Sure! You get all those nifty Pre-Order and Collector's Edition extras as Veteran Rewards. It looks to me like the COH team is running out of steam. I guess that's what happens when you're really not pushed to come up with anything new for so long. I've got a stack of NCSoft timecards I could use, but I'm not even interested anymore.

Actually they started giving those Preorder perks as vet rewards... they're OUT OF JUICE... they're canibalising their reward content.

Might be a cultural thing... maybe I'm too old (33)... but I'm just not hip to any of these asian games... they never seem to make sense to me and I have a real hard time finding any immersion because I don't really get the worlds they create... like elves with 1 feet ears and big blunt swords twice their size with electronics on em... and maybe they transform from male to female at will... also that is 1 of 3 characters you can play and you get to pick the color of your hat... if you pay extra.

Huxley is not as bad as some of the others but most look like they were made to run on an OLPC.

I wish they would have inspired themselves from the original IP rather than try to make things up... I'm just not getting Huxley (figuratively and literally)

Bah... the count down to E3 is started... we're gonna see more and more developers trying to grab a bit of spotlight so that they get extra coverage during E3... I'm sure this press conference is not unrelated to the AoC launch but really... these guys are a few months away from release... there's nothing unnatural about trying to make some waves here.

And frankly I've seen much more pathetic attempts at attention grabbing from developers in the past... Like when NCSoft decided that they were going to "unveil" 2 Tabula Rasa logos per week up until release... seriously that was really sad. I've seen plenty of "3 screenshot releases" from AoC too... not as pathetic but still a little lame.

All in all for anyone following developement on WAR... you really cannot complain about the shortage of info coming out of EA Mythic... all the newsletters are filled with 50+ screenshots and concept art (which truely looks awsome) and Paul does a good job of sharing info on features, whether you like his style of delivery or not (I do). It was very surprising for me to see them release so many screenshots of stuff that is still in developement... without any lighting effects or fog or environmental shading... generally big companies like EA are way more secretive.

AoC looks like a really good game and the innovative combat system with mounted combat is very exciting. The crew at Funcom however are pretty bad on the marketing side of things. The staff sent to public events often comes off as overgrown 14 year olds with very giddyish attitudes towards their M rated content. Their main PR guy is ridiculous... he said in an interview when asked about nudity (paraphrasing) "Actually many female journalists come to tell me they're excited about the prospect of playing a sexy character"... yeah right lol... AoC looks good but even if I get a kick out of em, I still think Funcom's PR generally does the game a disservice...

Anyways... I'm sure both games will be succesful. AoC is more innovative while WAR seems more reliable in terms of providing content and stable and proven game mechanics (and I can't say no to leveling though PvP).

So no electricity for Tankers (or Scrappers) yet?

Someone seriously dropped the ball here.

I think the brutes were a lot more upset about not getting Ice / Ice

Ice / Ice is self defeating for a Brute in terms of mechanics. Slowing in the incoming damage and powers like Hibernate just totally work against them. Radiation Brutes or Weapon Brutes are in a much higher demand than Ice Brutes.

Electricity needs some adaptations to make it to a Tanker or Scrapper set because of the Conserve Energy... which needs to be replaced by something else... however it is within reach...

Tankers get Dark/Dark... I've never seen this requested even once. Mechanically it will work well... Tanks will self-heal and seeing as they aren't great for damage... they will get great debuffs which will help them and make them more useful to teams... but It's not a very "heroic" power.

What Tankers wanted the whole Shazam thing.

Brutes have been asking for big sticks for a long time and now they will get to go about a clobber people with Pipe-wrenches and Baseball bats... it's a great addition.

I think we can officially say CoX has gone into maintenance mode or milking mode... which ever you prefer.

With Champions Online just announced, they're not even in a position to make announcements about issue 12 to keep the player base interested.

Great game... it's getting a little dated though.

They look fine... for starting characters.

Like it was said before... this has got to be the basic, armor-less look...

We should be able to wear the helmet from the deity we serve and get some decent armor...

This game is gonna rock!

It'll be the most open ended MMORPG ever in terms of character creation!

What CoX did for costumes they will repeat and be as flexible in terms of powers!

It's probably the class people will pick to PvP... and that everyone else will complain about.

That is so true.

AO is the reason I'm leaning more towards WAR than Conan cause both Conan and WAR look good... (excpt in WAR you can level with PvP, Conan should do that)
But if you compared AO and DAoC... the best game would be DAoC hands down...

The lesson here is track record counts (ask SOE or on the flipside ask Blizzard or Bioware) and Funcom cannot afford another botched launch... if they do it again they will forever be known as a company that can't get it together.

Once is an exception, twice is a habit.

guess I will wait 5 months then see how the game is recieved something feels Vanguardish..

Maybe they're just gonna come out with better packages ... or more inciting ones seeing as they will be closer to the WAR release date...

