I am an off and on WOW player, have been since release... My first char didnt hit level cap until a month before BC hit... I have had ups and downs with the game overall (didnt like BC heroics, loved wrath, DETESTED Cata until the HOT dungeons and LFR hit and am back with MOP even though I dont like the theme overall)
There is nothing wrong with liking WOW... even the haters either currently play or have played the game and most likely will play it again at some point. The reason why there are such drastic feelings about this game is it influences every other game being designed and has since it launched.... everyone wants the wow killer. They want some of its sub base and when every single one of them flops and usually flops hard people are mad because they tried to copy wow but added some gimmick that was supposed to make people come in droves. This causes the player base that is tired of WOW or wants a more robust game to be upset that its still going strong.
The thought is that if wow was just to finally start falling from its pedestal, maybe designers would stop trying to copy it with newer graphics or what not and thus stop failing hard and those people would finally have a good game again. Unfortunately as long as there is no other option for a good mmo experience out there wow will retain its numbers so the designers will keep trying to reinvent the wheel to steal away wows fanbase (and failing because those that dont like wow dont want wow lite and those that like wow dont want to lose all the options that have been developed over so many years of add ons to wow, to go to a brand new wowclone with half the size and scope that they have no attatchment to)
Eventually wow will start to decline, but blizzard is very innovative in there design philosophy and giving the players for the most part what they want, so its hard to say when that will be, but in the mean time its pretty much all there is other than some niche games out there. |

and the grind is not enough... just look at the upcoming stuff for may and beyond according to http://www.stowiki.org/Upcoming_content
rep system for pvp, rep system for foundry, new fleet holdings with all the associated leveling required for those, rep system for crafting, rep system for anti tholian, rep system rep system rep system...grind grind grind.... welcome to china enjoy your grind game.
I had quit for a year and came back recently and the game has really gone downhill... drops are all crap, no upgrades via drops unless you are brand new... best gear is now locked behind grinds. Previously dropped/trade in items gone, replaced with grinds.... uninstalled the game after less than 2 weeks and unfortunately I am done. |

I am talking about blocking forum posts.... not articles, reviews or anything of the like.... forum posts only jesus, the way it is right this minute is all gw2 posts... cant tell if anything else interesting is been posted because its all GW2 all day
again to retierate I am talking about blocking games from appearing on the forum post ticker on the front page, not blocking articles from appearing, or anything like that... forum posts have nothing to do with this site or what game companies might be paying them to do... I just want a freaking usable latest posts ticker without it being complete garbage gw2 and thats it period all day long.
Currently the site is completely unusable unless I manually go to every game forum I am interested in to see if anything good has been posted. not to mention in the past found some great games by seeing something I was not aware existed being talked about on that ticker unfortunately that wont happen again till about 2 months from now when all the gw2 and wow panda hype dies down again. |

I dont care about your game, I dont care if the same posts sit on that ticker for 3 days if its something I am actually interested in (with only like 2 or 3 games I really could care less about that never going to happen). I just want to be able to look at the ticker and not see only gw2 posts or swtor posts or whatever. Even if the ticker didnt change for 3 days I still can read the news articles and such that the site itself puts out, forums are just a bonus and only valid if I can see when something I am interested in gets posted so I can read or respond to it. Lets flip it here and say someone makes 1000 posts per minute in hello kitty online forums... doubt you are interested in that but thats all you can freaking see as recent posts because you cannot block them. Would you keep coming to a site that you could only get news and posts about hello kitty online?

Im not asking for them to block them for appearing. I am asking for a personal game block list like your own ignore list... you can continue seeing them if you would like, I just want a way to stop seeing the same game that I have no interest in reading about all the time knocking things off that I might actually have an interest in reading.
Again not asking for a general thing here, just a personal way to ignore posts about certain games that each and every one of us could tailor to our own wishes. |

I am heartily sick of seeing guild wars 2 appearing on it, same as with swtor when it was released, same as world of warcraft when its expansion gets closer... I certainly have no intention of ever buying GW2, have not read a single post on it, have no interest in reading them... so the thought came to me why cant I ignore certain games, like I can block posters?

