So the title says it all.  I am at this time at a crossroads.  I personally have had a renewed interest in raiding, but still loving my pvp so what is WAR going to bring me on both ends?  I have been in closed beta for War and Open Beta...currently in head start and i must say i do like the game, but I'm still worried about raids and instances.  I want to be able to get a group and go run a small dungeon, but have yet to find anything like that.  Sure the PQs are great, but not satisfying my thirst at this time.

Warhammer has so much to it that i like and WoW now going on 4 years for me is just lackluster.  WoW to me is moving too much toward the casual and could be played decently by a brain dead person imo (sarcasm). Anyways,  that's about all i have to say on my issue, i am going to place a poll for those of you who are too lazy to post lol.  Thanks.

Hey, I have gotten my new computer...well actually had it for a little bit...lately i am just really wanting a nice pve experience that is not WoW.  I've found WAR to be my game for my pvp, but i really want to get into a really nice and deep pve game and i heard that LOTRO was my game to go to.

I have come here to ask for a buddy key if anyone has one.  I really want to try the game out and have no restrictions, which the trial will give me.  If anyone out there is willing to give out their buddy key i would greatly appreiciate it.  You can email it to leach_tyler@yahoo.com or just PM me.  Thanks!

Not to point out the obvious, but the point of playing a closed beta, is to help the developers find bugs, fine-tune things, test systems, etc. That's what you implicitly agree to when you go into a closed phase of software testing. It isn't a test drive at all. If you look, you will probably find a set of private forums just for that purpose.

And yes i do know this i have beta tested many games before, but the fact still remains that you are playing the game.

Went and logged on today to my newsletter account and find that i've been invited to join closed beta.  Knowing i can't disclose any information about the game I just wanted to come and brag about getting an invite lol.

I can't wait to get into the game and start playing!!!

Hi,

First of all i am going to come right out and say it, i want a buddy key.

Now that that's done i want to know a little about the game.  I have played before but i was so limited by the trial that i quit so i want to try this puppy out for really.

Raiding:

What is this like?  I've seen a few videos here and there and it looks quite epic, but is it the same as WoW where you go once and then as time goes on you hate the place or does it feel fresh a lot of the time?  Yes i understand all things get old, but you know what i mean.  Also, is the best gear in the game coming from raids?

PvMP:

What is this all about?  Like i said on raiding, i've seen a few videos and it seems fun, but does it have a purpose to it at all?  Can you play the game just as a monster (after reaching 10 to make one)?

Crafting:

One question, can i make uber gear, weapons, contraptions and the such that actually truly matter in the game?  When gathering the things i need for crafting, do i chop down trees or just bend down for no reason over them?

That's it for me so far, if any of you have a spare buddy key i would GREATLY appreciate it if you let me use it.  Thanks!

I feel my creature's lore(s) are one of the great things about them so if you wish to see it go to www.spore.com and search for Freshman, my creations are under that name.  Some of them suck yes, but a lot of them were made in the demo before i bought the retail version.

The Golden Snitch:

The Salvion:

Magnadon:

Although fearsome in appearance, the Madnadon is quite docile.  They travel in herds and graze in large forests.  Their diet consits of large trees to small bushes.  When threatened they will run in fear sometimes even killing their young.  At first it was thought these creatures used calls to communicate, but further investigation shows that two large pores on the underbelly give off smells which can warn the herd or just show emotions.

Evolved Magnadon:

I will be making more today.  Hope you all enjoy them : )

edited:  And here they are, i've also decided to add descriptions to them.

Malaceion:

Back:

Inigi:

Surprisingly, this little race is quite intelligent if not brilliant.  They dwell underground, digging tunnels constantly to expand.  The race has not seen a war among themselves in over 200 years and during that time have advanced their technology much further than most races.  The Underdwell, the Inigi's capital city, is the heart of the race and also harbors the race's king, Jaxon.  The race is currently working on moving to new planets to terraform and further their race.

Frocazog:

This race lives underwater where it dwells in dome colonies made of a thick mucus they excrete themselves.  The race is known for it's trade skills and have been know to talk people into giving the shirt of their own backs...literally.  Beware, rumor has it that this race of people put spells on people with their speech alone, putting the person in a trance.

adding more descriptions later, gotta go to my bday party lol.

So yeah the title says it.  I got the activation, but now how do i go about playing the game?  I don't have the game i just played trial so do i just download the trial again or what?

Also, if i do get into the game, which will be the first time with no trial hold backs, will anyone like to level up with me?  Last time i had a hard time playing the game cause i felt so alone in such a big world.  If you are interested please post here and let me know thanks.

Sorry, I don't have a buddy key, but will try to answer your questions.

Crafting is still popular in the game. Crafted gear is some of the best available in the game. Boats, bags, housing items and harvesting gear are still selling. If you want to make money at it, just like any business, be proactive and make your presence known (short of annoying spam) in the crafting and auction channels.

