I don't think CCP are stupid enough to tie DUST 514 to consoles who's lifespans are coming to an end. I think they're also developing for PC, or at the very least an easy port to PC.

Console shoot 'em ups are a short term investment, the next one comes along, the shoot 'em up population follows, like sheep.

There' no way CCP haven't considered this. Await the Megaton PC shooters. Incoming.

Both the xbox360 and PS3 have at least a few more years in them if not more. And besides there's nothing stopping them from just releasing and updated version of the game to work with the new consoles assuming the original version is not just compatible to begin with. the game is using the unreal engine do you really think that Epic is not going to keep their engine compatible with whatever new consoles come along?

Brains people, do you use them?

Captains quarters is only the first stage of the incarna expansion. They're doing a staged release like they did with Incursion.

yes they are when they are inside their ships, but the captains quarters are in the stations you dock at

I'm going to have to add my own "Meh" to the OP. I bought WAR when it first came out and I like the idea of the PQ. I think Rift is a well polished game as well and the graphics, while cartooney are miles better than WoW (but then what isn't at this point really). But for me the combat is what kills it. It is the same hotkey combat as WoW and WAR and every other cookie-cutter MMO on the market where just mashing the same key over and over is all you need to do to kill 90% of the mobs in the game.

I made a Mage character and went with warlock/necro/stormcaller and ended up with 3 nukes and 3 dots plus a few utility spells. So while it's nice to have the ability to have 3 different subclasses within a archetype they all have such generic abilities there is very few interesting skills to use. maybe they diverge farther later on I don't know but as I see it now they are not very interesting.

No PC? Really?

I can only make a guess, but knowing how low budget CCP aims for ,my guess would be a very good one.It is because they probably got a very good deal on an engine.

Games like Gears of War,you do know what engine that uses? Then so you understand that is in the hundreds of millions PLUS royalties to license that engine.I really don't know what Halo uses but it is a lesser budget version of the UT series.

Really try to think of one decent PC engine that is not very expensive to license, and no way CCP is going to develop one.To cahnce developing your own engine ,is a very big gamble, because it sets you back the equivalent of one whole game franchise,so you won't break even for many years to come.

They may have even bought this engine outright, sort of the way that other indie dev bought out that greek mythology game/engine[forget the dev's name] all in one package.

All you need to do is look at the opposite end of the spectrum>>>>Wow+Blizzard. They didn't have a console engine, this is why Wow a game that SHOULD have been on console ,was ONLY on PC,the yrehashed the same Warcraft 3 engine.BTW PC i not the major source of income, because there is very few retailers carrying pc games anymore, that alone says it all, they make more money selling console games.

There is so much just plain wrong information in this post it's staggering. First of all Dust is being made with the exact same engine as Gears of War and a large number of other games, the unreal engine. Hundreds of millions just to license the engine are you serious? Try hundreds of thousands at most which in the grand scheme of game development is a pittance and the time savings of not having to write your own engine will more than pay off. Another advantage of using the unreal engine is that they have existing development and compiling tools for all of the consoles, which will make it much easier to bring the game out on multiple consoles simultaneously. FYI Halo uses a custom engine that was created by bungee years ago (originally used in the Myth games i beieve) and is far inferior in capability to UE.

Also WoW wasn't on console because at the time when it was developed the majority of their playerbase was on PC and consoles suck for classic type MMO's due to the limited nature of their controllers.

My tattooo'd long haired minmatar is now without tattoo's and now my only long hair option is dreads =(

I'm just hoping CCP don't screw over my wallet so I can get my character looking even remotely how I used to look.

"A Minmatar without his markings is not considered a Minmatar at all. Such a one would be as alien to the Minmatar as a universe without God would be to the Amarr." One of the more recent chronicles

Some advice on the forums told me to just imagine it's really there which is starting to sound to familiar with things like PI, FW, cosmos, Minmatar Renaissance. Why the hell am I paying CCP so I can imagine I'm playing a game I want to.

They've already said they are working on tatoo's piercing's etc but they weren't ready for release. They've also said we will get to re-customize our characters again when they are so have some freaking patience ffs. Jesus they said years ago that they wanted people to have the ability to set up tatoo parlors and clothing shops so people could profit ingame from other players wanting to do that so what would give you the idea that the current creator is end of what they are planning for updates.

FFS people get some common sense.

I'll second the captain shout-out as my main is a captain and I'm currently levelling up an rk. 3 mobs are still a problem for rk's when soloing since if they want to do the most damage they need to attune towards offensive spells and lose most of their healing abilities. Personally I preferred the rk's attunement mechanic to the minstrels more standard style and that's why I've been levelling up an RK as my second character.

