The Secret World or The Secret Rip-Off?
General Discussion « The Secret World 12/03/12 3:38:28 PM
I played TSW in Beta and while I loved the story and the atmosphere, the combat animations were awful to the point that I couldn't play it more than 20 minutes at a time.

Help me buy a CPU and a Motherboard with 220$.Whats the best I can get. Stretch it for me pls.

If you have a Microcenter by you, I'd go with the i5-2500K and whatever motherboard will fit into your budget. You get 40 bucks off a M/B when you buy it with any K Intel processor.

[Column] General: Single Player MMO
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/27/12 2:20:39 PM
I think if TOR would have just stuck to VO for the main story line and not every side quest, it would have been a much better idea. Like Pokket stated, it was cool the first time around., the 2nd or 3rd not so much. I thought LOTRO did a really good job with having just enough cut scenes that left you wanting more and those parts of the story felt important. IMO, single player MMO is an oxymoron. |

Limiting UI bars is the biggest bush league move I have seen out any company moving to freemium model. It was worse than LOTRO making you pay for an additonal bag space even if you are a subscriber.

[Column] General: Do Graphics Matter?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/20/12 2:49:51 PM
Gameplay is way more important than graphics, but it shouldn't look like a game from 2004 either. Then again I still enjoy EQ2 so that says something there in terms of graphics.

I've just learned to ignore it for the most part. I get all sorts of weird reactions when people hear I still play D&D. On top of that, I am a member of the 501st/Rebel Legion so when we dress up for charity events we get all sorts of rude comments/snickers.

I really like the whole TSW concept, but the combat just completely turned me off in beta. I felt like a 2 button masher.

[Column] General: The Next Big MMO
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/15/12 5:49:30 PM
I don't know about WarZ. I am willing to bet that most MMO players aren't really interested in a MMORPGFPS myself included. As many have pointed out after SWTOR flamed out, I just don't a big company investing that kinda cash into a MMO anytime soon. If anything, I think it will be a smaller studio that will lead the revolution if there is even one to be had.

[Column] General: High Expectations
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/03/12 2:03:10 PM
I was at a Q&A session with John Carpenter, (the man who directed the original Halloween, Escape from NY among others), and he basically said the movie industry has come down to bunch of suits are responsible for green lighting your film based on a bunch of figures calculated by some number crunchers before you have even shot a single frame of film. Unfortunately I think the MMO market in alot of way especially with the big corps like EA is operating the exact same way. Everything has to follow a certain formula otherwise the game will never be made. I am hoping the some smaller indepedent games like the Repopulation or Archage to do well and maybe we can escape this cycle. The last couple of games I got pumped up for were STO, TOR and TSW. Sadly by the time I had played several hours in beta/head start I realized while I love the IPs/Theme, the execution of the mechanics were severely lacking whether it be the complete linearness of TOR or the disappointing combat in TSW. Lastly, if you have some constructive criticism for Pokket by all means share your advice, but if all you are going to spit out is she's a doody head and I don't like her please don't bother posting. You'd be better off by just not reading her articles. |

I think LOTRO did cutscenes right IMO. They only did cutscenes for the main story lines and only for certain ones so I found that they were "special" I really thought I would like the SWTOR story thing, but as Pokket stated after awhile they become boring. They would have been much better served perhaps only doing them for the class story arc and a few quests here and there.

Originally posted by Gyrus Gyrus - I see your point, but I don't think that when someone like Anet or Bioware starts making a MMO that they are thinking "Hey how can we get more subs that Farmville." IMO they are shooting for the WOW crowd, but I do see the point you are trying to make. |
