"SOE has nothing to do with the game, they cant do anything, they will only make the boxes and sell them" and then two three lines that anyone saying differently was all manners of stupid.

Yeah....

I know!!!
And now their new rethoric is that it's all for the best and things will only turn out for the better...

A good publisher tells his devs the buggy project is not ready... cracks the whip and pushes the release back.
SOE is ran by bureaucrats... the project will sell... if subscription don't keep up you cut down on maintenance. Even games that would be considered failiures can rake in the money.
They can always convert those players to other games with their network. Thats why they're not afraid of purchasing failiures.

They're gonna trim the staff down and these fan boys will applaud. They will say "This ensures the survival of the game".

Those fan boys are like frogs in boiling water.
They can't admit that even in their leisure time... they're getting screwed.

Seriously... on paper... Vanguard was everything I wanted in an MMO.
Someone who knows how to make games should take that game design and go make a game out of it.

CuppaJo! Nice to see you around!
You may not remember me... I was "Premium" on the CoH/CoX boards

(CuppaJo is in charge of the community for Tabula Rasa and former Community Director...?(or something like that) for City of Heroes)

You know what you guys need? A good cinematic giving everyone an idea what the TR world is about.... something giving us a feel for the game and what can be expected. (and not just people shooting floaties).
Something like what CoH had where you see characters in "signature" situations... conversing in a way that you intuitively understand what their (and what would be your) world is like.

Right now all I get from what we've seen so far is that I'd be fighting waves after waves of aliens all from the interstellar force of invading aliens... so as I understand it... the same aliens... only tougher...
I think you guys need to break away from this perception people are getting.

Also, I get this very generic perception from the game... like it's every Sci-fi MMO... tech, guns, aliens, planets
I have not followed this game very closely but everytime something from it has managed to grab my attention, it did nothing todraw me in.

I find a video does the job real quick in a very efficient manner.

Lets put it this way, No, wow is not particulary special.

That's my feeling as well.
They have more overall content than most MMOs... that's because of the size that they have...
They did not really innovate much in any way... they pretty much stuck to good old formulas.
They implemented rest XP... to my knowledge this was new...

If you compare with other games like:
-the complexe trading in Eve
-the RvR of DAoC and level & loot as you RvR of WAR
-the extremely vast appearance customisation of from City of Heroes ... plus the base system
-the City of Villains Pet class system.
-the diplomacy system from Vanguard.
-the area-based voice chat from There.
-the Conan melee combat complexity.
-the story telling from Ryzom

Now... innovation is not the only way to raise the bar (actually by definition that would be "setting the bar")... you can do something old and do it exceptionally well... but I don't see WoW particularly shining in that ...

WoW is mainly known for showing everyone how much of a market there is for MMOs. It innovates about as much as asian MMOs innovate. And though the execution is better than your standard Korean mmo... it's just not really showing other MMOs how it's done in any particular field that I can think of.

If anything it reminds me a little more of SpaceQuest... man I'd love to see a 2D sidescroller MMO SpaceQuest... anyways...

Ted... you're not even making an argument... you haven't stated anything except your attempt to distance yourself from ...nerds in their basements...?

Da heck have u done lately?

I'd love to be involved on a project like this ...
Heck if you and him show up at Ubisoft, MS Studios, Bioware, Blizzard or Cryptic... who do you think they'd hire first?

If he owns his own basement he probably owns more than you, and you and I both know I'm right.

You could consider them like Dark Paladins of an Evil God of Change and Transformation... but if you wanna get an idean of what kind of guy a Champion of Chaos is... remember that they are barbarians from northern wastelands who got "infected" or "touched by Tzeetch" and live a life or raiding and pillaging.

Hmm... there's nothing really more abnormal or unlike any of the prior issues with this one other than the extra close testing phase... but every time people seem to think it's just taking a little extra more time than the last for some reason...

Although it's true that this new page on the COH site contains no previously unreveiled info... I don't think that the CoH team intended for that page to be news just by putting it up. Afterall at the time I'm writing this... that hasnt even made their own news page...

It's a bit like that Conan game... why must we be told the news about 3 more screenshots that are going live every 5 days... it seems ridiculous.

Website activity is not news... Anyways...

Project offset does look incredible... unless I'm mistaken it's not related to Red Five though.

