Is it even possible to make a female dwarf that doesn't look graphically like a little kid or a cartoon?  The other females in L2 are amazing to look at.  The dwarfs...look like they belong in WoW.
I hear that Age of Conan will be released on XBox 360 in addition to the pc.  They should really consider bringing it out in the Wii too.  The game allows you to swing your weapon wherever you want with their active combat system.  How cool would it be to use the Wii controller to swing the weapon?  Of course, I'd probably be exhausted after a half hour of fighting, but wow, that would be fun.
What is C or B grade?

Hi again!  I have a question that I'm hoping you can help me with.  I recently started playing the game, and my main is a level 14 Dark Elf fighter.  Right now, he is pretty good, but after reading some posts here, I'm wondering if a fighter is the way to go if I intend on soloing a lot.  I've read the spell howlers are the best.  Is this true?  How soloable is a fighter?  If it's doable, what class should I go into as a dark elf fighter?

I am asking because I don't want to get too deep into the game and suddenly discover that I'll need to reroll as a mage.  I'd rather just reroll now if that is the case.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

I just got my bronze armor, and it covers everything up.

Thanks!  I guess that makes sense.  I'll push on and see what I find.  So far, I'm loving the game.  It is a bit grindy, but what MMO isn't?  Anywho, I'm surprised that this one isn't in the top 10 on MMORPG.  It really does seem pretty good.

I hope you're not leaning to end-game Lineage2. Although since chronicle 1 leveling has been made easier and more friendly once you reach the 70's you will be happy of getting .001 per monster. Getting 2% per day is "efficient" at that level.

To be honest, I'm just looking for something to pass the time until Conan comes out in Q2.  I am tired of CoH and WoW.  I tried DDO and hated it.  Same with Auto Assault.  I found the collectors edition of Lineage 2 on sale for $5 in the bargain bin at MicroCenter and thought I'd give it a try.  The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is fun so far.  If it keeps me occupied for 6 months or so, it'll have been more than worth it.

Besides, NCSoft might address some of the issues I've read about the game on these boards.  If so, I might hang out even longer.  At any rate, I'll stay as long as it's fun :P

And it's pretty fun so far.  Not all that fast paced, but not too bad at all.  It's pretty quiet though.  I haven't seen another real person who talks yet.  They are either not online or just ignoring me.

The graphics are amazing!  I love the way the dark elf women jiggle when they fight or run.  :P  Nice touch!  Too bad there isn't more customization in faces and hair color/styles.

The only bad thing I've noticed so far is that you can get stuck on the side of walls or tress if you use the arrow keys for movement.  Not a big deal though.

I haven't read much about the Marvel thing.  I'm wondering how much different it could be from COH.  I hope we aren't going to see 20,000 Spiderman's, 15,000 Hulks, etc.  I don't think that would be much fun.  That being said, how will it really differ?

That's easy.  In CoH, there's no such thing as the Hulk or any character even close to that kind of power.  All CoH characters are more like Marvel sidekicks at best.  Not one of the CoH ATs currently in the game could go toe to toe with any first line Marvel Super Hero.  Currently, we have City of Heroes.  Marvel will be City of SUPER Heroes.

Yes, there are several powers to choose from, but in reality, the game is very limiting.  Want to be a tank?  You only get a choice of 4 primary sets.  Scrapper?  Very limited there too.

In addition, the game play is in sharp contrast to character creation.  When you create a character, you have tons of choices to individualize your character.  However, even though your characters may look different, everyone of equal level is pretty much the same with a few minor differences.  Powers are slotted pretty much the same (2 acc / 3 Dam / 1 whatever) and players take pretty much the same powers out of their AT selections and Power Pools (I'm looking at you stamina and hasten).

I understand your views, but how is what you noted about City of Heroes any different from many other MMORPGs? In World of Warcraft, there are three talent trees for each class, and even though one can pick and choose from a variety of these talents, the spells and abilities are, for the most part, the same across the entire class. In something like Auto Assault, every member of a particular class is essentially alike in terms of available powers and abilities. Even in Guild Wars, which is not technically an MMORPG by its creators' statements, the selection of powers is fairly limited---certainly, the available abilities are legion, but members of a certain class combination tend to take many of the 'best' ones in premade builds for specific situations.

It seems to me that the standard of 'limitations' is not in any way simply a City of Heroes issue, but rather an ongoing issue for many MMORPGs. Some would even argue that limitations may need to be fairly common in order to achieve some degree of game balance and organisation. I always love new choices (not that I'm terribly good at making decisions or anything, but I do like having a lot of things from which to choose), but sometimes we just have to take what we can get and accept the game for what it is. Not very many MMORPGs offer better customisation; that's not to say that they should refuse to improve, but rather that we should avoid speaking too strongly against a particular game of the genre when the genre itself may be what is full of the issue.

As far as balance goes, the game is still going through balancing pains 3+ years after launch, so I honestly do not believe that this limited system helps much with that.  Personally, I like the way Asheron's Call worked.  You could build any type of character that you wanted.  You could be a group dependent or solo friendly as you liked.  And in the superhero genre, this level of customization would have been a much better choice.  Heroes and villains come in all different power combinations.  This genre screams for individuality.  Instead, we're given a game that allows characters to look different, but that's about it.

