I also cannot understand peoples that pay monthly fee for a game that they play as a standalone game.

Even that for me soloing in MMOs is important aspect as it is the only way to play when have not much time to spend in a game.

I just want to clear a few things up around here about the myth that keeps on showing up in these forums. The fact is there is no where near 300k players. These are accounts, and personally many of these accounts are owned by people who multibox. I myself have 3 accounts, my close friends that I play with all have atleast 1 extra account for either covert ops "eyes", manufacturing, or logistics. This guy alone can describe 90% of eve players, not that everyone has this many accounts but in general this is how things are around EVE. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1215928

I hate to break it to these guys feeding misinformation but this is the honest to god truth. At no point in time will you ever see the players currently online break 50k. I have seen it at 51k ONE time in my 5 and a half years of playing. Hell I think out of the 100's of people I know maybe 4 have one account, and 2 of them guys closed the second account due to $$ issues.

Does this affect the game itself and make it less fun? Some say yes, but I don't feel it does. If I had to guess i'd say there is maybe 75k players at best. Which is still good. By no means is the game empty and in my opinion it has just the right number of players. Just thought I would clear it up. Cheers

I think you are completely wrong.

As EvE use only one server and that server give information about online player any moment of the day its very easy to calculate proximate number of active players in it. Here it is:

As I know average time played per week in MMOs is 14 hours which is 2 hours a day.

When I have played EVE there was between 15-40k players which make something like lets say 25k average players online.

As already mentioned average player play 2 hours a day which is 2/24 part of the day that is equal to 1/12 of the day.

Because average players online any moment of the day are 25k that mean there are 12x25k=300k player average players logged in a day.

About multi accounts: There are many peoples with more than one account in any MMO not only EvE.

Even last years Sony have tried to make Vanguard close as much as possible to WoW it still have much more freedom. Your actions affect the game play much more than WoW, so for one it can be very difficult till for other piece of cake depending how you play.

If you try to play Vanguard like WoW it can be even more boring than WoW. The nice thing in Vanguard is that it benefit exploring and experimenting as there are many valuable quests that you have to find between most worthless quests (aka WoW quests). For that purpose suggestions from experienced player is very helpful. This way you can develop your char to point where you can solo much of the party content. That is correct for any class. That is why you can find completely different opinions about every class. The truth is that it only depend of how you play. Every class can be OP or completely worthless depending of gear and skills used regarding that gear.

Some patches introduce some bugs like the last one introduced lag bug that often return you movement few seconds back. That happens often and such things happen even on released games on test servers. In general game need much more work but everything that is currently in game is great and point to the right direction.

I think that 1-2 months will be enough to complete base functionality of the game and make it ready for release.

Of course as they officialy stated it will be much better if can continue development as much as possible. The nice thing is that SV is trying to introduce things step by step so they can release basic finished working mechanics instead many unfinished.

This is what I saw when I played the trial (not my picture but it's the best example) and you have this great landscape but such horrible character design. It put me off going any further throughout the game because if I can't like my character then I wont care about the exploring the world with him and his advancement.

Char looks very nice. Why you created that char if you do not like it? I personally found char creation very customizable so its not game but your own fault.

1) Death penalties that go beyond the point of not being able to retrieve your previous equipments.

There was  game that used to allow players who freshly died (and drop EVERYTHING in inventory) a grace period of twenty four hours to go back to their corpse to retrieve everything they dropped.

That was OK

But then games that allowed full-loot of all your efforts? Ehh, it's a big turn off for me.

Its called risk vs reward. Aslo such games are designed so you loose your equipement soon or later as it is broken with the time. It force you to think more before act. As example in such games you equip your best armor only when it most necessary (in wars as example).

In general Full Loot mechanics is opposite to the item grind mechanics like it is in most Theme Park games where equipement is main target. Full loot force you to act smart.

Very nice, now how is the rest of the game?  Combat, crafting, questing?

Combat is very realisitic except magic that is autoaim, and even a bit not responsive I like it very much. Need a bit more polish.