A game like this is bound to have very... "unsafe" policies... and explore less popular game choices in the line of perma death, language barriers or no PvE.

I think I wanna try it just for kicks! Who knows, it may have a fun community and be hilarious for a little while...lol

This looks promising

Hmm that artwork looks like a crashed or exploding Death Star to me... which might just be a little acknowledgement to their name... and not a hint on their current project.

But maybe it is about their game... they've got a lot of art that seems to be about a particular project as they use this in some sort of hiring kit with branded iPods. There's also little blurbs of texts that to me immediatly said something about "terraforming a planet"... "colonists tot a new world" kinda thing...
http://senzee.blogspot.com/2007/02/red-5s-pitch.html

also from their FAQ:
Q: Can you tell us about the game you're working on?

A: We're still hard at work on our announcement, and for now everything is still under wraps. What we can say at this time is that we have no desire to create yet another fantasy based RPG MMO as our next title.

I think we're a long way from hearing anything from them... Webzen doesnt talk too much about what they work on until they're close to release... we're barely hearing anything from Huxley and APB and that's supposed to release this year and next year.

Man... it seems to me this game TOTALLY fails to generate any hype even with all t he big names behind it like Garriot and NCsoft.
...and no wonder... logos? They're freakin unveiling logos!? Oh and here's the best part... they spread the unveiling over multiple weeks!

Sure it's cool that they put time and effort and develop this whole system. So present the system!... a freakin idiotgram is nothing to gawk at!

I don't even need to play the game or a demo now... I've already come to the impression that it reeks of suckage and futility.

More news about the toast please! Will there be a testing phase?

lol

Was anyone still thinking this project was alive?
News of their cancellation is the most news we've had on this project in 2 years.

Too bad... concept was nice.

On the whole running around getting loot thing... there's nothing un-superheroish about it... plus there's multiple types of inventions...

Inventions is mainly a level 50 thing because otherwise you outgrow what you make. And seeing as there's nothing in the game for level 50s except the Hamidon (which is being changed to be more fun) and the PvP... which still needs some balancing... it's a welcomed change that will only impact the normal leveling up in a small way... unless you're unlocking costume pieces or emotes or the like... in which case it does not impact gameplay at all.

Unlike other games, most loot can be obtained in instanciable missions (quests)... the more "unique" inventions are made through more or less "unique" drops with a proper level of challenge tied to it... so you don't get the big uber invention by killing 10,000 minion of X type...

As for Superman... his Fortress of Solitude is filled with collected artifacts and inventions he uses on specific missions... such as the Phantom Zone projector, a mother box, various types of Kryptonite, the shrunken city of kandor, Brainiac's Kryptonian database, all the surviving animals and plants from the collector's ship... he's got a pretty good stash of crap at Starlabs too like special suits and all...

As for the devs not listening to players... CoX is known as one of the few games where the players get direct access to the devs and where the devs are very present on the message boards. MUCH of the player suggestions make it in as content... cutscenes, flight poses, trenchcoats, wings, archery powerset, masterminds, the return of the 5th column, much of the balancing comes through player feedback...

There's limits to what the devs can implement... budget-wise, tech-wise and well... crackpotted-ness on the suggesters part.

Invention specific loot... just like hamidon origin enhancements... are valuable loot... which don't affect the gameplay for the most part.
The players sitting at level 50 are a different crowd and they do want the loot based system.

Cool stuff... double XP week-ends always draws lots of people... this is gonna be fun!

Expect issue 9 sometime in late March or April... they claim to pull 3 expensions a year but in reality they keep getting later and later so it's more like 2.6 to 2.8 expensions a year...

No news on Khelds in i9... cross your fingers

Not much to see but I like that flash animation! :)
Hope they keep this level of quality in the final site.

Now it wouldn’t be Star Trek if we couldn’t nit pick and point out the imperfections right?
So as a web developer myself I like their flash portion of the intro and like that they opted for XHTML for the non flash portions... but they should get their pages to validate and apply some notions of markup semantics

/nit-picking off

The change seems fine. To many classes means some will never be played anyway.

I'd have to agree with the above quote.

Too many classes also means it will take longer to balance.

I fail to see how it makes sense for the Zealot to become a Dark Templar though... I don't follow this game very closely but isn't that like merging Paladins with Shadow Knights and calling em both Shadow Knights?