The captain is my favourite class out of any MMO that I've played though so I still love playing him often. It's easy to see what a big difference he makes in a group and they become pretty decent at soloing now as well.

Despite my pulling in gold pretty quickly, I find that I have more than enough stuff I want to buy with it.  While it's not a high pressure economy where you have to spend every copper you have in order to level, there's still plenty to spend it on that makes life easier.

Why do you need so many 2nd Age LI´s ?? I tell you why , its because the legendary lottery system sucks and fails extremly.......

heh I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that disagrees with you on that, including the devs. Hopefully when they get around to updating them in one of the next few updates they get rid of the lottery system alltogether

Is it just me or do you guys think they should make textures like this for the ships as well. I know we just got a graphics update but shouldn't the graphics quality match up, the ships are pretty and all but they don't look anywhere near as good as this, at least to me.

That would be great but most ships in EVE only have about 3000 polygons, the heads alone in the character creater have over 4000. The reason why they have such low polycounts is directly related to performance. When you have the potential to have 3000 ships on the screen you need to account for it.

you forgot they added native AA to the client and all faction ships are now purchasable on the market as well

Sounds like it's going to cost a few bil. I'm thinking somewhere around the 10-20 range.

Yay for more PVE gear. :-|

I wish they would stop adding in PVE junk that is too expensive to use in PVP and start giving us more mid sized ships in the 100mil range.

Or at least make those BCs that don't have T2 Variants, into something like inexpensive siege ships that are in the 200mil each range. Hitting anything stationary is absolutely ridiculous. Something like 100 T2 Harbingers should be able to fully take down an entire POS in under 2hrs. Because right now, 200++ Battleships take alot longer than 2hrs just to kill the Control Tower.

IIRC, the Cerebral Accelerator was only for new characters, and is supposed to "burn out" when the double training rate period expires, ie it only lasts a week or two. Even CCP aren't retarded enough to put a permanent item of that power into newbs hands.

Also, there are already ships that are specifically designed to take down control towers. They're called Dreadnaughts.

And 200 BS dont take anything like 2 hours to kill a POS. I'm assuming they're properly fit, ofc, not right-click -> fit all from rat loot hangar fit. I would expect a fleet of about one hundred BS to spend no more than an hour on a non spongestar/dickstar POS.

Ah, that's a pretty cool implant then. I haven't really heard about it until now.

Dreads are still very expensive, hard to fly (Battleship V & Advanced Spaceship Command V), and look awesome on the KBs. They can't be used in large numbers effectively, because of these factors. If anything, I would have to say they are one of the most worthless damn ships in the game.

I guess the last time I went on a POS bust like that it wasn't 200 BS, probably somewhere around 100 + BC/HAC support making it over 200 in the system. We were all 'supposed' to be in the correct fits and it did take around 2hrs to finish off just the Control Tower though. I don't really know a whole lot about POS busting, I just know I freaking hate it when I get called in on a POS bust CTA because it takes so damn long.

Most PVP pilots are geared around flying BCs and HACs and have no reason for either of the long train skills that it takes to fly a Dread. Personally, I don't have them, I don't need them and I really don't want them. I honestly don't even think I have Advanced Spaceship Command even at lvl 1,  because I don't have a need for it.  I do have BC V and it helps me out alot, because I fly Amarr, Caldari, and Minnie BCs more than anything (in that order). But, if you can get 100+ Pilots in a system flying 200mil'ish ships, then you should be able to take down any stationary object fairly quickly.

nm I missread the tiny text.

So you did not provide any example of a smaller payed expansion in any MMO. I have asked exactly that in may different forums, and nobody has ever been able to answer. I honestly think that Mirkwood is, most probably, the smallest payed expansion in the history of MMOs.

You mention that Lotro is not a raid-centric game. And I agree. However, I thought we were talking about end-game. Let me check the thread title again... aha! Yeah, it says exactly that, end-game. Ok, now, if raids are not end-game in a PVE-centric theme-park with a very simplistic crafting system, like Lotro... what the hell is end-game in a game like that then?

Anyway, so let's ignore raids, and talk about smaller instances. Going back to the examples I have used:

WoW: You can level all the way from 10 to 80 doing instances and only instances and nothing more than instances. Can you do that in Lotro?

And that's a good thing why? Having a ton of instances is not a good thing if they mostly suck. I like the open world feel of the zones in LOTRO and it's why I'm playing it instead of WoW.

