SWG Pre-NGE was a sandbox MMO.

SWTOR is a themepark MMO.

Those who yearn for a sandbox type of MMO and dislike themepark MMO's won't enjoy SWTOR.

So the people saying that this was common knowledge already unless people were living under a rock, and that there\s little resemblance between SWG's design model and SWTOR's design model, only that the setting is Star Wars, were right.

This si teh most important thing to say here.... from what i have seen (wink wink) if you arent a fan of themeparks or you really only want to relive your fun from SWG. you will be extremely dissapointed.... you absolutely have to go into this game with a fresh mind or you are ruined from the start.......

One thing i would liek to say is that as much as i absolutely loved SWG, SWG was never really a star wars game!! It was an awesome sanbox game set in an IP that generated great comunities that wanted to live in that IP. but it really didnt have the core essence of Star Wars....

you know, it hurt my heart the other day when i thought about the fact that i can never log into this game again. i really would have liked to fly my millenium falcon one more time. ride around on my speeders and let me toon set, watching tatooines suns! im gonna miss this game, but it is time. I pray that develpoers have learned from the mistakes of this game, and have also learned what people were so passionate about in this game... no matter what happend to it, it was still one of the best games and communites ive ever played in and will always have a very close place in my heart!

May the force be with you SWG!!

They should never have caved over the gays for god sake it's a game and the star wars universe where there are no gays in the lore they will breakback mountain the damn thing

Maybe you should go back and read about the lore before making a foul of yourself!

Bioware said that the game was to reflect the movies. There are no gays in any of the movies. I know people like to stretch and say Juhani was gay from KOTOR 1, because of same dialogue that was uniform regardless of the sex of your character but that is all debatable in my opinion; especially seeing as there was no actual relationship option. Secondarily, yes I know about the two Mandolorian characters, but that's really it, and that's a very very small portion of the Star Wars universe. It's nowhere near as prevalent as Bioware or the loud minority is making it out to be.

Using the "lore" to support your rampant homophobia is weak.  Just because they don't mention homosexuals in the stories, doesn't mean there were none in the universe.  If the ancient Greeks practiced same-sex relationships, why would it not happen in a technologically advanced society? Really, people, admit your own insecurities as such.  That can be respected a bit more than hiding behind the lore to give weight to them.

you cant use real life of the greeks to compare to an intelectual property. the only way to know if there were homosexuals in teh star wars universe is to ask George Lucas. Other then that, there are no legs to stand on.

good points, and straight up! i always like when people have teh balls to put the truth in laymans terms.

i think it shows more then anything that people arent willing to pay for teh sub games that are out, because they arent as innovative....... i for one am not a fan of items shops because of the unfair advantages they pose.

I dont understand. The stats on pvp and operations gear is high so that you can be competitive in both. But if youre not going to do either of those types of content, why do you need the gear used to compete in it? Besides, the crafted gear is just one level below the operations gear, which is on par with flashpoint gear. Both of which are powerful enough to easily explore without fear of being stomped on by anything out in the world.

you know, i was thinking the same thing. if your a solo player i can see being upset that there is no solo endgame content. Im actually a bit annoyyed about that myself... but...... if you dont like to play with others, then your not going to pvp or raid... so what is teh point of havign teh best gear when your not really going to use it for its intended purpose?

I try to write this as neutral and as friendly as I am capable. I try to avoid a certain topic, which only will cause a flamewar. I will not speak about the reasons, just how I feel, because spending in this game community for 5 years I feel I have to share this with you.

Since 2008, I followed the making of SWTOR. I read every post many times, I analyzed every picture, I watched every video many times. Being a huge fan of Star Wars and Bioware RPGs, despite all small things I did not like, I was greatly looking forward to SWTOR, and I honestly felt, it would be a dream of a lifetime of gaming. Yes I know some of you may not see me that way, because I critizised some things and went mad at others, but I always kept a great love and hope for this game.

Now things have transpired. And these 3 days have been bad. I know you may say, pathetic, how can one cling so to a mere MMORPG that it affects him so. Sorry. But so it is. I spent the last 3-4 days all on the official SWTOR forum, renewing the Dev Tracker every hour, thinking this must be a mistake. It must be a dream. It is just some small error! And all will be made good soon. But now, after 4 days of silence I realize. It is the truth.