Don't get me wrong.  I've enjoyed a lot of hours in CoH/V.  Still, I have high hopes that Cryptic has learned from its mistakes and MUO will be better for it.

What is the most crazy late game damage build? Controllers, fire/kin/fire is insane. Everyone in the player base knew it, so what's the surprise?

yes, but the only reason that is true...is because they have been nerfing everything else for the last 3 years. After the nerf fire controllers (which they aren't they're nerfing all controllers because of the fire tree) people will gravitate to some other build...and that will get OVER nerphed as well. The question isn't/shouldn't be if FIre builders are a strong build, but if they are to strong and what's the correct way to balance them. Also if your going to balance the game then just fracking do it right and quite changing everything any chance they get. As some one said before it's amaturish.

They're is nothing heroic about this game anymore. Used to be you could play on a pick up team and be certain that as long asknow one screwed up andevery did ther role that you could go through the missions usually with no deaths, but still be challenging. Now you have to have the right mix of AT's and a narrow range of levels and trust that no one is going to screw up (which is more likely then it used to be because the better players have mostly left the game) and accept that someone is usually going to bite it. I was in recluse victory the other day where theobject is your level 50 hero goes and escourts a level 54 walking tank around, to destory turrests that would kick the crap out of you and you can barley hit and do about 90% damage when to you do.

It's like great my reward for reaching the top of the game is to escourt around some big machine around that can fight crime way better then I can. The fact that this is Cryptics idea ofsome 50+ content shows how out of touch Cryptic is with their player base and how they want to marginize their role in the COH universe.

I got out at I5 because of all the nerfs. Its been three years now and they still can't find a balance. All the nerfs did was made a good game worst. What's next on the chopping block defenders?

This game should be renamed City of Normal People.
This is one of the reasons I decided to take my second break from this game.  My Fire/Axe tank was slammed, my regen scrapper is just a shadow of his former self, and I just didn't have the desire to take another toon to 50 knowing that he'd probably be nerfed at some point too.  Instead of making the game challenging while keeping the superhero feel, the devs seem to favor making it challenging by weaking the players.  Seems like the lazy way out to me.  Heck, look at ED...that was the laziest most lame approach to "fixing" a nonexistent problem that I'd ever seen.

1.  Change your business model to free to play with paid expansions in addition to the free content upgrades.  This will bring in a lot of new and old players.

2.  Release a  boxed expansion that updates the graphics to some acceptable level for 2006-7.

If the devs would do these two things, the game could make a comeback.

I'd like one if possible.  Thanks!  tedsjunk@adelphia.net

Well they are both good and you do not need one to play the other.  If you decide to get it might check for a bundle - can't remember but I think COV has COH with it.

The game play is along the lines of other mmos - kill this and get exp - get enough exp and you level.  It's mission driven as well, but you dont have to do missions to level, but then you'll be hitting your grind.  I found it to be solo friendly as far up as level 22 where I stopped playing.

The biggest draw is the character creation.  I honestly can't say I've ever seen two characters that looked alike.  The powers of some of the classes are really cool and the transportation part of your character's powers is really cool.  Can fly, run super fast, leap tall buildings and teleport!

I saw an ad at CompUSA where you could COV for $14.95 with one month of free gameplay for new subs.

*scratches COV/COH off list*

Forced grouping is not my idea of fun, but pure frustration.

Grouping is not forced in either game.  If you want to solo, you play a solo friendly character, like a brute or a scrapper.  Really, any character in CoV/H can solo, just some do it faster than others, but the games definitely are not about forced grouping at any level.

Which MMO has the most detailed avatars?  I'm looking for MMOs that have high levels of visual customization and great artwork.  Thanks!

ED ruined what was once my favorite MMO for me and I keep hoping they'll fix it.

I simply don't understand statements like this.

Did ED ruin your game because you lost the ability to perma-haste?

Powers like Hasten were never meant to be perm.   If they had, they would've been toggles.

ED fixed that.

My Claws/Regen Scrapper is just as effective now as he was pre-ED, and I have the PvP badge to prove it.

I love it when people say that these powers were never meant to be like they were.  The company just allowed the powers to work they way that they did for two years, and then decided they needed fixing.

ED was a heavy handed, one size fits all fix.  Instead of taking the time to address the powers that needed attention individually, the devs got lazy and threw ED in.  In my opinion, they broke as many powers as they fixed with ED.  Maybe more.

I'm playing open beta of War Rock right now, and it is a blast, so I'm curious to find out if Planetside is similar.  Thanks in advance for any info.

Played WoW, played Guild Wars, got bored. Should I come back and why?

Not before the invention system is released sometime mid-2007.  The game really has not changed all that much since then.  They've added new costumes, wings, and brought some of the tech from CoV over to CoH, but it still gets boring doing the same missions in the same handful of tilesets over and over.