Why SW:TOR is not down for the count!
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 8/14/12 10:46:22 PM
story is all the game has... it holds your hand completely through every other thing possible... everything in the game is on rails, no choice where to go, no help getting groups till recently, no real factional pvp.
Just a decent rpg morphed into a crappy crappy mmo. I played up to the 3rd planet and that was it... I was done. My highest char was a level 27 trooper and I just could not stand having no option but to keep space baring through stories to progress linearly through a predetermined path while my choices factional choices have no impact other than my eyes start to glow and I can only use certain color crystals.... oooh ahhh wow.
I really looked forward to this game but now I just keep thinking they killed my SWG for this? (played swg since beta, actually had to go out and buy a better computer to play the game... had dial up back then still took me 20 hours to download the game lol) |

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: Mists of Pandaria - September 25th!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/26/12 2:02:50 AM
I still maintain if I get the expac it will be when blizz offers a return to game and get it for free... cataclysm sucked big time, hated the dungeons. They just took too long and were too grueling... I loved doing Wrath dungeons, hated cataclysm... then they nerfed and changed and nerfed it till it became bearable, but even still when raids are easier than dungeons there is a problem.
They lost me though when they offered the return and get the expac and a free boost for 1 char to 80 for free.... that was it. Now my attitude is give it to me for free and I will pay your sub, otherwise no point at all. Even with the beta you know that there will be many nerfs and changes once game goes live again and I am not paying to beta test when they patch it live and they change stats/weights whatever over the first few months after release. I am much happier playing world of tanks right now for free than playing cataclysm at all. |

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria: Mists of Pandaria - September 25th!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/25/12 10:08:55 AM
think I will wait until just before the next expansion so they will offer to level a char to within 5 of max level and give me the expansion for free for being a disloyal customer....
And if they dont, no skin off my back, tired of paying blizzard each month and get nothing back while those that werent even playing get free stuff.
Honestly I wont play until that time as starting out in cataclysm you get dungeons that can take 1 to 2 hours to complete... wait till last 6 months you get the time dungeons that take 20 mins tops each with better gear all around than anything but raids. Classes will be balanced again after screwing up the entire system yet again... nah you guys go ahead and pay them to beta test... I will wait for the free offers to roll out again. |

General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/22/12 11:55:15 AM
The game was fun, I liked the combat, I just detest cetain things that the game started out as. Things may have changed now but the issues were there and should never have been released that way.
1. you can queue for pvp anywhere but pve you must be at a station and shout for a group. 2. same faction pvp queues... why bother even having 2 factions if you dont have a war or battles between the factions. 3. along the same lines of 2 Huttball... make huttball an arena, not pvp queue. The entire premise sucks... its not pvp its arena play offs 4. every last freaking quest is voiced over... thats fine 1 time through but make another character same faction, then another... it gets really freaking old, my spacebar was getting used more than my action buttons. 5. voice over options in dungeons.. 2 edged sword here, 1 its great that instance can play out different ways depending on choices but after a few times through the dungeon having to wait on some moron who wont spacebar through the conversation sucks. 6. Space may as well not exist... you might as well have just offered shuttle services between planets because star fox online doesnt cut it, and the personal space ship that you cant do anything with isnt great eiter... its like housing but you cant change a thing, it sucks. 7. every thing is instanced... the servers cant handle more than 20 to 40 in a zone before another instance of it pops... stupid stupid stupid. 8. worlds completely lifeless... no critters, mobs just stand there... completely static everything. 9. pvp no seperate queues for level spreads.... a level 10 against a level 50 sucks. 10. crafting is worthless and pointless. plus you dont even do it... just click on your companions.
I could keep going on what I didnt like but its not as simple as you either like the story and still play or didnt like it and quit. There are many different reasons. |

when I had the chance to access this game for free I didnt take advantage of it because I mistrusted the company after buying age of conan when it first came out... now after reading reviews and hearing what people have to say I regret that decision, but not enough to shell out another 50 on a game I might not like. That being said please pm me a buddy key if you would, and thank you in advance. |

