Thread, hilarious much backpeddling, sad.

It's fun to watch people who cry troll get left with egg on their face.

Sorry, but some mistakes are unforgivable.

Thats a childish viewpoint for a GAME.

No, it's the same grown up viewpoint that most customers have towards any company and its products. I fail to see why games should be treated any differently. I notice on this site that many posters have a negative view of EA. Would you consider them childish by refusing to pay for any EA products? I wouldn't. Clearly they have a beef with EA and are exercising their right as consumers by not giving them money. If you're okay with companies screwing you over  and providing shoddy service then be my guest. But don't belittle others for not taking it.

Their biggest failure occured long before shutdown.

Exactly. That was back in November of 2005 when SOE implemented the WOW patch and pissed all over their loyal fans.To add insult to injury, you had SOE spokespeople that pretty much belittled the fans of their game for not liking what they did. When you treat your fans in such a crappy manner, you guarentee them of never returning no matter how many carrots you dangle in front of them. That's just Customer Service 101.

The shutdown last year was just anti-climatic. We all knew it was going to happen it was only a question of when. And I still haven't played an SOE game to this day and I likely never will.

Oh FFS....

Please get over the Pre-CU FTW or Pre-Patch 9 FTW or even Pre-NGE/Post CU FTW crap.

It was Old in 2008.

Get over it? I did. I no longer give SOE anymore money. Judging by the state of their MMOs I'd say I'm not the only one.

Anyways, the title of the thread is "Was shutting down SWG LA's biggest failure yet?" That opens up other possible answers.

Who can ever forget this ....

Sorry, but I don't put much stock in "analysts." These are the same bozos that are always making economic and budget predictions for our government that always turn out being false.

SWG did have a loyal fanbase and was a succes at release.

....and then SOE pissed on the loyal fanbase with the NGE. Not to mention they lied about what they were doing for months. What a great company.

VAnguard was an EA production all the way. SOE only bought the game when EA stopped developing it.  SAdly they never invested in finishing it.

And this counters my argument how?

DCUO is probably the best action MMORPG aropund right now.

That very few play.

The tefth of personal data, will and has happened to almost all other big players.

No it hasn't.

SOE is not better, nor worse then all the other big players. But they have also the longest learning curve, and are still improving despite their mistakes in the past.

Sorry, but some mistakes are unforgivable.

I know people will boo and hiss, but SOE has said they'd like to revist the sandbox genre now that they've lost SWG.  SOE of all the MMO companies do have a more varried variety of MMO's compared to most.  They have their WoW cookiee cutters (EQ/EQ2) but then they have some that are quite different, like Planetside.

Couple things here...

1.) Everquest was NOT a WOW cookie cutter. Everquest came out long before WOW did. Plus Everquest 2 launched around the same time as World of Warcraft did.

2.)  After SWG, Matrix Online,Vanguard ,DC Universe Online, and the theft of personal data debacle, I don't see why anyone would give SOE their money.

As a player that plays a tank, I say no. Granted, I'm a juggernaught and can't speak for the other tank specced classes as I haven't played them. But my juggernaught does really well in PVP. Far as the sorcerors go, the ones that I see that actually knew how to play their class are still having fun playing them. The ones pissed about the changes are angry because they can't faceroll people anymore, which is not what healers should be doing anyway.

I'm sorry that some people don't like this game. I am even more sorry that they feel the need to try to convince others not to like it.

It's a good game for people that like any of the following:

1) Good storytelling

2) Starwars

3) Classic MMO gameplay with a few twists

4) Sci-fi

5) Have more money than sense

Not good for people that:

1) Grind content as fast as possible

2) Don't like cutscenes or story

3) Demand new gameplay while being upset if old gameplay is missing

4) Have a bias against EA/Bioware

5) Have no money to spend on a monthly fee

That being said, anyone in the second group has every right to feel the way they do. I just wish they didn't think it was their personal mission to make others agree with them.

/fixed

soon you will be this guy - A big supporter of SWTOR to quit it and move on. Only a matter of time.

When playing SWG I avoided these MMORPG forums mostly and just stuck to the official forums where payiong players were only able to post - too many people bashing on SWG on these forums

Love your fix there...either your broke or stupid huh. So which one are you, the one that is stupid, or the one that can't aford Ramen Noodles?

