What I am looking for is a current time consumer, and a future fallback plan... that has decent PvP that I can get into within a months time.
If that's what you're looking for, GW might be your cup of tea. If you don't buy the PvP edition of GW, it will take you some time to unlock skills for PvP, but there are some articles here and there that give you an idea what skills to unlock first (most common ones). Also, you will need to unlock weapon and armour mods.

I don't know if you know this, but there are 3 GW games and 1 expansion. Since you like PvP, I would suggest buying the very first Guild Wars (Prophecies), since that has some rather useful skills for PvP.

If you are planning to buy 2 games, go for Prophecies, and then either:

GW Factions, which adds Alliance Battles as a new PvP feature. Alliance Battles are battles on different maps, 12 vs 12 people.

GW Nightfall, which adds Hero Battles as a new PvP feature. Hero Battles is 1 vs 1, but each person gets 3 Heroes (NPCs) to help. The Heroes are configurable.

It depends what play style you like most, really. If you like 1 vs 1, take Nightfall as a second game. If you like larger battles, take Factions as the second one.

The average Joe and Jack who only want to play for free are not among the most welcome batch of first visitors.

This is an assumption I have problems with. Joe and Jack want to trial the game. Who says they want to play for free?

Yeah cause all single player games, console games, and all non mmorpg games come with free trials and test accounts.  Give me a break.  Open betas were designed to stress test a game and catch any errors that might happen at the actual launch.  These game companies don't owe you anything.

Most non-MMO games have demos you can download, so you can get a peek at the game.

I share the sentiment of the OP. No demo or trial, and I'm not going to buy it anymore. Especially when I look at the quality of released games in general in the last few years.

The lack of a trial usually pushes me into thinking the company isn't too confident with their game.

My thoughts exactly. If a game doesn't have a trial or demo, there's probably something wrong with it.

Not a very well done review, in my opinion. Like some others have stated, I'm missing comments about the limited amount of tile sets.

Not only that, but some stuff is inaccurate too. This one for example. I'm quoting the reviewer:

"The upgrade to the Subscription Account grants you the following:

Additional Character Slots"

Not true, they changed that some months ago.

All the bot does is simply level the playing field and remove the boring grind allowing the user to progress constantly and still be able to play the game for fun when he/she wants to.

While I think the idea of adding legal bots sounds interesting and daring, I keep wondering...Why not make a MMO without any grind to start with? Why should the solution to grind be: 'let's add methods to make grinding easier' and not 'let's remove grind alltogether'. I am really curious as to how the dev team came up with this particular solution to grind, because to me, it seems such an illogical solution.

The GMs have said the main thought behind the bot is to level the playing field, no matter what yor circumstances are you can still be as "avtive" in the game as the next guy, it doesn't matter if your working or not you wont be left behind and nobody will get ahead. Basically everyone has the same leveling time as each other, thus making it a level playing field for everyone.

If it's about 'leveling the playing field', the same logic applies: why not make a game that doesn't have levels that you need to increase? It's kind of like the devs thought: 'every MMO on the market has levels, so our game will have them too'. *Devs go off and make a generic MMO with levels*. And then it's 'oh wait, but leveling needs to be done in a way that it isn't grindy and that the leveling field is equal for everyone. Let's add bots!'. Instead of 'we want to make a non-grindy game where the leveling field is equal, so we make an MMO without levels'. I just can't help but think that this way of thinking (the bot solution) is rather peculiar.

As far as push backs go: it's both good and bad news. The good news is that the game might (might!) even be worth playing with all the polish. The bad news is: if a game gets delayed over and over again, they either have some serious core technical issues that they haven't managed to solve for ages already, or that there's something really wrong on the planning/organization side, which is dire news for future updates and customer support.

Delays still don't garantuee a working, relatively bug free game that is polished.

First AoC gets delayed like three times.

Then WAR.

And now TCoS.

TCoS has been pushed back several times as well. Last time was last year, where the open beta was supposedly to start around April/May/June (2007). And that wasn't the first time it was pushed back. I stop checking the forums until the game actually releases.

Well, maybe they're saving the best for later. We still have some months to go, so I'll hold any final opinion 'til then.

Erhm, Forochel isn't the pay-expansion Mines of Moria. Forochel is a free content update that is coming this month (Book 13).

