Exactly, you didn't. You, and some others who've commented here, just didn't read the review or the commetns. Instead you've made generalizations about something you don't know and cried fanboy, when you're the one being ignorant and talking out of the wrong hole.

This.

Nothing can put me off really, but ignorant loudmouthing is probably the worst, and this guy just had a HUGE dose of it... geez..

I don't have to have read this specific review to know two things... First, reviews are subjective in nature.  And second, this game runs like shit for a lot of people.  Why do I have read this guys review to comment on those two FACTS?

If you read the review.. which you didn't, then you'd know that the game wasn't touted as running like "shit" for the reviewer. Secondly, if you had read the review, you would understand that an overly positive review ending in a strangely negative score doesn't add up.  Also, if you you had any sense at all you'd know that this whole thread is dedicated to a review that was retracted for a specific reason, by not reading the review you have no bearing on what that reason was, and furthermore shouldn't really chime in when you can't comment on the original situation in the first place.

Lastly, I commend MMORPG for their efforts.  The game is highly recommended on this site, and its clear the playerbase just wants an honest review and I applaud MMORPG for giving it another shot

I haven't wasted a single word defending either the review in question or the reviewer.  My comments were on the nature of reviews in general, and the performance of this game.  Since when does unplayable lag not equal shitty performance?  You are just arguing semantics because you don't want to discuss the pertinent facts.

You are just a fallen earth fanboy (evidence in your forum signature) trying to silence the critics of this game by telling them they have no right to comment on it.  Hey, I like video games too... I have been playing the same one for a year, but I don't feel the need to fanboy for it.  I don't have to go around arguing with other people over their opinion of the game, or disputing their reported performance issues.  I don't have the time or inclination to try and "disprove" other people's perceptions.

Like I said, I didn't read the review... but I gathered from the comments here that performance was an issue.  While "unplayable" varies from person to person, I had the same experience with this game.  I tried it out of all four of the machines here, two close to minimum specs and two well above them.  I could make it playable by turning the graphics settings all the way down, but I could not find a reasonable compromise of making the game look good and run an acceptable frame-rate.

Granted, this was in beta, but the performance issues persisted all the way through the until the end of beta.

That's NOT a performance issue.  If you run a game on a system that floats somewhere between the minimum and reccomended specs, then you get "Hopefully it runs smooth on the lowest graphics settings".   That's just how game specs are written up. If you want a game to run smooth AND look nice, then ignore the minimum specs- recommended specs are your effective minimum.

Jeez, you know what? I shouldn't even have to be telling you this. If you don't know, you shouldn't  be mouthing off here.

(much less writing reviews. ;) )

I tried the game on four machines that are above minimum, two that are above recommended.  Don't act like I am the only person who ever said this game runs like shit.  It has to be, by far, the number one complaint about the game.

Somehow I feel even less respect for you guys now. I guess you can never win on the internet.

Agreed.  A review is supposed to be subjective.  Have you guys ever read a movie review, or a restaurant review.... it isn't supposed to be a news piece, it's an opinion.  It should tell us what the reviewer thinks of the game, not what the developer or the fanboys want us to believe about the game.

I didn't read the review before it was taken down, but I can only guess it was pretty harsh.... as it should have been.  This game is turd.  everything they got right is overshadowed by the piss poor performance and lackluster graphics.  I could understand one or the other, but this game manages to look bad and run bad at the same time.  It's an armature attempt at making a video game and it shows.

We didn't arrive at this decision because of the score or the community pressure. The community pressure we just a symptom of a flawed review. Honestly, to read it, it came off as a summary of game features that was generally positive, then had one negative thing (which was an error) and whipped out a mediocre score.

The new review could be scored higher or lower, who knows. That will be up to the reviewer, but we have to do a better job vetting to make sure that they arrive at their opinion without issues like this one had. The review's score was largely based on "unplayable lag," which was more of a customer support/hardware issue than something that should have been in a review. If someone experiences unplayable lag, they must do everything they can to figure out if it is "just them." To the degree that it impacted this article, the lag described seems to have been "just him" and we didn't do the due diligence necessary to confirm it.

Thus, it was retracted.

