I haven't read everything but he seems to like calling people autistic as an insult, I have an autistic family member and would never give this guy a penny of my money, he is an arse.

This game will be an acquired taste for sure, not just because of the death mechanics. I have been playing the beta today and it looks very dated, the character movement is horrible and the animations are very poor, the quest dialog is drier than the sahara.

Hopefully there is a LONG closed beta phase before this game is out.

that's the sort of stuff that will really kill attention to the game.. hopefully it's still very early beta...

It also has built in gamepad support for a PS3 controller, which is interesting, don't know if there is any chance of it landing on console at any point.

It does suck you can't mention it when the game it emulates doesn't even exist anymore, I am sure there is a lawyer somewhere that can tell us why!
This will get deleted too, but yeah I got a warning for it too, shocked me to the core and now I can't function in day to day life.

With a single player game it's different.  A flat box fee, you're done, enjoy the game.  MMOs require upkeep and development.  That takes money, and lots of it.

Servers don't function on hopes and dreams.  Technicians don't maintain those servers just for the giggles.  Developers don't put in long hours at the office just for gold stars on their report cards.

Where else would you rather an MMO company get their money from? Bake sales? Car washes? How about a nickel and dime cash shop where you have to buy bullets for your pistol at $1 a box of 100?  I bet after a day of grinding xp you'd be back to complaining again.

Cut back on the McDonalds, Starbucks, and further streamline your budget to find that extra $15 a month.  Ask your mommy for more allowance.

How many $60 games do you buy and then burn through the content in a weekend?

It's not rocket science, people.

See I buy plenty £40 games in a year and maybe get 20 hours out of them at best, but when this year FIFA13 releases and is £45 instead of £40, I will not buy it. CoD is also £5 more expensive than any other game, for no other reason than Activision know that people are buying the game regardless so why not charge an extra 5er?

Part of the argument here is "why pay more for a game that really offers nothing to justify the higher price?"

In the UK an MMO sub will cost me £8.99, for TSW it will cost me £11.49.

I can afford the extra £2.50, but I am not going to pay it. I bought the box game, played for a month and enjoyed it, but with a subscription higher than any other game I won't pay the extra, especially since this game also has a cash shop.

TSW offers nothing to justify it costing more than any other MMO, so as a matter of principle I will not pay the extra.

Most people can easily afford the extra but if we all just accept what is being shoved down our throats then it will become the norm.

If this game had been priced at £8.99 a month, I probably would have subscribed and I wouldn't have ended up back in WoW to get my MMO fix each week.

I play but only 2-5 hours a week currently.

In my opinion GW2 would have been a great game to just do away with traditional levels, when I look at the map I see zones listed with level ranges on them. When I go back to them they are still pretty easy even though I am scaled down because I have better armor, traits and more abilities.

I really wish they had just not included levels, so when I go back to an older zone its still easy ish, I have still become more powerful through acquiring abilities, traits and armor but when I look at the map I don't see an arbitrary number, when I enter the zone I don't see my level get scaled back.

Current High level zones would still be the same they just wouldn't have a number on it, someone walks in and gets hammered by the mobs they know they need more abilities, better armor and more traits, come back later.

It just strikes me as odd, everything I do while not max level in GW2 I am being scaled up or down to take part in, why not just be done with this number next to my name?

I know this doesn't really answer the OP but I think it would help the world feel a bit more alive, no one looks at the map and sees number plonked on zones, no one is downgraded when going back to a zone, if you dont get downgraded you don't feel as much like you are doing something that's beneath you.

You should get a refund, it isn't likely going to get much better than this. Considering it's only getting a two week 'alpha' mostly to entice people to buy their way into it.

I think they have extended alpha now, on the website when you buy the game it says alpha access now, there is no mention of beta starting.

Sounds to me like the game world is not big enough to seem like an end of world scenario currently. If you overpopulate a game like this it becomes a deathmatch and nothing else.

At least in DayZ I can pretty easily avoid other players for hours on end if I want to.

A lefty playing from a righty's perspective! Feet in the position of shooting from right handed, you would never swing your torso like that to take a standing still shot! If your a lefty you would always have the right shoulder in the lead!  It looks ok, but it looks like an uncordinated person trying to shoot! Yea picky stuff I know, but I like realism!

You like realism but you are watching videos of a Fantasy set game?

Ewww.....

I personally can't stand isometric views.  I think you end up feeling completely detached from your character.  Glad it's a choice but I'll never use it.

it's not a choice, it's a bug is it not?

I never understood why people want to play mmos like isometric games and I've seen so many people play WoW like that.

I used to play WoW with a guy that played fully zoomed in to first person perspective, I never understood that but he thought it was great.

I am still playing the game but more sporadically than I have ever played any MMO ever.

I played for 12 hours over 2 days a couple of weeks ago, last week I played 2 hours, this weekend I played half an hour. Tonight I plan to play for 3 hours or so with a friend.

I keep making new characters, I can't decide anything, but I don't feel rushed and I don't feel the need to catch up with anyone either, I am just playing the game when I feel like it and generally messing around.

Probably not the type of customer Anet wanted since I won't buy anything in the shop thing but I can tell I will be playing in some manner for a long time to come, bored with some other game? play GW2 for a bit, nothing on TV and no money? play GW2 for a bit. It fills a void pretty nicely.

My guild is still active with people playing every day for 4 + hours so I would imagine that the population on our server is pretty similar to many others, everything seems fine and dandy.

If people couldn't discuss things that they are not an expert in then life would be pretty boring.

Every conversation I would have would be about IT Infrastructure and OS Image deployment/creation in a medium and large scale business environment.

FUCK, kill me now.

Sure there are people around that take things to the extreme and just live for winding up others, plenty of these people exist in real life as well as on the internet, you just have to learn how to deal with them and avoid them if necessary.

Looks great, would love to play the game like that!

The e-mail clearly states that the beta will begin on the 29th and that people will be invited in waves.

They probably won't let many people in the first wave, just be patient and if you get a code, GREAT, if not then just keep waiting.

If this is even remotely close to being like "Dark Souls Online" then I will be a very happy guy!

Permadeath sounds like an interesting idea on paper. Hardcore players want that adrenaline rush that comes with the fear of loss. However, not everyone feels that way, as there are practical problems with permadeath.

For starters, most people are aware that in an online game you will experience connection issues. Nobody wants to lose 100's of hours of work to lag or a disconnect. There is no real way to prevent players from experiencing these issues and, given enough time, you will eventually lose your character to them.

Then there's the issue of risk VS. reward. Many people will 'play it safe' and simply grind lower level encounters to prevent untimely deaths. This causes the game to become really boring and people end up quitting. To prevent this, you have to reward people appropriately. This however, is almost impossible, as you have to make any single encounter worth as much as every single previous encounter combined.

You may think that's a bit unfair, and I agree, to an extent. While people enjoy playing video games, without any sort of progression, the game becomes little more than a fantasy FPS; die, respawn, die, respawn... etc. Progression means work, and people will tire of working for the same things over and over again, especially if the reward for success is little more than their previous encounter.

I think people are just tired of zero or near-zero death penalties in MMO's. That doesn't mean the solution is to implement its polar opposite, as that will cause just as many problems for most players.

Underlined and Italics.

If you feel that way then why bother even trying to play a permadeath game? There are many games that don't have this feature available. This game is designed to have permadeath, it doesn't care how you feel about that.