The PVP server has one of the lower populations. If you live in the US, try either of the PvE servers. I see plenty of people on Seradon. I'll be honest, it still appears sparse at times or at certain areas, but dont be fooled. This is not a game that has a few central hubs that people congregate at. With the addition of bankers, brokers and crafting stations being added to housing areas (some of which are fairly remote), it makes the larger cities and towns appear non populated. So again, use the various chat channels and LFG tool to find fellow adventurers.

I cant speak on the ganking, as I never played on the PvP server. so hopefully someone else can speak to that issue. But as far as "Gold Spammers" and "PLers" spamming there services, it has been reduced to being nearly non noticeable. Sony has gone to great lengths, with help of the player community, to eliminate spamming by adding spamming filters and a spam tab to help capture what might make it through. Reporting these acts is encouraged as well.

Hope that helps.

Good luck and Peace!!

Thanks for the answers, they really helped.  So i kind of figure most people don't have buddy keys anymore, but i've seen a few people posting about buying it recently so i thought it was worth a try.  I am patient though and will continue to wait.

A buddy key lol.  So i played the game a while back and bought the game to try it.  I ended up not liking it and it's been sitting in my cabinet for a very long time now.  I would really like to come back and try the game, so if any of you have a buddy key you would be willing to let go of i would be glad to take it off your hands.

I do have a few questions about the game if anyone wants to answer them that'd be great.

I really really REALLY enjoy crafting and from what i remember crafting was really nice in this game.  How is it now?  Are people still crafting a lot?  Is there a need for crafters in the game?

What about population?  What server should i go to so i don't feel like i am in an empty world?  Last time i played that was a big turn off for me because i hardly ever saw a single person around me.  I felt very lonely and started to wonder if zombies were just around the corner ready to eat me because i was the last man on the planet lol.

I know Vanguard has never been known for it's pvp, but is it still an all out gank fest and exploiters exploiting the hell out of the game?

That's about it for now, if i have more questions i'll ask them when i think of them lol.  Thanks!

My journey first began around a week ago when my new glowing blue computer sat foot on my porch.  After opening the PC installing the game and patching i found myself inside the world of Conan which i will be honest, i never really knew anything about the lore lol.  I am going to go in depth about my experience here and yes i know there have been OVER 9000 reviews on this game in this forum alone, i just wanted to add my two cents.  Also, i played a Ranger to 20 and a Bear Shaman to 20 (currently 21)

Graphics: 10/10

Let's face it, this game is just outright gorgeous.  I find myself taking hundreds of screenshots constantly everytime i find a spot that i just can't take my eyes off of.  The models in the game look human and very life like.  I've seen all the main zones/cities and i still cannot get over how each looks so amazing.  The water in the game truly looks like real water.  The waterfalls for some reason are not as convincing to me, but it still looks gorgeous.

Fun: 8/10

The game really is a lot of fun.  If you get a group together and go out to play together the game is even more fun, especially in pvp.  You start in tortage island, which many of you already know, this little hub hold so many quests that you don't even know where to start, but for me that is a really great aspect of the game.  There are two places which are "pvp zones" which sometimes are full of people doing nothing but killing people and other times you can go in and find no one.  The quests and the gameplay itself had me so wrapped up that for the first time in any mmo since WoW i didn't notice the time passing by nor did i notice when i was leveling up, all i knew was damn this is fun.  Now you may be saying, "well why did you give it an 8 then?"  Well, i played two character through the same area and although they both did a lot of different quests it still became redundant.  The PvE of the game is exciting, but of course as in all mmos it became a little old.

Community: 9/10

I am on Deathwhisper, yes there are a lot of assholes, but that is where i am at home.  I like to play in places where people have a sense of humor and a place where the chat is constantly full of people chatting away.  I looked for a guild as soon as i got into the game and eventually i became part of Hounds of Crom, which are a friendly bunch of people and quite helpful.  As a whole my server community is quite helpful, but when they are not helping they are smashing your face in with the giant blunt two hander and then dancing on top of your dead character soaking in a pool of his own blood.

Performance/Lag: 7/10

I've gotta give it a 7 because ever since the last patch i am getting game freezes where i have to just shut off my computer and turn it back on.  I've been told it's because the programing of the game is causing a lot of memory leaks, but seriously they need to fix this issue soon.  When i first started play i had no problems what so ever.  Besides my freezes though i run the game on almost completely max graphics very smoothly, i hardly ever feel any hint of lag and it has yet to interfere with my playing.  I really have to stress that you need to have a hardy computer for your performance to be anywhere near good.  I cannot tell you how many people in this game are playing on the min specs and experiencing game crashes, horrible lag, and that is even with the graphics on the lowest possible they still have issues.

Value: 6/10

So yeah i game it a six, why you ask?  Well to be honest the only reason i am playing is because WoW is dead for me (until wrath) and basically i am waiting for Wrath and WAR to come out.  The game does have a lot of value, especially if you are a big conan fan and or have no other MMO you are looking for.