Crafting is very complex as you choose every part and different materials for them as this give different characteristic to items. In general there is no just a good and bad items but you have to find the proper formula for every specific purpose. As Full Loot game where items brake with usage, but also every item is craftable, resources and crafting are very important aspect as every item is lost soon or later. Crafting currently is implemented using NPC that have to be changed soon before open beta.

Questing - OMG this question sound like ;) there will be no quests in that game, no guided game play at all, instead players create quests by themself like collecting resources by gathering or killing mobs. Also there will be world secrets that can act like quests, but I'm not sure if they are in game already.

In general the game need much more work as not every aspect is currently finished (including both game play and graphics) but everything that is in game currently is in the right direction. I'm very optimistic that SV will release at least very basic features in polished state.

Pretty graphics and huge draw distance CANNOT disguise an MMO with poor gameplay. If you're looking for 'fun' (a word xbox-generation gamers have difficulty grasping) then I'd personally choose "Darkfail".

It depend what you understand under good game play. For me it is Ultima Online, so I left Darkfall after 4 months because of its dull PvP gameplay. For comparison WoW with his terrible game play have keep my interest for the same time.

And last MO is aiming at real sandbox game play instead of just PvP the same way it was in UO and it is in EvE. This two games are main inspiration of SV developement till Darkfall main inspiration is Shadowbane.

Just found this impressive video on youtube:

 Forced questing?

does that count?

How else would you suggest a story/character to progress?

I like questing, but know quite a few people that like to progress by PvP or just grinding mobs. Questing is not a must, actually

Or just not get the progress as your main target?

For me worst mechanic in MMO is guided and predefined game play that is typical for standalone and especially console games.

Nice screens , would really appreciate if u can do a gameplay video also since your rig is decent from the looks of it.

Ok here it is. But capturing the video was slow down my PC so FPS was dropped a bit and also introduced some hitching while my HDD was scrathing:

I have a few Questions.

1. Are they serious about a Q4 release this year, I mean its only 37 days left in this year and they have a ton of bugs, problems with server stability, and they plan two major patches which will have their own issues?

2. Any announcement of a NA server?

3. Are all the features they promised going to be in before release?

4. System spec minimum for running the game without lag? Is it possible to play the game without lag?

1. From official site: "With this in mind we are approaching release, but the release date is not written in stone. Cynically speaking, the more people interested in and buying the game, the more time we will be able to invest in tweaking, polishing and even add more features before launching it"

2. No

3. They have not promised any features, but just features they are aiming at. Adding one after another from most basic to not so basic features.

4. From official site:

MO System Requirements (an estimation)

Please note that all options and scaling are not yet in the game, meaning the requirements will change over time.

Minimum configuration (1024x768, detail reduced)
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
RAM: 1GB
Video card: ATI Radeon 9800/nVidia GeForce 6600
Video memory 256MB
Hard drive space: 5-25GB

Recommended configuration (1680x1050)
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or equivalent
Video memory: 512MB
Hard drive space: 30GB

On my PC it runs completely lag free when turn off dynamic shadows (have small hitches somethines with them, but mostly bad FPS) with rock stable 30-35 fps. My PC is Athlon 64 X2 6000+, nVidia GF8800GTS, 4GB Ram, Seagate 320GB 7200rpm.

is this with the full graphic support or are parts of it still disabled

I think textures are low quality currently as rocks and terrain, so it do not looks so good at close range, mostly because in first person view objects come very near to your view point.

There are one ugly model :P

Maybe the only point I can accept is about UI that need much improvement, that hopefully will come soon. Especially combat is really realistic and impressive, maybe just need to be a bit more responsive.

Just AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, nVidia 8800GTS 320MB. With max dynamic shadows I get around 20 FPS and over 30 without dynamic shadows

Have those screens been optimized in paintshop for extra eye candy? The graphics look nice but i don't see any player characters :S

The only editing on this screens is that I removed my char name using windows paint (as you can see in the upper left corner). There was only few player wandering around, but the main reason there are no players and NPC is that I have tried tried to get just the landscape beauty.