CoH 2 may come someday, but I don't quite think it's in the works yet. Better to continue to evolve the game they have, since I haven't seen any hard signs that they're unhappy with the engine & base structure.

However, NCSoft's purchase of City of Heroes is a very strong forward statement, and it implies that they want the brand indefinitely. Which means there's a good chance that people there are talking internally about a CoH 2. Maybe not short-term, but I'm sure it's on their minds.

If there is a CoX2 it will definitely be an NCsoft project and possibly without Cryptic's involvement.

NCsoft isn't shy about making sequels and other than Lineage and Guild Wars... CoX is really their only other big success.

NCsoft coming out with a CoX2 is almost a certainty.

Seriously though... Cryptic Studios are starting to be overdue for some sort of announcement as to what the hell is going on over there.

They've been claiming to be working on MUO and 2 other projects for like a year and a half...
-When asked if MUO is cancelled they won't answer
-They still have not disclose anything concerning the 2 other projects
-And now they're remaining silent about the STO license

You're not working on CoX... so what the heck are you working on?
Love what you've done with CoH and even more with CoV...
I generally like you as a company and how you were very communicative with the userbase...
Time to reconnect with that communicative side of yours Cryptic!

Even before the changes, CoH was boring after a couple months of play, thanks to their extremely repetitive mission system and complete lack of world exploration.  Cryptic hasn't proven to me that they can make a fully functional MMO that has all of the sandbox style content that we expect from a AAA game.  What they have proven is that they are good at making niche games that have narrow appeal.

I think you're a little harsh...
Yes the missions became repetitive... Cryptic was just too small and for a first game... they did amazing...
-The gameplay and controls themselves were phenomenal and fun
-The PvP came out really good for a game that had it as an afterthought
-The runtime was smooth and has little lag
-The character customisation ... nothing needs to be added to this...

I absolutely agree that repetitive content was a problem.
The only real flaw to the game is enough varied content to keep you leveling all the way up.
That's has a lot to do with financing really... give them Microsoft money or just 1/10th of the money WoW rakes in for a year and it would have been a different story.

I honestly think STO is in good hands.

It's called Huxley, the game you are looking for.

Huxley is pretty much the only upcoming MMOFPS that has any chances of being a success.
But as any asian develloped games... it will probably  feel weird and alien... like your grandma trying to sound cool but leaving you with that creepy feeling...
Asian MMOs are just strange.

There was a "prison planet" MMO that was being developed a while back by an Australian company but the project was cut... I always thought the concept was interesting and perfect for an MMOFPS. Since all the population is essentially displaced... you can make any amount of races... any sort of weapons or items... nothing is really out of place since it can always be explained by being from this or that world which you don't get to see cause you don't get to leave.

As for alligeances you can pretty much go which ever way you want since its a game of survival of the fittest... you can easilly go against racial backgrounds or just go solo... form tribes or armies... or nations... you make up the alliances you want to make and there's just all the reasons in the world for you to PvP anyone there without going against established story background.

This can be a world without money too (or where it exists but only to remind you how useless it is on a prison planet with no hope of getting out)... where only barter can happen. You loot guns, booze, cigarettes, food... that is what is of any value there and what NPCs will trade for... maybe supplies can be dropped from the skies by the prison authority from time to time... that's an instant PvP event right there...

anyways... GoW is a cool world but very limited. If it's about warfare with guns it needs to be an MMOFPS and if it is... you got to have PvP... so you need multiple sides you can play...

Starcraft Online would be better choice IMO

it'd have to be an MMOFPS... not an MMORPG...
I'd like to so any successful MMOFPS... GoW based or otherwise...

But if you're going to create an MMOFPS you probably want more potential ennemies and more character archetypes/origins to pick from... if you got an MMOFPS it absolutly MUST HAVE PvP...

Gears is a really cool game but don't think it's that great of a setting for massive amounts of players

... atleast if there was something positive to get out of it... like if there was faction in the game and this was the only way of having maxed out faction with everyone...

Some people are made to grind... like some people find house work has meditative qualities... thats why games like Vanguard still work for some people.

An interesting idea i wonder exactly how this overpowering of spells will work?

If everyone is overpowered its not really overpowering.

I think the idea is that as you keep fighting... the more you abuse your strong spells... the more vulnerable you become... and the more you have chances of blowing up...

So basically you start out really strong... as your "power-up bar" ("morale" they call it) goes up... you run the risk of blowing yourself up (taking some amount of damage)... and exposing yourself to become an easy kill.

So really they work like the opposite of everyone else... they don't want to accumulate "morale"... they want to be able to fire the big guns away with no risk.

They should have different types of RP servers... the regular "play acting" RP server and a few Immersive servers.. (the latter is the one I'd pick for my own taste).

I don't want to RP per say... sometime I do it jokingly... but what I really want is an environment that is untarnished by it's player base...
