About the classes. It took me some time to find a good overview of all the skills for the different classes, and a direct link to the Rogue ones can be found here: romdata.getbuffed.com/skill/list/3 There's a list for each class, class combo and Elites for the class combos. My experience with crafting: the items you can craft don't drop from mobs and they are actually useful and worthwhile, and there's a lievely trade in them in the AH. That's the good news. The bad news is that there aren't that many different items you can craft, and it's a very time consuming process if you want to level your craft(s). I'm from Europe, and so far I haven't seen any pure RP servers. I'm playing on a PvE server (Siochain) and the community is actually the reason why I kept playing the game more than 3-4 hours (no F2P games so far haven't managed to keep my attention longer than that, except RoM). I found the people in general very helpful and friendly. In the newbie area I met the occasional jerk, but they never make it beyond newbie area anyway. I'm having a blast, and my friend list is filling up quickly. But hey, the game is free :) Just download it, play a couple of hours and check it out yourself :)

Originally posted by Lydon LOL...erm, Balthazar faction is there for a reason. And yes, it's as simple as doing some RA. You can do RA with the worst of builds at times...even naked if you wish.
What he said. Balthazar Faction Points have been around since some months after the game released in 2005. And as for the PvE items...If you happen to be referring to items like negative energy sets: they have been added to the PvP setup screen ages ago too. |

Besides, veterans keep warning in the main chat channel that some areas are dangerous areas for new players. Within an hour I knew where to go or not to go. This has been one of the most welcoming, group oriented communities I've ever seen. Within hours, I had a few people on my buddy list already with which I group a lot now. |

Originally posted by SoulPT I can only second this. I've been playing for a week now, on the 1 month free trial key, and I'm pleasantly surprised. |

wow really? I didnt know gameing was so popular over there. Although i was always curious if it would ever take off because of all the different languages in europe there are, so developers need to make translations of the game, if i'm wrong please correct me, this is just what i assumed.
It's actually one of the reasons what makes MMOs fail. Developers see this need to chop up and divide the EU community into little bits and pieces because they desperately want to do some 'localization'. I have friends all over Europe, but it gets increasingly hard to play together with them on the same server. |

Yes you can play with only GW Prophecies. However, if you're heavily into PvP, you will be missing skills from those expansions. And yes, still plenty of players playing. You obviously have the first game, so go ahead, and fire it up. No monthly subscription fee there, so you can just log on and have a look yourself. |

You won't even be able to play on the EU servers because of IP blocking so your point is moot. Besides, half of the EU countries are going to be forced to play on NA servers because of the IP blocking. If anything, the EU gets screwed because they can't even play together. |

Less easy to answer...It depends heavily on which mode you are playing. I think I can assume that you're definitely not playing GvG since you just started, and probably not HA either. My guess is: you are playing random arenas (RA)? If so, then my general advice would be: make sure you have a res signet on your bar (the signet, not a res spell), that you have 1 form of self heal, and that you either take a speed boost or a skill that slows the enemy down. The other 5 slots you can use for damage. Make sure you don't spread out your attribute points too much over too many attributes. Random Arenas also gets used a lot to test out or practice builds for HA or GvG. Another thing you can do is to watch some HA or GvG matches (enter Observer Mode by pressing 'O'), select a player there, and write down the build that you see there and try it out in RA. These builds are not always great for RA, but it gives you some practice, some idea on how certain builds work, and it gives you some practice in recognizing builds (and start figuring out how to counter them). |

The skills you can access by clicking on your skillbar, or pressing 'K', but I guess you already figured that out. To use items you have unlocked: press 'I' (inventory) and then click the button 'PvP Equipment'. That brings you to a screen where you can put runes and weapon mods on your gear. There, you also get to choose different armour looks. Some people have unlocked new looks however, or have decked out their PvE character with a different look for PvP. Some looks you simply won't have (yet). Your armour LOOKS whimpy maybe, but all the armours have the same base stats. So if you want any armour that is different than the ones you can choose from, you need to either take a char through PvE and buy it there and deck it out with runes and inscriptions, or you need to play Automated Tournaments in GvG, gain tournament reward points and hand them in at Tolkano (NPC) for rewards. These rewards include new armour skins. For detailed info: guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/PvP_reward |

As the previous poster said: you don't even need the client, once you have linked all the games to your account. There's a download at the official site. Direct link is www.guildwars.com/downloads/gwsetup.zip (home -->support-->download client). So...You buy the games, create an account, add the keys to your account, download gwsetup.zip (file is 103 kb in total) from the official site, install that, log in with your account details, and you can start playing. The keys on your account define what content the client will download. Every time you enter a new area, the game will download some new content. Or the client will download in the background every time your client is idle. You can also login and leave the client at the login screen for a night and download everything. All up to you. You can download the game as often as you like and install it on as many computers as you want. No limit there. Only limit is your account, which can only be used by 1 person at a time. |

Originally posted by jimmyman99 Some comments I think u should start with the very first game. It is very heavy on story telling and will introduce you into the game in a steady pace. Or start with the nightfall. Its RPG element is also strong, and you get to play with heroes from the start (I consider heroes to be one of the strongest point of the game). I think u can play nightfall without the original, you just cant get to the content outside the expansion. Depends on whether he wants to PvE at all, really. I practicaly never PvP, but if memory serves me right, I didn't lose anything when I died. PvP has a lot of strategic meaning, and less FPS meaning. You don't lose anything, but you do get Death Penalty (to the OP: see my previous post). yes, you can get a PvP toon that is level 20 right off the bat. But you will have a set of standard skills with it. You need to PvE to unlock many elite skills that you can use. No, you don't need to PvE. You can PvP, and gain Balthazar Faction Points, and spend those on unlocks. It adds a small token of advantage in your battles. You are still fairly competetive since most of the time its your personal skills and those of your temmates that turn the tide of the battle. I like to watch PvP battles and often I see an even sided battle turn into a victory by a single clever maneuver of one of the sides.

There's only 1 expansion: Eye of the North. The 3 others (the original campaign, referred to as 'Prophecies', Factions and Nightfall). Those 3 are standalone games and you can either play them seperately, with no need for any of the other ones, or you can link them together (you can then travel with your char to any expansion, providing you bought it and have added the key to your account). Only Eye of the North needs one of the three base games to play. In PvP, when you die, you don't lose gear or cash. You do get a debuff. The more you die, the bigger the debuffs get. The debuff diminshes your max health and energy, percentage wise. After the first time dieing, you get a 15% DP, meaning that you have 15% less energy and health. You can't get more than 60% btw. You can get rid of (part of) the DP (death penalty) in several ways (gaining a level for instance, or earning Morale Boosts). Playing well can also give you buffs in the same way. Maximum is 10% (10% more health and energy). And yes, you can make a PvP toon level 20 instantly. In former days, before they introduced rewards for PvPing (so called Balthazar Faction Points), you needed to unlock weapon mods, skills and such through PvE. These days, you can go earn Balthazar Faction Points in PvP and spend those points on unlocks. Another possibility is to just buy 'unlock packs' for PvP (which unlocks certain stuff, depending on what package you get). It's probably those PvP packs that you were looking at on the site. If you have no intrest in PvE at all, you might as well get the PvP edition of each (or all) campaigns. Saves you a lot of hassle. To sum it up: the regular versions have both the PvE campaign and the PvP stuff, but without any unlocks. The PvP versions (PvP packs) don't include any PvE campaign, but have most/all stuff unlocked for PvP. |
