Star Trek Online: Jack Emmert on Microtransactions
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/20/09 12:55:00 PM
The only clarification I want to hear about micro-transactions is that there will be none. As long as they are in game, I doubt I will be playing it. Saying the MT purchases are purely cosmetic doesn't change that fact for me. Aesthetics are a huge part of MMOS, at least they are for me. Imagine in you could dye your armor in your current game of choice, the NPC vendors will sell you gray, beige, mauve and baby-shit green for in-game currency, but for just a buck ninety-nine you can buy red or black dye... Micro-transactions simply lead to developers holding back high demand content or services, so they can charge real money for it. |

What do you enjoy the most in WAR?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 7/20/09 12:24:03 PM
What I enjoy most is open world RvR. No doubt about it. I hope that in time they add more open RvR areas, add PvE quests to the existing lakes and try to make each keep a little bit unique. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Video Documentary #3: Voices of SW: TOR

I can't imagine that the voice acting is many people's top concern or question about the game.
....You're kidding me.
Why would you watch a video entitled The VOICES of ToR and then whine when they talk about the voice-overs?
gtfo.
I watched it to see the in-game footage. I really don't care about the voice over work, and it has been the topic of like 5 interviews in the last month. I care far more about gameplay.... the voice acting is inconsequential to me. I'd rather hear them explain how this is an actual MMO and not just KOTOR3, now with multiplayer mode!. Going on and on about recording the voice work for what appear to be nothing more than in-engine cut-scenes only reinforces the opinion I already have about the game. that being that it will be very light on the features most of us expect in an MMO. It does look like a fun game though, and I enjoyed the first to Knights of the Old Republic game. So I'll probably enjoy the third as well. |

Dear Bioware, No one gives a shit about the voice-over work in The Old Republic. Please start releasing information people are actually interested in learning about your game.
also, ReBoot kicked ass, especially season 4. :P |

What main components would you like to see in MMORPGS in 2010 and beyond?

It seems like the fast few years they have swung in a completely different direction. Now new and upcoming MMOS don't even offer the features that originally attracted me to the genre in the first place. Deep meaningful crafting, open world housing, shops and cities... feeling like I was living in an evolving world rather than rigid game structure. Maybe some day they will get it right... but I don't see that happening with any of the currently announced games in development. it's all more of the same, either that or even less. |

Are you tired of Medieval Fantasy MMORPGs?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/23/09 12:11:20 PM
Absolutely. Not only am I tired of fantasy games, I never liked the setting to begin with. SWG got me hooked on the persistence of an MMO, but I unfortunately all my other options are cliché fantasy games that are all almost exactly the same setting. I can't wait for the wave of space and sci-fi games to release over the next year and a half. :) |

Must be one of those 1-100 scale reviews. There is no way any reasonable person thinks this game is a 9.5 out of 10. Anyone claiming so is either a liar or a fool. it may not be a 2/10 either, but that score is certainly more realistic than 9.5. That score would have cost them their credibility... if they had any to begin with. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: E3 '09 In Depth Interview at MMOGamer
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/15/09 12:19:36 AM
These guys are so tight lipped on content that I have to assume the worst. As much as they keep talking about how "story" is the main feature of the game, there is almost no mention of the MMO elements that matter to me. I assume there won't be space combat or even space travel other than warp from planet X to planet Y. There is certain to be no housing, maybe even no meaningful crafting or economy. I know bioware makes a decent single-player RPG, but I'm starting to wonder if they have even the faintest idea what MMO players want in a game..... then again, maybe they aren't making this game for the existing MMO audience anyway. |

I think the real "WoW killer" will be patience and time. Video games, no matter how fun, eventually become obsolete and irrelevant. Anyone who thinks WoW is immune to this eventuality is fooling himself. While I have no real interest in Aion, I do think it will cause a considerable drop in the WoW's Asian market. I think it could easily be responsible for the loss of a several million "active" WoW accounts. I think WoW will still maintain a very strong hold on the Western MMO market for a few more years. I'd expect it to be in a serious state of decline by 2011 some time. With the flood of shiny new Asian grinders taking most of that market, and a couple of new big name Western MMOs releasing in that time, I expect WoW to down to a million or so die hard subs in a couple of years. |

Why is EVEs playerbase expanding while other MMOs population decline?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 6/09/09 6:39:36 PM
I didn't like Eve mainly because I found it to be boring. It had absolutely nothing to do with the level of difficulty. I just didn't find anything compelling to do within a month of playing. I did have a list of other things I didn't enjoy, like point and click movement, real-time skill training, lame PvE missions, in game currency sales, harsh death penalty and the near absolute focus on shopping. I could have overlooked most of those if I was having any fun playing. I never found the game to be difficult to understand or control. Posting these criticisms here got me a flood of responses saying that I wasn't intelligent or mature enough to enjoy the game. It's the standard response to any criticism of the game. it's usually accompanied by Eve fanboys telling people that their opinions are "wrong". That is what compels me to post on these forums. You keep implying that there has to be some sort of sinister motive to my posts, some grudge against Eve... I'll say it again. While I don't enjoy Eve, that is neither here nor there... I absolutely can't stand the absurd attitude of elitism that compels Eve fanboys to say that other peoples opinions and preferences are "wrong" and that they just aren't smart enough to appreciate the game.

should Final Fantasy XIV be on the 360 .. I think NOT!!!!!!!!

Yeah... people should make more games that only run on underselling six hundred dollar consoles. That makes great business sense. |

Why is EVEs playerbase expanding while other MMOs population decline?
Jita (General) « EVE Online 6/09/09 6:06:17 PM
The really ironic part is this... People love to say how complex and cerebral Eve's combat is because it's all about planing, tactics, choosing the right gear and knowing when the fight and when to run. Funny thing is, all that takes place in other games too. The only difference is that after all the preparation, in other games you actually have to manually engage in combat. In Eve you just watch it unfold and hope for the best. Other games make you manage their equivalent of position, ammo, heat and energy WHILE you manually pilot aim and fire your weapons or skills. I just don't see how Eve is any more complex than the average MMO. It's a fallacy perpetuated by the fanbots to help them continue to feel superior to the rest of us. |

I think the graphics in the game look great. I admit to being underwhelmed by the first screenshots. But the graphics in the recent videos look pretty decent. No one is going to be comparing these graphics to WoW or WAR. :) |

A little internet tip for you: If you are going to call people stupid on a forum, use spell check. The last thing you want to do is misspell moron... or "intellegent". ;) |

EVE Online: Ship Destruction Stats
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/28/09 5:37:37 PM
I played enough to have an opinion on the game. If that opinion had been more favorable, I'd have played more. I had an active account for 51 days, trained skills the whole time, tried several different types of gameplay including PvE missions, mining, hunting rats in asteroid belts and of course, getting blown up in low-sec space. I didn't play the game enough to write a professional review for it... but I played it long enough to find things I liked about the game and an equally long list of things I didn't. In my time playing, I lost about 5 ships to PvP combat,. So I have the equivalent of about 8 months of average PvP experience in Eve Online. ;) |