What is a good thing is that you can also choose to never ever get into any instance until you get to 80. You have enough content to choose. And, really, how does a tiny and segmented area like Mirkwood make up a "open world feel". That is the point I have been trying to get across all the time. SoA and SoM are different stories.

Vanguard: The amount of dungeons is so insane that players ended up asking for a togle to NOT get experience becouse they were outleveling most of them by playing normally and they were missing content on level. Do you need that in Lotro?

I haven't played Vanguard since the beta (which was terrible) so I don't know what they classify as dungeons but while I was levelling up through LOTRO I had many times where I had to skip things due to either not having enough players to do them or just outlevelling them too quick. This is why I love the fact that they are converting the classic instances to scale with level. Unless you've been a hardcore subscriber in an active kin since launch you HAVE missed most of the previous endgame instances and raids.

APW, 34 24-man raid bosses, just the example I mentioned earlier, yeah, I think that qualifies as a dungeon. Trust me, the average Vanguard dungeon is bigger than old CD.

And, by the way, both games have a world that is bigger than Lotro.

Maybe right now but the world of LOTRO is only about 33% complete at this point. Let's check back once they hit Mordor shall we.

If you wanna especulate that way with what may or may not come, let me remind you that in WoW there are several planets. Orcs and Draenei come from another world. Still, considering the pace at which Turbine is releasing content... You can't seriously expect Middle Earth to get bigger than Azeroth. That is the point.

Why do you think the radiance gating and the LI grind were introduced? Do you think they actually add any fun to the game? Maybe they are just clumsy attempts to mask lack of content? Do you honestly think they serve any purpose other than beeing a time sink?

No I think they are both poor design decisions that were made due to lack of development time and resources and hopefully they will revamp them or remove them as necessary as they have hinted at doing during F2P development.

I didn't join an active kin till I was almost 65 and spent absolutely no time in raids and very little time in instances save the epic quests. It is rediculously easy to hit max level in LOTRO without hitting an instance and without having to just grind mobs. Hell I ended up dropping dozens of quests that I outleveled along the way and I still haven't finished all moria areas fully or even 3/4 of mirkwood and I've been 65 for ages. Honestly the raiding aspect of the game is such a minor aspect I'm perfectly fine if they don't release a new raid with every new as they are usually mindnumbingly boring anyways.

I still think the best part of Moria is the flaming grims doing that dragon of flame attack. Even my wife who hates video games with a passion thinks that is cool. Got another alt in Moria now, but I can only do so many hours at a time of Moria until claustrophobia sets in, then I play another alt or do groups with my main for a day or so. I still need to go back on one of lvl 60's and finish the rep in there.I am probably the only person I know who prefers Mirkwood over Moria.

You're the first person I've heard say they like Mirk over Moria :)

Well I'll be the second then. I found once you got past the initial area of mirkwood that it's a pretty cool and varied zone visually imo. I really love the approach up to SH and DG and such. Makes me anxious to see what they do with gondamon later on.

I downloaded the Free client and created a free account.

After a few days I subbed for 1 month. $15.00 for pretty much everything up until MoM if I understand correctly. ViP account.

Bought MoM CE off amazon for $15 after shipping.

So basically I will get the full game, MoM expansion, 2 months Subbed / VIP time, Plus 1000 Turbine points to spend. All for $30 bucks.

IMO thats not bad at all to get into this game.

Or you could just casually play and enjoy the free part of the game for what it is.... Free

^^ this ^^

the only thing i am having problems with is that even with the VIP you still can't get everything opened to you right away, you have to save your Turbine points allowance you get per month

if i am to pay for the VIP sub, then i should be getting the whole thing no?

I am not sure exactly what all you get to be honest. I thought you got the whole original game, and got to buy extra stuff with the TP. If I understood correctly then with a sub you unlock pretty much the whole Original game.

I could be wrong tho.

Either way $30 bucks isnt much to spend on a game for 2 months. Not when it includes all I listed above. Thats just my opinion tho =)

I know that DDO online is that, you go VIP and you get everything plus a small allowance to buy extra flufs like xp potions and stuff of the like from the store

but i think in LOTRO you only get some unlocks (characters, chat, the basics) but you get a larger Turbine point allowance to buy your quests  and areas, but if you want more areas than your allowance can handle that month you have to A) save up till next month or B) you will have to dish out more cash than your sub (and thats where i have the problem)

If you sub in LOTRO you unlimited access to everything pre-moria included. However, just like all current subscribers you still have to buy the MoM and SoM expansion in order to get access to all of the 50+ content so at the very least if you sub you will still have to pay for the xpacks. If you save up your 500 monthly points you will be able to afford the MoM pack after 5 months, less if they have a sale on it. That's not too bad really.

