I dont think they are failing, just  appeal to a niche in the MMO market. Will be interesting to see what type if game can appeal to a broader audience and  really be considered the next real "big game", or if that WoW kinda success can ever be truly recreated.

Im gonna give both a go. I am looking forward to STO more, BUT really am jazzed about TOR. To me its a win win.

They are just now getting into polishing the ground combat. Cryptic wanted to nail down the space combat before they dove head first into the gound game.

I was in beta, well my friends friend was, and his computer of d00/\/\ which can rule the world it's that awesome, couldn't even run this crappy game and the graphics are horrible and there is a memory leak, and oh yeah, the gameplay sucks too.  This game is an epic fail as far a PvP goes too, it is the lamest evah!

 

 

That's why he quit beta so he could tell everyone to save their money.

With so many races portrayed in each series it would have been impossible to come up with all of them. Instead of pigeonholing you into  one of a handful of races they are giving you the chance to be whatever race you have seen or wanted to see in the Star Trek Universe. That sounds very trek like to me.

Two points:

1 - They will, eventually, offer game-changing items for sale. Novelty items won't generate enough sales for them.

2 - They will devote time and effort into the cash items that should be going into the core game.

Well... Gamestop has a habit of guesstimating it's release dates so I wouldn't take that date as gospel just yet.

Sorry for the double post , but I just wanted to point out the 2/2/2010 date is a Street Date which means the Publisher has set the date, not the retailer. That doesn't mean it cant be moved as it is an MMO and delays for longer betas have happened before.

I have my CE full paid already

As long as its fluff and cosmetic options I have NO problem with it. As long and it does not allow people to pay their way to the top I dont see what the big deal is.

Seriously, as long as it is just cosmetic I dont have a problem with it at all. I highly doubt you will be able to buy an "elite bridge officer", or some uber weapon, as that would unbalance the game and virtually destroy it, and Cryptic is smarter than that. Its just another way to gain revenue and that all cycles back into the game development and funding more content being added into the game. To me its a win win. Will I buy items? Sure,most likely Ill buy some cosmetic ship parts or uniforms. I get things I want Cryptic makes money that allows the game im playing to stay running, again, for me its a win win situation. Until I see it become a way to "buy your way to the top" (witch again, I HIGHLY DOUBT), Im not gonna panic or give it another thought. Most MMOS have some form of Micro Transactions (oh god I said the dreaded words!!), but just call it something else and people dont even give it a second thought until the dreaded words are spoken. In a increasingly competitive MMO market get use to seeing it ,as they need all they can get to keep the ship afloat and running with the high development costs of making and running  an MMO.
