If this is going to be some sort of Oblivion MMO, count me out. Morrowind was superior to Oblivion in almost every way but graphics. If Oblivion-style games are the future for the Elder Scrolls then I want nothing to do with it.

Same here. I loved Morrowind even though I first played it several years after it was released, and the expansions + mods really added a lot of fun after I had eaten through all the original content. One of my favorite games of all time.

If Bethesda made a new original Elder Scrolls and made it an mmo, I'd try it out. If its just Oblivion online...meh. Wouldn't they have to greatly reduce the graphics for an mmo too? Might as well go back to Morrowind style over Oblivion, since Oblivion was more about graphics and less about substance. Quicker travel would be good, but not instant poof travel like in Oblivion; a lot of the fun of Morrowind was finding hidden doors and ruins while traveling on foot. It did get excessive, certainly, but to get rid of it entirely is going too far, in my opinion.

Also, I hope it won't take place in a small and undifferentiated area, like in Oblivion. It would be awesome if we could get continents again, or even just one continent. Vanguard could even do that, so certainly Bethesda can, and probably make it much more interesting as opposed to lots of dead space.

We don't even know if there will BE an Elder Scrolls Online, let alone any of the mechanics. Too soon to say anything about this potential game.

That part in red won't happen.  If Bioware makes a Star Wars game it will be a KoToR timeline game and if they do that it will have tons of Jedi.  Everyone will have the ability to make a Jedi.  That was one of the worst things that SWG did when it first came out.  It was a stupid idea to limit a person's chance to make a Jedi character.

So what would be so special about being a jedi then if everyone could be one?

Who says it needs to be a special thing? I just want to be one.

I'm going to be that annoying dick that goes with the inevitable Jedi. I gotta be a Jedi. Thats my thing, I don't like guns, I like melee and magic powers. Also, I hope they include a good selection of playable races, because I don't want to have to be a human in a Star Wars mmo.

its totally Sonic Adventure Battle Online.

Bioware is such a tease.

I'll play whichever one is better, or both at the same time.

I can only hope its semi-true; at least the part about the mmog being set in the Star Wars universe, because I was going to cry if they tried making a Jade Empire based mmog. That game kind of sucked.

+Also, I want to be an alien.

++Also, Star Wars is a great universe for a mmog to take place in, and somebody better do it justice while its still alive.

What in the hell is up with their arms? Um... guys, women have muscles under their skin too.

Those women look pathetic; Barbarian barbie. Of course, I wasn't expecting much from this genre.... obviously they aren't going for any kind of gender realism. And yes, I know that the source material has male-fantasies in place of actual women, but if you're going to change the abilities of the women in the game to equal that of a man and diverge from the source material in that respect, you should probably make the women look like they could actually lift a sword.

I hope to God that you can make a female character buffer than that via character customization, or I'll be forced to play a male character instead, if I even play AoC at all.

out of those three, TCoS is the only one I'm going to try, but I know it won't be the most popular unless its super incredible at release and suddenly gets a lot more press than AoC or WAR... which isn't going to happen.

I wasn't asking you how you were re-inventing the wheel, I was asking you what the game was about and why anyone would want to play it, because so far it doesn't look like anything even remotely different than PlaneShift, or Horizons, etc. If you come here advertising, you should expect to get tough questions you know, and not just ego stroking. ;)

I usually don't watch games unless they have something about them thats relevant to my interests. Do you have a direction you're going in? Obviously I realize you don't have much developed yet, I've checked your forums; I'm asking you the overview of what you're planning to do with the project, the finished product, not whats in it now. Are you planning to add more races? Are you planning to create a WoW/EQ 2/ Vanguard style combat system, or one more like TCoS or AoC?

Do you suspect that this will be free to play or pay to play, if/when its released?

No offense, but you might just want to work towards getting a job at a small development company rather than trying to make your own mmo, since although this is good for a 16 year old [I assume it is,  although I have no idea if you're using a pre made engine or development kit],  it doesn't look very interesting, new, or differen't.

What are you planning to do here, are you going to add more races, what is the combat system like, is there crafting, what makes this game desirable over all the others? I checked the forum and couldn't find much info.

The only way I can see this working out well for the players is if EA just forks over the funding and leaves Bioware to do its own game development.

Holy crap, how have I never heard of this one before? I guess because its Russian... makes me think I'm missing out on a whole host of promising games because they're foreign.  Arrawns look sweet, I'll be watching w.e.l.l from now on.

Nice try.

But

we see what you did there.

I'm kind of put off by how much of a brainless slaughter-fest they sound like they want this game to be, it seems to be all the rage now to announce super violent mmos, probably because mmo developers have figured out that games like Halo sell well. They also appear to be taking on a lot with all of those features; home planets for each race including moons, mechs, etc.

And I know, I'm very tired of the same boring slow mmo combat just like most of the rest of us, but that doesn't mean I want flaming  testosterone death thrills instead of a well rounded game. However, if its a fun game, and in particular if I like the races and they all aren't human knockoffs, then I might check it out. But I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with the above poster about the comedy of the idea that any mmos are about much else than leveling up, gear, and teh pwning of nubs and/or killing monsters for loots. Have they never played an mmorpg before? Lol.

I wont be trying VG again until the trial is released, Q1 08 sounds about right. By then it should be far better than back when I played it.

For me, a roleplayer and artist, its very important, but small distinctions like tiny differences in ear sizes on a slider type system is pretty pointless in the long run. However, I like a system a little more robust than WoW's, especially being able to pick my body type, height and width.

A lot of people talk big about sexiness and how desirable it is in everything, but seriously, few people buy games for the sex in them. Why? Because thats not what games are for, thats not what they're good at. You can go to numerous other places for your dose of extreme sex, like, well, porn sites. But games almost always throw some amount of female seductivity in just to keep your attention a little longer.

Its just another ploy used to draw in a certain audience.... and when a game goes 'mature', they tend to go all out in order to get the violence/titty crowd as assured customers, so they like to couple gore and bloodshed with sex and breasts, because thats what they know young males with money will buy.  Same with movies. However, its just one peice of the puzzle, you aren't going to pay 15 bucks a month JUST for scantily clad pixels. A game has to have a lot more than that, just like you wouldn't play a game simply because it has amazing graphics, if the gameplay sucked.

But besides that, most of the people that make games are white males or asian males, so thats what you always see reflected in games; their fantasies, what they like, which tend to be stupid white or asian female bimbos, who usually just serve as side characters or love interests, or succubus.

In my opinion, Vanguard is still in beta, and when its actually finished in a couple months, I'll give it another go. And by another go, I mean I'll download the free trial and see if it doesn't suck as bad.

I'd be furious if I was one of the people that pre-ordered/bought VG when this is really just public beta 5.

edit: Oh yeah, and Valant, GREAT post. They need to rework the core, the bugs are definitely NOT the problem they should be focusing on. And really, after they fix the largest performance issues [as they have begun too already], they need to seriously think about updating the combat. I doubt they will, but for God's sake, the grind is rediculous. At least make the combat better. I was Olid in the pre-release version of your guild btw, up until I played Vanguard in beta, which ended any desperate hope I might have had about enjoying this game.
