No in Ryzom you cannot jump, though you can swim.  There also is an emote that gives your character the visible appearance of jumping.  Otherwise the game has little use for jumping and in some cases is nice to not see 30 or so "kiddies" jumping around like a bunch of idiots.

I've owned, I'm sure like lots of people, numerous PC computers, at least 25 or so in the last 15 years. I bought the new mac book pro 17 and i will never be going back to PCs. Im not going to debate the cost, but  Macs do have a much higher resale value than Pcs of similar age.   Ive owned this computer for 6 months and it has been by far the most smooth bug free expiernce I've had.

Ive had no problems playing any game made for PC in bootcamp mode. In my eyes, i have 2 computers. I have my mac side and the OS X that i enjoy using much more than vista or WinXP.  But for my games i have vista loaded on my bootcamp that will allow me to have my game fix. There has not been any game i have not been able to run.

My opinion that more games will be coming in Mac versions like Rage and Force Unleashed: Sith edition to name a few. You have Eve, WOW, and City of heroes to name few MMORPGs have mac versions.

Im agreeing that if want purely a gaming machine, then PC is certainly better , but owing a Mac does not prevent you from enjoying gaming by any sense.

There will always be apple hate out there. Heck i was one at one time before trying. When own one, you get use the tired old arguments that its too expensive. In my opinion, this has been by far m most dependable laptop Ive  ever owned.

Quoted for emphasis and truth.  My sentiments exactly and not to mention the two prior posts have a great wealth of information.

Lol srry but I can't resist but macs are so fail.

It's ironic because the reason the iphone is so great is because it has so many apps and is compatible with everything but mac comps aren't compatible with anything because pc owns the market. (Also macs are wayyy overpriced)

Congrats your an idiot.

Anyone who uses the term "FAIL" in a sentence completely loses all regard for what one would consider an intelligent comment.  Now if you actually used a Mac you'd be more than surprised at its cross-platform compatibility.  In fact a Mac can run multiple operating systems including Windows, while no other machine can run OS X legally.  Also in regards to price, it has also been shown in various avenues that a Mac can be just as expensive if not cheaper than a comparable PC with like parts.  Can you build a cheaper computer yourself?  Yes of course, but its not a Mac.

I work on both platforms at work and they both have their pro's and con's.  To be this blantently ignorant of technology just saddens me to see peoples perception of value to that of price rather than quality.

As far as the Mac client goes, I am glad to see them finally come out with a compatible client.  If the economy ever turns around and I can afford a monthly sub I most likely will pick the game back up.

I'm thinking of getting a Mac but want to be sure that Windows-only MMORPGs can run well on them. Does anyone have experience playing, say Age of Conan or Warhammer or others on Windows running on a Mac, either through Boot Camp or Parallels? Also, anyone tried this on a Mac Mini? Am debating between a Mini and IMac. Thanks for any advice!

You can even dual boot with windows if you felt like it. But if your primary goal is to play games why not just get a PC.   Macs are way over priced a PC can do anything a mac can do plus play all the latest games.   If  you know anything about computers and viruses you can have a PC and never get one, Ive been virus free for years now.

IMHO Macs are a ripoff you can build a PC with the same specs as a mac for less. I use music programs , I know people who edit and encode video  and even do live djing with traktor live all on a PC and it works flawlessly. I really don't see why everyone uses a mac, I guess they are rich and have money to do so.

But hey if your really want a mac then go for it, don't let me stop you.

Sometimes computer purchases aren't just clearly about the money/savings etc.  In many cases if specced pound for pound, you can get a MAC for less than most PC counterparts.  Granted you can build a great gaming machine for less if you know where and what to get.

Personally I own both, as well as work on both.  The MAC will continue to get my money as it has a solid design, current hardware and the ability to run both Windows and OS X.  The MAC gives me in a sense 2 computers for the price of one, not to mention OS X and the (free) software that accompanies it.

Not every gamer just games, and not all work is done in a PC environment.  They both have their uses and they both can do just about what the other can as well.  I find a higher value in MAC's and thats why I buy them.

As for the OP, the MAC should be able to handle most MMORPG's assuming you run them in Bootcamp.  Parallels is nice and I use it here at work, but I have yet to play a game that works within that virtualization software.  There are some AAA MMORPG's that work for the MAC like EVE and City of Hero's which are native clients and don't require Windows.

Also with services like Gaikai coming out, the whole platform dependencies will be a thing of the past and something to look forward to.

It's called beta... you test parts of it first, then more parts later.  The game has not been 100% revealed as of yet... calm down before you jump off the wagon.

While for the most part have enjoyed EVE's expansions... I was really hoping they'd be putting their best foot forward with Ambulation than a web project of this nature.  I would see this as a welcomed addition AFTERWARDS in terms of ambulation but a priority I think not.

