This may be the reason why why Darkfall may fail... not the game but its potential community. |

My sentiments mirror this completely. I would like to see more social aspects that bring together a community rather than elements that push others towards solo play. I would also like to see more emphasis on the roleplaying aspects of the these games and helping to foster greater immersion of these worlds. As an example, words like "l33t, lol, wtf" would instantly be replaced with something more appropriate in terms of emotes or pure replacement of the text. Less focus on gear, grind and loot... more focus on community and bringing that feeling of a world were many are connected. |

What was the mmo that messed the genre up for you?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/03/09 6:52:46 AM
Everquest ruined it for me. As a long standing member of the UO community before EQ hit the stores, I was having the time of my life and enjoying it in the company of close friends. After EQ came out, a good portion of my friends went to the "other game" and attempted to convert me over. Since I've always enjoyed gaming with my close friends I followed even though I enjoyed UO all the same. First thing I was amazed at the graphics (at that time) and began to get myself into the swing of things. First thing I asked my friends over ICQ... "Hey were are you guys?". Long story short, my friends had been playing for awhile and had leveled up further than I leaving me eating the dust of their advancement. This is what killed it for me. The whole concept of "levels" and gear grinding killed the genre for me as it did nothing but seperate friends and refocus ones goals. Ever since EQ every single game thereafter has been a carbon copy of this sort of level-based model, and every single time I've played one of these games I have been left with nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. The only game I have ever found any solice in was Ryzom and even then there were times where seperation ensued. Seperation of friendships through level-schemes killed MMO gaming for me. ====================EDIT===================== After re-reading the question and the comments beforehand, UO is what set the bar high for me as nothing compares to its free-form and open ended content. No game has ever come close to releasing the same amount of features as UO did way back in the day. |

Your entitled to your opinion as much as the next person.... but when you purposely try to derail the entire discussion with information that doesn't even pertain to the topic you get what you deserve man. This thread is not about Darkfalls graphics, its lag, it's suckage or pwnage.... it was purely about a players/guilds idea for what they'd like to do in the game. If you want to continue spewing more drivel about the games technical portion, there are several other threads to do so in. This simply was not meant to be one of those threads. To the OP, your idea is interesting and I look forward to seeing how it pans out. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Intoduction to the Official forums

I think I should grab some popcorn.... I have a feeling this is about to get good and juicy. |

Wow.... yeah everything should be free because I don't like to pay for anything. Hell my groceries should be free because I don't like paying .99¢ for my mac and cheese. Soup is too damn expensive at .50¢ a pop.... Shit gas should be free so I can drive anywhere I want... and my mortgage shouldn't cost me a dime because I hate paying interest fees (you see the pattern). My god man.... seriously? |

EVE by far has the farthest zoom out I have ever seen... you can zoom out far enough to were you can not even see yor ship at all. |

Between Vendetta Online and Jumpgate Classic, Vendetta is definitely the better of the two in my opinion. The game is actually quite nice, I enjoyed the game using a joystick and the community while small was friendly to say the least. Though while I enjoyed the game, I had issues with the movement and how it affected PVP. You can go in reverse, strafe and do other movements that sort of fell in line with general ground FPS games. It was awkward because I wasn't expecting someone to just reverse and strafe around my ship like I would expect in other games. It took a sense of realism away from the game, or it just didn't feel "right" to me the way it worked. Otherwise I enjoyed VO and would have continued to play if it wasn't for this. Otherwise I'm holding out for JGE in hopes that it feeds the need I have for a more interactive space game. |

Quality of Players OR Quality of Game
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/29/09 2:26:48 PM
Quality of Players by far.... I take Ryzom as an example, a decent game that is in need of some serious love. Though its the good natured and helpful community that made me stay for the longest period of time. While I take WoW as another case, a game that has been polished like no other and is considered the gold standard that so many model themselves after. I left WoW not because of the stylized graphics, being level-based or lack of money... I left because the community was filled with some of the worst people imaginable that only EVE can come close to meeting. While my time with WoW wasn't 100% bad, it was the community that killed the game for me. |

Tabula Rasa: New Mechs Added in Deployment 16
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/29/09 12:26:12 PM
If this game goes F2P it will be the best game out there for your money.... TR really was a great game that just didn't get the love it needed to be stellar. I enjoyed the combat, the drops and teamplay. I had a blast until my 30's and realized not to go on any further when it became a grind. I just wish they didn't make this game level-based as it kept alot of my clanmates seperated from content. RG did good with UO and the skill based system, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done with it in TR. |

Why don't they offer the best of both worlds then... offer solo captain play, but don't shrug off those "Trekies" who are looking for a more immersive form of gameplay. In fact... offer an incentive to group ship play for example, whoever is in charge of engineering gives a slight performance boost to the ship whereas that a solo captain can't get. This way all sides are appeased, and yet more choices and options are given in the process to diversify your gaming experience. I know I would be interested in both types of gameplay, as my mood can change from day to day. Not everyone wants to be a captain, why force everyone to be one? |

MMOs that NEED to be bought back from the dead.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/26/09 2:50:49 PM
UO, with the same community when it released. The same people who never knew what "PvP", "PvE", "Gank" or "LOL" was... people who just played the great sandbox in the sky. Scratch that, I guess I just want the mature community that I once had back then. |

Come on, its really not THAT bad. Not everything has to be completely unique in order for it to be impressive. Personally the level of detail is what I find impressive, the way it kind of feels like a world rather than just placed on a map. I also feel once people actually get in the game and experience the world for themselves, to see how the art and style is carried throughout. If they follow through with what I have seen in their screens, I would have no reason to call it unimpressive. |

Take DnL off of the main Forum list, replace it with Atlantica Online. Add Runes of Magic to the main "Games in Development" forum list
Site Suggestions « General Discussion 1/26/09 7:33:18 AM
No he wasn't saying "delete" the forums but just remove the link on the sidebar and replace it with more current (and alive) MMO's released. Every MMO that has a forum is not listed in the left hand bar to the side, so he'd just petitioning to have it updated. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: New Screenshots
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/25/09 4:36:08 PM
The art, detail and attention to executing the style throughout from landscape to characters is amazing. Personally I feel for those who enjoy this kind of style will be pleasently pleased. Unfortunately, from a personal stand-point it just doesn't capture the feel of what I think Star Wars is. Excellent art, and I look forward to seeing how the world is built in such a style, just not my cup of chocolate milk. |