Blizzard has taken the "MMO" feel out of this game.
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 7/07/12 8:41:35 PM
The problem is not the LFG tool, its the rewards provided in addition to having an easier time finding a nice dungeon group. If they stopped handing you a bag at the end with extra experience and a bag full of goodies people would most likely do more questing or grinding to level.
That being said the tool itself is great... it gives those that hate questing and grinding a way to find a group without spamming a channel for hours. It gives those that enjoy questing and the lore but also like dungeons a way to do both instead of sitting somewhere waiting and "shouting" for hours. Honestly thats why I quit SWTOR, no way to find a group and had to sit in a station to find one... no way around it. I also agree with the addition of the LFR tool, I personally just dont have the time or inclination to live eat and breathe guild or devote hours guaranteed certain nights of the week to run a raid... if you schedule hours and must show up or you lose your spot its a job and no longer fun, with LFR I get to see the nice cinematics and experience the fights and get some gear... you are still perfectly welcome to devote every tuesday and friday night for 3 hours to your guilds... good for you that you have the desire to do that... that doesnt mean that I should either have to just watch youtube and have no part in the culmination of the entire story of the expansion so that you can preserve your "status" as a raider.
My suggestion to help promote getting back into the world so to speak is to remove the extra rewards from the LFtools... the reward should be the dungeon/raid, not the bag of goodies and bonus exp. |

1.3 the celebration of Nerf´s
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/29/12 11:03:20 AM
I wanted to like this game... looked forward to it for a long time, a long time. Anyway 2 weeks into the game I couldnt take it anymore.... I can queue anywhere to do pvp but have to sit in a freaking station to try to do PVE instances. I dont like solo rpg's, I like grouping dungeon crawls and the like. 1.3 finally brings the lfg tool so that you can go and level while still trying getting in a dungeon but, unfortunately its too little too late. Too many nerfs, optional server transfers instead of actual server merges, and god at all the thread locking when people express an opinion that they dont like... post in this forum thread with 30 pages so no one sees it, and to top it off a sick population base.
If it goes F2P then I might go back but not the way they are now. |

If it is true that SWTOR cost near 500mil...
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/16/12 10:59:43 PM
ehh dont worry... they will recoup their losses.
I mean after server merges going from the 171 servers listed on TORstatus down to like 25ish they should have atleast 75 slightly used servers for sale now lol. |

epic crafting??? what in the world are you smoking... 3000000 clicks to make 1 single item.... oops ran out of points and only a grade c item.
Sorry I like crafting but having to click not just once but multiple times thorugh the same step to click multiple times through next step etc etc is not my idea of epic crafting, unless surviving making an item without getting carpal tunnel appeals to you.... Hell the trailer ran like a minute... if they showed the crafting system it would have taken entire trailers time by the time they fix all the errors refold it over and over just to get a good item made. (i made it to a level 27 bowyer and said bump this... not worth it.) I dont mind a few clicks but SWG is epic crafting, not this click fest of a system (eq2 is better than vanguard in that respect... though not by much).
Honestly though as to the trailer, I remember the game looking much much better... the world itself was always awesome looking but the chars and combat animations look like they were done on a low end computer.... if thats top end of the graphics then yeah its fairly dated now but again I have not played in over 2 years... might have to pick up my disciple again once f2p. |

