Poll: Do you want FFXIV to be aimed at the casual user the same way that WoW is?

As for that answer, pretty sure most WoW clones said the same thing, "we won't be the same, we will be different in XYZ ways". you guys don't get Squre-Enix at all if you think this game will be easy. I promise it will be very very hard. Even in FFXI they added some instant gratification content. Square-Enix doesn't make games for westerners... EVER. This game will be made with the japanese audience in mind, I can promise you that. |

What you can do with a decent PC and FFXI =)... Beautiful if I do say so myself... Looks better then THAT OTHER GAME HAHAHA... looks better then most MMO's and its older then most too. |

I would rather "grind" xp in FFXI any day of the week over mind numbingly boring Quests based leveling that has become so popular since wow came out. |

Just like it is natural for some people to cheer for the underdog, it is also natural for some people to hate anyone who wins alot. The Wrath sales numbes speak for themselves. 4M people in North American and Europe think enough of WOW to buy 'more of the same' in the first month. 2.8M of them on the first day. Forget China and Korea, forget the fact that the 'vanilla' box is still in the top 20 in game sales.. 4M people are playing ENDGAME.
and "end game" is all it has... this term was really started by wow where the get there quicker and do whtaever faster, don't wanna work for it mentality was has festered and spread like wild fire... Its fine you like WoW but keep that shit to yourself, no one wants ez mode spreading to their games, or to have you come to OUR games and go, "This isn't like WoW at all, can I have battlegrounds please?" |

WoW has always been to easy... the reason people played EQ and UO for so long is because everything wasn't handed to you on a silver plater.. you didn't login and have gear delivered in your mail box... you didnt have XP handed to you... You had to work at it over a long amount of time and enjoy the adventure... having goals was fine and all, but it wasn't what the game was built around... Same for FFXI. those that play the game have been doing so for 3-5 years on average i'd say. Just because a game has 11 million subs doesnt make it good... Just advertised the best.
WoW isnt that great. It reinvints itself with eveyr expansion basically making all the content before the expansion pointless... Other games in the past didn't do that, and the content that was launched when FFXI first came out is still tackled by players today... However thats good for our ADD generation.. WoW is never the best, just the best at what it does... Attracting NEW and Casual MMO Players. In the mean time forgetting all of the players that made the MMO market what it was before WoW, and making everything "casual" friendly. |

Ouch... you can even loot a Town? That's gotta hurt!

I mainly made this thread because some kept on saying that Full Loot PvP was no big deal because gear would be easy to replace. They were saying that it would only take you a little bit to get back up and running again. They were saying that you just go to your Bank and get your spare... and you are set.
Well... I think that Tasos' comments make it perfectly clear that there WILL be some items that get looted from you that WILL hurt. They will take a LONG, LONG, time to replace. There will indeed be a very nasty sting to loosing some items.
That was the point. Some items (Towns, Ships, Rare Dungeon loot, etc.) are going to be very, very, costly and will take a very long time with many people to accrue enough resources to build them or find them. IF those items get looted from you... IT WILL HURT... A LOT!
Good, and it should hurt... otherwise whats the point of PvP... BRING IT ON! P.S. I play EVE and am very use to full loot pvp and find no other way to PvP worth my time. |

Originally posted by maxstone YES... I AGREE! Hopefully, that item will be allowed to be put in the Bank. That is a follow-up question that I wished they had asked. Can every item that can be looted be put into your Bank? Obviously there will be limitations on the amount of items a person can store... but hopefully, there will not be limitations on what kind of items can be stored there. If it can looted from your body... you should be able to place it in your Bank.
With Tasos' statement on the bigger War Ships taking weeks to build with many resources and many people... that would be another item that I'd be very cautious taking out of the Bank.
Obviously there WILL be some items that are going to hurt quite a bit if they are taken from you. It will be interesting to see how the current generation of MMO players adapts to this.
They probably won't aside from the people actually playing Darkfall....Darkfall will probably only be a niche game, not a revolution in the industry. Thank God, it'll sit for the typical 18-24 month life-cycle all niche games seem to run, then it will close.
you my friend have no clue... EVE has only been running for 18-24 months and is going no where right? WRONG there are people who WANT this type of game... I've been dieing for a Fantasy based game like this... While I love EVE i'm not a SCI-FI person. I always said if a fantasy game came out i'd be gone.. This is it... There will be plenty of us who pay to play if the game holds up to its part of the deal. There is nothing wrong with what EVE has and absolutley nothing wrong with being a niche market and 200k subscribers... CCP is doing great, i'm sure if adventurine does what they say they are going to, they will make enough money to make themselves happy and their hopeful fans. |