What bothers me is the attitude, held exclusively by fanboys of whatever game just got a bad review, that a review isn't supposed to be subjective.  Whenever a game gets a well deserved low score, like the Eurogamer Darkfall review, or just about any early review of vanguard, people come out crying about the reviewer just posting his opinion of the game... that is what a review is supposed to be.  It's funny that the thing people get most up in arms about are critiques of a game's performance, which is generally pretty easy to verify.

My question, have YOU played it?  What kind of performance did you get?  I think this issue could best be put to rest by having the re-review done by one of the senior staff members of the site.  I'd be interested in reading it myself.  This is a game i was very excited about during development, until I I got a chance to play it and found... you guessed it, unplayable lag.

This will be Bioware for MMORPG and they could falter.  Just hope they don't focus on making this feel to much like a single player game.

If I hear this kind of bullshit one more time, I'm going to start killing kittens.  They have addressed this single player garbage over and over.  Read up a little bit before you decide to just pop your top and begin spewing forth your vinegar 'n water.

What they keep saying, and what they keep showing seem to contradict each other.  It looks like a dog, and it barks like a dog... so their assurances that it isn't a dog are a little hard to believe.  I have seen and read all the same interviews as you have, but it still just looks like co-op version of knights of the old republic to me.  I'll play it even if that's what it is, I just doubt I will play it very long.

Games seem to bear very little comparison the their own hype lately.  You can't really blame people for being skeptical.

You got that right.  This ass-hat is not to be taken at his word.  he has shown himself to be a liar and corporate tool time and again.  His often stated opinion that he knows better what we want from a video game than we do ourselves is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the MMO industry today.  If this game is any good, it will be in spite of, not because of his involvement.

I don't think they have fixed all the game's issues.  I was saying that the number one complaint I read is about the game being one long scenario grind, and that was corrected a long time ago.  Issues of class balance and content distribution between PvE and PvP are purely subjective.  While I am happy with the game in those areas, I understand that some people aren't.  performance varies from one machine to another, but I also have no issues there.  Granted, I had to turn off spell effects for other players right out of the gate, but since then the game runs pretty good for me... with the obvious exception of fortress battles.... but even that has been addressed by limiting the number of people that can be involved in one... as bad as that solution may be.

100% agree, Amercia stands more chance of collapse through over extension and internal friction than China ever will, they are playing a long waiting game and doing very well out of it thank you very much.

This is very true.  Global scale war, or even large scale war, is a war of attrition.  That is how Germany lost it 65 years ago.

If it is a war that brings everybody down to 1/10 of their living standards, quite a lot of chinese brought up in poor villages can survive.  How many of our kids back home can do without McDonald weekends and regular visits to malls filled with wonderful goods?

Without a war against China, many American kids are already having to learn to live without those little luxuries.  We have enough to deal with in our current war against the local capitalists to worry about the communists across the Pacific from us.

This one isn't at all directed at you, but I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed that in the 21st century, so many people still don't know the difference between communism and fascism.  Just because they so often go hand in hand is no reason to refer to the latter as the former. :/

You mean communism as written thru Communist Manifesto, das Kapital and the later collected works known as the Theory of Surplus Value?  Or you mean communism as the form of gov't that Lenin built up after the October revolution and later spreads out as vassels to protect Russia/USSR?

Clearly Lenin build a "communist" country that does not correspond to Karl Marx's view of universal communism, one that would naturally evolves after capitalism matures and breaks down national borders.  Karl Marx does not believe in a country's communism, its a world's communism -- Trotsky, not Stalin's version of the ideology.

If you have read the communist manifesto, then you are probably one of the few people here that do understand what I was getting at.  When we were kids they taught us that communism meant you had no rights.  Communism is an economic principle, flawed as it may be, it has nothing to do with freedom of speech... despite what they taught us in social studies class.  Sure, most fascist regimes also promote communism as a means to get a total government control, but the two do not necessarily have to go hand in hand.  The Chinese government censoring information on the internet has nothing whatsoever to do with communism, neither did horror stories about the KGB kicking your door in and vanishing you away for speaking out against the government.  Those two governments just happen to be both communist and fascist.

democracy is NOT the opposite of communism, capitalism is. :/

They were pretty quick to add in realm xp and renown bonuses fin an attempt at population balance.  Since that is how it was handled in DAoC, I assumed it was their plan all along.  I do think they made the right changes after launch to correct the lack of open RvR, but post launch is apparently too late.  I really don't believe that in this crowded market, an MMO can launch in a mess and ever come back around to a decent subscriber base.  Sure, it worked with the MMOS that came out several years ago, but there were far fewer choices at the time, and usually no new games on the horizon.  Developers simply don't have the luxury of launching an unfinished, unpolished game and then fixing it after is live any more.  I think Vanguard, AOC and WAR prove that sufficiently.