Either way it will be a nice addition but now what I think a majority of customers were looking forward to.

You sir are a hero and you made my day!

I have very little to add as most have already covered the various issues with this article in so many posts.  This was one of the worst articles filled to the brim with so many "mistruths" its utterly amazing it was even published.  This article does a disservice to not only the roleplaying community but the credibility of the writer and MMORPG.com

How most current MMO communities focus primarily on solo play as well as PvP, and shy away from aspects that once made this genre great.  I could take almost any game on the market and throw in an old-school UO or Ryzom community and would be content regardless of the games structure or status.

Aside from this, the decision to scrap UO2 was my personal biggest let-down.

To be honest I only see F2P games putting A LOT of pressure on P2P games.   But then again a lot of that presure gets reduced due to the very simple fact that F2P games just don't have a box version to sell in stores or a box version to foot the bill of advertising and initial content.

I think F2P doesn't put any pressure on P2P games. THey are more like WoW. WoW didn't get all it's subs from Everquest. It enlarged the base, drawing in casual players that didn't play MMORPGs before.

F2P does the same thing, draw in lots of players that can't play a P2P game because they don't have the money for the monthly fee, and that in turn draws the players that like to be on top, and have these poor people under them.

I don't think that model appeals to the P2P gamer that is looking for a totally different experience.

Exactly what this gentlemen said.

Even with Free Realms you have to download something and store it somewhere, that and it only works on PC's.  I wish I had a better solution or even an answer but at the moment nothing spectacular comes to mind.

Vanguard.

For me out of several games I have played, it offered the best feeling or captured that feeling best.

Waiting for someone to say it looks better than Darkfall.

They should have just used an experience / level system if this is what they were going to do, or no progression at all and just let everyone pick skills and be at max.

First off NO.  The biggest feature in my eyes is that it ISN'T Level based for once.  Now it can still be skill based and work properly if the game was intelligent enough to calculate skill gain based on a true hit versus just swinging away.  Though I don't see that happening this late (hahaha) in the game.

Was looking forward to it but its appealing less and less to me knowing what type of playing is going to this.

Chalk me up for the option "Never to Not for a long time".

I hate it when I "enter" to soon too, makes the wife upset everytime I post.

*SIGH* I have just started my ever account and paied for it.

Looks like im better off deleting my new chars until the new expansion comes out.

Your choice... start now with 800K skill points or as forementioned here, start later with only 50K skill points but a training time bonus.  I dunno but it seems like starting now would benefit you more so than starting out later.  The new tutorial may help you build your character better, but I didn't feel that the skills given in the prior creation were that far off.

Lol,

Its not a very hard law to understand. As for it being a fallible system every system is....your home town buddy should have been registered as a sex offender because ....HE WAS. He broke the law, whether he felt he had a good reason to or not.

I have four daughters. Part of my job as a father to them is to help guide them in their relationship decisions. You better believe I would have anyone that had sex with them underage put away and registered as a sex offender. I could give a rats if it was some dumb kid barely 18 and somehow the two of them thought they were in love.

If they were in love they could always wait. But i know that's just to much to ask.

Its as easy as another poster put it.....dont eff a 17 year old.

What this man said.  As a father myself, I wouldn't want my child to date another who is intent on breaking the law.

I hate how the laws here can be fucked so hard. There have been cases where 18 year olds have been charged and registered as sex offenders by either dating or having sex with a partner that was 17. More than likely caught by the parents and charged.

I understand the need to keep your kids safe, but do some of these people realize what being put on the sex offenders list does to someone?

As for the article, it doesn't really shock me. This has been going on since the internet was around, and it was only a matter of time before someone used an MMO for it.

Don't fuck a 17 year old.

Thats the age of consent in many states. I believe it is even 16 in some states.

As for Locklains story, that totally sucks. It seems like there should be some "age difference" rule on top of the hardcoded age limitations. As in it's ok if the two people have less than a 3 year age difference or something like that.

Why should age be a difference when it comes to sex and love?  A 28 year old banging a 17 year old is no better than a 20 year old banging that same girl.  Excuses can be given for every scenario but the law is the law plain and simple.  Just follow the laws that are in place and you won't have to worry about issues like this.

No, actually, I'm not.  Sure there are pockets of roleplay, but to the majority that's not what these games are about.  I respect your playstyle, even enjoy it on occasion, but don't think you're the target audience.

If EVE isn't a roleplaying game then neither is any other MMO in existence.  RP.... regardless of server types or descriptions has always carried people of every flavor.  Pockets as you described here follows the same suit as every other roleplaying game I have been involved in.  Remember EVE is one large server that carries every sort of player imaginable so EXPECT to find pockets of it.

I do roleplay in EVE and am in a roleplaying Corp.  Your assumptions are dead wrong, and if anything EVE has more going for it roleplaying-wise than any other linear game on the market.
