FTLOG let the game die....the developers showed their true colors when they added stamina. I was in beta 1/2 and was delighted with the game so much I planned on spending money on costumes to support it. Then they added stamina and I lost all interest.

Imo Bioware will have to put a lot of work into gear to make swtor sucessfull. \

Lmao when are non gamers going to realize that once you are a gamer it's final....thers no going back.....no rehab.

once you catch it it's permanent.

Thers no age you run into where you wake up and suddenly realize you don't want to immerse yourself in a fantasy realm. It's akin to being a bookworm.

It isn't some disease that can be managed with therapy sessions. It's a fundamental change in what you expect as enjoyment.

Battlecruiser 3000.

nuf said....I win.

Games that awed me.

Dune 2

Starcontrol

X-Com

Tachyon the Fringe

Freelancer

Imperium Galactica 2

Independence war 1/2

Wing Commander 3

Starfleet command 1/2/OP

FFXI

FF7

Chrono Cross (PS)

Homeworld 1/2

The list is far too long, but I'd have to say the last game to truly wow me was Assassins Creed. It is simply amazing.

The only way I can see Cryptic doing anything noteworthy is in being scrapped. Grab the talent and transfer them to PWI.

Then give the NW contract to PW.

And for crying out loud scrap cryptic's engine....it's garbage. There is probably some good code to be salvaged but not much. Modify The PWI engine instead.

Cryptic has some XP in making P2P mmorpg's PW should use that XP. Put Cryptic's team to work immediately on modifying the PW engine to use multithreading and OpenCL.

DroidX this looks awesome. Need key

Probably DDO....although I will never play it again.

Clearly the downfall of Cryptic was Atari failing to invest programming efforts into engine improvments prior to the development of CO or STO.

Both of thoes games needed serious engine improvments prior to game development above and beyond what little Cryptic had done.

Atari pays Cryptic and approves expenses and timelines. They are the only entity to blame for the Cryptic disaster.

GW2 will still have multiplayer mechanics.  most classes will have some sort of support role that can be specced.

You have Mh/Oh/SA which gives kind of a tri spec versatility within the class you've picked.

For example in a 2v2 match with a Gaurdiam/Thief setup I imagine a good team might have the Thief set up for invisibility and spike damage, while the Gaurdian would have something to help keep the thief alive if he's double teamed while giving himself all the defensive bonuses he can pack on. basically the sharper sword approach. Thief makes the kills and Gaurdian keeps him on his feet.

Try to keep in mind how creative Anet was with GW1 skills and apply that to gw2.

The gifting of abilities could create some killer combo's like an invisible touch based necro that has Guardian support.

Rangers pet could blow traps, ranger switches to melee....thers no telling what all the possibilities are. There will undoubtably be tactics for every class depending on skill and weapon setup.

Actually, since GW2 hasn't released yet, there's still no really successful sequels to any MMORPG's yet.

And one could argue that GW2 is such a radical change from the CORPG that GW1 was its not really a sequel at all.

As others have said, unless you kill the old game 1st, it only draws away from the potential player base.

I remember my neighbor and his daughter were big AC1 fans, and got in early on AC2 beta testing (and really tested it hard) and their conclusion, AC1 was more fun (because they had all their characters there, and sort of were kings of the world so to speak) and they decided they were going to stick with it instead.

I wouldn't say GW2 isn't a huge change from what GW1 was. But at the heart of GW1 was Incredibly fun PVP. Sure the storyline was cool and tracking down all my skills and armor was cool but the endgame PVP was what kept me playing.

As long as Anet sticks to the rock paper scissors approach to class balancing PVP in GW2 will continue to be as fun as it was in GW1.  The PVE gameplay in GW1 was done pretty well as long as Anet dosen't cut corners it should turn out pretty good also.

The sucess of minecraft points to developers doing entirely too much to appease the masses and failing because of it.

I'd have to say terror and suspense from FFXI. My first time in Quifm was especially memorable

I am seriously hyped for GW2's world PVP. I lost most interest in swtor with the space on rails announcment.

PVP only ruins things if the result is a complete balancing of all the classes. For it to work well there has to be a rock/paper/scissors type approach to class balance, and the scale of pvp should allow many different playstyles/combinations to be effective....IMO

yea FFXIV really gave me a lump on the head too....But I really think Arenanet gets it. their huge world battleground with dynamic defenses and guild owned terrain is going to be super cool.

Edit* What do you mean GW1 sucked???? the PVP in GW is the golden standard. Some of the matches I had were epic fun.

I have pretty much the same sentiments as you. I think it's because in general the people responsible for making decisions following a fairly sucessful game are either kidnapped and brainwashed by Sony Entertainment, or no longer in charge.

Actually I am having trouble quantifying the reason for your dilema. EQ2 became a treadmill of epic proportions. FFXIV became a piece of ******g dog crap, and I honestly think War was released 6 months too early.

I'v played many mmo's and I can't really say I ever enjoyed ever having to solo. The most enjoyable and memorable experiences I'v had have been with friends. Either at their behest, Doing something for me, or doing something together.

Having some things to do in game by yourself is fine, but IMO all games should be designed around a social dynamic that rewards cooperation and a strong community.
