I just started and am 51, it is very worthwhile.  Good luck in Azeroth, hope to see you around!

I would have to agree.  The makers of the older hit games can't put out anything worth a darn.  While I respect them a lot for getting the mmo genre started, they just aren't able to fit in with the times.  It seems like they keep on putting games out that are the same format with newer graphics.  And the games seem to be badly coded and run horribly on computers.  When I see that a game is made by one of these old kings I steer clear now.  Tabula Rasa ran horribly, although the idea was neat.  My clicking finger hurt after about 2 hours of play since it was very simple.  In addition, Hellgate london was fun, but it wasn't really an mmo.  It was more of an arcade classic.  I don't think Diablo will be bad tho.  Blizzard seems to know what people want and they keep on giving them it.  WoW and Blizzard get ragged on a bit, since they are the Yankees fo video games,  They always put out a great product and they are unwavering.  The only games I feel are legitimate this day in age are WoW and Lotro.  Both truly excellent games.

20 Better?

Hmm... Maybe in their prime but currently at today's standards nah.

I can think of quite a few though.  Personally if I had to rank MMOs past and present at their peak.

1.  Asheron's Call 1

2.  Dark Age of Camelot

3.  Lord of the Rings Online

4.  City of Heroes / City of Villians

5.  Guild Wars

6.  Everquest 2

7.  Everquest 1

8.  EvE (Even though it was never really the game for me)

9.  World of Warcraft

So I would place 8 games ahead of World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft is extremely popular and even though Recant tries to dispute it, it is comparable to McDonalds or Britney Spears.

All three are super popular.  All three have one awards.  All three are Icons of Pop Culture.

And all three are fairly average.

Anyone trying to deny the Above will use the fact that World of Warcraft has won numerous critical acclaim from reviewers.

But then again so has Britney Spears.  Being the best of a particular genre doesn't make you the best overall.

No one is going to compare Britney Spears and Elvis and say they are equally talented.

Just like World of Warcraft is not an equal achievement to many many other games (The Sims, Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Half Life, Doom, Quake, etc)  It is only when you compare World of Warcraft in the sub genre of MMO games does it shine.  Just like Britney shines in the "Pop" bubblegum princess category of Music or McDonald's does in the Fast food burger genre.

World of Warcraft isn't even Blizzard's best game by any means.  (Diablo 1 & 2, Warcraft 1,2, & 3, are all good but Starcraft is by far Blizzard's greatest game to date).

Gamespot (while only one site) even shines light on what I am saying.  World of Warcraft was not the Game of the year for 2004 for the PC (that was Half Life 2) and over all the game of the year for 2004 was Halo 2.

In 2005 it was Resident Evil 4.

Another good example is 2007 when The Burning Crusade released.  Lord of the Rings Online beat it for the Golden Joystick award for 2007 PC Game of the Year.

Another great example:

Halo 3 was the Time Magazine Game of the year in 2007.  (Even Blizzard's at that point millions of subscribers didn't sway the critics for Time Magazine.  World of Warcraft's The Burning Crusade didn't even make the list of top 10 games of 2007)  Bioschock and the Orange Box both made the list for 2007.

EH, the only game that I could even say is comproble is Lotro that is on your list.  I don't think that you have played EQ 1 or EQ 2 anytime recently.  I was even a GM at sony at I can't say that Sony games hold much towards WoW since everyone there played WoW anyways and no one really played the companies games even though I tried to push them. AC was rad at the time, but it nothing compared to WoW.  The interactive questing, and the ability to solo in WoW is incredible, and the fact that there aren't bugs all over the place is nice as well.  Guild Wars is not really much of an mmo considering you can beat it within a month or so.  Although I did really enjoy the game.  SInce it is not a paid game you get a lot of people that don't put in time enough to have decent guilds or communities.  Everything being instanced kinda takes away from it being an mmo.  CoH is a cool game, but I have had a hard time having anyone call it their first game.  It is usually peoples second or backup game.  Through all these DaoC which is dead, is the one that has had the best feedback and back in the day set the stage for PvP games.  So there is no way that I can disrepcect DaoC at all.  Eve is a solid game as well, although it is in a completely different genre so not really that comparible.  When I play it, it reminds me fondly of "Escape Velocit" which I used to play when I was younger and I loved it.  So through all of these the only two games that I can say are able to (at this point in time) be considered in the same category are WoW and Lotro.  However, I have found that Lotro takes a little bit more time on average per session, so it is a little less casual.  So, in the end WoW I believe deserves to be in the top 2 if not the first.  And I would say it should be #1 because it is the most computer friendly for people as well and they don't have to care about any specific lore like Lord of the Rings to truly enjoy it.  Blizzard makes their own lore.  Because in the long run, there has never been a successful mmo based off a movie series, and I believe that is something that should be taken into consideration when looking at the longevity of the games.

I am sorry to hear the news and I pray for him that he makes his way to heaven and is rewarded for his service and selflessness in being a medic for the United States Army.  R.I.P.