Main reason why SWTOR flopped?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/03/12 2:26:32 AM
Originally posted by Gravarg what community do you speak of? How does this game even encourage community other than dumping you in a space station to spam LFG with all the others your level. I mean you have 30 instances of the same zone with like 15 people in each zone... you get to know each other really well there... lots of comradarie... or maybe you are speaking of the Lake of Ill Omen/Barrens chat channel general chat which to me was nothing but wow central and I just ignored it completely.
Hate to break it to you but its not the community in this case, its the game... you want community but the game can be done completely solo without ever talking to a single person.... companion characters while a nice feature for a solo rpg, help to kill community in a MMO... its like mercs in eq1... who needs a cleric or a warrior just fire up your mercenary... and thats just touching on your community jab... that doesnt even get into missing elements of the game like end game period, space may as well not exist, pvp broken/against your own faction further encouraging that community and set up as a competition sport throwing a ball around.... again thats not the community... thats the devs taking a game called star wars, removing the war part and saying go stab your own team in the back for pvp points... no thanks.
In eq1 you had to group period... everything required it you realistically couldnt solo past level 17 in eq... DAOC was easier to solo in but you had to buy gear that was crafted... just had to and you had group roams of pvp, guild houses, player houses, leaderboards to compete with your other server members bonuses for capturing relics and the like. There is nothing like that in SWTOR... hell SWG was even better with player crafted gear, doc buffs, entertainers healing wounds... so much better than swtors community features. |

Was shutting down SWG LA's biggest failure yet?
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 6/03/12 1:53:38 AM
I am guessing the game was still profitable even with the smaller population...I mean I had a guild mate that was spending 100 a month on those stupid cards and another that was spending 50 on them... thats like 6 subs in revenue there... most of my guild mates had 2 to 4 accounts.
The game itself had gotten stale, yes some stuff had been added but overall it just didnt have enough dev time anymore, that being said no one anywhere can beat swg's crafting system economy, and pre nge character customizing was top notch.... make a 4004 tka with doctor thrown in... no problem... make a dancer/ranger rifle/pistol... you were pretty unlimited, and space, glorious space...that being said I wouldnt want SWG back with NGE... why oh why has no one copied these elements of SWG. If someone would make a game where item drops were complete crap but could be reverse engineered by a competent crafter and remade into awesome versions, where the entire economy was run from player made items (that decayed non repairable as you used them) that all the stats varied, depending on the material stats (which changed over time). where you could play a single character as a certain build then decide to change it down the road without rerolling, that had a fully formed second game within the first game (space) then add to it DAOC's RVR elements and I will be your fan for eternity. Oh forgot the housing... loved swg's windowed houses... posters on the walls, all the holos around... was great too.... |

Main reason why SWTOR flopped?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/03/12 12:38:26 AM
Originally posted by Trol1 thats the ticket.... we bought and expected a mmorpg (you know the games that you get a quest dialog and click accept instead of sitting in the middle of a flashpoint watching the exact same dialog for the upteenth time because someone wont spacebar through it, not to mention at least some freedom from the beaten path going where we want instead of being told to go to point a b c and then at such and such level go to d e and f)
now on to why it can be called a failure to me at least... they sold over 2 million copies... last report only had 1.3 subs. So in less than 6 months you have all ready lost nearly half of your users and that 2 million was around release time, I am sure they have most likely sold near 3 million over all if not more since december.
My wish for this game is that they had done movies for class story only, left non class traditional mmo type... use the money they saved from that change and fully flesh out space... even just stealing the damn thing from SWG if they had to. While that wouldnt have fixed everything, it would at least make the game livable to me with something to do besides should lfg in some station for hours. |

I just resubbed this morning before I left for work... mechanic level 5 has 10 hours left to complete so letting that go while I am at work, once I get home will look for those new career path tutorial missions I read about on eveuni wiki...
I have watched a few videos on the how to part of exploration, but dont know what scanning would be better to try...since I can mine decently, I might try the one to do with mining and the one that is salvaging/archy to start out, I just dont know yet. I am going to have to try it out in .5 and higher at first then as I learn and such might go to .4 and lower, I just dont know yet. My eventual goal is to earn enough to make the game FTP essentially, but thats a bit off I suppose... I could get a raven again and do level 4 missions once I get faction up to unlock one in highsec in the mean time I suppose.
Couple of exploration questions... what are entailed in wormholes? what type of ship would you need for doing those?
Jolea is my chars name in game if you have say any mails with information or such that could help.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.
PS why would I undertank my mission ship.... yeah more boring that way but better than running away a lot because you cant handle the spawn. |
