The problem with story based MMOs

Originally posted by Draccan I agree that if you had more starter area and server, that would lessen thestated problem. However, I've played enough MMORPGs in my time at higher levels that I still run into the same problems mentioned above. So, I agree a system that has a well balanced mix of open gme play and instances is the best solution. Anyhow, so far the only game that came close to doing what we're talking about was SWG-PerCU it was an open zone with a few instances and it was great. It had many of the suggestion you stated, however you still had the issue of camping a site and the other issue as stated by Reiketsu which is why instancing helped. Its to bad we have all these WoW clones coming out and no-one really trying to come-up with somethign better.

Could a pre-CU style KotOR / SWG2 work in this day and age?

Hi all,
I actually think a pre-cu KOTOR / SWG2 or other Sci-fi could do pretty good. The reason being

To answer your 1st TKA was one of the best profession and ideas I've seen, and was done well for the most part. To answer your other point "Son a good .45 Slug traveling at 500mph beats a guy with a Kung-Fu any day of the week!" is only true if you are a good shot and haven't run out of ammo, becuase in either case your screwed once the "Kung-Fu guy" gets to you and you don't know how to fight....LOL. Hi all, I thought TKA was one of the best profession around, and I pretty much kept it once I made TKM back when I started playing the game in Sept of 2003. It was more than a profession for me because it played a key role in my Avatars bio and because I earned back when it was tough to get , especially when you couldn't afford buffs. In fact, I was relieved when they made the changes to Jedi to make it were your toon can become a Jedi instead of an alt [had to due with RP]; although I didn't like the fact I would have to give up TKM. I was even going to keep TKM and go TKM / Force powers as my template, but then the CU came out and screwed it up, so I went all Jedi. [Note: As far as its history and purpose; I never thought it was a profession to hunt Jedi, but rather a class that was developed to help guard against Dark and Fallen Jedi]. Anyhow, there only a few things that could have made to make this prof. more playiable and better. My 2 favorite class combo was TKM / BE and TKM / Master Rifleman. Also, melee combat in Pre-CU SWG was done the best, than any other MMORPG I've seen so far.

Hi, Actually I think this is just the new clone wars series he is making using CG. This is part of 2 or 3 projects he is working on. 1. Clone Wars CG TV series 2. Live action TV series 3. Possibly hour long [or more] TV movies. Although, some are hoping this is a cover for a new SW movie.

Why Bioware doing KOTOR might not be such a good thing
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/26/07 12:01:35 PM
Hi all, I would very much like another sandbox / skill based game with both open game content and some directed content, and something similar to Pre_CU SWG. But, at this point in time I'd play a KOTOR MMORPG that was level based game. It would help a hell of alot if it was multi-class and didn't have the usual level restrictions to gameplay.