We. Do. Not. Exist. In Star Wars. It is a world where love is only for you, and for us.

I do not want to discuss the reasons or the validity. Following the short and soon locked discussion here on this forum and seeing the replies has disheartened me further. I never thought a MMO forum was a place for idealists. But it was even for my cold and old heart a cut. The scorn, the mockery, the acidic comments.

And there I stand, looking at a place that does not want me. That wants me and all of my kind out, away, invisible, and 1000s of people clap and hurrah and this. I always wonder what we did that some hate us so much, when all we wanted was the same acceptance for love as you have for you. And I look at a hobby, that was supposed to make me feel better as escapism from a hard life, and now all the darknes and scorn and strife from RL has caught up with the hobby I so used to love and I see, there is no place to escape for the likes of me. And what shall I do? Leave behind the hobby I love because some people meet my kind with hate and mockery only?

But that you, Bioware, of all people left us in the rain, that hurt me. Like some familar friend out of the blue stabbed me in the back.

Laugh about it all you must. It is always easy to laugh about someone.

A friend of mine, who stopped playing games 2 years ago, sent me this cartoon with the words: This is why I stopped playing Online Games.

I can't laugh about it. Because it is way too true.

http://theoatmeal.com/comics/online_gaming

The worst thing of it all is, that we can't even discuss it, despite the fact that this is a forum supposed to discuss, because a handful acidic & mean people will flame and troll until all discussions are destroyed and all threads are closed. And I know they always win. I am old enough to understand that.

Still I have to leave this message here, whatever may come afterwards.

Thanks.

Dont worry. the time will come. The powers that be just havent let go of certain things yet. i remember two years ago when there would be avid conversations on these forums about having dark skin for more ethnic diversity. What would kill me is that there were people here who didnt understand that people who arent white might want to be ble to make a toon in there likeness, same as them...... but now its coming around more in video games. so hopefully it will come around soon for homosexuality. i wouldnt let it ruin your game play though. Immature players are a part of MMO's now and they will flame all day becaus ethere are no ramifications. They more then likely wouldnt say any of these things face to face.

i remember during teh NGE days when SOE would have there summits. i went to one in ATL and these other kids who were avid flammers of me on teh forums came past me, and all of a sudden we were buddies... im not going to explain how that conversation went but i can tell you that they never spoke to me like that again, lol...

so dotn sweat it. Say what you feel needs to be said for teh better of gaming!

No cross server communication... WTF!?

This is awful. So they are going to punish the whole playerbase because of the worst of the bunch out of fear of potential greifing? LAME!

Everyone speaks a common language in Star Wars. So much for the lore... This really kills the immersion. Imagine Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader having no idea what the other is saying. Welcome to SWTOR.

This is a bad sign. I hope they change their minds.

lol i dont see teh big deal at all. think about what you just said " so much for the Lore".... if you can chat with the opposing faction though local chat, or /say, that should be more then enough..... and they say that you can. so whats the big deal... i liek that fact that asshats cant site there in global chat talking nonsense all day to the opposing side. Its bad enough what you get to see on just your side....

if anyone doesnt liek that, its more then likely you the ones who write the horrible messages to the opposing side, lol

i think the score will totally depend on the story... the story telling in the quests is what is making the difference in the game. what i mean by  this is, when i play any game out today and im doing quests, 9 tiems out of ten im not reading the quests story, and if i do read it, nothing is happeneing in teh text that is making me feel immersed into the situation..... What bioware is doing with story( if done right) will make me feel immersed into what is happening and really part of each quest. If they can pull this off with even half the people who play it, the game will be a success... if they cant pull that off, then it will probably fail its expectations..... Also they will have to switch up on the type of quests that everyone is doing as they progress through the game. if they can keep the gameplay feeling dynamic, then i think they have a winner here.... the story telling pillar could be the thing that can save end game for themeparks. I personally really want to play, but im keeping an open mind here, because for me, most endgame in themeparks fail if they dont have any dynamics gameplay.

i think in this day in age, raiding has become unpopular because it really hasn't evolved.... the AI does the same things... its normally one huge mob vs 25 people.... and rinse and repeat the exact same thing all over again... Nothing dynamic, nothing that changes... It has gotten boring point blank???

i would really hope that when i play this game that a dynamic endgame would be there. this is the major problem with themepark games. Endgame is always the same old monotonous process. i really do hope they can do something better then whats already been done. i would hope that they can chaneg teh processes of the raids, and pvp and add some thing new with this mystery endgame of theres. If not... sadly this game will not keep the numbers its hoping for for long.

can you guys give me an idea of what this game is like from a core gameplay perspective.