Part I find ironic is that if you were smart, you would have more money to spend on your games. Kind of makes your theory all jacked up doesn't it.

Yeah, if 15 dollars a month stretches someone's  pocketbook then perhaps that person should be spending more time finding a real job than gaming. That's been the going rate on MMOs for as long as I can remember.

Glad that you are enjoying your time back, however I wouldn't be holding my breath on player housing or anything else that you like from SWG making an appearance in this game. Bioware has made it very clear that this is not going to be that type of game. Just saying.

I don't know what it was, but last night was really tough. I've had no problems with the game running on my computer up to now, but last night for some reason I got kicked off twice and suffered some lag spikes. I hope those new kinks got ironed out when I go home to play tonight.

EA sounds like I did as a teenager when I got busted with beer and playboys in my room.

Tsk Tsk...  That's what the abandoned buildings in the neighborhood are for ;)

So as usual, much ado about nothing.

Why feel sorry for them? Reasonable people say their peace and move on. Crazy people post the same drivel over and over again thinking that sane people will take them serious.

My favorite moments were bounty hunting. There's nothing like making a force sensitive pee his pants when one minute he's enjoying a chat in the Eisley Cantina and the next he's facing fire from two bounty hunters. And the hate tells were icing on the cake. :)

I would agree that is was waaaay to easy.

Eve online combat is easy but you need to LEARN ALOT of things to make it easy.

Vangaurd combat is easy but you have to LEARN your class before its easy.

SWTOR is just plain easy. I just randomly did my class tree without any research and i rofl stomped everything even bosses, with the exception of the last boss fight which i died once. So from level 1-50 i had to learn A SINGLE FIGHT before i could beat it.

Unacceptable to me.

Yeah and I'm sure you have a bridge to nowhere to sell me to go along with that long line of BS you just spewed.

You just scream fanboi. Dont try and pretend you are some neutral party being logical.

No, I'm just someone whose played the game since launch and knows that what you wrote is an outright lie. I have my issues with the game, but I don't just make stuff up to prove a point.

And anyways i was talking about the storyline missions and side missions not single handedly beating group content myslef.

So was I. I'm curious, how did you faceroll the lightning weilding NPC in the Bonus mission on Voss? The one that no one I've met in game can beat one on one at current level and either had to bring support or out level? How did you faceroll elites without learning how to play your class? Most players avoid elites because they are the toughest one on one fights in the game.  Heck , I'd just love to see a vid of you facerolling strongs without knowing how to play your class.

When you spout nonsense, don't get angry when people who actually play the game call you on it. That's not being a fanboy. That's being realistic.

This game ultimately failed because it was designed to be a single-player game with some MMO elements sprinkled in.

Not quite complete enough of a single-player title to make it good for single-player fans, and not quite complete enough of a MMO to make it good for MMO fans.

Some of you guys have a very weird standard for failed MMOs. I guess  all the people I see in fleet that are queing for Warzones along with all of us that group every week for operations missed the memo that TOR has failed and we should save our money for whatever MMO meets your guys high and mighty standards. What MMO out there should we all be playing?

I am also a long-time supporter of this game. I still enjoy it a lot, but I just recently started a new alt and I have to say that Bioware definitely did change some things in the early game. It IS much easier to kill things now at low level. I did not notice a difference on my high level characters, but the difference in early game was very noticeable to me. I was able to absolutely breeze through areas that I remembered giving me difficulties during beta and early after release...

Honestly though, I don't see this as a problem. Bioware has just made it easier to speed through the early part of the game. After doing each of the starter worlds several times already, I actually appreciate being able to speed through that content and get to the more interesting parts of the game.

I agree. but I will have to say that it's always going to be easier going back and doing what you've already done. When you first play it, the game is fresh and new and you don't have your playstyle down pat yet.Once you've leveld up a main and go back with an alt, it's always easier because you're used to how the mobs work and you're more familiar with the game. I have three characters that started on Koriban and it was easier every time I did it and that was all before patch 1.2.

Unfortunetly I lost all my SWG screenshots when I tossed my old computer. Had some nice screenshots of my bounty hunter kills as well as the hate tells that came after. Good times :)
