I've lost hope in MMORPGs. Goodbye fellow vets
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/07/07 1:38:00 AM
Still holding out hope for WAR, and in a recent interview they were talking about improving the world RvR and making it more significant. They also mentioned splitting the servers into different kinds, with some being entirely RvR....including the ability to kill anyone anywhere. Death penalty probably won't be as severe as back in the olden days, but hopefully there will be some initiative for destroying the enemy around every turn. Best throwback we can expect, I think.

What would you like to see in WAR?

Another cool PvE thing that would be awesome IMO would be to destroy the skaven Screaming Bell. You'd get to fight through hords of skaven, climb a scaffold, and try to tear down that bell.
I forgot what the bell actually did, but I remember it was very evil and I bear a grudge against that thing. |

Is anyone even going to play a faction other than chaos?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/15/07 12:32:01 PM
Well, I LOVE the dark elves, my one and only army, so I'm gonna have to roll my first character with them. Can't wait to see Malus, Mengil, Shadowblade, and a couple others. However, I am going to have to roll one alliance alt, just so I can fight malekith. Don't know which class though, because there are so many unique and cool classes. The engineer who throws grenades and sets up traps seems like it'd be really fun to play in pvp, but witch hunters look so cool too. Priest of Sigmar seem like a class never before played, a melee priest? And let's not forget the squig herder! AHHH! I wanna play them all! |

I'm not sure whether it will be instanced or not, but there will definitely be PvE. They've talked about having both an unclean one and a bloodthirster that you can battle (Huge monsters). Also, when you raid a capital city, I'm almost certain you get to fight the ruler of that city (Malekith definitely wouldn't go down without a fight.) So there's prolly gonna be dwarf king, Emperor Karl Franz, Gazbag and Grumlock, whoever the new choas champion is, Malekith and prince Tyrion to fight in PvE. |

I actually just read up on the bloodthirster that they're implementing into the game, and thought about those massive fights where you have melee guys hammering at the feet and hooves of monsters. While it's cool battling huge monsters like that, it seems very unrealistic when they die because of a hammer to the toe (Or hooves in this case). That's when I thought it'd be really cool if they implemented flying mounted combat into this, that you needed to be higher in the air to attack a vital part of the bloodthirster, like the head or the belly. That way, the animation for the bloodthirster wouldn't be him stomping for most of his attacks. That and it'd be so badass to fly in with your huge team of wyverns/dragons/pegasi to battle this huge beast. |

Anyone else worried about WAR release?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/10/07 3:48:55 PM
Ok....did anyone see that video from the toronto gamesday from warhammer alliance and War-rvr? Because community director Richard said "Down the line that mgiht get done," "Pass," or "I don't know" for over half his answers...and I got a little worried when he didn't know whether hammerers would solely use hammers or if they could use swords also.

Death to the High Elves! All hail Malekith, the true king! Seriously now, it is a fantasy mmo that uses wasd (Not point and click) and has a toolbar. However, the combat system of building up morale and other different bars to use different attacks is completely different from WOW. Also, you can use tactics inbetween fights to better adapt for your next opponent. Orcs, humans and dwarves are in both, one has night elves and the other dark elves. However, Chaos is completely unique and crazy. Read up on it, it's like the twilight zone created an army and went to war. Also, night elves are wood-loving tree huggers, dark elves are murdering psychopaths who literally bathe in the blood of their enemies. It also isn't like WOW because the classes on each side are different (HUGE!!) Mythic is not imo taking the easy way out to balance the two sides by making them have the exact same classes with the exact same skills. Each side has 12 unique classes, each with their own abilities and playstyles. And, as said before, the PvP is going to be a focus, not a tag on. WOW pvp felt more like scrimaging that didn't really affect anything. You could get some armor, but it was never going to be as good as armor from upper raids. Not the case in WAR, you need to PvP in order to sack the enemy capital (Point to PvP) so you can loot the city (Nice rewards). So yes, at first glance it looks similar and if you switch from WoW to WAR the first few levels will feel similar and it will be an easy transition. When you start PvPing early on and competing against other players to finish quests that are more interesting than Kill X and bring Y that it drops back to a person in an immersive, darker world, it'll seem worlds away from WoW. |

What would you like to see in WAR?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/08/07 5:03:59 PM
I'm not talking about DE classes, but different NPC's and scenarios and whatnot.
Personally, I'd like to see a casket of souls. Imagine climbing a huge pyramid while fighting off legions of undead and the trapped souls flying out of it, all the while slowly tearing you down. And then at the top, with whatever rag team you managed to bring up there, you have to take on a lich priest. Mengil might be cool, but he might also butcher the teen rating. Google him if you don't know what I'm talking about. He makes hannibal seem like a boy-scout. As for scenarios, I'd like some truly unique ones other than capture the flag (Although those are necessary for any good MMO). I'm thinking some scenarios like a smaller group of dwarf players have to hold a mountain pass (I.E. they're in a defensive position) with a few cannons until reinforcements arrive. However, a much larger greenskin force of players is laying seige to the pass. That way you don't have the stereotypical even sides fighting for control of a tower or something. BTW, I'm stuck at college and everyone's left for home, so I have WAY too much time. Oh, and the green knight. That guy was so annoying on tabletop, always respawning. I'd love to kill him in game. |

Anyone else worried about WAR release?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/08/07 4:39:10 PM
I've been really concerned with the current progress made on war. I fully acknowledge that there could be some unreleased info that they're keeping from us, but it seems like the game is going to be rushed if it meets it's current deadline (The pushed back one)
The only PvE things we really have seen is early level stuff, none of the later. Almost no information has been released on mounts, except for that one video where they turned the wolf mount into a goblin. Cities have not been described greatly except in lore (again, could be saving) Haven't seen the maurader or witch hunter in game, and empire knights just briefly. Both elves (Big one) And if they haven't gotten the elves down, one of the basic necessities, I doubt they've started on end-game much (I.E. raid bosses and end-game pvp/capital sacking, except for mentioning an unclean one in the grab-bag) It just seems like there is still a lot to develop, then they need to test it and fix any issues (Which all mmo's have). Unless they pick up the pace in the coming months, I don't think they'll be able to release a polished game in time. Now, before I get instantly flamed, I would just like to say I love warhammer, and have been following it since those early orc and dwarf pictures were posted in that gaming magazine. I am a fanboy, and am just expressing a concern, because if this game isn't good I think I'll die a little on the inside. |

To Anyone Who Wishes to Call this a WoW Clone

Ummm.....have you researched the game at all? There is tons of magic in WAR, from the bright WIZARD to the chaos MAGUS, along with the zealot (Magic caster) and the warrior priest (Healer/combatant). Research a game before you post about it. The arguement will go on and on, and yes, they are both fantasy mmo's, so you're going to have people only read that and then say it's a copy. But that would be the equivalent of saying all fantasy mmo's are basically copies of each other. Let people flame and say their ignorant statements, when the game cocmes out it will be judged. |

Only thing I'm worried about in this game is not the payment system (It's still going to be a huge grind to the top) but whether or not it's another potion spamming game. I hate it when you just sit there and continually consume potions to take things on that are higher levels than you.....really should only be able to use potions when you're outside of combat, i.e. when you could actually logout.