The bummer for me is that it's a game I really enjoy playing, but the level of fun is limited by the number of people playing.. and I don't see that improving.  Most people still trash the game on these forums for what is was at launch, insisting that it's still the same way, even though they haven't played it almost a year.  Now it gets really ugly and the low number of subscribers doesn't justify much in the way of future development resources.  So they can't overcome the initial negative user reviews to gain new players, and the lack of new content will eventually chase away all the existing players.  Maybe when the game goes free to play, some of the ignorant nay-sayers will see that it is a much better experience than it was at launch.... but the damage is already done.

The complaint i see about scenarios is that everyone was spending all their time grinding in them at launch...  a lot of people were hoping for an open RvR game and found empty battlefields with all the players hanging out in the same few tiny instances with 12-15 people.  Pretty much the same kind of PvP you can get for free in guild wars.  Nothing "massive" about that.

Population is a problem.. I don't ever see anyone argue that it isn't.  I think I said a few posts ago that it was time for server transfers.   Still, I think the population issues are based on people's opinions of the game at launch, rather than the game as it is now.  People will always cry about class balance and a lack of compelling end-game content.  That is true for every MMO ever made... and both are purely subjective.  People don't really want class balance, they want their class to be OP.  Endgame content is different for everyone.  RvR simply for the sake of RvR is enough for me.  Having read about 50 Warhammer books, I am content to explore and do quests, even though I don't get XP any more.

People DO NOT just sit in scenarios all day, and they haven't for a long time... but it is still the number one criticism of the game.  There have been tons of adjustments to the game that were effective in getting people out of Scs in in to the RvR lakes.  If you are a current player then you know that to be true.  People ARE doing open RvR.

Not being able to do PQs... that was addressed by making PQs of varying difficulty as well as adding them all to the map with mouseover info about how many people were working on each one at any time.  If you don't join a guild or play with any friends, it isn't really the game's fault you can't find anyone to do quests with.

What are your specific complaints?  What are the "problems" with the game that you feel haven't been addressed?  I get it, people are leaving the game.  Our alliance on IR fell apart completely and it looks like our guild is headed the same way.  When a new MMO comes out, people move on... it's just the nature of the genre.  They can't make new content fast enough to keep us interested, so we will play another developer's content until we run through that and then move on to the new shiny toy on the store shelves.  The days when there were just a few MMOS on the market, and when there were years between new releases are gone.  It's a bummer that retention is such an issue, but it's true for just about every game out there.

......said the guy who doesn't play the game.  But hey, everyone go on his ignorant assumptions rather than those of the currently active subscribers.  Thanks for reinforcing my point about inaccurate negative word of mouth though. ;)

I enjoy the game and would love to hear positive feedbacks.

The two things I love the most in this game are PQs and the fact that each race had their own classes. RVR is cool too. There are quite a few bad things in this game but the only real thing I'm complaining about is that the game is deserted. I re-subbed 2 weeks ago and the past two weeks felt more of a single player game than an MMO except for one RVR battle done.

That is the problem with the game. After level 12 or so the PVE content is ignored, including the PQ's. I never had a long Q wait to get into scenarios so i know people were playing the game. But only  the scenarios it seemed. I last played about three months ago or so and that is what i saw.

You don't come across a lot of people doing PvE, but it's not because there isn't plenty of it to do.... it's because it is always more fun and more rewarding to fight against real people.  After you have even a short time to learn a game, PvE becomes an overly-simple, masturbatory act.  When a game makes PvP accessible, fun and readily available, I think people will tend to spend more time with it than PvE, especially if they can get all the same rewards.

I know people were playing scenarios heavily at launch, but that hasn't been the case for a long time.  There were several changes after launch that made it easier to find RvR combat, and made that combat more rewarding.  Additional map information and area influence rewards really brought people out of scenarios and in to the open RvR lakes.  Anyone playing the game now can attest to that.  This has been the case for at least the last 6 months.  Although the tools for finding RvR warbands still need some improvement, 3 months ago you should have had very little trouble finding open RvR in any tier, unless you were on one of the many underpopulated servers.  Finding an RvR warband has become a bit of an issue again lately, and I guess it's unfortunately time for another round of server mergers.