PvP:

Alright so here is where i found myself loving the game.  The pvp is a whole WHOLE lot of fun.  I found myself ignoring quests and just killing anyone who came across my path.  With my bear shaman though i couldn't really do this, but i hear it gets better at 25.  I've yet to decide what class to go with, but i have to let you know now, for those who don't know, there is A LOT of unbalanced aspects about each class.  Rangers are OP up until 40ish i hear, which at 20 i have to agree, people don't even touch me.  Bear Shaman sort of have this rite of passage as they call it which means until 20 you will hate your class lol, but i personally liked bear shaman a lot as i've leveled.  The pvp is free for all on my server so in certain zones on tortage there is a lot A LOT of ganking, but nothing that really bothered me.  Where it got bad for me was in Cimmeria, Conall's Valley.  I have a level 70 follow me around and kill me with her horse...it was quite annoying.  The fact that i can talk to people who kill me though is a really nice aspect to the game because sometimes you can convince people to stop if they just will not stop ganking you.  I am really looking forward to this consequence system that is supposed to take place soon and at the same time a little worried. I really don't want it to ruin the whole PvP of the game, but there needs to be a system that punishes those who gank the lowbies trying to level.  Overall the pvp in this game is absolutely where the game shines.  When you fight someone and enter the fatality mode, smashing their face in and thinking "Wow this guy has got to be pissed" it truly is a surge of excitement and a whole ton of fun.

Service: N/A

no clue lol!  Never used it, never has a reason to use it so i can't really talk about that one sorry.

Overall: 7.5/10

The game needs some work here and there, but what game doesn't.  No game comes out of beta perfect and no game probably ever will.  The fact is the game is really awesome and a great pick for anyone who loves pvp and a very good pick up for anyone who loves the Conan lore.  If you are sick of your game and looking for a new game then this is the game for you.  I don't really know what the game holds for me 20+ yet, but i am sure i will be enjoying my rise to the top endgame.

I will be adding another review for 20-40 later, but for now this is all i've got.  I will stop writing now before you die for reading all this text.  Thanks to all who read and please do not troll, it will just be ignored.

Thanks!

I don't know if i am the first to post this here or not, but i just read on their main site about a job opening for GMs ingame.  It goes into detail and it says :

Candidates must be local to (or willing to relocate near) our Fairfax, VA Studio, and available to start in August, 2008.

This is a link to the job offer: herald.warhammeronline.com/warherald/NewsArticle.war

August would be amazing, but it also means i'll be going back into school probably soon after release (late august).  I can't wait!!

I dont mind MMO's having bad press as most do when theya re relased, but AoC is not donig the right thing I think, Lets hope fro there sake they get into gear and sort out there major issues, or they going to be another lemon MMO out there as more and more MMO's go live.

You stole my avatar.....I cannot find that icon anywhere anymore so i'm convinced you stole it... >_>

Anyways, for one if you really have made it this far already to build a city and the such i feel you are either playing way too much (sleep and eating are good things to do), or you were in fact exploiting.  Everything you do in the game is recorded in a log and Funcom are able to view those anytime they wish seeing how in mmos theres not such thing as invasion of privacy.  Therefore i cannot help but think you are amd or a good majority of your guild are exploiting.  The logs pretty much do not lie once recorded so something in there must of not looked to good in the eyes of Funcom.  They don't just look to see that you have a lot of money they can determine why that may be through logs, but when they see major jumps of money with no source that's a sign.  I myself hate cheaters and if you are cheating/exploiting then THANK GOD they banned you.  If not i'm sorry...contact them and work out the issue.

To go back to subject, i really don't know as of yet what this game runs like, but my system specs...that is when i get my new computer in next week...are dual core 3.1ghz processor, 3gb of ram, 8800 eVGA 512mb GPU.  I think that i will be able to run the game pretty well on high settings, but we'll see.  Honestly a game is about the gameplay not graphics.  If Superman 64 (voted worst game of all time) would of had graphics like a xbox 360's graphics, which was impossible for its time, it still would not have been a good game, nice to look at, but still horrible.

buddy keys should be activated soon. All regular editions of the game get 1, and CE gets 5.

Your system will PWN AoC. Maxium settings, no problem.

HAHA, freaking awesome to hear that.  Thanks for letting me know, i was actually kinda wondering if i would get the full glory or not.

funcom stated many times that they weren't trying to be a wow killer, and realised that not everyone would have the PC balls to play the game.

There are ALREADY about 500k people playing. As more people upgrade over the coming months and even years, more people will be able to play the game...and it will look good.

PC games are not meant to look like low-poly shit.

Let's face it people, computers are constantly improved and always will until we reach a limit impossible to breach.  The systems out there that are dual core 3.1 ghz and or quad core 2.4-2.8ghz processor, 3-4gb of ram, 8800+ gpu's, etc will all become standard within the next year to two years.  To play computer games as your hobby, it has always ALWAYS been said that you will be forking out a whole lot of money if you want to keep up with the games that are being pushed out.  If you can't save up and upgrade then you might need to find a new hobby, sorry to say it, but it's just a fact in PC gaming.