You are paying a one-time access fee, an access fee that replaces subscription fee.

That remains to be seen. If new zones released, such as Evendim and Forochel were, are still provided free to subscribers. And if premium or free players have to pay for them, it's not really a one-time fee. Depending on the price though, it may still be a cheaper route.

Can anyone who's currently playing DDO swoop in and comment on how this is handled in DDO? I'm curious.

Evendim and Ferochel as well as the new Enedwaith zone are still available to subscribers for free. It's handled the same way in DDO. VIP's get free access to all new content when it comes out without having to spend a dime. Freebs and Premiums have to buy it just like any other content. Freebs and Premiums also only have to buy the zones once per account so yes it is only a one time fee and then any character on that account can access the zones.

Because at one point in time we all payed for it. It shouldn't matter what level our account is at, if we have ever had SoA tied to our account, we should have those zones. Call it owning the content, call it owning access, license, whatever you want to call it. Fact is, at one point in time we have already payed for it.

No, you didn't pay for the content or even a lisence to it, you payed for access to a subscription service. That's it. This seems to be the sticking point for you. Because you payed the initial box copy you feel that you were actually paying for the content itself when in fact you were not.

Were my account a lifetime account i'd still be asking the question. Just because something doesn't affect me, doesn't mean I shouldn't care, IMO.

Would it really bother you if everyone who payed for a boxed copy of SoA still had access to that content? Why must lifers be so special? You've asked me if I feel I got my mony's worth out of SoA when I bought it. I'm curious, do you think that lifers have gotten thier money's worth out of thier original $200-$300 upfront purchase? Perhaps now that it's three years down the line they should lose access to SoA aswell. They aren't paying a sub anymore.

But lifetime subs still have to pay for expansions just like everyone else. All that we are getting access to without paying a sub is the game so the argument of only paying for access still holds up. If Turbine were to give everyone who has ever bought and played the game access to all SoA content for free they would be losing out on millions as that would include converted trials as well. Even current VIP's lose access to the SoA areas if they cancel their sub because the sub itself is only paying for access to the game and not the content itself. The lifetime subs are just  a perpetual sub and that's why they continue to have access.

Of course, that's a somewhat ridiculous thing to say, the lifeteime agreement was for the lifetime of the game. At the time it was offered though, there was no way to know how long the game would be open. Most people, including myself, just couldn't justify the cost, wish I had now. But, I wonder how much of an uproar there would have been if Turbine had said, to lifers after taking SoA access away, well you can sub up and everything will stay the same or pay for the quest packs as you go.

As far as reposting a dead-horse topic, it's not my thread. These threads pop up every other day, here and at the official boards, because people just can't understand why access they payed for has been taken away. As for this thread, don't just blame myself, Jackdog and Robsolf, you're keeping it alive just as much as me. And, there I go again, beating the horse.

Time to end it now though I think. As I posted before, none of us are going to change our positions on the matter. Agree to disagree I guess. Ah well, carry on, LotRO rocks.

You should never run more than 1 anti-virus on your system as they may interfere with each other.

I agree with you. Turbine is the only online company that is not doing anything to prevent accounts hacked and bans.

When someone changed my credit card I asked Turbine support and they told me that the credit card I was telling them. Their answer was "
We have reviewed this account in detail and do not see your name as a credit card holder or on the account at all.  Unfortunately, we are unable to help you with this account.  If there is any other account that we can assist you with, please respond to this email and we will be happy to assist you."

If you used a credit card with your name on it to pay your sub in the past they will have record of it. All you need to do is check the history of charges on the account and if one of them has your name on it then there should be no issue resolving the problem. If they don't have a CC with your name on it then there's something your not telling us. Alternately you could find a transaction number for the CC charge on your credit card statement and provide that to them to check. That also would be enough evidence for them to investigate the issue. If you have not provided them with any of this information then you have not provided the proof that they need to fix your problem.

Now they are saying that I was trying to sell my account, they dont have real  evidence but I´ve learnt something. I can make any lotro account be banned or "unable to be banned" LOL You just have to post PUBLIC info into the forums saying that you want to sell the account and then buala... that account will be banned by turbine or thay are going to be unable to ban it for life (because they will not know if it is someone trying to ban lotro accounts LOL)

The worst part is that it is really easy to prevent these things.  You dont know how frustrated I am about my account being stolen by Turbine