The real shame is that the reasons most people state for not liking the game at launch are pretty much corrected at this point.... just a year too late for most people to ever even know it.  I think the biggest thing the game has going against it now is inaccurate negative word of mouth.

It's not perfect, but there still isn't another MMO out I would rather play.  I have been playing since launch and I still play a few hours a day, sometimes several hours.  I am starting to run out of things to look forward to in-game, and it is clearly in maintenance mode now... so I  know I will probably be playing less and less over the coming months.  I guess I am just waiting for something better to launch at this point.

I agree with most of that... but some of it is a little out there.  More scenarios.... really?  Scenarios are the worst part of the game.  I think they are the number one criticism I read from people who haven't played since shortly after launch.  Everyone complains about a scenario grind and instancing and no one in the RvR areas because they are all in scenarios.  I wish they would lower the scenario contribution to about 10%... and even that is a compromise.  If I ran the game I would pull them out completely.  Actually, I wouldn't have let the game launch with them in the first place.  I believe that the game would have been much more successful at launch without them, and it's a better game now with less people spending all their time in them.

I don't think we need a third realm, and I really don't have any issue with separate PvE areas for the two factions.  I would like to see a lot more PvE content in the existing RvR areas.  There are tons of cool places in the lakes that no one ever has a reason to go... even inside the keep gates there is a lot of wasted atmosphere.  The only other part I didn't really agree with was the graphics.  I love the way the game looks and runs on my machine with everything maxed and forced AA and AF.  Sure it doesn't have the graphics capabilities of AOC, but I certainly prefer the style of WAR's graphics over the boring sea of brown and green that is Age of Conan..

I think that a majority of Western players would rather play a game with a slightly higher monthly fee than deal with RMT.  We understand inflation over time, but we like to know up front what we will be paying for something.  and no, I do not think this game is being developed more for Asian than Western markets.  I say if they need RMT as a payment model to succeed in Asian markets then go ahead and offer it there.  No reason we have to have a unified global payment model.

I have played a few games with RMT before and I have hated it each time.  There is no way to say you are only selling things that don't affect gameplay.... as almost any in-game item or ability affects gameplay.  If I have to run all over the map like a chump while other players can fast travel, that affects gameplay.  If for a few bucks you can look cooler than me, that affects gameplay.  In a game where your character is essentially a walking trophy case, I see any visual improvements as gameplay elements.  It doesn't have to unbalance PvP combat to affect the game for you.  I'm not complaining because I can't afford these purchases.  I know me and I would by the stuff... all of it. I'm a completist, it's why I play MMOs.  I just like to know what I'm getting from a game and for how much.  I don't want to pay 50 bucks a month for an MMO, $1.99 at a time.

I don't know about that.  My guess is that WoW makes more money than any other MMO, without using RMT.  You could be right that on average MT games make more per player than subscription based games, but I bet there are a lot of people playing F2P games without buying anything at all.  I just think that a game aimed at a western market would make more money overall by having a standard, flat rate... simply by having more actual paying customers.

I also think that if they want to be able to crow about their number of subs, free-to-play is the way to go.  Look at free realms, it's a terrible game but they can still claim 5 million users or whatever.  They aren't fooling anyone though.  You simply can't compare subscriber numbers between free games and those with a monthly fee.

It's funny watching all the chicken little impersonations as everyone runs around thinking the world is gonna end the second someone mentions Microtransactions.

I mean, sure, just about every other facet of our lives has microtransactions, including other successful video games, but clearly now the world is over.

I don't know what you are talking about.... I have transactions of varying sizes in my day to day life, but I don't generally have them added to my regular transactions.  When I buy a meal, I don't want to be charged extra for the optional thinks like salt and ice for my drink.  I don't expect to pay a plate rental fee or pay an extra 1.99 to sit in the non-smoking section.  Micro-transactions in MMOS mean selling people things that would have otherwise been included in the original stated fee, whether that is a monthly fee or the cost of a regular boxed game.  Other "successful" games (at least in the Western hemisphere) don't have micro-transactions on top of a monthly fee.