Originally posted by pkSlayde yes they do need badly a penalty like they did in UO (no safe protection from NPC) i makes people think twice about it. i also want to be able to fully loot your corpse to take what youn have (inside UO,D1,EQ1,L2 ect.have this feature) it provides a bonus and more of a reason to kill higher levels and those goldfarmers. I would love to see penalties open pvp everywhere, and full loot everywhere.

There are games that cater to your style. I don't see any reason however to turn EVERY game into the game YOU want to play. With the 200+ MMOs out these days, you can't play them all anyway, can you?

Needless to say, but I don't agree with your initial statement.

I really loved it when one of the GMs in PotBS moved a gold spammer into the PvP area, and then broadcasted: "I may or may not have accidentally moved a gold spammer in the PvP area around (note: can't remember the town he said) Town X, Enjoy"

Second problem is official forums access. I registered an account in EU area as I live there but EU site has no forums and US site does not accept my login information, as if my account does not exist. I'm confused, anyone has the same problem?

I have no idea about your language problem. Best bets is to ask on the official forums. Which brings me to your second question. EU isn't supported through forums, so you have to use the US forums. To access the US forums, you need to make a new account on the US site.

  • The EU servers....why on earth did they split them up by language? Now we have one server that is completely packed one that is ok and 2 somewhat "less then full" servers. Now maybe I'm wrong on this, my fellow European server players can correct me if I am , but that was a bad idea IMHO. They should just mark them as EU and leave it at that. I mean the game is about Brits vs French vs Spanish vs Pirates...so why on gods green earth would you seperate them in reality? (except for the pirates...unless of course, there are any actual Pirates out there playing the game, in which case...nevermind)

It's about localization and some Europeans not speaking/understanding English so well. The devs are planning live events, and doing it in different languages on one server is an extreme hassle.

Update. Just taken. Stockholm 00:08. London 23:08. New York 18:08. Seatlle 15:08.

I don't get it...European UK server is at moderate and heavy and very heavy during prime time. Game isn't decently available in shops in France and Spain due to screw ups from Koch Media, the European distributor. Not surprised about the low numbers there. The rest are US servers. East Coast is at dinner, and West Coast is still at work. Last week, when people were still waiting for the box, all of it was much lower, with only 2 or 3 servers on moderate at the most? What was the point again?

I hope that there will be a mmorpg that let people say what they think and feel about a game. And not call them Troll everytime they post something bad.

I've seen you post there as well, and pretty much every single post was either rude or aggressive. The idea is, that anyone can say what they think and feel in a mature fashion. I know, I know...'Freedom of speech'...Freedom of speech however should not be used as an excuse to be rude or agressive.

Even that, there are many people that keep on asking for features like FULL LOOT, FREE PVP (No save zones), SAND BOX, no LVLS, no CLASSES, instead SKILLS that you train according to your needs -whatever they are, limitted INSTANCED ACTION, no TELEPORTING everywhere in the map with a number of clicks, no ITEM- BASED game and pvp -meaning that all you left doing in the game is running around raiding looking for that uber sword cause theres nothing else to do.

What do you guys feel about it ?

How I feel about it? Confused, to be honest. What exactly do you want to loot fully, if it's also a no item-based game?

I got the exact same E-mail and now Auran games goes directly to my spam folder. I've been receiving their emails since beta, hoping the game would eventually improve but this latest idiocy shows I'm not their target audience if they thing something so transparent and juvenile is going to inspire me to play their crap game again.

Same here. I finally forgot all about this game, and then I receive this mail. Indeed, if they think they can now address their target audience with insults, I am definitely not target audience. 'Transparent' and 'juvenile' are indeed spot on. I had a good laugh about the insanity of it all though

This is why games NEED a long (and real) Open Beta period.

Not just a short cycle with limited people that are willing to buy pre-order boxes and such.

There was an Open Beta last month, in case you missed it. And anyone could get into beta.

No, it absolutely doesn't and it's not my PC.  What that video shows is reactive combat.  It shows active blocking and dodging.

Those are absolutely not part of this game in any way.

Just check the skill list...There's skills for active dodging and blocking.

Well, for one thing the false advertising the game has out made me want to buy it too.  Thank god I did sign up for open beta though.

What false advertisement? There hardly was any advertisement at all, or at least not that I'm aware of?