The banks lost the money? What? The peoples money.  Oh yea, that is right.  The bankers have the peoples' money and they are still making out like bandits.  They are getting paid their bonuses and thier high salaries still.  The only people that are really hurting are the people.  Look at the car bailout situation right now.  The CEO's all refused to sell their private jets if they were issued the bailout.  They are still living in style.  They wouldn't even compromise by flying first class back to Detroit.  I would be exited to fly first class, but they feel that it is "below them".  The people are getting the brunt of what is going on.

This game won't be shut down, but it is definately on life support.  This is not a game for anyone to be starting now.  Its just a game that is still played by a select few that only care that it is matrix, not that it is a good game.

I am having a hard time believing this post.....anone understand what I am saying here?

Just wondering how many people have transfering free to Drak'Tharon and how many people are liking it.  I am there and it seems pretty good so far  =D

Ahhhh! I have not been a large fan of the Sims.  There is a third one?  Well, I guess it is some peoples version of MMo to them.  So I can't rip on it that much without being hypocrital....I;m in it for the XP~!

Oil is power.  It is like removing the carrot from in front of the donkey.  There is no end to the thirst for oil from the powers of the world.

Come to Daddy -Aphex Twin

Honestly WoW is world friendly and I have not heard of it offending any religions or races.  Go with that if you have a good monitor.  The colors are breathtaking on my 23 inch high definition widescreen samsung monitor.  If you have the right setup, go for it.  Plus there is the most to do in this game and it is the most free roaming and player friendly.  Good luck with your project friend!

Fallout 3 is a great game.  I bought it and I have played it a few times.  So far I destroyed Megaton and have attempted to beat most of the game without completing any other quests.  So far Beal from the Steel Legion seems to be unkillable.  He seems to fly into the bay when you take a kill shot on him.  However, I have been able to kill pretty much everyone else as of the moment.  The combat is fun and the game is well put together.  You really feel like you are in a desolate area that was affected from fallout.  Kill everyone!  hehe take care and I hope everyone else has as much fun with the game as I did.

I think it is far to early to start making judgements on this presidencies.  The GOP and the DEMS are most alike.  They both recieved lots of money from the big lobbying groups.  I agree that a Libretarian platform is good, such as a Ron Paul approach.  However it is very hard to get a country to change overnight.  You usually need a coupe to change policy that radically.  I think this country with be on a better path than it was before.  However, I don't expect the corruption to stop.  its just a part of politics.

Eh...If you have ever played an mmo or posted on forums you have to know that there are rules and as any group of rules they can be inforced differently by their interpretation.  I have been warned, but at the same time, I don't go overboard with what I say.  I am posting on THEIR forums so I have to respect the rules and even if I don't like them I have to have consideration for them so that I can keep posting with my friends =D  The rules are entirely to strict if you follow them.  I have been on other forums that you can't say you believe in god or anything.  The only part that I get confused with sometimes is the hijacking portion of threads, sometimes I inadvertantly break the rules without knowing it.  I think its hijacking or inciting people, its one of the two, but as I said, I get confused so I am not sure sometimes.   But don't be discouraged, keep posting here, its fun!

omg we should just impeach him now if people are gonna f'n cry every got damn day, he hasn't even been sworn into office yet...whats sad is even before bush turned to crap i gave him a break for years, i looked at the bigger picture of what he had to put up with.  You guys can't even do that, freaking pathetic.

Good point.  People dislike Bush now because of what he has done.  I am willing to give any politician a chance until they prove themselves otherwise.  Considering Bush had two terms a lot of people were very lenient on him.  If Obama did the same things that Bush did he would deserve disrespect, but as of this moment he has my total respect.   I hope this next four or eight years is the best for everyeone in the country dem and rep and others.  I hope that people can be united again and look at eachother as countrymen/women instead of their political affiliation.

Just in case anyone is confused on how to play,  Please just post on this forum that you would like to play so we know how many people are involved and then I can further the process from there !  Thanks so much!

Depends if you are keepint theif as your main.  You will have a main job and a subclass job that is only half the level as your main job.  You can also unclock other special classes like Samurai and Dragoon.  Very fun.

Ok, bear with me.  This is a fun idea!  I was just thinking of how much I enjoy posting on this off topic forum on mmorpg.com and how everyone that posts is like their own little politician.  Honestly, I enjoy everyone that posts.  It would be boring if we all thought the same thing and felt the same way about everything.  There I am thinking that we could have our own elections of our own!

Proposed Rules:

We can have our own little offices and vote people into them under the faction that they fall, dem, rep, lib, green, communist party etc.  If you would like to do this I would be down to help organize it all.  First off we could determine the amount of seats we would election off and then we would have a president that would run as well.  I am thinking that we make this mini election a couples weeks so people can really talk about the politics to sway voters.  We will have a voter registration where we will post on that thread and then when there are elections you will post your vote on the forum so we can count your vote and verify you were registered.  You can register up till the last day but you must have an account.  We just want to make sure that there are not people voting twice, etc.  If anyone would like to do this idea please post after this and we can take if from there if there are enough people that are interested.  Thanks!
