First off, I've been playing MMO's since the day Ultima Online came out. I've messed with them all.

A buddy of mine sent me a Scroll of Resurrection and asked me to come back to play. I got to level 5 within 20-30 minutes and was about to go do the boss in the Dwarven starting zone when two players surrounded me. One was spamming scallywag and hopping around me, I quickly ignored him, the other runs up and says "Hey Faggot! followed by my character name.

This is the main reason I left in the first place quite a few years back, I can't believe that it's actually gotten worse!

I'm a guy in my mid 40's and I can't see how anybody could actually pay 15 bucks a month to be abused by players like this.

I'm going back to EQ1, EQ2 and Vanguard. Fuck WoW!

I played WoW for 6 years on and off and nothing like that ever happened to me.

Wish it was that long for me OP, so far I haven't bought anything since GW2, I probably got enough play time out of that for it not to be a total waste of money but I haven't bought anything in the MMORPG genre since then and so far there doesn't seem to be anything worth buying at all.

I've found a lot of people who say MMOs are too "easy" are 10+ year veterans who, after this amout of time, should damn well be quite skilled at playing them.

If it is still "hard" after 10 years, you're doing it wrong...

You make a good point and I sadly fall into this group. After 16 years or so playing MMO's, even longer playing games in general on top of being an active member in many gaming communities and even working with a few developers over the years... I know to much. I say I know to much because most games hold very little mystery for me anymore. I know what the thought process was when the content and mechanics were designed. I know how to disect games and their mechanics.

I'm the type that likes to solo mostly now days or stick with small groups not because I'm anti social, but because I like to try and solo group content. I've actually managed to solo a good bit of group content in most games, some requiring a good bit of effort, while others not so much. On content I can't solo I try to do it with as few people as possible. I've taken myself and 2 others and completed content designed for 5 and some times 10 people.

And no, when I say a game or content is to easy I'm not attempting to laud it over anyone. I'm not attempting to proclaim myself superior lol. I ,like everyone else, want to be entertained and challenge for me is entertaining. I can only seek out so much challenge myself though. The developers have to meet me half way for a truly entertaining experience.

You make a great point here, I worked as a QA Tester on GTA:San Andreas and although this is slightly different from just playing games it serves the same purpose. GTA4 is the same game as GTA SA as far as I am concerced, my brain approaches the missions in the same way, I know how the guys constructed the world, I know the level designers and how they created the mission, there is no mystery in a GTA game for me any more. I spent a year of my life playing GTA for a living. I still enjoy playing a GTA game every now and then but they are not challenging in the slightest now.

People don't believe me when I say that GTA is just a copy and paste with a different skin each time and maybe to the normal gamer it doesn't seem like that but I spent a year of my life playing it for about 10 hours a day 7 days a week.

I realise that's not the same as a normal gamer but after years of the same type of games it get's to a similar level, you know how to bypass awkward mechanics, you know the tricks, you know how you want to play, there is no mystery any more.

I think it's weird they are even using the APB name, for most gamers it conjures memories of the fastest? ever failure of an MMO and a game that sent one company completely to oblivion.

Does it have a big following now? I must admit I haven't looked at it at all since it went under the first time and I am sure a lot of other people are the same. Seems odd to market something with such a tainted reputation.

When developers start making HARD difficulties actually hard I will go back to playing them on the hardest settings. Most games these days HARD = they have more health, you have less, you have less ammo/mana/whatever.

I remember playing SOCOM4 on the hardest setting and the only difference from normal was you would die in 2 hits and enemies would die in 20 hits, so boring it's unreal.

Dark Souls is considered by many to be a hard game but people I know that usually only play shooters online and other blockbuster games have slogged through it to completion because it only offers one difficulty, the game is as difficult as the game is, there is no making it harder or easier other than the way you decide to approach it. I'd be happy if more games had one difficulty and that was it, take it or leave it. People will end up playing the game for longer rather than powering through it in 8 hours and never touching it again.

Also I don't want to have to complete the game 3 times to unlock whatever hard more you have hidden away, gating difficult content and creating a meaningless grind it stupid.

I have the forums open quite a lot at work but these side ads for Scarlet Blade are pushing it a bit.

I can't really use my work computer at any part of my day ( even dsignated breaks ) to view this site any more with ads as blatant as this.

This mechanic existed in Demon's Souls on the PS3.

The boss at the end of World 3-1 I think? When a player was getting close to the boss another player would be summoned, that player would take control of the boss with all his normal abilities and try to kill the player, the player attacking the boss fights as normal but the fight is now much harder/easier because another player is in control.

It really was fantastic, if you defeated the player as the boss you got some special items, it was really good fun and meant that although that boss always had the same abilities it was never the same each time you fought him.

Blizzard said so.

I'm actually excited about this, mostly because of the pricing model.  MTG's clunky interface and absurd prices kept me from enjoying it, and if this game gets popular, I could see myself battling other players all day long.

The one thing I'm not thrilled about is mac support over consoles, and ipad but no android.  Bliz has some strange love of apple that makes no sense.  Get with the times guys.

it is not mac support over consoles, have you looked at any blizzard game recently? they all release on Mac OS at the same time as Windows.

I've played the MTG games on PS3 and liked them well enough but didn't care much for the characters or lore so I will probably play this at some point, it's not like it's going to be anyones main game is it?

