing it?

Iam tired of the long dialogs, and want some gameplay action.

In my opinion I think you need to play the fall out series.. 1 & 2 - sure horrible graphics , great for it's time though. I also think maybe you should try out new vegas when released.

I am right there on the same page with you. But I never really gave fall out a chance until recently. The thing is , is that it really isn't all about the mechanics when it comes to bethesda games ... it's the story.

I really wish I could help. but I literally have so much going on now that I don't think I would be able to find the time to read a good sci fi novel :(. I do however write my own articles and reviews for gaming on other websites and such - not here due to all the rediculous flaminf. *ahem*

Sorry :( - If someone else though from my studio is willing too, I will send them your way. I'll ask at the next meeting I hold.( of course if you haven't found someone already. )

This is actually why I have been debating on quitting. Because if you are a new player - that stuff really does happen , often ... which is why they normally quit before level 10.

i lasted til 30 lol, i just can't get into it for some reason and been playing MMOs since asherons call and so on...but oh well it's all about the personal experience i guess :)

asherons call was an amazing game :) .  Yeah - really to me what it is , people in WoW honestly do not care about each other .... at all. It's a dog eat dog world.

agree 100% with kryogenic. What the heck DO you want the game to be people????

There are many reasons to hate Blizzard.

This is not one of them. This is not a big deal, and it is perfectly acceptable to show them your ID, just as you show your ID to many other businesses. I wouldn't mind it we needed to provide our ID to subscribe to games in the first place.

This. I agree with this. It isn't a big deal - at all and I don't see why people are uproaring about it.  Really I guess all i can say is, if you are that fanatic about it , you probably shouldn't be playing any online games period.

Again, I think it's funny how people think they are safe on the internet. Blizzard doesn't even need your personal information. The only reason why they are asking for it, is for the safety that your account isn't being cancelled by some one else or a hacker of sorts. Think of it from their side, so many people have been hacked recently, how do they know it's really you?

Trust goes both ways here. Something else to keep in mind. Even on these forums your not safe, browsing the internet, you are not safe. If you think you are, that's a joke. If a criminal hacker really wanted something, they will get it - no matter what.

Granted now, this is your choice. I am not you, but you can do what you want and how you want too. I though will always trust blizzard period. To me, the Real ID was going to finally be able to police people.

Tons of people say "Well why not just slap a "troll" on their name and be done with it." Well because they won't be done with it. The only real way to get people to stop doing what they do is to literally put out their real name. This way, people can not act foolish in a game that is supposed to be an rpg, yet the rp got left out and is now just a worse version of real life.

To me, and in all honesty, I was for Real ID because I knew not only would half of the Bsers out there quit, but so would a lot of the spoiled players too. Looks like it's already started.

From an article at Elder Game, this quote:

Mike Morhaime (president of Blizzard) said the following about World of Warcraft:

“Our research shows that trial players who play World Of Warcraft past level 10 are much more likely to stick with the game for a long time. Currently, only about 30% of our trial players make it past this threshold.”

This astounds me, not because WoW loses such a larger percentage of new players, but because of the massive numbers that have to be involved. These are free trials, evidently, so it's probably different for those who alreay bought the game. (I didn't know WoW had free trials.)

Now, the article makes this point:

Morhaime went on to talk about how they intend to use the upcoming Cataclysm expansion to improve this number, but at the moment I am more interested in the number itself. Most of the comments I’ve seen today focus on how terrible it is: OMG, 70% of trial players quit before level 10! That’s … that’s … awful! WoW is dying! Blizzard, do something!

Except it’s not terrible. It’s amazing. A five year old game, content that for the most part hasn’t been touched at all in five years, and three out of ten free trial players are putting in the 4+ hours of gameplay to get to level 10? (Remember, a new player will take longer to level than an experienced WoW-hand.) And for many players, that four hours is going to be more than one play session, which means that they have to remember to come back. Amazing.

I don't agree that it's not awful. In comparison, maybe it's not, but when you stop to think that so many people who were interested enough in the first place to even try it out, decided they didn't like it,... that's awful.

So, game developers, maybe all of us players around here calling for "something different" aren't such a small minority after all?

Of course, I think most game developers know this. But they aren't making the money decisions. They also probably don't know exactly what that "something different" is.

For those of us who are still looking, lets not give up hope. The facts are out there. If we can convince "them", someone, where the next gen of gaming needs to go and how it needs to be done, I'm sure they have an ear open for it.

and this is technically why they are revamping everything and their mother in cataclysm. - a whole new game so they don't lose more people.

Yeah, the balance is all shot to hell. I play in a small group that I've been gaming with for years and we get consistently and totally beaten pretty much all the time because of the number of upgrades that people seem to have.

You are getting out played, but blaming mods that have margional impacts.

I agree with bloodworth here. I'm rank 87 and owning people who are way higher rank than me. Play smart, it's a game, figure it out. It's not "impossible" , it really rally isn't.  If you aren't have fun figuring out a game, and just expecting yourself to sit there, and run and gun and own everything while having a 10% chance of hitting everything - then this is not your game - at all.

so, do you not like the game? or you do? I'm currently confused at the moment. was this just a short review informing new players?

On an off note: Have any of the MMO-watching newsfolk compiled a list of companies and their stances on privacy? After Blizzard's spectacular trust fail, I'm pretty wary of all my existing titles right now. I'm reconsidering some of the ones I have, waiting to see what they have to say on the whole thing.

Anyway. Here's what I'm looking for, anybody know if it exists?

Non co-dependant: Doesn't force you to group, but lets you group with people whose company you actually enjoy.

Non-frenetic: None of that glued-to-the-keyboard 'OMG!' stuff. Skill is good but so is taking a breath and taking a break. Examples of bad: FFXI (OMG DON'T BREAK CHAIN!) Puzzle Pirates (NO bathroom breaks till we get Kraken's Blood or it's the plank for you!) Action is good but it shouldn't be a huge big deal to look away from the screen or get out of your chair for a few minutes once in a while.

Relaxing: Has some options for just vegging out, like a crafting system or things to gather, for times when I'm burnt from work. But also has plenty of exciting things for when relaxing = making things die.

Easy on the camera: Camera angles are good, but my best playmate has a hard time with the ultra-3D stuff, like the EvE camera swing (which is the least of my problems with that game). 3D is good, but if it swings around too fast she's gonna get motion sick.

Pretty but not overworked: There's a balance to be struck between beautiful scenery and unnecessary video-card-dragging effects. I don't need the horse to be sparkly and have  a cascading particle effect, thanks. But I love me a good sunset.

Can be played in short chunks or long stretches: Sometimes I've got an hour or two. Sometimes I've got all weekend. If I have to travel 30 minutes to get to somewhere to even START playing, that's a dealbreaker. If I can't safely log out within 20 minutes of my blackberry going off, that's a dealbreaker too.

And here's the big one: It's possible to find pleasant people there. I really can't slog through hordes of 'STFU NOOB!' anymore. I get enough to threaten my ability to withstand humanity in my daily work, I don't need more of it at home. I don't mind the adrenaline junkie kids, as long as I can steer clear of them. I do mind when it starts looking like people with minds and manners have gone extinct. As long as I'm likely to run into one or two of them once in a while, I'm good with it.

Any suggestions?

Honestly? It sounds to me you need to find a new gnre of game. The MMO genre has turned into exactly that thing you really do not want to touch or handle. So I do understand your pain. Just a thought - But you would probably be better off playing on a console or a table top form of game.

I'm pretty much straight PC. I like the PS3, but sadly it is not my cup of tea.