1. is there any questing? any video footage of questing?

2. Does the game have a story arch?

3. Does the core game play perspectiev resemble darkfall, meaning its just log in and level by killing random mobs and building your community?

At teh end of teh day i just want to know if this is fully sandbox or has some themepark integration in it ala SWG did.

Yeah... im going to have to agree with teh op here. this game is promising, but the content is just so easy to breeze through, and top with the fact that the endgame is so monotonous, it makes it tough to hang on to this game if you are not a casual player........ anyone who has more then three 3 hours a day to spare for this game, and like variety would definitely find it hard to stay after a while...... it

Open world PVP is a gateway for griefing. that has been made very clear by every game in recent history that does it. i think to the level that archage is doing open world pvp, there will definitely be griefing. having a jail system will not stop the fact that someone has lost invested time and items from getting griefed in the first place...... To some this is not a big deal... but i will put money on it that most gamers dont like open world pvp for griefing reasons. Overall PVP is always best when it can be controlled. There are too many people in the mmo world who love making other gamers miserable.... and thats a fact!

im definitely interested in this game but after playing AOC and Darkfall, i can say that the cons of open world pvp can decrease a games population very fast.

my heart will always have a place in SWG. RIP

to be honest, i think the same way on most games i see. everythign looks different when your not teh oen doing it to me. Another thing i will say is this. The devs suck at playing that game.. I have seen player  videos of beta doing much better then the devs ever do! for those two reasons, i will reserve my opinion on teh combat truly until i play it for myself!

u know i never comment on these forums anymore, and i hardly ever read these forums anymore. the reason why i have chosen to do so is because there is alot of negitivity for every game u see. Alot of people going against what teh OP wrote in this thread Can be trailed back to doing exactly what he is talking about... not all of u, but most of you..... The fact is that it makes for a very unhealthy community. I remember a long time ago thsi place used to be a place where u could get really good info on games whether bad or good from people who had weighed teh pros and cons. Now you just see people giving false info, or opinios thats werent really thought through, or just saying things because they want to create animosity amongst others in teh community! They thrive off of it. Its a bad weed!! If this game isnt for you then fine, but this community would be much better off if other readers here didnt just come in and badmouth a game every chance they get because they have personal feelings about it. Its plain old childish..

So much complaining still...why can't you all just learn to adapt to new styles of play in different games instead of constantly demanding this silly industry standard BS or that everything mirrors and plays exactly like WoW or else...

You are either very disillusioned or just flat our not reading what I have said, and what many agree on me with.

If SE is going for 2 hours of great leveling every 48 hours as a "different style," then by golly they achieved it. I'm not going to type all of the other issues I have with XIV again, because, obviously, you're glossing over them and calling out the overused "adapt to new styles of gameplay."

I've been playing MMOs for close to 13 years now. I played FFXI before it even hit North America and was Japan only. I can adapt to new styles of gameplay, but the absolute atrocious mechanics that are in the game right now need an overhaul. Oh, what the hell, let me review them again. Combat is fine (except targetting with cure/buff spells -- literally impossible to do -- it doesn't let you unless you leave combat), but Leves are not fine at all (Crafting is fine for me once they fix the horrible delay with it.)

@Jadan's post - I hate to disregard something on the basis of spelling, but an entire post by a user that cannot properly type the word "the" and "this" needs to be retyped then resubmitted. Then I may take him or her seriously.

if you chose to miss the point of my thread because of my spelling, thats your own business. As long as others here arent that thick headed and get it, im ok. Next time ill be sure not to type on my phone for your intellectual convenience.