full loot is FINE... it WILL work in this context just as it works amazingly well in EVE Online... Don't want to PvP? Fine stay in whatever Earthrise deems "Empire" but stop coming to OUR games and demanding your WoW like carebear fun... If you want carebear fun go find your game... Not every developer sets out to have 10 million subscribers... CCP didnt do it, and I don't think anyone can complain about the amount of success they are having... Aslong as masthead ignores the Carebears we'll be fine... otherwise this game will just be another POS that is released like the last 47 mmo's to come out since WoW change the way we see MMO's. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Crashes Decreased, Leveling Increased

Welllll.... I agree with you on that bit in blue, but it's not entirely the developers' fault. Many players nowadays are "pre-programmed" with the "level to end-game as fast as possible" mentality. They *can't* enjoy themselves enough to not be concerned with the leveling pace, because the leveling pace is one of their biggest concerns. If I had a dime for every time I've seen these questions/comments... - "How long does it take to get to level cap?" I'm going to take a guess and say that you're one of the type for whom the game is about enjoying the journey, and not merely getting to the destination? If so, I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately, since MMOs have become popularized, they've attracted more of the "play, finish and move on" type who used to avoid MMOs. Thus, the MMOs have become more geared toward those types. "More reward", "less effort", "faster leveling" and "more soloable" are the new "design law", it seems, in MMOs. It wasn't until WoW came along and was such a hit that you began to see the trend in MMO design changing to what it is now. And, really, the blame lies as much with the players... they voted with their dollars.. and what they voted for wasn't for the journey... but for "getting to the end as fast as possible". So that's what they get. A "slow leveling pace" is only perceived as such by people in a hurry to level up as quickly as possible. To those simply playing and enjoying the game, the pacing of the levels isn't a major concern... as long as they're having fun along the way.
I'm right with you... Square-Enix is our last true hope i think... because over my 5 years of FFXI i've learned that no matter how much we cry they rarely make things easier... and if they do its not by very much(see the XP required to level to 75 hahaha)... after 5x75 leveling a craft to 100, fishing to 100, and pretty much every piece of gear I could want... I patiently wait for Squares new MMO in hopes that its the mmo saver I've been looking for =(. Square-Enix is one of the few companies that I've seen in the MMO industry that stands by making a good game over their bottom line and stay true to their fanbase and not try to appease the wow fanbois... As seen in the Absolute Virtue mess they'd rather lose subs then change their beliefs, which is great in this day and age of MMO'... They also realize there is nothing wrong with 250k subscribers and I'm sure they are not sad at all by the amount of money they have made off FFXI. |

I am in the same boat, although former FFXI vet and not a SWG pre-nge vet(although i did play it very briefly) and actually looking forward to the Pre-NGE SWG project being worked on and can not wait for it. The problem I have found is nothing feels EPIC anymore... its nothing but a bunch of go here, kill x mobs, quest based gaming which leads to a half assed end game that bores me to tears... I miss the epicness of FFXI, the missions, the side quests, all of the content the game provided... Does ryzom have this feeling? I'm ok with it taking YEARS to reach max level.. I just wish i could find something that fits... I've tried all the new games, its time to go back to the old games and see what they are all about that I haven't played. |

This, I am ok with people playing WoW, and I don't hate WoW or Blizzard itself... I hate what it has done to the MMO market since it was released and I hate how all the fanboi's try and push WoW mechanics onto EVERY game that comes out... Developers should create a game because its their vision and they will have a much longer and successful life span. CCP has done well for themselves and they aren't trying to soak up the WoW players. Other people can to, if they just get out of the copy cat visions and do something origianl and new. There are those of us that like long grinds, and epicly hard missions that takes month or even years to complete. That is why some of us started playing MMO's and I wish to god someone would create something for us. I'm affraid that Darkfall is our last true hope, and if it doesnt release on the 22nd of Jan. I dunno what I'll do. Probably give up on MMO's all together or just go back and play older games that I know still offer what I'm looking for. Allah EQ1 or FFXI |