Thanks, folks! I wonder if it's possible to disable the mouse altogether and go just keyboard.  I'll try that this weekend.

How are you going to aim at your target with the mouse turned off?

The quest can be done solo.

EDIT:- There are fewer puzzles now. I had to remove a few puzzle and make some simpler. This was because of complaints that they get stuck whenever they face puzzles. I will add them later quests when people are weaned away from linear quests and get used to nonlinear quests.

And now you understand why companies make their games dumb-proof and console-like?

I for one wish you had never "nerfed" your dungeon, but you're just being a mini-EA to please the masses. And if you could makemoney out of it, you'd have nerfed them even further so even complete idiots could play it and leave their cash on your pocket.

Lesson learned, I hope.

What's the view like from up there on your high horse?

It's "Blizzard All Stars" MOBA thing... so nothing to see here, move along...

Problem is that was already announced, this a trailer and everything some time ago so it's not "New".   I would be super dissapointed if it is that.

The guys on reddit have said blizzard have confirmed it's not all-stars (dota) via battle.net recently - though they didin't give a source.

Me too, but mostly because I am terrible at MOBAs, like watching them but just can't commit the time to not sucking.

9 million players global, with 7 million asian players

This is actually correct.

WoW in the west is not as big as people think. It just has, like Diablo, a small group of very vocal fans.

It's just dwarfed by games like League of Legends.

Comparing F2P game like LOL with WOW? genuis! ofcourse it is going to dwarf WOW. Even Runescape has more players. but we are talking about P2P category here.

And like someone else asked earlier..got any thing to back up the claims that 7 million out of 9 million players come from asia?

Doogie is correct, comparing a free game to a paid for game is ridiculous. If you want to compare a free game to a paid game then count the free games accounts and count the paid games accounts is about as close as you will get to being accurate. WoW has 9 million ish players but how many players do you think it has had? LoL stats include me as a player because I created an account and played one game, WoW stats don't include me because I haven't played the game for 6 months now.

The split between east and west is more like 60/40 than 7mil vs 2mil.

Blizzard is really good at selling products and making little cut scene movies but retaining customers, they bad. Aren't total WOW numbers down to like 9 million from 12 last year? That's around 25% drop!

Customer retention on blizzard games is probably something other developers touch themselves at the thought of mimicing.

People still play Diablo 1 and 2, Starcraft and Brood War are still played by many, people still play Warcraft 3 and the original Dota mod for it, WoW has 9 million active players(over 3 million western subs at £8.99 a month), Starcraft 2 WoL and HoTS are hugely popular all over the world and have people playing them for a real life jobs.

The only lemon in the bunch is Diablo 3, the retention on that must have been horrendous.

I think as long as they can keep milking WoW they won't release a new game.  They're already talking about another expansion for WoW so it's going to be at least another couple years before Titan comes out at that rate.

I can understand they wouldn't want to cause a mass exodus from WoW but at the same time they can't leave it so long that people lose interest altogether.  I think there is a large audience of people who have played WoW and have moved on but would still go back and play whatever the next MMO blizzard release is. If they hang about too long those players move on completely from games or get invested in something else.

They will have to strike a balance between both but I am sure they will be milking WoW for years to come alongside whatever game they release next.

Yep this is blizzards last chance to make any money since everything they have released since Warcraft 3 has failed so hard.......

Seriously, is this site filled with people that like to argue for the sake of arguing? Read the underlined in what you quoted. One of the best indie games released in the last 10 years is Mount and Blade, so dont think I dont know about small studios or discount them. There was nothing said to hint at it being done.

Are you really a member here and asking this question? MMORPG.com forums are PvP forums.

Actually no I didnt know, im new...guess I better go gear up.

I recommend a good flame suit!

I suspect that RG might be speaking the truth but without the media savvy to realise that his words will be taken in some parts out of context and in other ways for the arrogance that they show.  I mean  this man does have some delusions of grandeur, he changed his name recently to add "De Cayeux" to the end of his name.  Bless him he really does want to live in a medieval world though he also paid to go into space which I am sure many would do if they could afford it.

There is truth in the core of his words many of the early designers had been playing PnP rpg's for many years had lived with visions and story creation so that by the time they were making games for computers they were already steeped in a system of creation, I suspect that many of the newer generation grow up playing computer games and perhaps dreaming of what they would like to do but that is very different from actually creating something, it is playing someone elses ideas.  To the extent many of the new young designers  do not go through the apprenticeship of World and story design that the old designers went through.

Perhaps there needs to be a resurgence of PnP rpg's.

I have worked in the games indsutry and currently work in a University that offers games courses. If you think that all they get taught is how to mimic other peoples ideas you are mistaken. They study everything AAA games, board games, pen and paper, pinball, foosball, mobile games. There are two 48 hour game jams every year, students are encouraged to work over the summer on their own games and given the resources to do it. They study peoples responses to games, they work with every type of control scheme you can imagine including full 3d and VR.

It's not like they come in and are thown a role, you are a programmer, you are an artist. If the person has the drive to become a designer they have to be aware and competent in every role and the tools are there. There are many people that are excelling just because they aren't churning out AAA games every year doesn't mean they don't exist.

The people I saw developing the game I worked on were some of the most talented people I have ever worked beside with drive and passion to be the best in their field.
