Middle Earth Online : Too bad we got Lotro instead...

I really don't think the game would have been any better. I don't believe any MMO set in this world, restricted by the lore can really be that great.
I have been playing LOTRO since about midway through closed beta. I have three founder accounts still open and I have been one of the more vocal supporters of the game on this site. I still think it's the best MMO of 2007, but I am bored to tears with the mundane content... and anxiously waiting for the next big MMOs to launch.
I want cool mounts, flying mounts even. All we will ever have in a LOTR game is horses. The only variety in mounts is the color. I want to cool looking armor... which is also apparently excluded from the source material. The lack of variety of playable races, or enemies even, is something that we have to live with in this game, just like they would have been in MEO.
I understand the appeal of a big-time IP when developers start planning a game. A built in audience is good, but the players will only stick around based on the game's merit. I guess SWG proves that no matter how bad the game is, some fans of the license will still play.... but most people are concerned with the gameplay first, the lore second.
